Tried Phoday recently and honestly left pretty disappointed. We ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls, steak pho, and the Korean BBQ-style rice plate ($16.75). The biggest letdown by far was the rice plate. For that price, I expected a decent portion and quality--but instead, I got 4 tiny pieces of beef short ribs that were almost entirely fat with barely any actual meat. It honestly felt more like eating pork belly than short ribs. It just felt like a total rip-off for what you get. I wouldn't recommend ordering that dish at all. The rest of the food was okay, but nothing that would make me want to come back, especially considering the price point. Service was slow. Had to ask for water refills. We continue to dine here and get our carry outs as there is always consistency in the food being fresh, neatly packaged and generous amount of ingredients! The halal chicken Pho is delicious and packed with a generous amount of chicken, the shrimp pancake was delicious and the dipping sauce along side was perfect. The shrimp fried rice had larger pieces of shrimp and more than other places we've had it. The carryout ordering was super easy and our meal was packed nicely. I recommend the extra veggies and extra fried tofu as it is a really nice accompaniment to the chicken pho. The only small drawback is to be sure to order the pancake when you're dining in. The bottom gets soft when they pack it for carryout which can't be helped. It's still very delicious but prefer it there I'd still give it a 10! read more

Nice quiet place. We probably made most of the noise while we watched the Bears game. It's a nice simple, quint little place. The staff is friendly. They didn't have the game on and we asked if they could put it on. They may not know how. It was young staff. They let one of us try to find it. Couldn't find it. We visited Phoday in Schaumburg recently and ordered the Barbecue Pork Banh Mi, Banh Xeo, Pho, a Rice Plate, and a Noodle Bowl. The Banh Mi and Pho arrived quickly, followed shortly by the Banh Xeo. Traditionally, Banh Xeo is eaten as a lettuce wrap. They provided a small basket of lettuce along with some mint and basil, but the pieces were just too small to properly wrap the Banh Xeo. When we asked for more lettuce, it still wasn't enough to make proper wraps, which was disappointing. Our son's Rice Plate arrived much later, by which time the rest of us had already finished our meals. Waiting for him to eat while everyone else was done made the experience awkward--no one enjoys being watched while they eat. About halfway through the meal, we noticed that two side items normally served with the Rice Plate were missing. When we brought it up, the server explained he was unaware they had run out. The kitchen compensated by adding an extra grilled pork chop. When I asked why we weren't informed of the shortage, the server admitted that neither he nor the kitchen had communicated this to us. Simply adding another pork chop without discussion felt like an inadequate solution. Communication and customer service are crucial in the restaurant industry, and this experience fell short. Food timing also contributed to the disappointment--appetizers like the Banh Xeo should come out before main entrees, not at the same time. Additionally, having our son's entree arrive last while the rest of us had finished further highlighted poor coordination. Because of these service and timing issues, it's difficult for us to give a high rating. We appreciate the food itself, but service is a major part of the dining experience, and unfortunately, Phoday didn't deliver in that area. I'm not sure we'll be back. read more

Update: Ordered banh xeo, beef pho, pork chop plate, grilled chicken noodle bowl, and banh mi. Pork chop plate came out way later so everyone had almost finished eating and our son got his food last. It was missing two components of the entree and no one said anything until we pointed it out later. Kitchen should've communicated with the server so he could've told us and given us an option to change our order. Ordered banh xeo which is an app and 4 people were at our table with enough lettuce for 1 or 2 people. Had mostly bean sprouts today. Chicken noodle plate only came with lettuce and cucumbers, most places serve it with an eggroll, carrots, and radishes. The noodles were tough and undercooked and cold. Pho here is good, the sandwich was also good but the other items we had are hit or miss. This place costs more than other Vietnamese spots in the area and you'd expect to get more out the food and service but isn't the case lately. Service is a bit slow and staff doesn't really pay attention unless you really flag them down. Had to ask twice for to clear the finished dishes to make room for other food coming. You can get more attentive service, extra touches on the food for a lower price at the other spots. It'll be hard to want to come back here again. read more

This is by far my favorite pho place in the area. While it's certainly not the cheapest, the foods that we typically order has stayed consistently delicious across the 20+ times we've been here, including our most recent visit! My go-to items are the Bun Bo Hue (I love spicy) with the thin noodles and the Pork and/or Beef Bahn Mi. I usually pair this with an avocado smoothie, which while different than many other avocado smoothies I've had elsewhere (it's much creamier), is still tasty and really rounds out the meal for me. My wife enjoys getting their Banh Khot (savory mini pancakes). The lettuce wrap + banh khot + dipping sauce makes for a satisfying appetizer (or meal if you're less hungry). Portion sizes for everything is decently big and if you like having leftovers, I often find that ordering an extra Bahn Mi is a great choice for lunch the next day. read more

The flavors are incredible! I was really surprised. What we got: Bun (noodle salad) - THIS! Order this, please. The lemongrass pork is probably my favorite of I've found in this area so far. Sometimes you can hardly taste the lemongrass, but this--really punches through! It's smoky and got a great char flavor (but it's not burnt! It's not crisped to ash); the pork was so tender and flavorful. I'm still thinking about it! I wish there was more lettuce and cilantro, but they give a generous amount of mint, which honestly is just so good and makes this dish really refreshing. Bahn mi (small) - The bread is the right kind here. It was soft and you could probably toast it a little more if you like the outside to be more crispy, but it wasn't like a thick, dense bread. It was pretty good for this area. The pork is slightly different than the noodle salad--I think maybe there's a peanut sauce?? Not entirely sure, but it was tasty in a unique way I haven't had before. Totally kid approved! Spicy pho (don't know the name but it's usually something like bun bo hue) - My husband ordered this and was kind of underwhelmed by it. But then he realized there was a separate sauce container with magic oil seasoning, and he said that was the missing taste. It was where all the flavor came from! He liked it but liked my noodle salad more. Crepe/pancake - There aren't many places that offer this. It's so good. You make it into a little lettuce wrap, and it's just fresh and delicious. The batter might have some coconut milk to it, and it's filled with some meat and shrimp and bean sprouts inside. The effect is this really nice pairing of soft and tender and crispy textures. The quality here has gone down in the last few months. The pho doesn't taste as aromatic and flavorful as before, and the quantity has decreased significantly. I suspect they made have switched chefs or owners because they switched out the traditional Vietnamese music and videos they used to play as well. Came here for dinner as we were in the area and wanted pho on a chillier night. First thing I noticed was that the rerestaurant looked really clean and loved seeing the videos of Vietnam's landscapes on the TVs. The service was fast and attentive and the food came out very fast. We got spring rolls to begin and they were wrapped well and everything tasted super fresh. What I loved the most was the peanut sauce that also had what looked like fried onions and pickled carrot and radish. It had a much deeper umami flavor with a slight tartness from the pickled veggies. Both of our phos came out super fast and the bowls had a lot of meat in them. They definitely do not skimp on the meat and noodles! The broth tastes great, however it had a slight sweetness to it that by the end was a bit too sweet. That would be my one and only complaint. I came here for a quick meal and got a Thai iced tea and 2 different noodle/meat dishes. Both with beef, different noodles, and different prices. After waiting a bit for service at my table, my dishes arrived (about 5 minutes separately) and both dishes were exactly the same- same noodles, same veggies, and same meat. No one could explain to me why the dishes were priced differently or why the menu said they had different types of noodles. The food tastes fine, nothing special, but the Thai tea was disappointing and had a bitter, pungent taste. I mostly lived in two locations in the city - one nowhere near any pho place, and one that had a pho place that was a five minute walk away. I'm not saying that makes a huge difference in quality of life...unless you're sick. Or hungover. Phoday has me covered out here in the burbs. Service is good and it's never been so busy we had to wait, but there's always a decent crowd inside. I always get the pho dac biet when I get pho to maximize the meats I get, and they give a good noodle to broth ratio here. Also I should mention, if you get the pho it can come out shockingly fast. A nice surprise when you're not feeling well. I've also tried their banh mi which was solid and they have a smaller size available if you're not as hungry which is a nice option. Glad they serve it with the proper pork roll and pate. My only gripe is they don't have tripe in their pho! My wife isn't a fan but I love crunching on it. We have been on the hunt for the best Pho in the area, and when reading the review on Yelp we just knew that we had to come by and try it. Granted to Pho lives up to mom and grandma's home cooking, but Phoday did not disappoint. Phoday is located at outer corner of a strip. There is plenty of parking located outside the restaurant. Upon entering we were greeted by the staff and were invited to sit anywhere we'd like. Soon after the waiter came by with water and ask if we had any questions on the menu. We decided to start with the spring rolls. They were pretty hefty and the peanut sauce was delish. The only thing is that there were so many toppings it made it hard to actually dip in the sauce, you kinda had to scoop the sauce in to your roll. I had the P1 which is the Phoday special. The food came out pretty quickly. The bowls were a pretty filled with protein, and noodles. The broth is great flavor, and they came with a size plate of veggies for us to share. We came by on a Saturday afternoon just after lunch but folks were coming and going nonstop. The staff was still very attentive and checked in with us. My only reason for taking off a star is that I wish we got more traditional chopsticks and spoons. There were a few times that I felt like the wooden chopsticks may snap while I'm mixing my bowl. I ordered last night at 5 pm, I just got the message indicating that my order was ready a day later at 11:22 am! I ordered the special chicken pho soup P18, which cost more than the regular, but not sure why since I asked for only white meat, but got both while and dark. Half the chicken was still on the bone, so had to debone before I could add to the soup. There was a lot of bone. I've ordered this soup at restaurants before and never had to debone the soup. I had the pleasure of trying Phoday last week and it did not disappoint. I haven't had Pho in a really long time and my wife had never had pho prior to this experience. The lady who greeted us when we walked in was very friendly and I overheard her engaging with other patrons. They were not sure how to eat a particular dish and I heard her sweetly tell them "I will teach you how to eat anything here!" My wife ordered the flank steak pho and I ordered the flank and brisket and both were so delicious. I thought the broth itself was so tasty without being overly salty. As is typical with pho you get a lot of food for your money. In addition to the food we also had a Thai iced tea that I thought was ok but tasted a bit artificially sweetened to me. I would absolutely come back here again for the pho and would want to try the banh mi and some of the other cuisine , had a wonderful service experience and the food was wonderful. Phoday of course has pho, along with some other similar items of south Asian or wherever. Get something with noodles if having a hard time deciding on anything. The portions are pretty good for the okay prices. At lunch it wasn't that busy. It still took awhile to get our food. They must have not had enough waitstaff. Food came out faster than it took to take our orders to be honest. It's about $12 for the cheapest entrees, but you get a lot though. The pho options on the menu lack anything for vegetarians. I got the Mi Xao Chay. This is vegetarian stir fry noodles with tofu. Pretty standard item. There was a good variety of vegetables including broccoli and carrots among others. Great value for what you get from here. It's more authentic than a lot of Asian restaurants, it seems. There's plenty of pho, but you'll have to get one of the other options on the menu if looking for something okay for vegetarians. read more

My friends and I were out in the burbs looking for a pho place that had good ratings and was closeby to the Woodfield mall. We came across this place and decided to try it. The place itself is kind of nice for a typical pho place (maybe I've gotten too used to the hole in the wall places that I've frequented in my life in Little Saigon in Westminster, CA as well as everything on Argyle in Uptown Chicago). I went with a friend and when we arrived there was ample parking and we were seated right away. The menu is robust for pho options. I ended up getting the filet mignon and flank in beef broth. I added tofu as well. It was really good! The broth was extremely flavorful and the meats were soft and tasty. The decor of the restaurant is really nice and has a traditional Vietnamese vibe. I went around Christmas and it was also decorated fun for the holidays. I will definitely be heading back soon, especially on cold days this winter. I always get this noodle dish at Pho places since it's a classic and a good way to try the broth. It had a good beef broth base that wasn't too sweet or salty. The brisket was very tender and not fatty. The overall portion was very generous. Service was a bit slow but that may be because we were seated towards the back that wasn't easily seen by the front servers. It was a very open space that had a casual atmosphere.
