Nothing fancy but always good food and good service. We took another couple and they enjoyed everything as well.

I've been coming here for over 10 years (since before the expansion) so I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed yet! This is probably the best pho we've had in the area. We always go with the number 14 (extra large beef pho with everything in it), but sometimes I also like to get the birds nest or the beef thing with the rice wrap and veggies, and also of course summer rolls. It's always busy here and the broth tastes amazing and authentic. The portions are very generous as well. We stopped by last night for dinner and it took a few minutes for our server to come to the table and take our orders, but after that everything was smooth sailing. Our server was friendly and efficient, and seemed to have the whole menu memorized by numbers (up to 36 at least which is what we asked about). One thing we noticed was that although the pho came with plenty of meat, noodles, and tripe, there was only like one piece of tendon in each extra large bowl, which was disappointing. We have noticed the disappearing tendon in recent years, but it wasn't always like this. Parking can be a pain in this small cramped plaza. Never get the salty plum soda unless you know what to expect (I didn't, but it's exactly as described lol). read more

I ordered a mild hot pot but what came out was so insanely spicy, I actually was in physical pain for a long time. I was only able to eat a few bites of this and that was too much. After finally flagging down the waitress, she told me that the base was very spicy, but she wrote down mild for the kitchen. Would have been nice to be warned about this when I ordered. We came here on a weekday evening and the atmosphere was nice and calm, which was helpful to decrease stimulation for my 6 year old. The pho and pork chop plate were delicious, nice and tender. We used to get food from here weekly but have recently had to take a break. They have cut way back on their portions, the food isn't always fresh anymore, the prices have gone way up, they've forgot to put things in our bag. Why the four stars? Decor - 4 stars. Very clean and spacious. Food - 4 stars. Bun Bo Hue was made with real meat and bone broth, tons of meat and a pork hock and some fish cakes. I really like the soup. XL beef pho - 5 stars. The soup was again excellent and tons of meat. Popcorn chicken- 3 stars. Not their strong suit. Skippable. Bathroom - 5 stars. Spacious, bright, and clean. They have a baby changing station in the lady's room. Not sure about the men's room. Staff - 5 stars. Very attentive and helpful. Got my daughter a to go cup for her milk. Stopped in for a weekday lunch. The first thing I noticed was the cleanliness. The tile esp in the entryway is very dirty and black. Carpets are soiled, many seat booths ripped with tape. I do not understand how this Pho 88 has great reviews. This past weekend we went there, I ordered 3 dishes (eggrolls, beef curry, and Matt Dish "Mi Xao"). Oh boy, I don't know how this restaurant is still in business. 1. The eggrolls are tiny (the size of my thumb) and it's almost $8 for 2. Are you serious? I feel like this is a ripped-off. 2. Beef curry is decent but honestly, I can make this better. It is a little liquidy. My advice is to add some cornstarch to thicken the broth (this is basic cooking knowledge). 3. Matt Dish - this is the worst dish out of the 3 dishes I've ordered. It was so salty, up to the point my tongue hurt after eating it. The Beef curry and the Matt Dish used the exact same vegetables but different sauces. I'm growing up eating Vietnamese food and by far the food here is so bad that pissed me off. The fact that the quantity is TINY (not small) but the quality is as bad. I would not recommend eating at this restaurant. read more

I have been looking for a legit Vietnamese place with Bahn Xeo with no luck until now. All the food hit the spot, we had the Bahn xeo of course, one of the beef pho bowls, and the crispy noodles. Love how fresh and flavorful it all was, lots of greens everywhere. Portions are very big, we ended up taking most of our pho to go. Service is very good and attentive. It felt like one of the few non asian faces there at the time, which really talks miles about the quality of the food. Very recommended, will come back and try other dishes. read more

This is the best spot for pho on any day! I come here all the time with my family when I'm craving pho. Their broth is amazing with plenty of protein. My favorite is the pho Tai Nam. I love love love their fried calamari/ squid. They have the best. I like to ask the kitchen to make it spicy. read more

I've been coming here for as long as I can remember. They have the best pho. And the best fresh spring rolls. On a cold rainy day a hot soup from Pho 88 makes my life a lot better. It's delicious & authentic. I haven't tried much else on the menu because my go to is always the chicken veggie pho. The prices here are very reasonable. Anybody who knows me knows that I love a good bowl of Pho! Pho 88 has the best around! I love how the large bowl is HUGE and full of noodles, chicken and veggies. I add my own spices to make it spicy and typically order extra noodles too:) I am VERY picky about the chicken that is put into Pho. Pho 88 has nice clean chicken with no "funky" pieces (no veins, blood or bones). I see they take their time to provide the best. My rest of my family typically get pad thai (chicken or tofu). The plates are so big they always bring home some for lunch the next day. And the fried rice....another HUGE helping of excellent fried rice. Not greasy like some places. read more

I have never done this before where I have gone back and changed a rating on a restaurant from yesterday. The bowl of pho I had yesterday was nothing like today. I went to the other restaurant and changed it from a 4 star to a 2 star. I know it's not fair to rate as such but this bowl here at 88 is 100% better. I'm a broth gal and if the broth is watered down the bowl is pretty much done. I goes downhill fast! Here the quality after years is still the same. Broth here is amazing and full beef flavor as any great bowl of pho should be. The ratio is spot on ie. noodles ,broth, and meat ratio. We got an order of spring roll to share and there was a chewy bite to the rice paper. Different but I love it. The wrapping is thicker and a little chewier. My fave. Called last night at 9pm for a takeout order because they close at 10pm and we didn't want to be those people who go in for dinner so close to closing time. When the phone was answered, and we expressed we would like a take out order, whoever answered simply and rudely stated "We're sold out of everything!" Ok, I get it if you don't want to take our order because it's so late then just be honest. No need to be rude. We happened to drive by because we were already on our way there and the parking lot was packed and there was a decent amount of people inside. Very disappointing cause you're one of the better spots in Lowell, but food, service and overall cleanliness of the restaurant has been declining over the years. Hope this changes. We really wanted some good Vietnamese food and found this place on Yelp. With such high Yelp ratings, how could we go wrong. The restaurant was fairly busy for lunch with only a few empty tables available. The clientele was about half Asian and that is a great sign for an Asian restaurant. There were lots of young couples and families. I think we were the oldest diners. We started with Vietnamese spring rolls. Our waiters and waitresses were promoting those and many tables ordered them. That was followed by Vietnamese sweet and sour shrimp soup with pineapple, and caramelized pork belly. My wife said the soup was really good and she gave it a 5. I didn't care for the taste of my pork belly dish, but that was just my personal preference. I ordered something that is very far away from what I usually like. Others would probably find the dish to be excellent. We noticed that a lot of families ordered hotpots and they had special booths with a heating element in the table. We also noticed that many people ordered the beef-based Vietnamese soups. We are going to do that the next time we visit. And yes we will be back to this nice restaurant. read more

I've been going to Pho-88 since 2000; pretty much since they opened. The food here has always been our benchmark for every other Vietnamese restaurant and generally speaking, IMHO, no one else could even come close. We were here last week for dinner after a very long ride up from Virginia and both SO hungry. I think there could have been a change in the kitchen because my favorite Banh Xeo (Vietnamese Pizza) was not right; too thick, undercooked and tasted a bit off (sour). The Pad Thai with Seafood wasn't the usual traditionally delicious dish that it has been either. The Com Suon Bi Cha (Rice Plate) was still very good. The food was excellent. They have good amount of parking when it's not packed. The service was pretty slow, the food came out slow, we waited a long while and when it comes to sauces they were taking their sweet time. When it comes to the sauces my family like to use a lot to eat with the hot pot. its was decent enough I usually just come here for hotpot because Boston is too far when you don't want to drive. Overall everything was good but just wish it was a little faster. I almost got upset when they said they had no more peppers, luckily they had it because i was going to leave and not eat. read more

This is my favorite local spot for Vietnamese Pho. Not to get mixed up with Cambodian Kathew. If you want good a good Pho spot I recommend this spot. But the real issues aren't too much on the food, but the staff itself. The service here is really poor. Like really bad. Lately they've been training new people so I'll give them that but even before they did it was still bad. The staff hangout around the front of the restaurant too much so I barely get a chance to have them come around and flag them down if I need something. Like it really takes 20-30 mins to get water and another 20-30 mins to get the check then another 20-30 mins to pay the bill. I'm not gonna lie if I paid cash that day. I just get the check and leave the cash there and leave. This is what annoys me and my friends the most when we come here. The service. Once in a blue moon will you get a server that's coming up to you asking if you need something. I praise those moments. Food- I mostly come here for the Pho and soups. I can say they're really good and enjoyable. Definitely can say it's my favorite spot to go to for local Vietnamese Pho. The stir fried noodles here are good, but I personally think they overload on vegetables. I don't recommend ordering the spring rolls because for the price you only get 2 very small rolls, the sauce for it is really good though. The hotpot here is alright. Nothing too bad or too great but it's really enjoyable if you wanna stay local. Of course driving out to Boston is a hassle but it has its great hotpot restaurants. The restaurant has a good number of broths to choose from. I've tried about 4-5 different broths now and I can say I really only like 1 or 2 of the lot. Most of the time when ordering meats, seafoods and vegetables. I see myself and recommend just choosing 2 different combos. The price for a single item is basically the price for the combos. The sauce for the hotpot isn't too appealing to me, but it does. Quality- The food here is really good. The choices for hotpot come out fresh. I've had some but I haven't had too much problems on food quality here and I come here a numerous amount of times. Most of the time I enjoy eating the foods from here. Overall- Food here is good overall. The pricing for hot pot can get a little expensive. The more you want the more you pay basically, but it's alright for a local spot. I'm not sure to happened to this place, but it has gone down terribly. My girlfriend and I ordered 2 pho bowls and a scorpion bowl for 2. We got our food before we got the scorpion bowl. What restaurant does that??? I asked the waiter if our drink was coming, and he said he was waiting for the bartender. I have never heard that in my life. You guys have a bar but no bartender?? Okay and not to even mention our scorpion bowl HAD NO OUNCE OF LIQUOR INSIDE!!!! It was all juice. I was so upset I let my girlfriend finish it. She was even upset but they were charging us for it anyway. Now let's get back to our pho.. usually when you go to a restaurant to sit down & eat and order soup. It's supposed to come out hot and steamy right? Our bowls definitely didn't come out hot. Usually, I'd have to blow on my noodles to eat it. But here at Pho 88 , I could feed it to a toddler without blowing on it. This is sad because this was my go to spot if I wanted beef brisket. The food is so so; the people who work there 5 out of 10 is rude. They close at 10 but they stop serving food at 9:30 which they don't let people know. It's who you know for this place. Dropped by while visiting the area and ordered the seafood pho with clear noodles and bun bo hue. The bun bo hue wasn't as spicy as it looked. It was really mild and comes with the perfect amount of kick. I'll definitely come again for the bun bo hue. The seafood noodles is about the same as any other place. It does come with a generous amount of cilantro and onions. My bowl came out warm with the noodles clumped on the bottom. The bun bo hue came out pipping hot. The restaurant was quiet and had a small parking lot for convenient parking. There were lots of families and kids here dining. Perfect place for a warm bowl of soup! read more
