Still one of my favorite Korean places. The bbq combination is more expensive than other ayce bbq places but still pretty good. I've come in a couple of times just for soondubu which is my favorite thing there.
Best kbbq in northern lake county!!! If you're in the area please do NOT pass up the opportunity to support a small, family-owned business and try Hwang Dae Gham! Service: 10/10 the owner was so so so nice. She helped cook the meats we ordered and was very helpful in showing us the traditional way to eat it. She took her time to treat us and serve us well and made our experience here THE BEST! Coming from someone who has tried many different kbbq's throughout the Chicagoland area, no service has ever been as thoughtful and caring as to what I've experienced here. Food: 10/10 Everything down to the banchan is homemade and made with fresh ingredients. Coming to this restaurant felt like having a home cooked meal. We ordered bbq option A - beef which serves 2-4 people. The meat was very tender and flavorful! When paired with the homemade spicy gochujang sauce it was absolutely delicious. Overall, I would consider the quality of the meat to be fairly high compared to the other chain bbq restaurants. We also ordered the steamed dumplings as an appetizer and the Bibim Naengmyeon which were all equally just as good. The bibim naengmyeon definitely hit the spot on a hot day. All in all, we had so much food we had to take home leftovers! From the service we were given, to the quality and flavor of the food itself, I loved this place so much, I would absolutely recommend Hwang Dae Gham to anyone!!
Came here on a Friday night for some Korean bbq! We sat on the right side of the restaurant where the BBQ grills were. It was chilly evening, so it was nice to be by the fire. The staff is this couple ghat has been there forever and they are so very nice. Seafood Pancake: so delicious, packed with filling and perfectly fried. Huge portion. Tteokbuki: so spicy, hurts so good lol. Rice cake were chewy and they give you glass noodles in the middle to soak up that good sauce. Jap Chae: still good from 7 years ago when I visited last. Solid dish and big portions. The meat quality was good but kind of pricey. It was super delicious!
One of the few family-owned authentic Korean restaurants up north. This place was open on Christmas Eve, and had several customers dining in, so thank goodness for somewhere that opens on holidays! Owner speaks English fine but it's a bit challenging to order and communicate, but that's how you know their food is gonna be gooood! Bibimbap-- they use purple rice, pretty typical portion size, but definitely run a bit more expensive $12 than Glenview/Niles area bibimbap $8-10. Bulgogi flavor is lighter than what I'm used to but it's still really good. I can tell it's homemade flavor. Egg is made perfectly, not leathery and still a bit runny in yoke. All the toppings run a bit light on flavor and a bit sweet, but the Gochujang was good, not too sweet so it balanced well. Spicy pork-- I liked the portion size for this one, but it definitely is expensive $18. This one runs sweeter than I'm used to, and not cooked to charred, so it's lightly cooked and if you want to cook it more at home you can. It is pretty spicy, but not gonna kill your guts. It was great with the purple rice. We found the purple rice to be a bit dry, compared to other places we have had but it could be because of ordering on Xmas Eve. Banchan-- were really good. Their homemade kimchi is fresh and crunchy, I love it, and not super aged/sour like store bought. Their other banchan are light on flavor but it's great, I like that they are light. Very fresh and definitely homemade and has unique flavor profile to their own. Overall, I really liked their foods, lighter on flavor profile for all dishes than I'm used to, but it's a unique taste to this restaurant and not a bad thing at all. Definitely high-quality homemade Korean food but is pretty pricy.
I was in Libertyville looking for places to eat, and this place came up in my search for Korean BBQ. I walked in and saw groups at tables with flattop grills, as well as standard tables. I was greeted, seated in a booth and provided a menu. I knew I wanted Kalbi Ribs, but when I saw Fried Chicken wings in the appetizer section, I had to take advantage of getting legit KFC (Korean Fried Chicken), as well! They were delicious! Nicely seasoned, crispy batter and juicy chicken. They were served witj Korean Rice Cakes that I mistook for cheese curds because of their texture and to an extent, their flavor. Paul V. corrected me when he saw my social media post, and I also confirmed with the restaurant that they were rice cakes. Did I mention they were also delicious! I did get my Korean BBQ fix and ordered the Galbi (I've seen spelled as Kalbi on some menus), which are Korean BBQ Ribs! They were served with rice and 6 or 7 other sides, including kimchi! The ribs were served on shredded lettuce seasoned with, I believe, a gochujang sauce. I loved every bite and left super full! I recommend this restaurant and even driving out of your way to go here!
Food is excellent and although there was only one waitress serving about 8 tables with a helper, she still serviced with a smile even though she was extremely busy. Funny story, TsuKasa Japanese restaurant was our original reservation for hibachi grill for 4:30pm and we arrived on time however my elderly parents arrived 18 minutes late and the manager would not seat us although there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. The manager had the audacity to say to my wife "if you don't like my service, go somewhere else" Well, we went somewhere else and found this Korean spot which we will surely return.
Oh my! I've had KBBQ at several restaurants, but this is one of the better ones! The menu has images, which is super helpful, but we always get the same dishes from every restaurant. Our staples- Japchae, bulgogi, galbi, pork belly, steamed egg, chicken wings, tteokbokki. Everything was delicious- I loved the side dishes they start you with, and they offered tea instead of just water! I also appreciate they gave lettuce without even asking for it. Mmm the meats were all good quality and not super fatty (like some places can be). The marination and flavors were so yum. We asked for steamed egg, and they happily made it even though it wasn't on their menu. The staff was so friendly! We'll be back! Sorry, I wish too busy eating to take more photos ;)
This was my first time coming here! I was looking forward to try the duck meat because I love duck and haven't found a good restaurant that has it. We ordered it and the portions are huge! Easily can be shared by 2-4 people. The Galbi was so delicious we had to order a second one. The side dishes were amazing too!! I don't know why I didn't come here before. It's family owned and the owners were so kind to us. I hope to come again soon and I highly recommend it!!

Hidden gem I've been going to this place for years and I always try something new. My go to is usually kbbq but their Korean chicken is also good. Food: so freaking good. I recommend their Tteokbokki and their galbi. They are generous with their portions and their side dishes is also as good as their food. This tastes like authentic Korean food and I highly recommend. Service: Amazing! I think this is family owned because I see the same people all the time and I see this two married couple that always greet me with a. Big smile. I think they are the owners. They are so nice and very patient. They always greet me with a smile when coming in. Their service is honestly 5 stars and I can't recommend this enough to people. Aesthetic: It is a very typical Korean restaurant. This is a good place to eat food food and receive great service. Their food looks very appetizing and they taste super good. I highly recommend. Overall, I highly recommend this place. If you want to have good food and great service, this is the place to be. Can't recommend this place enough.

The decor on the inside leaves a little to be desired, and it is a bit pricey, but man is the food good! The owners are also very sweet and attentive. Our party of 5 was seated in one of their both grills right away on a Friday night. We ordered the dolsot bibimbop, the dak bulgogi, fried rice, and bbq A beef sampler. On the menu it said that the beef sampler would feed 2-3 people, but we barely finished it with all 5 of us eating it. All of the food was super fresh and delicious, even all of the side dishes. Really good, classic Korean food with large portions and reasonable prices, located in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Hwang Dae Gham is located in a non-descript strip mall with some closed store fronts, so plenty of parking. My daughter and I were in town and needed to visit in the Northern suburbs, so afterwards decided to have lunch at a place that had meaning for us. Unfortunately, it was closed on Mondays so chose another Korean restaurant. Hwang Dae Gham ended up a great choice. We came soon after it opened, and it was already busy. It is a family owned business, and they obviously take great pride in their food and service. We had a chance to eat a lot of their non-BBQ offerings, and every one of them was excellent. Started with two appetizer portions: mul-mandu (small, bite-size steamed dumplings...supposed to be only pork but I swear I tasted seafood/fish in it...very good...reminded me of eating pelmini in it's size and density); the other was a small portion of japchae which we devoured...usually not a fan of this style of Korean mung-bean noodles, but really enjoyed it. We got two entrees (didn't share for once, so each got what we wanted). I got the squid bibim-bap (mixed rice in a stone bowl)...it's important to look at the pictures, cause it clearly explains the difference between the normal bibim-bap. They basically put a large portion of the squid-bokum, on top of rice...missing the normal cold greens. It was different, and I loved it. It was served with the requisite gochujang sauce, but you don't need it. It's already pre-seasoned. My daughter got the Gamja-Tang (spicy soup with potato and pork neck), and she really enjoyed it....like most Korean hot soups, great for a chilly February Chicago day. All of it comes with side dishes and purple rice. We especially liked the sweet glazed potatoes, picked cucumbers, and sliced mung bean pancake. Service was very warm and consistent throughout. It was just a beautiful opportunity to have a great meal and spend a lot of time with my adult daughter, reminiscing about the past and planning for the future. The entire Hwang Dae Gham environment was very conducive to that. I really wish I had two stomachs so I could sample the other dishes on the menu...all of it looked so good. We ended up bringing home most of the entrees, and it was delicious re-heated. Really inspires me to explore K-Town more when I get home. read more

What a nice surprise! Been by here a million times but never thought to stop in. With the changing seasons, I had a hunger for good Soon Tofu and ha! Found it right here. The dolsot bibimbap was very good too along with all the banchan! We'll be back. read more

I live in hawaii, and I'm Asian. So when I travel to places like Chicago, I can only tasks so much American food so I was dying for Korean/Asian food! I found this place near our hotel and It was so damn good! We don't have much Korean food on Maui so this was a treat! The meat was sooooo good. Idk what kind of seasoning was put on one of the beef dishes but it was to die for! Best I ever had! All the side dishes (ban Chan) were so authentic and good! Im a Korean food snob, and Korean,so I know. I highly recommend this place. Tip: don't go too late or close to closing because they will start rushing you out so they can clean the grill! read more

Stopped back here again for some comforting Korean food, this time to try their Korean BBQ! Their BBQ was reasonably priced and the portions seemed pretty generous. Service was excellent, we were seated with drinks fairly quickly! And generously when they saw us being slow/newbs at cooking, cooked for us also :) We had the Bulgogi and Ssamgyapsal which were both really good and tasty. It came with a dipping sauce, seasoned lettuce and onions, fresh lettuce, an assortment of panchan, spicy soup, and purple rice. Everything was delicious! Yes, it's in a strip mall, but it's clean, friendly, and the food is worth it! read more
Lots of parking in the lot. Ordered this pork stew with potatoes. It's interesting because it wasn't a very typical korean tang. Usually the korean soups that I've had are made with the korean spicy paste and chili powder but this soup was spiced with grounder black pepper. Definitely different from any korean soups I had. Sadly when I was eating the soup, there was a small fruit fly that was on the vegetables. But I didn't mind it, I flicked him off and continued eating. I would recommend this place! read more
Get the Seafood Pancake and slather it with the spicy sauce that comes on the side. You won't regret it! The pancake is loaded with seafood and scallions, and the sauce provides the right amount of balanced flavor without overwhelming the palette. The bonchan selection is plentiful and tasty - I particularly enjoyed the japchae glass noodles. The spicy seafood soup has a kick but isn't overly spicy. Yum yum and yummmmmm. This place is of utmost flavor and tastebud fulfillment and I'm so about it. It's authentic and it's homey and it's as good as it gets - and still even better. The staff here is super freaking cute. They all help out with serving and in the kitchen and they smile at you like a proud parent. Food wise everything is sooo good, great portions, and decently priced. It's no wonder it's busy here. The steamed squid looked huge but it's so good you don't realize how fast you're eating it until it's gone. The stir fried pork and kimchi paired well with the less seasoned tofu and the meat was tender and not spicy enough that my tongue died. I wanted to eat and try everything. How did no one mention the Duck BBQ (Ori GUI)?! Amazing. Very few Korean BBQ places that I've been to offer this up. Went for Thursday night dinner and didn't have any issues with a wait or service. Side dishes are great, feels like a great family owned restaurant. No frills- just good Korean BBQ. read more

Google showed me this place as I was looking for an alternative Korean BBQ restaurant. Normally, we go to the Blue House Korean BBQ (BH), but came to try this one out. I will be rating this base on wait time, service, and food. The wait was non-existent, we got there, they asked if we wanted a tabletop grill, and then sat us down. The service was great as well. They asked us what we wanted to drink once we sat down. We did take longer than usual to order, but they were patient and understanding. The waitress was very kind and always checked up on us to see if we were doing good and if everything was good. The food was great! We ordered quite a bit, We got the Spicy Rice Cakes, Calamari, Kimchi Jjigae, and Dolsot Bibimbap. The portions are way bigger than BH and I felt that the food tasted much better, there was more flavor to it. Overall, I'd definitely like to come here again with friends/company. I didn't feel judged or out of place, nice service, and food. read more

Do not waste your money here. I'm Korean and this isn't a Korean food. Dduk bokki doesn't taste anything like how it should taste, sundae is just a frozen sundae ( half of them were dry and cold), that's drenched in sesame oil, and the fried chicken is just 8 pieces of wings that's just blend. And they emphasized that they won't give me any side dishes when I called to place an order. I can't believe I spent more than $50 on this shitty food. What a complete waste of money, ingredients, and my time. read more
