I went to Pho 815 on the opening day. I normally don't have high expectations for new restaurants and like to give them time to work out any issues, but I couldn't wait to try a new pho spot in the area due to the lack of options for Viet food in Rockford. It was busy so the service was a little bit slower which is what I expected. The place is nice and modern inside but it was extremely warm, not sure if the air was working that day. Crab rangoon and spring rolls were great. Beef pho with meatballs was good. Combo pork chop rice dish and egg rolls I have had better elsewhere. The menu was really interesting but we left disappointed. The service was poor and the server did not understand the food ingredients. I received something different than what I thought I ordered. Pho 815 has become my go to spot when I am in Rockford! What I like about Pho 815 that all their dishes are solid and delicious. Even my mom, who is a very picky eater, enjoys the food here! Their prices are very reasonable with a good amount of portions...so come hungry!! I normally get their speciality pho or their bahn mi dac biet always with their egg rolls or crab ragoon. The egg rolls are always fried perfectly with glass noodles in the inside. I could probably eat more than two, but gotta save room for my entree! What I like about their speciality pho is the broth. It's light, but heavy on flavor. The broth can really make or break a pho. Also the bowls their serve it in are a good size, but not to the point where you never seem to make a dent in your soup. Now lets talk about their bahn mi dac biet! One day I couldn't figure out what to get so I was like you know what lets get both! Yep, ended up inhaling that bahn mi cause it was so good. It had it all...ham, pate, pork, possibly headcheese..who knows! All I know it was just one of the best bahn mi I ever tasted. Yes, it doesn't have the traditional baguette, but the bread was still flaky, light, and really allowed the the fillings to be the star. Even I at first was like whaatt no baguette, but a bite in and I changed my mind. I say check out Pho 815 while you're up in the RockVegas. The food is amazing and has something even for the pickiest of eaters. The location is also near the highway and State St which makes it a breeze getting to. read more

I am in town for a short while and was craving some pho and banh mi. So I decided to try this place out for dinner. It turned out amazing! First of all, this place is clean! The tables and chairs were so well kept and clean, it felt nice just sitting at the table. I had their special banh mi and O-M-G it was the best Banh Mi I had! Whatever ham/cold cut they had in that sandwich was soooooooo good. And they stuffed it full! It was so delicious, I'm drooling just thinking about it while typing this up. I also ordered their special pho. I liked it, but not totally in love with it. Reason being that I personally prefer firmer noodle, but that's a personal preference and I'm not sure what type of rice noodle they use. If it's freshly made and not dehydrated type then it's typically not as firm once you cook it. The soup was flavorful and the beef brisket was buttery! Overall a very nice bowl of pho. I gave it 5 stars because how well kept the restaurant was and the overall food quality was excellent. I will probably make this spot my regular dinner spot whenever I'm in town from now on. read more

So overall I wanted to give this place a 3.5, but Cassie was such a great server it deserves to be a 4. The good - fresh food, definitely hot, so hot you can cook raw veggies after they bring it out. Broth was good, but even better with some chili oil added. My two complaints would be the beef in the pho tastes like deli meat tossed in broth. I think it would be off the charts if it was chunks of real beef. Second gripe would be the amount of meat in the banh mi. It was very tasty when you got to the meat but it will take you 3-5 bites from either end to get to it. Overall I was satisfied and might bit this place up when the weather gets cold. read more

This restaurant was such a lucky find. I was visiting family in town and spotted Pho 815 near my hotel. The restaurant is fairly new and very, very clean. They had several authentic Viet options. We ordered spring rolls, ban xeo, and the pho with everything. The portions are huge and the taste was authentic. We had plenty of food to take back to our hotel. Our waiter was very friendly. I regret not getting the Banh Mi sandwich. I'm sure it would've been just as good. Looking forward to coming back and visiting family again so I can come back for more! read more

We called to make an order. There were four items we wanted... they were out of two of the four items we wanted. When I got there to pay, they reviewed the order correctly. When I got home I realized that one of the two items that we were able to get was wrong. The only item that we ordered that we actually got was incredibly underwhelming. We've order bun bo hue from numerous restaurants, and always enjoyed the beautiful broth.... Until now. The broth tasted like warm water. Furthermore, the prices listed on the menu online is way wrong. The order cost $10 more than the online prices indicated. I am upset at the entire experience and will not be returning. This is a very unassuming location in a mini strip mall. The interior is very clean and well kept. The young lady that waited on me was very pleasant. The food was hands down delicious! This is the best Pho I've had since leaving Los Angeles. I had the beef since I'm not a fan of tripe It was fantastic. The pancake was out of this world. If you've never had one you must try. It is more of a thick crepe and has shrimp, sweet onions and sprouts. I don't know what gives it the unique flavor it has but you must give it a go. I will be back to try more. read more

My husband and I have eaten here two times and have had a wonderful meal each time. It's a clean, modern space. The servers have been engaging and friendly with us. We are fans of Pho and can definitely recommend the meatballs with it. Additions (bean sprouts, lime, jalapeño) were brought to the table. Large portion that I'm never able to finish (tasty leftovers!). We have ordered the Spring Rolls each time and love them, the peanut sauce is awesome. Update: I ordered my usual sandwich and the marinade was off, making the sandwich just okay. So I am taking a star off. I hope it was just an off day but I haven't been there since so I cannot say it was a fluke. Original review: Hands down my favorite item here is the marinated pork banh mi. I would literally eat it every week, it's that good and why I've given 5 stars. If you don't like fatty meat then don't get it. For people who like full flavored fatty meats this is a must try. They make their own French baguette and it's deliciously perfect (crispy but not hard outside and soft interior) and has a unique shape to it (oval). Filled with pickled julienned carrots and daikon, cilantro, cucumber, jalapeño, one other fresh herb I'm not sure of, and thinly sliced fatty marinated pork... it's very traditionally authentic Vietnamese sandwich. I've eaten banh mi all over the US (including having lived 3 years in a predominantly Vietnamese area of LA) and this is my favorite marinated pork banh mi out of anywhere. Seriously, try it. If you don't like it, give it to me and I'll devour it! Side note, I'd take one star off because even when I call in my order Ive had to (sometimes) wait up to 15 minutes once I got to the restaurant for my precalled in sandwich order. However, it's so good all was forgiven when I took that first bite. I've had a few of their soups and they are good but nothing spectacular. It's excellent for Rockford area where there's limited choices but just good if you've eaten at places in Chicago or LA or my family's house. Definitely authentic so if you are not use to fatty meats, tendons, etc just be careful what you order (stick to the appetizers, chicken pho, fried rice and things like that). But if you are in the mood for Vietnamese soups these are good and filling It's a very clean and modern atmosphere. So in that way very American. I found service to be varying but always fairly prompt for dine in. The servers: American girls tend to be flippant and lackadaisical but the Asian guys are attentive and pleasant. read more

Just tried Pho 815 on our way through Rockford. WOW!! It was awesome! I had the Com dac biet (chef's specialty rice dish) which was great! My husband had the banh mi marinated pork sandwich and it was awesome! I would highly recommend you try it! This is probably my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in town! Not only is it super close to home but I've never had anything more delicious!! I can't remember the actually name of the dish but it's P7 on the menu and it's my go to! It's a spicy beef and peanut pho, and I'm constantly craving it. Just the right amount of anything in it and the broth is super delicious. Just enough of a kick in it for me but on the table there's condiments to make it spicer if you prefer. The Thai tea is my go to drink when I come. It's always just made so well. It's a kinda small on the inside but it's super cozy and always very clean when I go. So maybe this shouldn't warrant an update review, but I felt that it did. A friend of mine and I visited Pho 815 on Thursday. I really enjoyed my Pho. He liked his but certainly prefers other locations. He was also Leary but open to the "trimmings" included in his Pho. Well it's now Sunday and he's just gotten over what is being described as severe food poisoning by his physician. Two days of very unpleasant sickness. I felt awful for him. I was not affected at all luckily. I guess this is just a friendly heads up that their specialty Pho contains tripe and other endtrails.
