I was traveling through Georgia and pulled off of I 75 to try to find some sushi and ended up here. The sushi was fantastic and the people were nice. I don't know how to describe the inside of it, it's like they're port holes everywhere like the place used to be a seafood restaurant, but then there are oddly painted walls and they played alternative music. Honestly, I'm not sure I would've put all these random things together, but the sushi was fantastic and very reasonably priced. I would come here again. I should also mention that I am celiac and called before I went in and they seemed fairly knowledgeable about what was gluten-free and what was not. They also had gluten-free soy sauce for me. **THIS IS A TO GO REVIEW!!!* Heard reviews on the sushi and decided to try it out before heading in. I viewed the menu specifically looking for a fried sushi and called in an order. I went with the Dynamite Roll and I enjoyed it so much. I thought it was 8 pieces per a menu I seen online, but it was 6. It was enough for just me though. I loved the spicy crab & fried topping on top was a GREAT combination. Service via telephone was amazing, but upon arrival, it took almost 15 minutes for someone to come assist me. The guy at the sushi bar seen me waiting at the front as well as a server, but someone from the back of the restaurant eventually came to assist me. My husband and I were in the area and in the mood for hibachi, we found Sumo Steak & Sushi on yelp with great reviews. This unsuspecting restaurant is located on Riverside drive across from the motel 6. Driving up to the restaurant passing a few closed down restaurants, the area seemed a tad sketchy. We pulled up to the restaurant and decided to order our meals to go. They offer all you can eat sushi & hibachi Monday- Friday 3pm to close and Saturday and Sunday all day for dine in only. The all you can eat price was better than the regular menu prices, but they give you enough food that 1 meal ideally should be all you can eat in one setting. Also, if you choose to opt for all you can eat make sure you only order what you can eat because they will charge you for excess leftover food which will be donated to the No kids hungry organization. We ordered our food online; I had the Hibachi scallop and shrimp. My hubby had the hibachi chicken and shrimp. When we walked through the entrance I was pleasantly surprised by the cool decor, the ambiance was very nice. The restaurant has a large bar and the dining area is spacious, this is a nice place to come and celebrate with a large group around a grill. The staff was super friendly, they greeted us upon arrival. We were in and out in a couple of minutes. Our food was very tasty, everything was prepared well, and they even cooked the scallops to perfection, it was the best hibachi I have had in middle Georgia to date. Sumo Steak and Sushi in Macon is a nice spot with a good vibe. They've got TVs, but the background lighting makes them a little hard to see. Not a big deal, though--it's more of a place to enjoy your food than to watch a game. I ordered the Volcano Roll, and it was good. Deep-fried with white fish, cream cheese, avocado, and crab meat, then topped with scallions, tobiko, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. Despite the "spicy" mayo, it wasn't spicy at all, but the flavors worked well together. It was rich, crispy, and really filling. I only made it through four pieces. Overall, it's a solid spot. I was expecting a really good experience here since my sister recommended this place. It took us 2 years to finally try it. The service was so-so. The ambiance likely better than the rest within Macon. Good for groups and night life. They have a bar but we didn't try. Food was good but could have been better with serving (amount) for the price. I would have rated 3.5 because 1) They put us in the table without utensils/napkins, it was't ready/set like the others. 2) The server put the silverware directly on the table without any napkin at all. Imagine if they wiped that table with rug or cleaning sprays etc. 3) The server misunderstood our order, so please make sure they repeat the order or there'll be a good wait esp at dinner time. read more

The food was absolutely amazing. The quality was great. We got the Hibachi Chicken, Salmon, Scallops, and Shrimp. The consistency of the meat was good. Nothing was overcooked. The flavors of the noodles and rice were phenomenal and not too salty. Perfect combination of sweet and salty. The pink lady roll was okay. I wouldn't get it again, but not awful. It started off ok. Than the appetizer came. It was cold. I mean real cold. Mentioned it to the waitress and she apologized and took it back. It came back with the 2 peices we took a bite out of. So all they did was throw them in the microwave. ??? One of the meals came cold also. Cold steak?? Who does that?? So they apologized again, took it back and brought back the same steak. So they just threw that in the micro also. ?? Wow!!. Than they tried to get us to lay for it. It wasn't even eaten. The other 2 meals were ok. This place gets a lot of business and I'm not sure why. We mostly ordered the all you can eat, but I couldn't reorder because our waiter was AWOL and had already forgotten to bring another order of shrimp for another person at my table. My wife and I stopped here on a road trip and it FAR exceeded any expectations we had. We eat quite a bit of sushi and this was honestly some of the best we've had! We each got: spicy kani salad (perfection), the gyoza, and each got miso soup. We got 4 rolls total, all were absolutely great. 1. Green river - best one we got! Amazing 2. The noodles were smaller, more like angel hair (thickness at least) than what I'm used to but I couldn't say which is more authentic.
