Being down in Macon Ga. for the weekend I thought it was so cool to try some new restaurants. The Brasserie Circa was a great find. With a nice steak line up and very creative pasta dishes. The ambiance and decor shows an elegant and sophisticated feel. It's hard to find good sushi so when I seen their line up I knew I was going to pass on the pasta and steaks and go right for the sushi. lol The Chef's Selection (assorted sashimi/nigiri) was a bit of a mystery as it didn't explain anything other than it was the chef's selection. I'm always up for an adventure so I went with it. All I can say is wow what a dish. 4 kinds of fish. Hawaiian Butter fish, Yellow Fin, Salmon and Tuna. And so much of it. Four big pieces of each. Luckily there were other Sushi fans at the table so none went to waste. That coupled with good service and awesome cocktails made for a delightful experience. We all ordered the onion soup which came out lukewarm. Onions were crunchy which tells me they just added onions to water. It did not have that rich onion flavor but tasted like onions in water flavored with a bullion cube. It was not hot at all, didn't melt the cheese. We all had the pasta. The pasta was from a box, don't expect homemade pasta for $30. I had the garlic shrimp linguine. Most sauce should be made with only cheese or cheese and heavy cream. This sauce seemed to be made with flour, milk, and butter. The vegetable was undercooked and I had to pick out little woody sticks of vegetable. The shrimp was cooked, ok but some of the tales were left and I had to pick that out as well. Came out warm but not hot. Likely premade and just placed in a bowl. No real pride in their dishes. Bread served was ok, nothing fresh about it. It was just warmed up bread. Don't think they baked it. Service was good and everyone friendly. I stumbled across this place when I ran into a drunk guy named TC who "highly" recommeded Circa. So, being that TC grew up here and "knew everyone" I took him up on the reference and snagged myself a seat at the bar (post workout and starving) The bar areanis small but nice! Full bar and a TV to keep you entertained. The specialty drinks are quite delicious (incase you were wondering) As I was sitting there I spied a giant delicious looking sushi roll.... So I ordered it (to eat for lunch the next day) and then I ordered the filet with broccoli. The steak was cooked and seasoned to perfection (I asked for rare) and the broccoli was a beautiful, fresh, crisp head that was very flavorful. Back to the sushi.... It didn't make it to lunch the following day. I made the mistake of trying a piece when I got back to my hotel...and then I ate it all So yeah, I'll definitely be coming back here. read more

This is a 5 star restaurant for Macon, but I would give it 4 stars if it was in a major city. The ambiance is brasserie -like, but the menu is not. It's an eclectic mix of sushi, pasta, salads, steaks, and seafood. I don't typically eat meat, but I did this time ordering a 12 oz. NY steak. It was a perfect medium-rare and comes with a sauce - I chose the restaurant's steak sauce and used some of it, it was very good. It could have been seasoned better and I had to add salt. The sides were fine, but not the least bit exciting. I chose the mashed potatoes and broccolini. The cocktail was very good and the wine list is good and reasonably priced. I do wish the wine was served in better glasses - the glasses are the overly heavy, thick-stemmed low grade restaurant type and really detracts from the enjoyment of the wine. I ate at the bar and the service was good. The bar staff were slammed and still managed to take good care of me. Recommended and I will be going back! read more

My wife and I decided to celebrate our Anniversary dinner here at Brasserie Circa. First time eating here and it was definitely not a disappointment. I had one of the specials for the night (Chilean Sea Bass with Risotto), my wife had the Penne Siciliana, and for dessert we shared the Crème Brûlée Cheesecake. The Chilean Sea Bass was perfect. Pan seared crusted outside with a warm flakey but juicy in side, paired with the scallion and red pepper risotto was just a mouth watering dish that no one should pass up on if given the chance. Do pass up on the side sauce with parm and cappers. That gave it the perfect bite to the whole dish. The Penne Siciliana was one of the best pasta we've had. The perfect al dente penne with the savory sauce flavored with fresh delicious mushrooms, roasted red peppers and perfectly cooked blackened chicken made us keep going in for another bite. As good as the pasta dish is, you could not forget to dab the sauce up with the delicious Ciabatta toast point that was perfectly seasoned and toasted to leave a delightful crunch on the outside but a soft warm inside that just soaks up the sauce. The Crème Brûlée Cheesecake was the best way to end the meal. The fresh fruits and whip cream cradling a creamy cheesecake with a delicious crust and topped with mouth watering caramel sauce. This meal was worth it all. It may have been our first time here but it definitely won't be our last. read more

Food was not bad at all for a fine dining place in Macon. Atmosphere was kind of fancy, went for date night and it was enjoyable. The service however, definitely needs some work. Our waitress took forever coming to the table to the point where I would just accept that I wouldn't get what I was needing. Walking into this restaurant, my expectations were especially high as the decor was very nice and patrons were dressed mostly in business casual. Despite this, my experience at this restaurant was mediocre at best. The experience started off great with quick seating and friendly hostess and waitresses; however, it quickly went downhill after that. The wait time for food was egregious (over 40 min) and the waitress barely checked on us in that time letting our water glasses get empty often. In terms of the food, it was good. I got the Angry Shrimp roll and it was a good size and full of flavor. The restaurant does give complimentary biscuits however they were a little dry and burnt. The menu is a little pricey for Macon standards with the average meal being about 20 dollars. The restaurant does feature a good number of vegetarian options though, and for a seafood lover, this restaurant would also be a good choice. read more

Well, how long until you DO have a table then, honey? Isn't that how it works at restaurants. After slamming books around for a minute she then magically finds a table but again tries to discourage us by saying "but it's right in the middle of everything". We'll take it. Dressing on the Brasserie salad had no bite and was way too sweet. Lobster ravioli were not so good. Bread was the white spongy kind. I wish they served some sort of more interesting whole grain. Greens in the side salad were pretty witty and veggies were not in season. Carrots or radishes would have been a better choice. read more

I had an apple cider cocktail with bourbon that was beautifully balanced between spiciness and sweetness. The New England clay chowda, however, shouldn't even bare the name of New England. I spent 9 years in New England and this "chowda" was a disgrace. Tasted like something right out of a Campbell's soup can. For my entree, I had the petite filet done medium, and they did it perfectly. But, they over spiced the meat with too much salt and pepper and overwhelmed the dish. Unfortunately Brasserie Circa isn't what it's made out to be. The main problem is that the prices don't reflect the food, atmosphere, or service. We ate there on a Friday night and it was terrible. Beyond the other customers being extremely loud ( which is sort of out of their control) and ignoring the customer who had a can beer in a coozie we were sat a the tiniest table ever. At first the size of the table wasn't an issue until we realized that the food wouldn't fit and we had to box up our meal as we ate in order to have something to do with it. Which brings me to the food. We took advantage of the specials ( or they took advantage of us) we got a sushi roll that had steak on top and I ordered the cowboy ribeye and my wife had a chicken pasta entree. The steak was 65 dollars and it was terribly thin, over-seasoned, and poorly cooked. The steak had no char and it wasn't cooked hot enough to render the fat or the seasoning so the seasoning was still just sitting on top of the steak as if it had just been sprinkled on before bringing it out. It was similar to eating meat sprinkled with sand. There is no possible way anyone would call that a 65 dollar steak. The chicken in the pasta was so dry! The steak on the sushi was was salty and poorly prepared. Think, soaking a piece of meat in dales marinade for 24 hrs. The bartender walked through the entire establishment with a martini leaving a trail as it slowly spilt everywhere he went. Looked like someone took the garbage out and left a trail of liquid as it spilt from a hole in the bag. Left our table smelling like straight vodka and the floor slippery and sticky. We watched multiple employees look at the mess with an attitude of they didn't make the mess so they weren't cleaning it up. We spent 165 dollars for two people and could have had the same experience for a quarter of the price including food as good or better at Applebees. It's strip mall diner with Ruth Chris pricing. Save your money to avoid disappointment. read more

How good can take out be? It can be GREAT!!!! We had French onion soup and it came with the bread topping and cheese. 20 seconds in the microwave and it was so delicious. I had what I usually get, Szechwan Salmon. I need to try other things but it is just so good! My friend had Chicken Paillard and she always gets it for the same reason I get the salmon. My husband and I were there with a party and from the get go things were a mess. The back room was not set up properly to accommodate guests. The table was set up but not for enough people. It took the server and one other man an additional 30 minutes to produce a solution and add more seating. It was past the lunch time rush and going on 1:45 so the restaurant was fairly empty. We still had to wait for drink orders. I would say it was a good hour before all food orders were taken. We did get an EXCELLENT appetizer, blue cheese potato tower. Not exactly a tower but hot kettle chips in a bowl with a creamy blue cheese sauce on top. Very good!! I ordered the hamburger w/steak fries. The bun was hard and cold. I asked our server if I could have it warmed up and he said "sure" and he never did bring me a warm bun. I was starving so I just ate the meat patty. It was good, nothing special. I've gotten the same thing at other restaurants that was much better and cheaper. I had to ask for my drink to be refilled three times before I got anything. My other dining companions ordered Salmon, which was good they said, and three others around me ordered the filet and they reported it was bland and stringy. This was my first time at Cirq and probably my last. The restaurant is nice and upscale with white tablecloths and candles. The service today was not good. The food was mediocre at best. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile. I was very impressed with our server Katherine! She was very knowledgeable, attentive, and even got behind the bar to make one of our drinks after the bartender messed it up twice. I also really loved the ambiance. The decor is beautiful and the lights were low with lots of candlelight. I would come for the atmosphere alone. The food is where they lost me a little. I ordered the surf and turf sushi roll which was on special as well as the Mahi Mahi over risotto. The Mahi Mahi was over cooked, but seasoned well and the risotto was amazing. The risotto had so much flavor I could have eaten a whole bowl of that on my own. The sushi was just alright. It contained so many components but somehow fell flat on the flavor plane. I had my friends help me finish it because I just wasn't feeling it. I would come back again like I said the atmosphere was very nice. There aren't many places in Macon where you will get this kind of ambiance. I would definitely order some different items however and see if there is something here that could serve as a favorite meal for me. read more

We walked in on a Thursday night at 8PM without any reservations. The place was pretty busy! It's pretty small, but apparently there is also a big room for parties hidden somewhere. There's probably only about 15 tables in the whole place. We waited about 20 minutes for a booth. I ordered the potato tower, which was completely disappointing. For $8, it was nothing but potato chips and a bleu cheese dressing drizzled lightly over the chips. I was expecting sliced potatoes, but that was not it at all. You could buy a bag of chips and dip them in ranch dressing for MUCH cheaper. For my entree, I chose the gnocchi. The gnocchi was not your usual gnocchi. The size of the gnocchi was the biggest and longest I've ever seen, about the length of my thumb. The gnocchi had bits of green onion (it seemed) in it. This is unlike any gnocchi I've had at ANY Italian restaurant where I've eaten. The gnocchi came in a brown meat sauce that needed an extra "oomph." It was an ordinary dish and certainly not worth the $15, considering I've eaten authentic gnocchi in Boston's Little Italy for cheaper. I should also warn the gnocchi doesn't look very appetizing; it looked like I was eating poop. Service was pretty slow. The waiter said there was a big party of 25, which is why the kitchen was swamped. If that's the case, then maybe they should've done a set menu, which makes things easier. For the three of us, it cost $85 pre-tip. That's pretty pricey. Given the very limited menu, I would recommend going elsewhere! read more

We had a wonderful date night at this great new restaurant. Upscale casual dinning, great location and friendly attentive staff. The Hawaiian Lobster Roll was a fantastic appetizer. Entrees were also fantastic. I had the Steak Emerson and my wife had the Circa Steak burger. One of the best burgers she has ever had! Dessert was a key lime cheesecake..delicious !! We ordered take out. They told my husband on the phone it would be one price. When I picked it up, it was 33% more. Didn't find out the difference until I got home. When I called, I was first told they increased the pricing two months ago, but haven't updated online. I hung up, satisfied, until my husband told me that they had specifically said the price on the phone. I called back, and spoke with someone else, who said our order had been entered wrong. I told them to please update pricing on the website, and was laughed at. I will not be ordering to go from them again. I won't trust the pricing online or what I'm told on the phone. read more

I've been there several times. The food has always been great and upscale compared to other Macon eateries. Occasionally in the past there have been issues with the service, but the last 4 times I've been there it's been great. The food is outstanding. Today I had the special pan seared grouper, which was fresh and delicious. The biscuits that are brought out first are also very good. The portion sizes are great. You get enough to eat, but not overstuffed and can even get a moderate sized desert and not experience GI distress like you would anywhere else around here. I've also had the salmon and different omelets and have also had tremendous experiences here. The interior of the restaurant is pretty comfortable and while there's nothing great to look at outside, I've found it good to eat out there when the weather is good in Macon. I'd recommend you go here for a nice brunch or dinner with family or friends. This is a place I'd like to keep going to every time in Macon. read more

Everything we had was delicious. Prime rib and Ribeye was very tender. The Pasta tasted great very zesty. The tuna steak was wonderful it had crab meat on top. Pretty much we were all satisfied.
