We visited Phoday in Schaumburg recently and ordered the Barbecue Pork Banh Mi, Banh Xeo, Pho, a Rice Plate, and a Noodle Bowl. The Banh Mi and Pho arrived quickly, followed shortly by the Banh Xeo. Traditionally, Banh Xeo is eaten as a lettuce wrap. They provided a small basket of lettuce along with some mint and basil, but the pieces were just too small to properly wrap the Banh Xeo. When we asked for more lettuce, it still wasn't enough to make proper wraps, which was disappointing. Our son's Rice Plate arrived much later, by which time the rest of us had already finished our meals. Waiting for him to eat while everyone else was done made the experience awkward--no one enjoys being watched while they eat. About halfway through the meal, we noticed that two side items normally served with the Rice Plate were missing. When we brought it up, the server explained he was unaware they had run out. The kitchen compensated by adding an extra grilled pork chop. When I asked why we weren't informed of the shortage, the server admitted that neither he nor the kitchen had communicated this to us. Simply adding another pork chop without discussion felt like an inadequate solution. Communication and customer service are crucial in the restaurant industry, and this experience fell short. Food timing also contributed to the disappointment--appetizers like the Banh Xeo should come out before main entrees, not at the same time. Additionally, having our son's entree arrive last while the rest of us had finished further highlighted poor coordination. Because of these service and timing issues, it's difficult for us to give a high rating. We appreciate the food itself, but service is a major part of the dining experience, and unfortunately, Phoday didn't deliver in that area. I'm not sure we'll be back.

Update: Ordered banh xeo, beef pho, pork chop plate, grilled chicken noodle bowl, and banh mi. Pork chop plate came out way later so everyone had almost finished eating and our son got his food last. It was missing two components of the entree and no one said anything until we pointed it out later. Kitchen should've communicated with the server so he could've told us and given us an option to change our order. Ordered banh xeo which is an app and 4 people were at our table with enough lettuce for 1 or 2 people. Had mostly bean sprouts today. Chicken noodle plate only came with lettuce and cucumbers, most places serve it with an eggroll, carrots, and radishes. The noodles were tough and undercooked and cold. Pho here is good, the sandwich was also good but the other items we had are hit or miss. This place costs more than other Vietnamese spots in the area and you'd expect to get more out the food and service but isn't the case lately. Service is a bit slow and staff doesn't really pay attention unless you really flag them down. Had to ask twice for to clear the finished dishes to make room for other food coming. You can get more attentive service, extra touches on the food for a lower price at the other spots. It'll be hard to want to come back here again.

This is by far my favorite pho place in the area. While it's certainly not the cheapest, the foods that we typically order has stayed consistently delicious across the 20+ times we've been here, including our most recent visit! My go-to items are the Bun Bo Hue (I love spicy) with the thin noodles and the Pork and/or Beef Bahn Mi. I usually pair this with an avocado smoothie, which while different than many other avocado smoothies I've had elsewhere (it's much creamier), is still tasty and really rounds out the meal for me. My wife enjoys getting their Banh Khot (savory mini pancakes). The lettuce wrap + banh khot + dipping sauce makes for a satisfying appetizer (or meal if you're less hungry). Portion sizes for everything is decently big and if you like having leftovers, I often find that ordering an extra Bahn Mi is a great choice for lunch the next day.

Had a fantastic lunch here! We ordered pho, garlic wings, a Vietnamese pancake, a bowl, a bánh mì sandwich, and spring rolls--everything came out quickly and tasted incredibly fresh. The flavors were authentic and satisfying across the board. The server was extremely nice and attentive, which made the experience even better. This is truly good, authentic Vietnamese food, and we'll definitely be coming back regularly. Highly recommend!

Pho Day was so good! Got the shrimp pho and friend the beef pho and was pleasantly surprised by how tasty and generous the shrimp portion was! Quick service, tons of seating, and just hit the spot. Will 100% be back!

We got this delivered, so I can't speak towards the aesthetic or ambiance. But our food was delivered pretty promptly and right within the timeframe they gave. Nothing leaked, which is impressive considering what we got. It was all very thoughtfully packed. I don't know what everyone else is getting, but wowwee wow! I am so super pleased. The flavors are incredible! I was really surprised. What we got: Bun (noodle salad) - THIS! Order this, please. The lemongrass pork is probably my favorite of I've found in this area so far. Sometimes you can hardly taste the lemongrass, but this--really punches through! It's smoky and got a great char flavor (but it's not burnt! It's not crisped to ash); the pork was so tender and flavorful. I'm still thinking about it! I wish there was more lettuce and cilantro, but they give a generous amount of mint, which honestly is just so good and makes this dish really refreshing. Bahn mi (small) - The bread is the right kind here. It was soft and you could probably toast it a little more if you like the outside to be more crispy, but it wasn't like a thick, dense bread. It was pretty good for this area. The pork is slightly different than the noodle salad--I think maybe there's a peanut sauce?? Not entirely sure, but it was tasty in a unique way I haven't had before. Totally kid approved! Spicy pho (don't know the name but it's usually something like bun bo hue) - My husband ordered this and was kind of underwhelmed by it. But then he realized there was a separate sauce container with magic oil seasoning, and he said that was the missing taste. It was where all the flavor came from! He liked it but liked my noodle salad more. Crepe/pancake - There aren't many places that offer this. It's so good. You make it into a little lettuce wrap, and it's just fresh and delicious. The batter might have some coconut milk to it, and it's filled with some meat and shrimp and bean sprouts inside. The effect is this really nice pairing of soft and tender and crispy textures. Just wish the shrimp was snappier instead of like mushy. But still so good and worth getting because of its unavailability elsewhere. Also, they have some halal dishes! I'm not sure how rare that is, but I thought that was pretty cool and provides more options.

Came here for dinner as we were in the area and wanted pho on a chillier night. First thing I noticed was that the rerestaurant looked really clean and loved seeing the videos of Vietnam's landscapes on the TVs. The service was fast and attentive and the food came out very fast. We got spring rolls to begin and they were wrapped well and everything tasted super fresh. What I loved the most was the peanut sauce that also had what looked like fried onions and pickled carrot and radish. It had a much deeper umami flavor with a slight tartness from the pickled veggies. Both of our phos came out super fast and the bowls had a lot of meat in them. They definitely do not skimp on the meat and noodles! The broth tastes great, however it had a slight sweetness to it that by the end was a bit too sweet. That would be my one and only complaint. Otherwise everything tasted great!

I visited on a Monday for lunch and was surprised at how busy it was, but after eating the food I completely understand. Everything was great! The pho was cozy, comforting, and flavorful. The spring rolls were excellent. All of the food came out quickly, which is a great problem to have. The prices were more than fair.

When we arrived we noticed a table was reserved and we were informed that it was our table. We sat and looked over the menus. When we were ready my 2 boys and I went up to place our order. My one son has major allergies so we spoke to the chef and he came back out to recommend the dishes he can have. It was great that he did so and gave us confidence that my son would be able to eat without worrying too much about the ingredients. I ordered the Shrimp Kalamakia with a side of the Greek Rice. My son with the allergies ordered the Pork Kalamakia with Greek Rice and no pita, my other son ordered the Traditional Pork Gyro with Greek Rice. The sides we ordered: Saganaki Fritters and Spanakopitakia. My son that ordered the Pork Kalamakia devoured it. He said it was tender and juicy and probably could have eaten 4 skewers. My Shrimp Kalamakia was nicely charred and seasoned, I squeezed some lemon and it provided a nice tang over the seasoning. The Lemon rice pilaf was soft and cook just right and was nicely balanced. I had one Saganaki Ball and it was delicious. My son had the Pork Gyros said it was really good and the Tzatziki sauce was creamy and rich with flavors. My in-laws bought the table desserts and I got the Baklava and my wife got Loukoumades (Greek Donuts with Nutella) and both did not disappoint. I really loved the citrus honey syrup in the Baklava. The Loukoumades had a crispy shell and nice a fluffy on the inside and the Nutella amount was perfect. This place is very good and well worth the price in my opinion. I loved the fact that they took the time to make sure my son with allergies was safe.

It was time to try. We expected a bit of a hole in the wall and that's not what we found - we found a very nicely decorated and maintained restaurant with a lot of dark wood overtones - we were seated immediately and given an extensive menu. I ordered a Polish beer, and we ordered a Polish plate - kind of a combination sampler plate if you will - and a ground pork cutlet dinner. Now before we could say anything? Some bread showed up with a lovely but lightly flavored hummus type spread- we enjoyed it because it also came with a nice big half sized pickle. When the Polish plate came? OMG we had sauerkraut - we had sausage - we had some pierogies, and when the pork cutlet came out? It literally covered the entire plate and was resting on a bed of freshly mashed potatoes. We shared the Polish plate and we shared the extremely large pork cutlet. Now to be fair? We loved the Polish plate immensely - while the cutlet was nicely breaded, and the mashed potatoes were great? I'm not certain I could say that about the pork cutlet. There was nothing wrong with it. I think the flavor was fine, but it was not something that I would order again. It just wasn't my taste that's all. So would we come again? Yes. Yes we would!

Seriously. Seriously? Me with a main dish and my hubby/friends bereft of food? Oh wow. I didn't touch it until the apps arrived a couple minutes later - finally their mains arrived. Yay. The apps? Well, the chicken karaage was really fried chicken breast meat (no bones; not a prob for me, but hubby - a japanese man by birth- was not impressed). The agedashi tofu was yummy and quite good. Nice! Ok- my ramen was - yes- spicy and oily, as any good ramen should be. The bad part? I could tell the bean sprouts weren't fresh as my sensitive digestive tract let me know - fast- that the sprouts were "not" fresh. Yikes. Not a good thing - hence the demerit. Ok- first- we may come again. But gosh. the workers really need to be a bit happier to be there- or - if they can't be pleasant - keep them out of the public's eye. Out of everything, the Jjajangmyeon was the clear standout. The flavor was so good that I'd honestly come back just for that alone. Absolute comfort food. The Jjampong didn't quite hit for me -- it wasn't bad, but it felt a little bland and lacked the umami I usually look for. I've had better elsewhere, so I'd probably skip that next time. Similarly the Pork & Squid stir fry just didn't pack the right punch for me so I would pass too. Other highlights were definitely the Soy Garlic Fried Chicken and Galbitang. The chicken was packed with flavor, perfectly crispy on the outside, and juicy on the inside -- a must-order. The Galbitang was comforting and hearty, with about four bones in the soup, super tender meat, and a clean, soothing broth. The space itself is small with only four tables, and we lucked out getting one. It has such a cozy, homey feel -- like you're sitting in her kitchen while she cooks you a homemade Korean meal. Service was excellent too; they checked in often and kept our drinks refilled. Overall, a great start to my 2026 food reviews.
