The pho wasn't terrible, but it had no depth or real flavor. It didn't hit the way good pho is supposed to, and the portion was small--barely any noodles, which made it even worse. The service didn't help either. It felt inattentive and unwelcoming, like we were more of a bother than actual customers. I also ordered the salt and pepper shrimp, and that was probably the biggest disappointment. It was completely bland--no seasoning, no salt, no pepper, just fried shrimp with batter. I've been many times in the past few years, and I've always had a pretty consistent experience (minus the gradual increase in prices lol). While the Pho here is good and solid, I would hesitate to say it's the best. I also haven't ventured to try out their other food options, but I am impressed that they offer so much variety. Considering the price, I feel like the portion sizes aren't that big. When the weather is nice, the outside dining area has a great ambience. I've also always had quick service. It's so been so many years since I've been here. YEARS. I remember having somewhat of a bad experience here and so I put it to I rest. My daughter dined here the other night and came home raving about it so I had to see for myself. I ordered crispy shrimp spring rolls and grilled pork pho. The spring rolls were delicious and the pho was warm and comforting. One thing I might add however, is I expected the pork to be a slow grilled meaty pork chop. Thick and tender. I received grilled pork but it was very thin . More like "shaved" pork. It still tasted ok, however I was a tiny bit disappointed. I tried this restaurant through Uber Eats; it was my first and likely last Uber Eats order. It's only a couple of blocks away from me and I figured it would be great to find pho close enough to me to walk in the future. I ordered pho and vegetable fried rice. The delivery driver showed up without the vegetable fried rice. I contacted Uber and they refunded me $11.34. I was annoyed by eh. If that was the end of it, I might have ordered again and wouldn't be writing a review but this was literally the oddest and skimpiest assortment of vegetables I have ever seen. Two small heads of cauliflower, one small head of broccoli, two slices of carrots, and that was it. While this seems audacious, it comes second to the soup flavor. My previous review 6 years ago I gave 1 star for the Pho Ga since it was literally inedible, and I haven't been back since (see previous review) Two nights ago, I had a hankering for Pho Ga and this was the best convenient option for me at the time. I decided that it's been 6 years, the place is still open - maybe that 1 star review was just a bad night.. I'll give them a try on takeout. I ordered on Grubhub and the order was ready upon arrival, easy pick up process. I am happy to report that the Pho Ga was good! Solid broth, the noodles were a little al-dente and undercooked, but only barely. My go-to for the last 6 years in this area has been Vietnam Cafe and I still think their broth is more flavorful, but their portion is slightly smaller. I usually opt for the special pho chay, the taro wontons are to die for and taste uncannily meat-ish (make sure to specify to add them if youre ordering thru snackpass or another delivery app cuz sometimes they forget). New owners update: apparently they took over in April, and have since reopened in August. Man, I was kinda excited seeing the new sign, decor, and cool renovation but the food has sunk to worse/less authentic than before. However, the new renovation has attracted a lot more customers than before I think. We ordered a bowl of deluxe pho and pork/spring roll vermicelli, and both didn't taste as great as I had hoped. The broth of the pho was overly sweet(?) and lacked depth of flavor :( They did give a free coconut jelly at the end which was cute though. The pho was super flavorful and the noodles were just the perfect amount of tender and chewy. The curry was also super flavorful and the bowl was hugeee. The spring rolls were also delicious. Got the thai tea and it was nothing special. They have a HUGE drink menu so next time I would probably try something a little different like dragonfruit lychee or something. Outdoor seating is nice. In the summer they have these super powerful fans. It was 90 degrees outside but with their fans I ended up getting super chilly. During the winter they have heaters that work super well too. The pho itself was okay. It was filling and warm, but the soup lacked aromatics that I wanted in a soup. It felt mainly heavy on the meat and MSG to bring flavor to the soup. The mango smoothie was great honestly, and they were very generous. Definitely try a smoothie if you want a sweet treat. The service was quick and kind, no complaints here. Something I noticed was the drinking water- it was undrinkable? It was very very chemically/plastic-y and I couldn't bare to drink it no matter how thirsty I was. GOSH I wish I could give this place 5 stars just based off of the Fish Sauce Chicken Wings alone!!! Literally SO GOOD. I have gotten it twice now and I absolutely loved it. You cannot go wrong with anything that you order from here, the quality is so great and fresh! I also got a Vermicelli bowl and it was so delicious. However, I do give it 4 stars because of the price. I'm not sure if it is because this is located in University City, but for the price point I would hope to get a bit bigger portion sizes. I have been to several Vietnamese restaurants in Philly and either the portions match the price or it's cheaper for less food. Okay...so first things, wow. When I first tried this place out, I wasn't too impressed but that's probably because I got something I'm not used to eating. Like I said, I grew up eating this food but this is the BEST Vietnamese restaurant I've been to thus far and I'll explain why. 1) the pho - so I've always been the one to freakin add basically half a bottle of hoisin sauce and sriracha in my pho, but at this place that was not needed at all. Initially when they gave us the pho and a little bit of sauce on the side I was like huh?! This is def not gonna be enough for me...But it actually was! And that speaks volumes. That means the broth is good enough on it's own. 2) the rice and pork chops - that thang came out glistening and sizzling like it was seducing me, but we were so full from the pho that we took it to-go. We ate it about 2-3 hours later and it stillllllll tasted amazing so that's how I know that it's good, period. This time, they gave us free dessert again AND an appetizer as well which were fried wontons. Just exquisite. Crispy out the outside and full of flavor on the inside. There's better pho if you're willing to make a trek, but if you're in University City and looking for that classic no-frills, affordable Vietnamese spot, this is it (Check out Vietnam Cafe down a few blocks if you want a more bougie ambience). The food is similarly standard, though that's not a bad thing to me because standard Vietnamese restaurant food is already delicious. The pho is great and as big as expected, which is to say it makes two meals for me - I wish they put more cilantro though! The summer rolls and rice dishes are solid as well. One pretty unique thing is the range of beverages they have, including fresh smoothies, which I haven't tried but seem intriguing. For a rather hole-in-the-wall place, service is quite good and very quick. They were cash-only when I went in the past, but at least right now they also accept card above $10 and Venmo. I dined in one Halloween and saw the staff giving candy to trick-or-treaters which was adorable. During COVID, they're even giving little cups of this coconut jelly/pudding dessert for free with takeout! A good neighborhood Vietnamese spot like the kind every neighborhood should have. read more

I ordered Pho Tai Bo Vien, but I guess they forgot the beef :( The first thing I noticed was that there were a lot of noodles. The broth tasted like flavored water and was a huge letdown. I also ordered a Pina Colada boba drink, but it wasn't good at all. I could tell that the boba was cooked in water instead of sugar. For both orders, the broth was separated from the raw ingredients. The broth was piping hot when it was delivered which was surprising. For each dish, both the quantity of broth and ingredients (lime, bean sprouts, meat pieces, spicy sauce, and noodles) was enough for about 1.5-2 servings. So at $11.75, it's maybe not the cheapest or best pho, but still a decent value. The beef eye round, flank, and brisket were all properly cooked and when added to the pho, took on a great meaty and fatty flavor. The shrimp were also well cooked and was good in the broth. Food is delicious and high quality, but staffing is poor, so service is slow. They don't have enough servers, so you end up waiting a really unreasonable amount of time. I had to go and get my own to-go container and request the check from the desk, because time was really dragging on unreasonably. I literally never leave reviews on anything, but the service at this restaurant left me feeling like I must vocalize my appreciation for the staff. We had a large group so called ahead to make sure that the establishment could handle us. The servers were all very patient and very accommodating for us while still operating as normal for all their other customers. They were very attentive and would often take care of any need we had even before we realized that we might need it. They answered all of our questions, even the kids who they handled very well. The dining area was very small. For large groups, I would definitely suggest taking your order to go or calling ahead. The serving sizes were nice. Nothing too large, but definitely a good amount of food for the price. The dishes all looked modest, but the flavor was very good. I won't list everything we ordered, but some of our favorites were the Tom Yum Soup, Crispy Salt and Pepper Seafood with Squid, Crispy Fried Beef Lok Lak, and the Taro Milk Tea. All their fruits and vegetables tasted fresh and had a nice crunch to them. The meats were well cooked and seasoned. The sauces weren't overwhelming or overpowering. However, the Tapioca Pearls in the Milk Teas were bland, so I would suggest skipping the pearls unless the texture is what you're after, and the Lemongrass tofu and vegetables didn't have much of any lemongrass flavoring. For those looking for accessibility options: This building is NOT wheelchair accessible. The building does offer two individual bathrooms for customers. The lighting is moderate and has good window lighting. For those who have difficulty seeing, come during daylight hours.
