There are probably other things but I didn't look at everything. We ordered a regular Jjampong, a Gan Jjajang and a Chadolbaegi Jjampong. You order at the kiosk and then sit and wait until they call your number. All extra dishes, scissors, chopsticks, spoons, cups, water, tea and some seasonings are in the front and are self serve. If you want a to go container, you have to ask the staff. When you are done, you have to put your tray up front in the tray holder. The food was not very good. The noodles for the Jjajang and the Jjampongs were overcooked and had no bite. Also, it tasted like they cooked the noodles and didn't rinse the extra starch off before serving. I had a bit of squid from my mom's seafood Jjampong and it tasted so off I had to spit it out. Out of everything the Jjajang was probably the best but again, pretty mid. The Jjampong with the Chadolbaegi (beef) was ok. It had a decent amount of beef that was very tender. The broth was pretty mid. It wasn't spicy (even though I ordered spicy). I think they mixed it up and gave my mom the spicy broth. There was no depth in the broth. It wasn't particularly savory or spicy or had anything that had you wanting more after the first bite. I do have to say that they make the Jjampong fresh. The veges in the Jjampong had char marks from the wok - that wok hei. You can hear them prepping the food. None of us really liked our food. I'm a little skeptical about this place because it's suffering from an identity crisis and it kind of shows in the food. Let's talk ambiance first. It just opened and they took over the former Hong Ban Jang side, tore down the wall to combine the two places so the seating area will seat a solid 120 people give or take so it's a spacious place to grub out There isn't really a service as you pay using the kiosk system of tap your food order and pay. They even adopted the you bus your own table deal. Taking away the tipping aspect streamlines the business for sure! Now for the food... this is why I'm giving it three stars because one aspect of the food is missing that is crucial and the redeeming part of this rating from a 2 to 3 star is due to a very good method this place uses. So because I was feeling Hong Ban Jang, I drove up there only to discover it went belly up and this place was sitting there and feeling Chinese Korean I figured give this place a fair shake. Go up to the kiosk and get the Jjamppong (normal) and Tangshooyook (sm). It's ready in roughly a 6 minutes wait between the fried pork and the jjamppong... For the Jjamppong... it's mediocre at best. Chinese food when done right has a certain flavor profile that is drenched in the "wok hei" which is essential the toasted wok flavor that coats your ingredients. It's high heat, quick frying, and intensifies the flavors between the seafood, broth, and the veggies. The jjamppong here lacks a very real depth of flavor. It's savory sure because of the cooked seafood elements along with the sweetness of the veggies swimming in the broth but in terms of that deep rich depth of the "wok hei" that the broth should be offering... it doesn't. It's mediocre at best and that's not a very good sell in my opinion. For the pork... it's up there as some of the best tangshooyook I've had. It's crispy without being over bearing with the breading. It's deep friend with rice flour but rather than a dredge of the flour, it's almost like the pork is coated in the dredge than anything else which makes the pieces crunchy but you also bite into the meat and that's what makes it delish! With the separate sweet/sour sauce, it definitely added flavor to it. The jjamppong was $15.99 and the pork was $14.99 which is comparable in price among some of the other competitors... But in terms of flavor profile of the jjamppong, look for something else because this place seems to fall short of proper jjamppong flavor. In terms of the tangshooyook, it's fantastic. All in all, if you're hankering for tangshooyook then by all means, enjoy... If you want jjamppong, then I'd keep looking at the menu... So what did I mean about the restaurant's identity crisis? They serve pho and sushi along with the Korean Chinese offerings. They don't know what they are (as of yet)... It's a hodgepodge of all the favorites from sushi, Korean Chinese, and Vietnamese food... but if the jjamppong suffers like this, then there is a chance this place bottoms out too... we shall see as I'll also have to come back and get their jjajjangmyun and their pho. But all in all... a mediocre experience here...
