First time here, and we enjoyed it. We are always looking for a good Pho, and we got it here! Very flavorful, with fresh ingredients, perfect size, and stayed hot a long time in the stone bowls (careful, they can burn you!). We also had a delicious Bahn Mi grilled pork sandwich. They don't take credit cards though, just cash or one of the cash transfer services like Zelle. They are a bit on the pricier side, but where these days isn't? I needed some Vietnamese cuisine in my life. I also had a 50 mile race coming up within the next two days. Definitely need those carbs within those noodles! I found out that there was a top rated Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of Crystal Lake, Illinois. I was like, OK let's see what's going on here that makes it so awesome. And so, I invited my friend who lives in Crystal Lake to join me. After flying into Chicago O'Hare that day, took a Uber to Crystal Lake. Upon arrival, we were here around 8 PM. The dinner crowd had largely finished up and we were treated to empty tables, which were ready for us to sit almost immediately. And so, my friend and I were seated very immediately after the owner I assume came out to greet us. It was suspiciously large for a Vietnamese restaurant, but large is good. Can't see the same for the bowl of Vietnamese soup though that it came in. I've seen larger bowls in other restaurants in other cities, but it is what it is. The total time spent here was about one hour or so. It was nice to have a great company to talk about marathons and running, while having a nice large enough bowl of Pho. I ended up having an order of summer rolls along with the aforementioned Pho, which was the combination one. The restaurant itself was definitely clean and well-maintained. The service here was very friendly and casual at the same time while being typical and awesome. Definitely can't complain since it felt like being at home. Asian cuisine always seems like it is healthy enough versus American fast food, but it is what it is. The overall experience here at Royal Pho Vietnamese restaurant in Crystal Lake, Illinois was very good and above average, while maintaining typical and friendly ambience. I definitely liked the company here since my friend came to join me. It was very quiet and you could tell that it was just a few people besides us that were here that Wednesday night in November 2024. Scattered throughout the restaurant but we had our space for sure. We sat close enough to the restroom. There wasn't really any air conditioning to speak of, since the weather outside was already cold enough in early November. The Pho was definitely awesome and hit the spot. We were served the summer rolls first before the veggies were brought to our table. Then maybe 2 minutes later, the server brought out the Pho for both of us. It was a magical time since Pho was involved. The meal was good and I ended up finishing everything while my friend ate half of her meal and asked for a To Go container for her Pho broth and other items left from her bowl. In hindsight, I definitely needed all that soldium and carbohydrates that night, since I was going to something in 2 days that would be considered legendary at least in my mind. Though that was funny. Royal Pho Vietnamese restaurant is located at 230 W Virginia Street in beautiful Crystal Lake, Illinois, which is about an hour from Chicago O Hare international airport. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. As far as parking goes, Royal Pho Vietnamese restaurant is connected to a semi large commercial district, so they have plenty of space for you to park here. Best bet is to park next to the restaurant so you don't have to walk that far. Then again your choice how ever you want to do it. If you're like me, you would have friends here to take you in their private car, like how I did for this evening in Crystal Lake. If not, aspen is to plan ahead and rent a car and get you here as quickly as possible. If that doesn't work, is to have the Uber or Lyft app on your phone and call for a ride. That's the best way to do it, but it cost a little bit of money. If you're a fan of public transportation, I'm not sure if Crystal has his own bus system, but it does have a train system going from Crystal Lake all the way down to the city of Chicago. If you have the time, you can train it from Chicago to Crystal Lake, but after that you may be on your own. Best bet is to check around to see if there is a bus system around Crystal Lake to see if you can get around without using Uber or Lyft. With that said, this may be the best Vietnamese restaurant in the city of Crystal Lake Illinois, Royal Pho vietnamese restaurant stands out because of their user rating on Yelp. That's what gravitated me towards coming here for dinner. It is definitely a place you would want to check out for dinner or any meal that you require. Definitely Recommended if you're in the area and need your Vietnamese food fixed for the day, week, or year. 4.5 stars for the overall experience. 5.0 stars for the ambiance and the service. 3.0 stars for the prices, but 4.0 stars for the food. I lived near the Asia on Argyle area of Uptown in Chicago and have tried phô at many many restaurants there. After moving to Crystal Lake, I was grateful when Phô Royal opened. This restaurant is within a strip mall in Crystal Lake, with plenty of parking spaces, and it's much bigger inside than it looks like from the outside. We came here for dinner on a weeknight, and we were seated quickly. We loved the 3-4 robots that help bring your drinks and food to your table, we enjoyed that they all had different voices and were quite polite! The human staff were also very helpful, there was just one staff member managing the tables, which I assume is why they have the robots to assist. Our food came out quickly, and we had ordered the fresh spring rolls, fried chicken wings, fried calamari, grilled pork with vermicelli and spicy beef and pork noodle soup, and we enjoyed all the food. The total for all the above was about $70. The appetizers are a bit expensive for how much you get, but we thought the entrees were reasonably priced. We had enough to bring home food. Came here for dinner and really liked it. The place is nice and spacious , even has an area for karaoke entertainment. They use those robots to deliver food which is super fun. The pho I had was super flavorful and authentic. The only down side is price is on the high end compared to other pho places, with the similar level of food quality. Its a simple equation: Beef rib + robots = I'm in! My visit to Pho Royal was long overdue. First, there were delays when it was projected to be open. Then this ongoing pandemic. I'm glad I finally made it. First, I have to say, from the outside it looks like a tiny place, but upon entering it is very big and spacious. Bathrooms are clean. Every single staff member is very courteous and attentive. One will place their order with a server and when your order is ready, robots bring your meal to you. Fun! When you're finished, you approach the register to pay. This pho, particularly the Pho Royal (menu item for 16.99) is top notch! It is the house special that includes all the goodies, meatball, brisket, rare beef, tendon, and a big ol rib! The broth on its own is a winner as it is very fragrant and rich. The basil, lemon, and sprouts are extremely fresh. I mean, you CAN get the broth & noodles for 9.99, then add what you want, no judgement. I must add that the spring rolls were also very fresh. If you're not in the mood for pho, no worries. They have many other items on their menu. I'm going there tomorrow for bánh mì. Pho Royal really surprised me. Okay, I am so sad to watch this happen - but here it goes. I love the robotic help, that's super cool, but there is a lot of disconnect between the ordering process now... especially as the last time I was there, they had kids (definitely underage), taking orders and they unfortunately made mistakes at every table around us, including mine. They have tablet menus, but there is no added functionality - it's just a menu on a tablet... I'm hoping at some point they streamline the process so that the ordering process is manual (guests order at the table on the tablet), the order is sent to the kitchen and the robotic help brings the order out. Right now, it just seems like the money is going into nothing beneficial and the dining experience is just not good... my order was supposed to be the pho I always order, but I got some weird, watery, chicken vegetable soup because the 12-14 year old kid who took my order didn't know what he was doing, and I assume he just didn't get training. The same thing happened to all the tables that were there that day with soups being sent back and reordered. read more

don't let the entrance, walk inside it's newly remodeled there's some wonderful indoor lighting a really nice stage with beautiful artwork paintings and so on. There is live plants inside as well. This is the first dedicated pho (pronounced "fuh" for people new to the dish) house in the area and it's a winner! For our family, pho is a regular, almost weekly staple... like taco Tuesday, so it is great to have another option in the CL/ALG/LITH area. We had 3 bowls of pho, two with rare beef and one Royal, which is basically a meat lovers special. For those new to pho, there is tendon and bone in this one, so be advised. The pho broth here is complex with flavor. There's a little extra sweetness from the cinnamon or fish sauce that keeps you wanting more. The noodles are medium versus the small that most noodle shops use. This is more of a preference thing and though I prefer the small (or thinner) noodles, these were cooked nicely. Last thing to point out is that they are doing a great job with COVID precautions. You can see from my photos that the dining area is huge, there is sanitizer, and they are cleaning throughly between guests. It feels safe to eat in here. Only downside of the place is that they are on the expensive side for pho... $12.95 - $15.95. I guess that's not bad considering how far out of the city we are. We'll be back to try their non-pho dishes and you should give them a visit! read more

Very very good pho. We haven't tried anything else on the menu because when we want Vietnamese food, we want beef pho! We started with shrimp spring rolls because I love spring rolls. Our favorite is Pho Royal which has all the beef parts in a lovely bone and oxtail stock. My other half would like some tripe but they don't have any to offer. The drinks were amazing, so many diverse tea and boba options. They were a little slow to come out but worth waiting for. Thank you for offering what level of sugar 100%, 70%, 50%, 30%. I ordered the Korean Beef rice dish for $15.99 and got extra Korean Beef for $8.00 additional. As you can tell from my pictures it's pretty much a joke for thier portions. For the main dish you get 1 piece of short rib that's cut in half to make it look like you're getting 2 pieces. And here's the one that the driving force for my 1 star review. This restaurant has a lot of seating and even a mini stage. We arrived on a Saturday evening around 5 pm. My group was the only one in the restaurant. Our server was nice but it seems he didn't know the menu that well because we ordered something he would come back and tell us that they didn't have it. Some of the seafood dish including the crawfish wasn't available which was off since it was crawfish season. We ordered a few snails dishes including the Ca Na Snails and the Vietnam Snails which was tasty and nicely seasoned. We also ordered some shrimps in a garlic sauce which had a good amount of heat and garlic. The Conch Salad was one of my favorite because it had a good balance of the fish sauce for the dressing. Since we had our kids with us we ordered the combo fried rice, chicken wings and popcorn chicken. The fried rice and popcorn chicken was okay. Wings were goods. Overall, we were disappointed that they didn't have some of the seafood dishes we wanted but the one they did have were good. I've tried this place 2 times now. Sad but I'm done. Both times I ordered, I picked up. My first time thereI had a craving for some Vietnamese vermicelli salad. Typically noodles, protein, lettuce, bean sprouts, carrots, peanuts, fried onions. Delish! I looked at their pictures and decided on the pork vermicelli salad. The pork was incredibly fatty and inedible. So sad. The second time, several months later, at 1:00 on a Friday afternoon there was no one in the restaurant. I wanted to order online but that menu has no resemblance the hard copy in the restaurant. The guy at the desk said I had no idea how hard it was to track people down to let them know the order couldn't be filled. It took 25 mins for the order to be ready, which seemed long in an empty restaurant, but that's fine. I paid 2$ extra for the pork vermicelli combo which added shrimp and egg rolls. I decided to pull the shrimp and egg roll out in my car so they wouldn't overcook. They, as well as the pork, were cold, as in from the refrigerator cold. 2 little shrimp and a burnt little egg roll. When I got home, I tossed the noodles and veggies together and that was very good. Crisp and fresh lettuce and veggies with a nice, vinegary sauce. read more

I love pho and this place has what I would consider really great and authentic food, but overall this was a strange experience and I would not come back for a few reasons: Sweet but not fast or attentive service Extremely high prices Very small serving sizes Confusing menu (hostess didn't really have the answers to our questions and omitted a few things I would've liked to know) Elaboration: It is an insanely large restaurant for the amount of people (two tables filled) I saw on the Friday lunch time I went. That's not a bad thing just seemed hard for the one waitress to manage and I noticed another person trying to get her attention aside from us. It took about 10 minutes for someone to help us in the first place and our sodas came long after our appetizer strangely. We payed I think over $15? Great tasting food, very authentic flavors prepared by Asian cooks, imagine that! I am from Laos not Vietnam, so it's a little sweeter tasting than I prefer, but very good pho soup. Visiting from out of town, had to try it. Ate here twice this week. It's a nice, big restaurant with a modern decor and friendly staff. The restaurant entrance is easy to miss, and you'll end up in a dessert shop owned by the same people if you don't read the signs to the adjoining doors. When you walk in from the outside turn immediately right and open that set of doors to the restaurant instead of going straight into a takeout dessert and tea shop. Finally! After over a year of seeing this place about to open up they have opened! A bit on the pricer side for your standard pho place this place has landed itself a 4.5/5 stars in my book. Pho Royal located in Crystal Lake by the dollar tree, a bubble tea shop and a nail salon this place is huuge inside. Very nice and very clean! My food to go was the standard fresh spring rolls... what threw me off was the pork slice (I don't eat pork), typically it is just the shrimp, noodles, and veggies that go in. Still fresh and good minus trying to pick out the pork lol. I would have liked them much better without it, but I know for next time to ask for no pork, but their dipping sauce was on point. Next I chose their rare beef pho which the broth was nice and flavorful, not overly salty in the slightest, but full of that its been cooking for a bit flavor. All the stuff was packaged separately from the broth, it was nice that the meat was inside a bag inside the container. I could set it aside easily. The noodles were great, fresh and nicely cooked. Thanks to them being separate from the broth they were not over done and still had that great "chew" a pho noodle should have. Like the spring rolls the other ingredients were fresh. Onion, green onion and maybe a hint of cilantro or coolantro. The sides of bean sprouts, jalapeños and basil were also fresh. There was also a lot of basil which I was more than happy to toss it all into the bowl. What was a surprise was the oyster sauce and Sriracha came in little sauce packets which made dumping them into the soup quick, easy and mess free. All packaged nicely the only quip I would have had was on my way home if my order tipped I would have had broth all over my car. The lid had popped off or wasn't secure so when I got home it was next to the container inside the bag and a bit had splashed out inside the bag... minor details tho, didn't make me upset as there were no real issues or mess. Overall, this place is more pricey than a standard pho place but you get a decent bit for your money, I have enough for another meal. They are good and I'll be back for more at a later date! Give this new place a try and see for yourself. Currently still a limited menu. But they have all the staples, hope you won't be disappointed, I know I wasn't! read more

This was recommended by my family member. It was a pretty spacious place. I love the wood throne like chairs. Very clean. The staff was super nice and the pho was beyond!!
