Went again with a japanese friend that constantly goes over there. She picked different things I haven't tried and everything were amazing! The sushi is fresh and full of proteins on it. There are different small dishes are great for sharing and have a beer with. The service is on point as last time I came with a friend. Tbh I would keep coming here since it is constantly doing a great job and keep the quality on everything!

It's been a while since I've been back here, but it's still as good as I could remember! I walked in and it was pretty busy! The staff was attentive and I was greeted & was seated within a few minutes. It was kinda cold inside and noise level wasn't super loud. Still able to hold a conversation without shouting. We got wings, the spaghetti (classic....a must), and the katsu. The wings were okay. I loved the spaghetti & it wasn't dry. It was served on a hot plate & we added eggs to it as well. The portion of the katsu was enough to share for 2. I knew I wouldn't able to finish it. It came with the cabbage salad, rice, a side of spaghetti, and potato salad. I also got a miso soup as well. Everything was delicious & I wish I could have fit more food into my stomach, but we can save that for another day! Looking forward to coming back again.

I had extremely high expectations for this place, and they met every single one of them! We got the katsu curry, Japanese spaghetti, and the hot soba noodles. Let me tell you... I always hate when restaurants give such small portions for their katsu curry; however, theirs was MASSIVE. I literally had to take half of it home, and it was so delicious! The katsu was crispy, and the curry was packed with flavor and paired so well with the white rice. The Japanese spaghetti was interesting since it was very sweet, but I could get behind it. The hot soba noodles were comforting and warm, and I enjoyed the tempura they gave on the side. The service was immaculate; our server saw I was struggling to find the katsu curry and secretly whispered that they have it and that it's a secret menu item. He also made sure to always check up on us and fill our drinks. The ambiance felt so authentic as well; there were private sections where you could actually sit on a pillow like you're in Japan. The outside looks a little rundown, but you definitely can't judge a book by its cover. It's a hole in the wall spot, and you gotta try it!

Daruma is a solid spot with so much charm, from the traditional Daruma theme to the private tatami dining rooms. For a moment, both my wife and I felt completely teleported back to our travels in Japan. We brought our infant along, and the staff was incredibly accommodating and sweet with him. It felt like we were seated in a "family section," which was great because we were surrounded by other families with young kids. Right off the bat, my wife tried the Cha Zaru Soba (green tea soba). It reminded us so much of the shops in Japan--refreshing and cooked to a perfect texture. I went with the katsu curry, which came with miso soup. The portion was massive, the cutlet was crispy, and the curry flavor was spot on. For dessert, we tried the matcha tiramisu; it was okay, though it left a bit to be desired as the matcha flavor was a little light. Even though prices everywhere feel a bit more "premium" these days, Daruma is a fantastic treat for a special occasion. Between the attentive staff, the excellent food, and the authentic vibes, it was a wonderful experience.

Daruma was an amazing experience! We went for a friends birthday and had a great time. Upon entering, you immediately feel like you've been transported to Japan. We sat in a private room that required your shoes be taken off. You sat on the floor and had your legs dangle as it was a dropped flooring. If we weren't in a large group, I don't think we would have had the opportunity to sit here but it was a definitely a dining experience I never had before! I ordered the tonkatsu and it was HUGE! The portion sizes are definitely worth the money. The Japanese spaghetti was reminiscent of Filipino spaghetti (without the hotdogs), but still had that sweetness level to it. The staff was very nice and even let us store our friends birthday cake in their fridge during our meal and brought it out for us with candles to sing Happy Birthday! Overall, a super fun experience!

A hidden gem! Daruma is fast, fresh, and generous with portions. I got the Daruma Bowl, which came loaded with three salmon sashimi, two yellowtail, three tuna sashimi, plus a mountain of sushi rice, pickled ginger, and miso soup - all for a great price! My friend's lunch special looked just as amazing. Bonus tip! You're served hot tea as soon as you sit down. Highly recommend, it's delicious!!!

I would love to give this restaurant a five stars but it's not deserved it. The staff was unprofessional and unattended. We got there around 1:30pm, the restaurant was emptied. We got sat and ordered our foods; nabeyaki udon and bento salmon. Food was delicious! The nabeyaki broth was well balanced and flavorful. The server dropped out our foods and never came back to check on us. At 2:10, we finished eating and they dropped off our check, we paid and left. No greeting No thank you! Showing disgraceful behaviors! That's terrible service.

The food was DELICIOUS! The portions were also very big. The outside of the building doesn't look like much, but it's beautiful inside! Very comforting interior. The service was also great, everyone was very kind. I will be back!!

Highly recommend! Make sure to call ahead and make a reservation just in case! Sometimes it could get crowded and there could be a long wait. Check their hours ahead of time before calling though bc they have a break between lunch and dinner. The food is great! Huge plate of sizzling spaghetti for such a great price. Fish has always been fresh every time. The takoyaki is always amazing!! Nice presentation, servers are kind. You won't be disappointed! Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because the tables and floors are kinda sticky. But they always provide hand wipes and I just use that to wipe down my side of the table :)

    Trying this place out:)

We had a great night out and ate at one of our favorite restaurants. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. The ambiance reminded me of a traditional Japanese restaurant in Tokyo or Sandai. It's a restaurant to bring Japanese friends if they are missing back home cuisine and a good place to take your friends or go on a date. I will be returning here soon to try some more of their delicious food.

Well- let's just say he wasn't too warm or welcoming and could barely grunt a greeting. Hmm. We were quickly seated in a very japanese-looking restaurant (a good sign). We ordered two apps - the chicken karaage and the agedashi tofu. I ordered the spicy tonkatsu pork ramen (not on their web menu, but still...). First demerit- my ramen arrived before the apps did. Seriously. Seriously? Me with a main dish and my hubby/friends bereft of food? Oh wow. I didn't touch it until the apps arrived a couple minutes later - finally their mains arrived. Yay. The apps? Well, the chicken karaage was really fried chicken breast meat (no bones; not a prob for me, but hubby - a japanese man by birth- was not impressed). The agedashi tofu was yummy and quite good. Nice! Ok- my ramen was - yes- spicy and oily, as any good ramen should be. The bad part? I could tell the bean sprouts weren't fresh as my sensitive digestive tract let me know - fast- that the sprouts were "not" fresh. Yikes. Not a good thing - hence the demerit. Ok- first- we may come again. But gosh. the workers really need to be a bit happier to be there- or - if they can't be pleasant - keep them out of the public's eye. That would be a big help- after all, this was our first visit- and it wasn't too welcoming - it would have offset the bad sprouts, you know?

We walked into a casual, cozy space with a smaller dining area that can feel busy during peak hours, but the atmosphere stays simple and focused on the food rather than a polished dining experience. The setup works well for a place centered around a warm bowl of noodles, where the attention stays on what is in the bowl rather than what is on the walls. The ramen is the main reason to visit, especially the signature Kitakata-style noodles. The noodles have a thicker, springy texture that gives each bowl a satisfying bite, and the broths are where the restaurant stands out. We tried the Spicy Miso Ramen, which brought a deeper, richer flavor with a noticeable kick, and the Green Chili Shio Ramen, which offered a lighter but still flavorful option with a cleaner broth profile. The balance between the noodles, broth, and toppings made the bowls feel thoughtfully put together rather than just another standard ramen option. The toppings were generous and the eggs were cooked well, adding a creamy richness that tied the bowl together. Beyond ramen, the sides are worth adding to the meal. We ordered the pan-fried gyoza, which came out with a crisp exterior and a juicy filling, making it one of the stronger starters to share. The karaage also added variety if you want something beyond noodles, with a crispy coating that held up without being greasy. The menu has enough options for different preferences, including vegetarian ramen choices that do not feel like an afterthought. Because of its popularity, waits can happen, especially during dinner hours and weekends. Joining the waitlist ahead of time is a good idea if you are planning around a specific schedule. The restaurant moves with a steady pace once seated, and the service generally matches the casual style of the space. The staff handle the flow efficiently, and even when the dining room is full, the pace of the meal stays comfortable without feeling rushed. Kitakata Ramen Ban Nai is a strong ramen destination for anyone looking for flavorful broths, well-textured noodles, and comforting Japanese dishes. The spicy ramen options and pan-fried gyoza are highlights, making it a place worth visiting when you want a satisfying bowl rather than just a quick noodle stop. The quality of the broth and the texture of the noodles make it a step above the average ramen spot, delivering a meal that feels complete and well considered.

After a long day outside, my kiddo asked to go to a teppanyaki restaurant (very niche request, but thank goodness for the Yelp app!) We were thrilled to be able to walk-in and the host was able to squeeze us in at the grill table (which was SO kind of her). We sat with some lovely families at the shared hot-top table and enjoyed our dinner immensely - the food was ok, the chef's presentation was good, and I don't think I have seen my kiddos eat so many veggies ever which may be due to the combo of those two. We got the full chef's presentation that you see at other hot top grill restaurants: spinning egg, onion volcano, tossing of the broccoli to the guests, my kids absolutely loved every second. The restaurant was clean and well run, the servers were attentive and kind, even when my youngest kiddo dropped her drink and it spilled on the floor. I couldn't have been more grateful for their kindness and hospitality: from getting us into the restaurant as a walk-in diner, their wonderful service during the meal, and the good dinner. Eating with 2 young kiddos is always a questionable experience as a parent but I have to say, I enjoyed the meal! If we are in Hoffman Estates, we will definitely go back!

If you're looking for the most authentic Japanese food outside the city, seems like this and a couple other places are all in the Schaumburg/Elk Grove Village area. We got there at opening for dinner on a Saturday and got there just before dinner rush! This place is such a hidden authentic gem - you can tell from the decor to the choice of seating design to the actual menu and way they cook the RICE and other dishes. They serve the same grain for sushi as they do regular rice (Tamaki gold). Quality is not skipped here. We got the agedashi tofu (must get appetizer, as it's hard to really every achieve at home cooking), house special curry katsu, the beef kurumaya gozen (bento box) (which has incredible tempura, juicy soft beef), and assorted sashimi platter (I forget the name). All come highly recommended and were well worth the price point. I am just a bit sensitive about the freshness of the sushi, but I think this is probably as fresh as you can possibly get with generous cuts outside the city. Everything down to the miso soup too was delicious - best place to take your friends/family/coworkers for an authentic Japanese meal. Parking lot available out front. They had over 15 different sauces to pick from and the greens bar was nicely stocked with common and unique veggies. They had plain, egg and kelp ramen noodles yo add to your broth as well as udon. We liked the shrimp as well as the fried Chicken Nanban & Karaage. The sushi was ok. The warm bar had sautéed asparagus, pizza (for the kids), Takoyaki, beef sukiyaki, curry and other items. Desert bar was fresh fruit items, self service waffle iron to coincide with matcha, vanilla or twist ice cream. All in all it's a fun place to dine and there is something for everyone to enjoy!

While dinner is a bit pricey at $28.99, it's definitely worth it if you plan on ordering more than a couple of rolls and an appetizer. The service has always been excellent. The staff is friendly and attentive, the food comes out quickly, and the restaurant is consistently clean. One small detail I appreciate is that the water tastes great, which might sound strange, but I've noticed that some Asian restaurants have water with an off taste. I'm not very picky when it comes to sushi rolls, but some of my favorites here are the Spicy Salmon Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Fire Dragon Roll, and Pretty Girl Roll. I clearly have a weakness for spicy rolls and anything with jalapeños! Generally, the ingredients always taste fresh, and the rolls are well-balanced with the perfect ratio of rice to fillings. I've also tried the gyoza, the cream cheese rangoons, and the fried scallops. All were delicious, although I personally prefer rangoons that include crab. I also wish both the gyoza and rangoons had a bit more filling inside. The scallops are AMAZING, though, and easily my favorite appetizer I've tried here. Overall, this is a great spot for fresh sushi, friendly service, and a great AYCE experience.
