Dropping this rating from 5 to 3 stars because of what I perceive to be a shady business practice. They increase the price on all of the dishes by two dollars and proclaim that by a hand written sign at the front checkout. They do not bring you your check. This makes it one of the most expensive bowls of pho around, and they pass off the menus with the wrong price still on them. If Covid has made you make some changes, that's fine. Just be upfront about it.Take a sharpie and change all of your prices to match what you're charging. It's not hard to do. I think they know better. read more

OK, this is the 3rd time I've been to this place. Although the Pho is pretty good, today my experience was not so good. We arrived family of 4, two adults and two kids. The kids ordered lemonade and Sprite. First of all, the lemonade is $3 and tastes like they forgot to add water to the sugar. VERY overly sweet, and they acted confused when I asked for a water to go with it. My daughter noticed black specs that looked like roach feces in the ice. This automatically killed my appetite for the moment. Dad an I ordered diet Cokes. We ordered a spicy ginger dish, spicy pho, and shrimp cakes. The Shrimp Cakes were pretty gross. But the pho is pretty good, especially if you order the spicy oil to go with it. ****The part that really gets me is that they will ONLY refill your drink ONE TIME. This is what they said after I asked for my 2nd refill. Let me back up here.... They serve REALLY spicy food, charge $3 for soda, yet they TOLD ME that they will only refill your drink ONE time. This place was the only pho place in the area that was open on a Sunday so we went and we did not regret it. Some claim that the pho broth was "darker" than others but when my pho came out, it looked absolutely normal. If you eat it without the condiments, it looks the same but if you put the condiments in, it will definitely darken the broth but nonetheless, it was delicious. They only have one size for their pho but yet the prices are different which is odd but it worked out as I was not as bloated afterwards making the 2 hour drive back to Tampa. I picked up 3 noodles soups yesterday. One of the noodle soup was shrimp noodle soup which my daughter got. She felt disgusting after putting one of the shrimp inside her mouth. The shrimp was raw. I checked the rest of them and found out all the shrimps were not cooked. It seems cooked but it wasn't. They were still blue-purple in the middle. I called back to the restaurant and trying to tell them the issue. The person who picked up the call didn't feel sorry and asked me to bring back the shrimps. I drove 15 mins to get the food and I told him I wasn't asking for any credit. Just wanted them to make sure the food is cooked while serving to the customers. It could be poison. Just recently moved to West Melbourne and have fallen in LoVE with this local Jem! This is the perfect place to add to The weekly dinner rotation. First off , Peter is just fantastic! His customer service goes above and beyond to ensure each order is accurate. We have ordered take out as well as have dined in and both experiences were fantastic! The crispy and fresh spring rolls are made fresh and come out perfect. The lobster Pho is truly unique and packed full of delicate flavors complimenting the seafood. The traditional Pho broth is rich and dense. My kids love the fried rice, chicken stir fry and vermicelli bowls. When ordering take out they are super fast with orders being less than 20 minutes! Amazing meal! We got the crispy rolls, Tom yum soup and avocado bubble tea. I get Vietnamese food in almost every city I visit and this was definitely in my top 5. The soup had a perfectly seasoned broth with fresh vegetables and shrimp. Egg rolls were bursting with flavor without being greasy. Best of all, the Boba was great and they use Fresh avocado, unlike others that use powder. Delicious and very kind and fast service! read more

I have to admit, unlike most best-kept-secret hoarding foodies, I have a tendency to be a drug pusher for good food. Always convincing friends to try places that I've known and loved, just to get them as hooked as I am. I made this realization with the almighty Pho Cali. I've been coming here since I was 15 years old. One of those places dad would always take me to when we had a reason (excuse) to make the 45min drive, from town to town, and pass on his version of a "family secret". Since then, years later, I've introduced a half dozen friends to the wonders of this hidden temple of Vietnamese cuisine, and there isn't a month that goes by that I don't hear one of them whining about their insatiable "cravings" for it... 100% honest truth. No sensationalism whatsoever. I've yet to figure out if I'm proud of that or not. When you first walk in, you're (more than likely) introduced to "Bolo", an intense (yet surprisingly reserved) old oriental waiter who not only looks like he's killed a man, but is the secret long-lost father of that one massive guy Van Dam made tap out in "Bloodsport". I've yet to ever know his real name, nor would I ever want to, and it's my guess that he is the owner, because he's almost always there. He'll sit you down, grab your drinks (their water is kind of off tasting, probably because it comes with lime wedges) and then waits on the side till you're ready to order. Yes I know, I skipped out on describing the inside of the place. If you've seen one generic Chinese/Asian restaurant before, you've seen them all. Other than the plasma TV placed in the back, you can imagine the rest on your own. Rolling marble ball in a cheap Buddhist themed fountain, pictures of cranes and huts, blah blah, woof woof. NOW ONTO THE FOOD! The menu is long, numbered, descriptive, named in both Vietnamese and English. Comprised to mainly dishes served with rice, in bowls with chilled vermicelli noodles, random options like sandwiches and traditional Chinese fare, and their infamous pho. Pho (noun, Vietnamese origin): A crap ton of whatever meat, chicken or seafood you pick, thrown in with a crap ton of veggies and noodles, along with herbs and condiments to fling in whenever you feel frisky. Submerged in the most incredible broth ever made, and served in a huge bowl that seems to laugh at your futile attempt to find the bottom of it. Few establishments can have their signature dish truly live up to the name it has been given in the sign outside the front door. This is one of those. Along with their amazingly fresh, chewy spring roll appetizers, awesome bubble tea smoothies, strangely delicious shrimp sausage and their sweet Vietnamese dipping sauce that you'll end up drenching over everything and asking for more. Even better? Most of it barely hits over $8, let alone $10. I've said enough for now, and I have to hold back from saying anymore. This place was one of those gems that got me into truly loving food, and it's potential effect on people. There aren't a lot of Pho restaurants in Melbourne...however Pho Cali delivers. Good selection of Pho blends of beef, chicken or vegetarian. The Pho broth is spot-on nice blend of star of anise, cinnamon and other fun stuff. Lots of noodles, cilantro and the portion is huge. I couldn't finish my lunch and I gave it a pretty good shot. They also provide some bean sprouts, basil and lime to add to the soup. I do wish that they had supplied a little more side items to throw in but it didn't take away from the experience. Also ordered a couple of orders of shrimp and pork rolls, fresh, nice size and pretty tasty peanut sauce. Just stopped by for lunch and was totally blown away. Lunch specials are under $10 and come with soup of the day and an entree. I chose the beef short ribs over rice with fish sauce on the side. The soup today was sweet and sour which was very good and the entree was absolutely delicious. The short ribs with the rice just went perfectly together with the fish sauce. All pho-king jokes aside ... When i'm in the mood for something lighter, refreshing, yet not feeling like rabbit food, i get some vietnamese food. Love coming here for pho or bun. These dishes tend to satiate my appetite without making me feel like i've eaten something heavy and greasy. When you first arrive at this restaurant, standard protocol is usually seat youself anywhere in the dining area off to the left (east side). this area is like a solarium with windows curving to the ceiling (see pho-to). Tables and chairs are old without a lot of frills. this is the reason to deduct one star in this review. The restaurant does have a tv hanging at one end of the room. To keep bordom at bay. But i barely look up at it. Ordered shrp wraps to start. Crunchy and made better with the sweet and sour dipping sauce. Main course for me was bun, a mix of noodles, bean sprouts, shredded lettuce, ground peanuts and some grilled meat ... In my case meat = chicken. Some more sweet and sour sauce on the side and some chopped scallions to top it off. It seems sensible that this light type of meal comes out of southeast asia. I am not really a world traveler, but i would assume the climate in the region that spawned this dish is balmy, like Florida. In terms of eating this meal, I like pouring the sauce right on and digging in. I tend to grab some noodles, lettuce, bean sprouts, and chicken ... then repeat with the occasional chopped peanuts finding its way in there somewhere. Chicken pho I've eaten pho from all over, all I can say was this was flavored water with noodles. Basil had black spots all over it, should of been thrown out. Bean sprouts were almost past serving. We've enjoyed their Pho on many occasions. Always excellent. Their broths are fresh brewed and take many hours to develop. The rich flavors are the result. We prefer the lighter chicken broth, but both are very good in their own right. My favorite Pho is the wonton and pork with white noodles! We've also tried their Shrimp and their spring rolls. The Pho Ga was plenty to eat, but was warm, not hot. The server/cashier was polite, but not attentive. It would have been better had he offered more to drink, additional jalapenos or provide napkins and chop sticks. The chicken was thin slices, not pulled or shredded. The flavor was better after adding Hoisin and Sriracha sauce. I was the first customer, but the third customer got his meal first. I ate at this restaurant during a recent trip to the area. They had a wide s election of traditional Vietnamese dishes and I was glad to see that they had not curtailed their menu offerings due to Covid. My visit was an early lunch visit and I ordered what I usually do at any Vietnamese restaurant, an appetizer of Goi Cuon with Nuoc mam sauce and Bun Bo Xao which is thin vermicelli with veggies and Beef. The summer rolls came out quickly and were huge. The nuoc mam sauce came out with it was plain and I spiced it up with chili paste and sriacrcha sauce. This is a family owned restaurant but I found that the male owner was grumpy and less than friendly and his wife was only a little less so. Despite that, if in the area, I will try this place again because I am a huge fan of the food. BTW, the family is from SAIGON so if you've visited Hanoi like I did not so long ago, they don't seem to be too interested and I think they fled South Vietnam when the Communists took over, so you might want to keep that in mind. read more

I haven't found a Vietnamese restaurant that I'm head over heels for yet, so I don't have much to compare Pho Cali to. They get a solid 4 from me. As a Melbourne native, I ate here frequently with my family, sometimes several times a week, and I loved it. After living in Tampa for a few years, and broadening my palate a bit, I wouldn't say they are top notch. Although, they are still really good. There are few things on their menu that I dislike. My favorite is actually the vegetarian spring rolls in the back of the menu. If you like fish, I'd recommend the the Thang Long grilled fish #87. If you're looking for something less expensive, I'd recommend anything on the lunch special, which comes with the daily soup. I really like the roasted chicken with fried rice #21. My dad claims their fried rice is the best, and he's eaten plenty at home in a very Asian-populated area in California. However, if you haven't been to any other Vietnamese place, you wouldn't know their pho is a slight bit overpriced. But there's not much you can do about that in little ol' Melbourne. We accidentally went in 10 minutes before close tonight (my dad thought they closed at 9). We didn't realize until we had already ordered, and apologized to our waiter for keeping him past his shift. He was REALLY polite about it, especially for Super Bowl Sunday! He insisted we take our time and enjoy our meals. All in all, the food is good. The customer service is good. I have been looking for a good Pho place since I moved from Virginia (they had the BEST place up there) I haven't gotten lucky down here in FL until now. I dined regularly from 2008 until 2015 at Pho Cali until there was a staff split and Pho Viet opened on 192. I saw my favorite pho and tom yum soups were made by the same cook I knew and liked the staff, so Pho Viet became my new favorite place. In March 2016 the broth recipe changed. It went from a deep brown color and intensely flavored spicy, beefy broth to a light and mild flavor. I returned to Pho Cali today and their pho broth and tom yum soup were both as intensely flavored as ever. Their prices are comparable, their stir fry, rice and noodle dishes comparable, but I go for the pho and tom yum. And for them, it has to be Pho Cali. It's good food at a fair price in a good atmosphere with friendly staff. UPDATE 6-8-16 Pho Viet is back to their original dark flavorful broth but Pho Cali has the favorite tom yum soup. read more

Walked into this place this afternoon looking forward to eating some Pho,but never made it to ordering. My fiancé went in to the bathroom and came out with a look of disgust on her face. She said there was a sign on the toilet letting you know not to throw any paper in the toilet. Apparently,others have followed the sign and after completing their number #2 they decided to throw the toilet paper in the trash can next to the toilet. There were no paper towels and everything in the bathroom was unclean. I was sitting in the dining room waiting on her and everything I touched was sticky and nasty feeling. People always pooh-pooh finding authentic/tasty ethnic eats outside of whatever ethnic enclave they're from. When I say 'people' I'm including myself - I'm guilty too. But really, if you think about it, what's to stop, say, a Vietnamese place in Central Florida from being just as good as anywhere in Little Saigon (any Little Saigon, though here I am thinking of Orange County, CA's because that's where I'm from)? It's either going to be the inability to get ahold of unusual ingredients or the lack of drive/effort caused by lack of competition (the 'we don't have to be good, we're the only one' excuse. Nothing else. And in this case, Orlando probably has the ingredients covered - we'd just have to be worried about the lack of competition. All this preamble is is a window into what was going on in my head as I drove from Satellite Beach to Pho Cali. I wanted broken rice, but I was afraid it was going to be gross. But why should it be gross? asked the part of my head that really really wanted broken rice and entertained no naysaying on the part of common sense. So, Pho Cali - it wasn't gross. (New tagline?) Actually, no, it was pretty good. I was floored by the variety on their menu - they included the whole island, up and down (well, not too much from the Central regions). THey had banh xeo. They had cha ca thang long. They had bun cha Ha Noi. They had pho (obviously). They had all kind of lettucy wraps. I ordered my dish, com tam dac biet, in Vietnamese, to which I received a blank stare; either my pronunciation has gotten way shittier during the three days I've been in Florida or the guy who took my order didn't speak it. Though everything was worryingly orange when I opened up my to-go box back at the hotel, the flavors were more complex than that. The fish sauce added a good tang to the rice, which needed it due to the lack of crispy garlic or chicharrones. The (orange) soy bean shrimp cake was a little chewy, but tasty, and the (orange) pork sausages tasted a lot like breakfast sausage - not what you usually find to be the case, but it worked. Shrimp cake over sugarcane was fun to chew on and worry at. The grilled pork came so thinly sliced it almost looked like Canadian bacon. Maybe they got confused between something you put on a Cubano and something you put in broken rice, but you know what? It was interesting! The caramelized edges made up for the lack of thick strips of fat you'll find on the larger cuts. Would I give this four stars back home in CA? Probably not, but you have to admire their dedication to not only going through the motions of being the only straight-up (non-fusion) Vietnamese restaurant around, but trying to bring an entire large country's cuisine into Florida's public consciousness. read more

I'm basing my review on the bubble teas alone. One star for a fairly decent menu (although MANY of their drinks listed they don't even have any more) of bubble tea flavors. Two stars for the fountains that kept my kids entertained while it took upwards of 10 minutes to get our drinks, and three stars for the overall taste. The price points are crazy high. And you can't really read the menu prices because they've rewritten them over white out. The lady never asked if we had any questions once she gave us the menu. And paying extra for boba is fine if you actually give me a decent serving. The blended bubble tea is ok but it's more like a milkshake, not the typical bubble tea we're used to. As for the Thai tea, it tasted good but had way too much ice. I finished the drink in a few sips. Overall, I guess I can't be too upset. This is one of the only places to get boba. But for over $15, I guess I expect a bit more. read more
