Beef Brisket
Karyn M.

With the weather in the 90s, who wants to cook? We can't handle the heat so we got out of the kitchen and let City Barbeque man the grill. This is a little bit country a little bit rustic and a whole lotta tasty. My friend went for a cool crisp green salad with sliced tender brisket on top. I just went for the brisket and some green beans. You can top your meat (chicken-pork-brisket-ribs) with more sauce, I went with the sweet city. My brisket was sliced succulent and tender with charred ends. It was smoky and spicy and went down easy. The ribs sounded tempting - and of course the sides are good -- Cole slaw, greens, delicious fresh cut fries, Mac and cheese.... Glad we got out of the kitchen tonight and let City Barbeque handle the heat.

Great location in Vernon Hills, especially with all the shopping in the area. We ordered at the counter and our food came out pretty quickly. The pulled pork and pulled chicken was excellent, very flavorful and moist. We also got the sausage which I find to be pretty average. The brisket was kind of disappointing because it lacked flavor and dry. I also found the cornbread to be dry and average. Mac & cheese was pretty good. Overall, ok barbecue spot.

Best potato salad ever!

Wow, every time I come in here I'm so impressed. You start with the best staff I've ever met and add in tasty BBQ and you get a restaurant that wins every time. First - the samples. Anything you want they let you taste first so you know you're getting a meal which satisfies. I especially love the potato salad and would do just about anything to get the recipe. The sandwiches are served up loaded with the tenderest meats and you have a wide selection of sauces to choose from. They're all yummy too! Great job, guys! I'll be back next week, and the week after...this is our new favorite place!

Love this place Stacy is the bomb .com the food is amazing the staff is even better we love it they make moments memories

Excellent baked beans, lack luster potato salad
Jay M.

Ordered ribs and ribs were fall off bone. Brisket was cold . The texas toast was a toasted hot dog roll with no garlic toast flavor. The baked beans excellent. Potato salad lackluster . The sides should be half size and half the price . Ordering confusing.... Sides are ala cart. The barbecue sauces I didn't like . Need a honey barbecue or a another flavor. The chicken breast and wing difficult to cut with butter knives they supply. The chicken needed apple or pineapple juice marinated and then smoked for flavor... no flavor. Nice music and interior inviting. The staff friendly and made visit easier ordering... I will visit again ... but smaller portions and lower prices give people options for a reasonable lunch and not eating too much ... a brisket burrito with the baked beans would be a great lunch special burrito and a drink for 10 bucks? Overall , good barbecue even in Chicago

14.99 2 meat combo with Texas toast. Not worth it.

Mediocre BBQ. Horrible service. If you do try it out make sure you call first and order so you're not waiting 30 minutes for your food. Then as for the food.. well I would expect a lot more for 15 bucks than what my picture shows. I mean the brisket looks dry. The pulled pork is.... yeah. how is this 15 bucks worth of food? And the Texas toast is a hot dog bun??? Reviews speak for themselves. You would think with other BBQ joints around they'd step their game up.

They are a Seoul based international Korean fried chicken chain restaurant that serve delicious fried chicken. In my visit to this establishment, I ordered the eight (8) count of their Wings of Fire sauce fried chicken wings as I was in the mood for something pretty spicy. I asked if the wings could be made saucy and crispy, and I was told that they made them in just one way. Since the wings are freshly made to order, I was informed that there would be about 15 - 20 minutes wait before order pick-up. That wasn't a problem for me. My order was ready as informed. I had my wings soon after pick-up while they were hot and fresh. The wings looked super delicious and tasted as such as well. They were saucy, crispy, and meaty. Their flavor was very good, and the spice level was too my liking. The Wings of Fire sauce was finger licking good. Yum! I couldn't get enough of it. The wings hit the spot. It was money well spent. I loved them. Although I don't eat much breaded chicken these days, I world certainly go back here to try other sauces based wings. If you haven't checked out this establishment, then definitely give them a try or more.

This really needs to be addressed. It wasn't just the one I killed. Now for the food. We got the three meat combo with brisket, burnt ends, and pulled pork. The brisket was really good. It was on the dry side but it was still very good. It didn't have much smoke flavor. The burnt ends were just ok. There was no smoke taste to them and they kind of just fell apart when you picked them up with your fork. The pulled pork had a nice smoke ring on some of the outer pieces we got. This had more smoke flavor than the brisket and the burnt ends. This was very good. For sides, we got the coleslaw and smoked baked beans. The coleslaw I think is just a food service already prepared coleslaw. My bet, it wasn't made in house. Although it was still good. The smoked baked beans, they are made with what I can tell are three different kinds of beans, maybe a little brisket or pulled pork, and the sauce tastes like their original barbecue sauce. Now I liked them, but again, I don't taste any smoke. The restaurant is really cool. It's decorated with a lot of bbq memorabilia. Besides the gnats, it is really clean. Bottom line is, I'm hoping this was just kind of an off day for them. The food was really good with the potential of being great. In my opinion, the meat needs to have more natural smoke flavor. That's what bbq is all about. We will stop by again when we are in the area. We will definitely try it again.

The soup comes out boiling and you crack a raw egg in it and burry it in the soup and meat and in a few minutes it's cooked! The stone bowl was so cool. Hot rice in a hot stone bowl works wonders if you love toasted rice at the bottom of your pot like me, I was in heaven. I will definitely come back here and taste other things on the menu. We ordered the Silver Combo, which comes with beef and vegetables. The main difference between the Silver and Gold Combo is the chicken, and we thought the Silver Combo was more than enough for us. We also ordered the mushroom and beef hotpot and the seafood pancake. Once we ordered, the food came out immediately. It was actually so quick that everything came out at once. It was a little overwhelming trying to figure out what to eat first, but it was fine. I just wish the seafood pancake had come out first so we could enjoy it while it was hot and crispy. For the Korean BBQ, all of the meat was excellent quality and the portions were generous. The hotpot broth was on the lighter side, but I thought it was interesting that they served it with soy sauce and wasabi. The seafood pancake was one of our favorites. It was very crispy on both sides and good portion. We loved all the food, and the restaurant even prepared soft serve ice cream cones for us before we ended the night. We really enjoyed our experience at Chicago Galbi House and will definitely come back to try some of their other dishes!

The main server took orders, got drinks to everyone in a timely manner and brought chips and salsa to everyone. And that was primarily the good part of the evening. The second part was actually bringing what we all ordered. It was quickly realized that anything that had lettuce in it was going to be sopping wet. The bowls were drowning in water. You know when you eat a bowl of Apple Jacks or Cocoa Puffs and the milk changes color to pink or brown respectively taking in the flavor of the cereal? Well, that's what happened in the burrito bowls. The water became a discolored mess of burrito "juice". It was gross to look at. Suffice to say, many had to get new burrito bowls. I ordered tacos. Two tacos came on a small plate and rice on a separate plate. I don't know why this place doesn't invest in bigger plates to hold all the food as all the separate plates take up a lot of space on the table. One person got fajitas and she had five plates. FIVE. PLATES. Seriously, WTH?! And of course, I had lettuce on my tacos and they were drowning. And before I knew I had to give my chicken and steak tacos life preservers, I had already added verde sauce. So imagine my seriously wet tacos now being infused with more liquid. They were gross. But let's go back to the time before I had my dinner. Our group took up four tables. Our table was the second one to order, but our food never came out. To give a reference, one couple arrived about 20 minutes after we ordered. They then placed their own order and received it before we received ours. So the main waitress apologized profusely and said she'd bring more chops and salsa, but she'd also bring over chips and guac. Which she did do. She brought chips (no salsa) and chips and guac. Then finally our meals came. I mean my meal and the two other people at our table. Well, sort of. One person never received the side of chips and guac. Just the one for the table for the unplaced order. My wife's meal took another ten minutes to arrive. However, a server who seemed perturbed brought her an al pastor (pork) taco. She said she'd bring ordered chicken. The server got upset and then quickly turned on her heel to bring the wrong plate back to the kitchen. She almost hit me in the head with the plate. Thankfully, I saw what she was doing and turned away just in time. So she was finally brought almost the right meal by the owner who had to make four trips as he kept forgetting to bring her everything she ordered. When the bill came, we were charged for the chips and guac. The one that was brought to the table as an apology, not the one that was actually ordered. It was quickly removed from the bill. The owner thanked us for our patience and then said that they were sorry about everything but didn't know they'd be so slammed due to homecoming. Um, we made our reservation weeks in advance. They were just understaffed for the evening and the kitchen doesn't seem to know that after you rinse the lettuce, you drain the water and maybe dab it with a towel to remove all the excess water. I'll say this: there are plenty of Mexican restaurants around that we'll never return here.
