My husband and I were in the area and in the mood for hibachi, we found Sumo Steak & Sushi on yelp with great reviews. This unsuspecting restaurant is located on Riverside drive across from the motel 6. Driving up to the restaurant passing a few closed down restaurants, the area seemed a tad sketchy. We pulled up to the restaurant and decided to order our meals to go. They offer all you can eat sushi & hibachi Monday- Friday 3pm to close and Saturday and Sunday all day for dine in only. The all you can eat price was better than the regular menu prices, but they give you enough food that 1 meal ideally should be all you can eat in one setting. Also, if you choose to opt for all you can eat make sure you only order what you can eat because they will charge you for excess leftover food which will be donated to the No kids hungry organization. We ordered our food online; I had the Hibachi scallop and shrimp. My hubby had the hibachi chicken and shrimp. When we walked through the entrance I was pleasantly surprised by the cool decor, the ambiance was very nice. The restaurant has a large bar and the dining area is spacious, this is a nice place to come and celebrate with a large group around a grill. The staff was super friendly, they greeted us upon arrival. We were in and out in a couple of minutes. Our food was very tasty, everything was prepared well, and they even cooked the scallops to perfection, it was the best hibachi I have had in middle Georgia to date. We will definitely be back but next time we plan to dine in.

Sumo Steak and Sushi in Macon is a nice spot with a good vibe. They've got TVs, but the background lighting makes them a little hard to see. Not a big deal, though--it's more of a place to enjoy your food than to watch a game. I ordered the Volcano Roll, and it was good. Deep-fried with white fish, cream cheese, avocado, and crab meat, then topped with scallions, tobiko, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. Despite the "spicy" mayo, it wasn't spicy at all, but the flavors worked well together. It was rich, crispy, and really filling. I only made it through four pieces. Overall, it's a solid spot. Good food, chill atmosphere, and worth checking out if you're in the mood for sushi.

I was expecting a really good experience here since my sister recommended this place. It took us 2 years to finally try it. The service was so-so. The ambiance likely better than the rest within Macon. Good for groups and night life. They have a bar but we didn't try. Food was good but could have been better with serving (amount) for the price. I would have rated 3.5 because 1) They put us in the table without utensils/napkins, it was't ready/set like the others. 2) The server put the silverware directly on the table without any napkin at all. Imagine if they wiped that table with rug or cleaning sprays etc. 3) The server misunderstood our order, so please make sure they repeat the order or there'll be a good wait esp at dinner time.

Went here for Thursday night dinner. Super good. Great staff. Super hard workers. I felt bad that there was only two waitresses so we had a little wait to order our next drinks We sat at the sushi bar. It's fun waiting the sushi being made. Had four rolls. All were good. I should have taken a picture of the menu. I knew what we got. I think we ordered the beauty and the beast and the sumo roll for sure We wish we ordered more food. Next time we'll get the boat! And the sake was great too!

Food was not very tasty. Rice came out cold and had a strong fish sauce flavor. I returned mine but the manager said that my sister had eaten too much of hers (food pictured). I gave it a chance because of a local recommendation but there are much better options around.

very eccentric lil spot. went for some hibachi to only be told that although you can buy hibachi there no showmanship anymore. all food is made in the kitchen or behind the sushi bar. the hostess informed me they just started all you can eat sushi, so we went with that. their eel just melts like butter. I could eat mountains of it. pink lady, beauty and the beast, & spicy girl were all delicious. great amount of food for a good price. plus friendly and quick service. it's hard to find a gem like this in macon

SUMO serves high quality hibachi! I have ordered take out from here quite a few times and have always had a great experience. I usually order the hibachi shrimp and chicken. The vegetables and meat are seasoned so well! The hibachi meal also comes with soup and a side salad so it's a very filling meal and the portions are great! I ordered a side of pork dumplings to go along with my meal and they were pretty good. Crispy on the outside. This picture is a lunch sized hibachi meal.

More of a 3.75 out of 5 rather than 3. Or put it this way, a 7.5 out of 10 ( if it were possible to rate this way ) Convenient to interstate 75. Driving 8 to 10 hours a day... then this is your sushi spot in Macon. Or 50 mile radius around Macon. Had two hamachi rolls & one spicy tuna roll. Was a lot of food and priced extremely fairly. FOOD COMES OUT FAST ! Like lightening speed. That's excellent if you are on a tight time schedule. Tried to order a roll that they didn't understand. Just STICK to their menu and everything will be fine. Don't get creative. GREAT PITSTOP for more than adequate sushi.

Waited about 15 mins to be seated and it seemed there was 2 servers and 1 chef. The menu they give you is outdated and doesn't reflect their website menu, they do have everything on their website but weird they don't show it. Server was all over and not super attentive but got the job done enough. Chef was friendly. The food was average the salad didn't have the classic ginger dressing which was weird and for the classic fried rice everything was uncharged. When I lived in Atlanta, this was my go to grocery store, so imagine my excitement realizing there's one within a 35-mile radius of me now. Cue the happy dance in the parking lot. It's tucked into a large shopping center, so there's plenty of space to pull up, park, and prepare to spend more time (and money) than you originally planned. The moment I walked in, I was hit with the comforting aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, basically the grocery store version of a warm hug. On top of that, every employee I passed greeted me. Everyone was genuinely friendly and eager to help, which made the experience even better. I felt like a kid in a very upscale, health conscious candy store. If you're trying to eat better, this place makes it dangerously easy to stay on track. They have everything, fresh squeezed juices, exotic fruits and veggies, prepared meals, plus a quality meat and seafood department. Don't even get me started on the baked goods and yes they offer vegan and gluten-free pastries, self control was tested. I was especially impressed with their dairy free selection. There were plenty of yogurt and milk alternatives, which made this non-dairy girl feel seen and supported. One of my favorite parts was the snack displays. There were so many unique, better for you options that I hadn't seen anywhere else. I grabbed a bag of herb-seasoned popcorn on a whim and let me tell you, it did not disappoint 10 out of 10. The store itself is quaint, but don't let the size fool you I easily spent an hour exploring, especially the seasonal items. Between the fresh flowers, quality products, and overall inviting vibe, this place is officially back in my rotation. It may be "close ish," but it's absolutely worth the trip.

With a nice steak line up and very creative pasta dishes. The ambiance and decor shows an elegant and sophisticated feel. It's hard to find good sushi so when I seen their line up I knew I was going to pass on the pasta and steaks and go right for the sushi. lol The Chef's Selection (assorted sashimi/nigiri) was a bit of a mystery as it didn't explain anything other than it was the chef's selection. I'm always up for an adventure so I went with it. All I can say is wow what a dish. 4 kinds of fish. Hawaiian Butter fish, Yellow Fin, Salmon and Tuna. And so much of it. Four big pieces of each. Luckily there were other Sushi fans at the table so none went to waste. That coupled with good service and awesome cocktails made for a delightful experience. It's on my list for Must Macon stops.

Thankfully, it's just a short stroll down the alley and you're greeted by a quaint exterior that already sets the tone. We were in the area on a Saturday night, and decided to give this place a try. The restaurant was packed. Inside, the ambiance is intimate and cozy, perfect for date night or a low-key evening out. Despite its small size, they've managed to make great use of the space and accommodate a solid crowd without it feeling overwhelming. We didn't make reservations, and although the wait wasn't bad at all, we decided to order to go instead. The woman at the front was friendly, professional, and kept things moving smoothly while a constant stream of customers walked in as others were checking out. The menu is refreshingly simple. We started with the crispy shrimp roll appetizer, which was a hit. The sauce it came with tasted house made and paired beautifully. For our entrées, we both went with the stir fried veggies with shrimp in garlic sauce. I got mine with noodles and fried rice, while my husband went all in with double rice. The portions were generous, and the veggies were fresh and cooked just right. The garlic sauce, it didn't quite hit the flavor note I was hoping for. And the fried rice? A bit on the bland side. However, the cold noodles that came with my dish was surprisingly tasty (think angel hair pasta tossed in a creamy sauce that somehow just works). Unexpected star of the show. Overall, the prices were reasonable, the portions were solid, and the customer service was great. While everything didn't completely wow me, there's definitely enough potential here to bring me back. Next time, we'll come prepared, make reservations, dine in, and explore more of the menu.
