Nestled in a shopping area in Rocklin, this restaurant offers good quality Vietnamese food. This spot we discovered while in search of Vietnamese food around the Roseville area since we didn't want to drive all the way down to South Sac. The service was quick and easy, we were greeted as we walked through the door, typical "mom and pop" shop and the food didn't disappoint. My husband and I ordered pho soups and for my son, a grilled pork chop plate. The soups came out piping hot which is how we like them and very flavorful with the first sip. Now I have eaten at Best Sandwiches in Stockton as well up and down Stockton Boulevard. I had high expectations but this is considering Roseville. Spring Rolls were fresh but no flavor. Peanut Sauce was soothing, thick, and warm like baking cookies. Weird for me. The "best" Bahn Mi sandwich was definitely not. Super dry and not enough meat ratio to bread, and veggie balance. Gonna be spending some time down in the Rocklin/Roseville area for the holiday weekend, so I stopped in here for a little lunch after the drive down the 5 from Red Bluff. I read that this place, Pho Cali, offers the Vietnamese Crepe Bahn Xeo. I love that dish, so unusual from the run of the mill bowl of pho or other noodle dish. This is a hard to find dish, so I always wanna give it a try when I come across it. The service is quick and efficient here, no messin around making convo or anything. The crepe arrives and it's a decent size all right. It's thin and crispy and filled with shrimp, pork and bean sprouts and served with a big side of greens. There's a nice orange colored sweetish dipping sauce. I just poured it all over the crepe. The flavor was bright and fresh. I liked this version and would come back here again for this. More rare is the Thai version of this crepe. read more

This was my first time trying Pho Cali and I was not disappointed. I've tried a few other Vietnamese spots in the area but this place will be a part of my regular rotation now. Went in for lunch on a Thursday afternoon and was greeted and sat as soon as I walked in. The service is quick and very friendly. The young gentleman running the front by himself did a good job as it was getting fairly busy. They also had signage for a 10% off offer if you decide to pay with cash; not sure how long this offer will last though! The inside of the restaurant is on the smaller side, almost cozy. They had all the sauces and utensils propped up on the table so you have everything you need without asking. It is also one of those spots where you go up to the counter to pay after the meal, rather than waiting on someone to bring a check so I was able to pay and leave when I was actually finished. I decided to go with the BBQ pork and wonton hu tieu. I love hu tieu, however, I hate making the drive to south Sacramento to get some good soup. The wontons were super flavorful and didn't have a lot of excess wrapper like some other spots. Their broth is definitely on the sweeter end too, which I like, but if that is not your preference I would ask for soup on the side and adjust to your liking, or choose a dish that doesn't contain broth. The portion for me could have been two servings, I couldn't finish half of my bowl because they were so generous with everything! I will definitely be back to try more from them. The 4/5 stars is well deserved--but thats for the big picture. Disclaimer I'm from San Jose, particularly in the Little Saigon area. Notably an area that has one of the bigger Vietnamese populations in California. So Vietnamese food, even despite not being Viet, was like a major staple of out diet. We went here because its one of the most reviewed with highest ratings. YELP EFFECT! Roseville/Rocklin area is super nice so no worries on location. The inside was also very clean. We ordered the house special Pho, which is basically everything. And ordered a beef com tam (rice plate). There is no size choices with the Pho. But it is a generous bowl. I would say equivalent to a large in a lot of places. Also first time I had pho served in a stainless steel bowl. I dont know how well it retains heat, but I commented how it seems like it got cooler faster. The Com Tam rice plate we had came with the usual fish sauce. I ordered the one that had an egg cake. Good sign is the rice is actually com tam broken rice. I love the texture of it and I hate when places end up just using normal rice. So as for the Pho--it was good. But not great. I love the price, I love the portions as they did not skimp at all in the meat. But the quality/flavor was just ok. The meat was tougher than many places I've tried before--don't get me wrong, it was still good but it wasnt as soft and tender. And a big part was the broth itself. It was definitely more "clean" to put it in a good way. It wasn't as bold and full of flavor as others. BUT this is me just being critical, but in the grand scheme of things it was a "good" pho bowl. The Com Tam was just as good as some of the best places I eat at in SJ. The egg cake was up there with some of the best ones I've tried. Beef was flavorful and tender--though portion on this could have been better. We ordered the ones with grilled shrimp and it was cooked well. What also stood out was the GREAT SERVICE. The staff was super nice and attentive--rare over in SJ where once they drop your food you do not see them again, and if you do you are met with blank no expression. This was complete contrast. I get it, for THIS AREA (if you know what I mean) it is catered well to the area lol. You know what I mean yall. I would still come back. The little short comings arent deal breakers. Feeling under the weather and needed some soup in my life. Since moving to Rancho Cordova there hasn't been a good pho place near me and I am very picky with my pho broth. My boyfriend chiropractor is Vietnamese and recommended this place since she lives in Rocklin and usually eats pho in South Sacramento like me! That's when I knew I could trust the recommendation. They also close late, at 9pm. We arrived around 7:50pm and there was only one other table, but by 8:45 when we were leaving there was another four tables sitting with us. We ordered the eggrolls and two orders of the special beef pho. There is only one size. They come in nice metal bowls. The soup was piping hot!!!! Just the way I like it. There was so much meat in there. The meat quality was so amazing we were both so shocked!!! From Elk Grove to south Sacramento the meat in the beef pho is either usually really tough or doesn't taste fresh, but here the soup is piping hot and the meat is still tender and not overcooked by the end of my meal!! I love that the condiment plates of vegetable's come with chili oil crunch. And of course the broth is amazing because that is also a very important part. It is not just about the abundance of food they put into the bowl. It is about the taste of the broth. Our new go to even if it's a 40 min drive. This is probably the worst restaurant food I ever experienced where I couldn't eat the food after tasting it. I was hesitant to try it after I saw the health report's 6 violations but thought after so many years haven't come to this place I would give it a try. Order the chicken noodle soup and initially told the server the thin flat rice noodles but then he kept saying it was chow fun noodle big one if it was OK. I thought ok fine probably they don't have the thin one. Omg the worst noodle ever, the texture is like the noodles that have been recooked and frozen for reuse. It doesn't taste like chow fun, so horrible. I ate chow fun noodles almost every week so the taste and texture are something I'm very familiar with. I can't even take another bite. It was so bad. The worst part is they charged $1 extra without telling me that the thick noodles were more expensive even though they never warned me and that's not even my original order. Then I got the fresh roll with the super bad sauce that's bland. No taste just like a brown sauce with no taste and the fresh spring roll is bad, the noodle clumps up. The regular pho probably is not bad but the two orders I got are the worst ones ever. The service is good, the server is pretty friendly. I could definitely see why this place is popular. For pho options, we ordered the chicken noodle soup and the house special (beef). The pho comes in HUGE portions and is so worth the price. Not sure if my photos are able to show how big the bowl is. The soup is very flavorful and each bowl comes with many big chunks of meat. Even my friend who has super high standards of pho (and finds the broth at most places too watered-down) really liked the soup. We also ordered a beef stew which everyone loved. It was perfect for a cold rainy day. We were digging into it so quickly that I forgot to get a pic. The stew was packed with beef and carrots that absorbed some delicious flavor. The soup was so good and not too oily. My friend ordered a Vietnamese crepe (banh xeo), but it was a bit too oily for her. She generally likes it with a thinner crepe too. However, the fish sauce that comes with it pairs perfectly with the dish. There was also a strong coconut taste in the crepe which I liked. Tastewise, the dish was still good. When we're craving Vietnamese food and too lazy to go to Stockton Blvd, we always get Pho Cali! My boyfriend orders their banh xeo on the regular because of its size, crispness, and it's packed with protein. Their pho is pretty standard. If I'm dying from a hangover, it'll do the job! But it's definitely not the best. I've been craving pho but knew the pho wouldn't do it for me, so I tried their banh canh. The banh canh was good! The broth is light and slightly sweet. It contains cha lua, imitation crab, tofu/fish cakes, quail eggs, and ground pork. It's written in the menu as "crab and pork" so I was expecting sliced bbq pork like in hu tieu. Love the food here. The waiter was a little strange the last time we came in. Every time someone in our party ordered (I think 10 in total), he questioned us to make sure we had had Vietnamese food and attempted to deter us from the items we wanted to order because "you're not Vietnamese." Rewind back maybe five years ago. My friends and I dined here and really enjoyed it. Fast forward to the present and we came back and the place is still the same with excellent food and service. We've been missing out! My new favorite appetizer is Banh Xeo, egg crepe that has Tumeric, sprouts, onions, shrimp and meat. You wrap the pieces of the crepe and wrap it in lettuce leaves and mint and dip it in the sweet and sour sauce. It is so good! Now, Pho Hang, our other favorite pho place doesn't have this item on their menu, so Pho Cali is number one IMO. The Bùn here is plentiful. I usually get the #27, it has grilled meat (beef or pork), shrimp and egg roll. It is always so good. The Hùeu Tièu is great also, we've had the seafood combination and it is packed with lots of seafood and delicious chicken broth. The Phô here is the best in the area. We've also had the Khao Man Gai, which you won't find anywhere else in the area. I first had it in Portland and only know of one other restaurant in the area that serves it. Theirs is worth saving the money in gas. I could go on and on about the wide array of dishes they serve here. There's so many choices! Also, there's only one server but she always has a smile, even on her busiest of days. I keep forgetting to get her name but she's always so attentive and friendly. Great food man I got the Beef Pho and it was really good Pho. Their portions are the best. HUGE portions you actually feel filling. Just expect to spend some time, not like 10 minutes. Only thing worth improving is the ambiance. Feels like they dont maintain their chairs and walls and tables, etc. They spend all their time on the food which I agree. But now if they want to be known, they need to market themselves because they are located at a small strip mall. Their dishes are good just get their specialty Pho since that is what they are known and named for.
