We were really excited when we found out Algonquin was getting Mr Kimchis. We have been to the Mt Prospect location and our whole experience there was great from the food to the service (which ran like a well oiled machine). This location, not so much. My family and I have gone for both lunch and dinner and I feel like every time we go, we get more and more disappointed. For one, service is never consistent, which I get when you don't have the same server every time but it's never great- Good at best. There's always a wait when you come in, even though there are more than enough tables, and you're always hunting down your server. Food wise- it's stingy. We are a family of 5- they allow you to order up to 5 meats, but you can't double up on a meat (2 bulgogi orders) and when you order chicken or pork, it literally is a piece of chicken or pork. I do not recall having this issue when we went to the Mt Prospect location. 2 out of 3 of my boys are still young, so I couldn't imagine going with all adults or teenagers. Also, 2 times now, we've been served under cooked Korean Fried Chicken. Because we can't trust that it's cooked, and my boys enjoy eating it- even though I'd be fine skipping it, I have to inspect the chicken and make sure it's cooked all the way. The one time my 5 year old had eaten the whole leg before we discovered it was bloody at the bone! The last time we brought it up to the waiter, he tried to convince us it wasn't raw, no sir that is not pink. That is red and that is blood... The last time we ate there, we went for my 6 year olds birthday. We allow our kids to pick where they want to eat for their birthdays and our son was looking forward to Korean food and spinning the birthday wheel. We had to ask our waiter 2xs for our son to do it. There was no birthday song or treat. He just dragged the wheel over, gave him a head band and let him spin.... Very underwhelming for a 6 year. Not sure if we'll visit this location again. We have other Korean restaurants we can travel to, even if it's not AYCE. read more

I especially love the La Galbi which is on the higher side of the package but its worth it. KFC (fried chicken) is still a must plus all the side dishes. The staff was very welcoming the moment you walk in. The place is new, modern, welcoming and a fun gathering place for friends. First things first! Take out your phone, scan the QR code, put in your name and cell phone number and get on the waitlist! They will text you as soon as your table is ready. There are 3 options to choose from. Option A being the most expensive at $46.95 per person with 38 difference choices of dishes. Option B is $34.95 per person with 32 different choices of meats/ seafood etc... and option C at $29.95 with 28 different food choices. Everyone in your group must order the same option choice. Kids 3-10 years old are $2.50 per year. If your child is 5 years old, it'll be $2.50 x 5=$12.50 If this is your first time at a Korean bbq place, option C is great! The Beef Bulgogi is a must order! Had dinner here this evening, our server Nathan over charged fir soft drinks. He charge by the refill. When we questioned him he said it was true they charge by the refill. When we questioned the front desk they said soft drinks are refilled at no charge. They couldn't adjust the price because their system crashed. It's in the Commons right bt the other restaurants (Bonefish, Chicago Ramen, etc.). Absolutely delicious, top shelf quality, and HUGE portions. All you can eat so pace yourself lol. Amazing mojitos and smoothies too!!! NOTE - DO. NOT. over order. $10 per person additional fee if you don't finish everything O.O! No option to take to go at all. Have to finish it all here or pay per person. It's posted everywhere so it's not a surprise but still - we over ordered lol xD! I didn't realized they had a 4th location! We were in the area and surprised to see this location. It's very spacious like the other newer ones. The decor is super cute too. We were there around 2pm on a Saturday. It wasn't really that busy. But no one came to greet us when we first got there. They had maybe 2 tables to wait after. Someone else came in after us and had to wait too. Not sure why it took them so long. Service after that was fine though, they were more attentive. If I could rate this experience/food 10 stars I would! This was so much fun and the meat was all marinated SO WELL. We enjoyed the bulgogi beef, beef brisket, teriyaki chicken, soy marinated pork the best for the meats! Omg so damn good... the appetizers were included in your meal and you could pick any of them, we went with the vegetable pot stickers and the Korean fried chicken...... holy shit. SO GOOD! the garlic sauce they provide you to dip was also amazing... so good on everything especially the beef. My most favorite item was the SPICY TOFU SOUP. It was to die for.. I had two bowls and will be trying to recreate this at home because oh my god it was so good.. the broth was everything, salty and so spicy and the tofu was like falling apart omg I will be dreaming of this soup it was seriously AMAZING. The automatic 18% gratuity is a scam. First the server did not bring out any side dishes. When we finally found him he said you had to request them. What!!?? This is the 4th location of Mr. Kimchi in the Suburb of Chicago. My husband and I frequently go to the Mount Prospect location and twice at their Randhurst. Today we went to our neighborhood grand opening of their Algonquin location. The place is well lit and ventilated. There are 3 sections: the Bar, the Ramen Library and the BBQ table. Kpop music is played at the background. The staff are friendly, attentive and very efficient. Orders arrive quickly and correctly. The BBQ grill is change frequently. Now let's talk about food. As we expected they serve us with several banchan (free side dishes). Today, we were surprised that they included japchae noodles and tteokbokki. Both were delicious. We requested additional sides like my all time favorite the cheese corn and the spicy tofu soup. My hubby ordered his KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) For our bbq table we ordered the lunch special. We had beef brisket, chicken teriyaki, spicy chicken and garlic chicken. True to what makes Mr. Kimchi different is that all meat are marinated and cut to attain the best quality for their patron. Congratulations to the Management & staff of Mr. Kimchi. PS...we forgot to take pictures of the food because we were so excited to start eating. We waited for months for the opening. Before I get into the 2 most unscrupulous things this restaurant did, I'll share my thoughts about the food. We ordered the C option ($30) which had a couple beef options, many pork options, some chicken options and appetizers & side dishes. We were underwhelmed by the food. The meats needed way more seasoning than they came with. Even the flavored pork belly needed salt. The only meat we felt was flavored well was the bulgogi beef. The fried chicken, which was nicely crunchy, was bland. We loved the veggie dumpling and kimchi, but that's about all. Husband wasn't keen on having to cook the meat yourself but I said it's probably part of the charm. Hard to gauge when the food is done, though. Strike 1 Now, for the things that left me shaking in anger, and why we will absolutely never return, the following happened: 1. I checked the menu and prices online before going. The website had two options. $30 option was limited beef choices, pork and chicken, but zero seafood. The $35 option had more beef choices and plenty of seafood, like shrimp. However, when we arrived, there were 3 options posted on the windows which differed from the website, and the seafood was ONLY on Option A (not even shown on the website). Option A was well over $40. The $35 was option B, and the $30 was option C. It was like bait & switch. Strike 2. 2. My husband and son each ordered the $12 Knob Creek bourbon on ice. When the bill came, the drinks were $18 each! I asked the server why we were being charged an extra $6. She checked with the manager, who claimed it was because they ordered it on the rocks; the $12 price was for neat. $6 for ice???! They said it had a little extra pour because it was on the rocks BUT it was NOT disclosed on the menu (my son & husband would have ordered it neat with a side of ice had they known), but they would not remove the charge. Strike 3. I have never been more furious with a restaurant in my life. We will NOT be back and we won't recommend it to friends. read more

Ultimately would take an order and not come back to table for 20-30 minutes and would ignore our requests. We asked for someone else to take care of us and they completely ignored us.
