I personally like this place, here's the break down: Food: avoid the cold noodle vermicelli bowls (disappointing), egg rolls were okay ( but I like the ones at Pho Broadway in Chinatown much more), but the rice dishes were good, pork chops to grilled shrimp/chicken/beef are tasty (ask for lime slices for added flavor to the fish sauce and hot sauce does wonders to any dish). The Pho was pretty good too, not the best I ever had, but pretty good and generous portions which I love. I've tried their vietnamese bbq sandwiches for only $3.95, pretty good, not the best I ever had, but I wasn't disappointed. 3 1/2 stars- 4 stars. Drinks: tea, smoothes and coffee. I've only ordered their green tea, average, run of the mill. It's funny when you order ice water, they only pour it half glass, but surprisingly I only need that much and if it runs empty they refill it for you. I wasn't happy about it, but then I thought to myself, most of the time I never finish the full glass anyway, so in a way, they are being very conscious of not wasting water, which is kind of cool and eco friendly of them whether it's intentional or not. So, I'm glad they don't pour a full glass. 3 stars. Service: Excellent, they are nice & polite here and surprisingly korean owned and runned. 5 stars. Prices: More expensive than in Chinatown and other asian neighborhoods, but those lack nice decor. Started driving around one night and ended up in Montrose, and was pleasantly suprised by the number of restaurants out here...Of all restaurants that I decided to choose, I really don't know why I chose this one.... Given that it's a pho restaurant, I don't have super high expectations for the service. But the pho was just not very good - I enjoy my noodles a little tougher than most people and enjoy the chewy texture but come on, these were definitely not blanched long enough, not to mention the broth is pretty much lifeless. Watered down, no complexity in flavor...why? I yelped pho places in La Canada and came here because it was close. I'm making the drive to Glendale or something next time. read more

Want authentic Vietnamese pho? Go take your ass to Orange County or San Gabriel Valley!!! Want some good filling eats while in this white part of town, cruise by this little joint. Sign on the door says Vietnamese FUSION so quit the uppity entitled whining about authentic Viet grub. The folks who run this joint are Korean so deal with it. The food tastes just fine. The portions are generous enough. The broth is standard and not too salty on its own. Some will complain about bland flavor so if very picky about it, bring some MSG in a ziplock bag or ask for some fish sauce on the side. That should have the most sensitive of savory palettes satisfied. Authentic Viet joints are not known for their bedside manner when it comes to service. Given the demographics of this neighborhood, they are friendly and attentive here compared to the Viet places I have been to. The food comes quick and steaming hot. Can't ask for much more. If you do, stick to fine dining. Asian noodle houses are quick and dirty. This is the food of the peasants back in Asia. Pho22 on the other hand is clean and the decor caters to the customers. Here, they greet you when you enter and exit. Here, they say thank you. The one thing I would change about this little joint is to have the option for egg noodles in the soup. We used to go to this place every week since it opened. I must say, the Pho is usually really good, fast, and fresh. It's Korean run and owned. A couple of months ago, we went in on a very busy Saturday night. We waited 10 minutes for a table. We waited another 10 minutes to place our order. We waited another 10 minutes to get some water. As we were waiting (what seemed like forever because we were starving), we noticed that all of the Korean customers were served first. Even a large Korean group that came in ten minutes after us already had their food. After another 15 minutes, we finally got our Pho. We ate and left as fast as we could. I'm half Korean, but I don't look it. So, I guess I don't get the special priority treatment! I'm embarrassed for them. We'll never go back there, and neither will any of our friends. Me and my friends always used to say " i wish someone would open a pho restaurant in La Crescenta so we don't have to go all the way to LA to get some". BUT NOW!! we dont have to!! This place has an ample amount of parking spaces ( street and a lot) There was never a line when i went. They have pretty good service and they give you some BOMBBBBB pho!!!! I don't know why it is so hard to get more water. The fact that you have to ask several time to have your water glass re-filled is just rediculous. I have been here 4 or 5 times now and that is definitly my biggest complaint about this place. The service is not great. But the food is good. This is one of my favorite places to go to when its cold and/or rainy outside. I like the combo no. 1. I don't go crazy on the hot sauce, and I like to order some Thai tea to cool me off. The service is prompt, and the food is consistently good. I don't know what is up with these people are complaining about the price. I think the prices are reasonable for something that is consistently good and you don't leave hungry. As for the people complain about the authenticity of it, obviously there are very few Vietnamese people in the area and I am grateful that these Koreans opened up this place. Not the greatest Pho in the world. In fact, it's pretty watery and flavorless. I got it once and didn't do so again. Now, the bahn mi on the other hand are pretty tasty! Both the BBQ beef and pork are delicious and have that delectable pate spread. They're a little small (but cheap), so I usually get two and call it a meal. Unless you know someone else who might do the same, pass Pho 21 up. Not the place to take someone who's never had Vietnamese food, that's for sure. read more

Convenient location, food tastes good, service is ok. However, when you take your Pho dish to go, they cut the amount of noodles in half! So tonight it was no different: I ordered the large size as usual, plus extra noodles (since I already knew I was not going to get enough for the amount of broth). Even the extra ones was almost cut in half. So I went back to ask to add a little bit more in my large box (half empty). The server was relunctant and asked the owner, who replied to the server (in Korean): "this customer is always like that". It's like, I had to beg to get what I was supposed to get. Not to mention the inconvenience of having to drive back! And the server said: "once you put the noodles in the bowl, they expand and it becomes a lot". NO! Negative 10 stars When you order a meal like the pork chops they give you the porkchops but half of it is all fat and they just tell you this is it. and I asked the waitress who claims ignorance and non speaking English. are you going to eat this fat? So I gave them benefit of the doubt so I came a second time with some people and they ordered when the chicken rice and beef it's very shredded you order chicken it's like the shredded a quarter of a chicken. Absolutely no protein it's like you get ripped off over there it's like I might as well throw bunch of rice together and add with that whatever's in my refrigerator and call fried rice with chicken and make it pretty with parsley on top. It's OK that some can't tell the difference between "The Asians"...this restaurant is owned and operated by Korean-Americans. I've been to many Pho restaurants authentically owned by Vietnamese and not. This one gets 3 out of 5 stars. The service is always good. The food is nice and tasty. One thing this Korean owned and operated spot has going for it is it's broth. The broth is very much authentic in flavor. Most Pho found in Ktown has a Korean-influenced broth that's good but different and unauthentic in flavor... Hohum at best. Granted this is the closest Pho place to my parents' house, so we decided to swing by for a little soupy pick me up to help fight off this darn flu that has been plaguing my life for the past week. Well, like a good yelper I knew not to have unrealistically high expectations. So I came in just hoping it would be edible with enough Siriacha (love me some roster sauce). Arrived to a nearly empty shop. Service was mediocre and so was the food. The pho broth was a little lackluster even with the siriacha, even considering my low expectations. To put it bluntly the broth was not good, not tasty at all (does pho come in a can? this pho tastes like it) Overall, would I come back. I won't rule it out but that is only because its convenient location. Still if I had the extra 10 min, I'd drive out of the La Canada/La Crescenta/Montrose area for some REAL pho. read more

I like it. I think the Pho has improved a lot since it opened and now I think it is actually pretty good. I've had a lot worse in K-town. Service is pretty good IMO, but I don't ask for much, just Pho and water. I appreciate their speed. The vermicelli salads are pretty good too if you want something different. My culinary tour of Los Angeles continues - this time with a pho place. I've been wanting to try a pho restaurant for a while and today worked out quite well. It was getting late for lunch and this place was right around the corner so I figured it was a good a time as any to get my first pho. I was going to give them 4 stars, but after reading some of the other reviews - I had to agree with some of the downsides mentioned - but I did find it delicious. I had the small order of rice rolls - which my fellow Rhode Islanders will know as nime chow. An old Vietnamese friend once told me that the dish is actually called goi cuon. They were fresh and crisp but seemed a bit over stuffed with lettuce. The peanut sauce was good but much thicker than I am used to. The nime chow served in RI generally has a light, sweet, clear sauce with minced peanuts and garlic - much different than this, which was more like all natural peanut butter from the cupboard as opposed to the refrigerator. I also had a small pho with rare steak and brisket. It was a sizable bowl for a small, but then again this was my first time eating pho - so maybe that is the norm. The broth was light and tasty and there were plenty of noodles. The meat was tender and very thinly sliced and I felt as though there was a fair amount - although I'm not sure I agree with the "rare" label placed on it. The pho came with a plate with sprouts, lime, jalapeno slices (2 thin) and Thai basil as well as a small bowl of fresh cilantro. I felt that there was plenty for the size of the serving of soup. Several other reviews I read gave Pho 22 a poor rating for service. I was seated right away, and had my order within 3-5 minutes of placing it. The point others made which I agree with - but didn't notice since I was content, was that my waitress never even checked back to see if I needed anything else until she left the bill on the table. I also thought it was a bit pricey for what I got - but I'm not sure what other pho restaurants are like, so I'm not sure. It was about $15 for a small pho and small order of goi cuan. The table had a bottle of sriracha sauce for those who like more spice. It was Huy Fong Foods brand which is the original and still the best out there...some disagree, but they are wrong. There was also a squeeze bottle of Sambal Oelek (thicker chili sauce) and a bottle of Hoisin for those looking to add some sweetness. I would certainly go back again but would like to try other pho spots first so I have something to compare this to. read more

I actually enjoyed Pho 22 with the previous owner. Service was better, portions were larger, and overall I enjoyed dining there better. Something must have changed once management shifted - the service isn't as attentive (although the food came out fairly quickly), and the portions definitely got smaller. Apparently 3 stars means A-ok on Yelp, and that's not real far off of my opinion of this place. I've eaten here probably 6 times, maybe a few more. The food is solid quality. I've had their raw beef, brisket, and meatball pho- all good. I don't foresee myself ever needing to eat as much soup as they manage to fit into one of their reasonably priced large bowls, but they're a viable option if you're very hungry. (I tried finishing one once with a side of spring rolls (which are ok, but not the best I've had), got about 2/3 of the way through, and surrendered before my stomach exploded.) The staff here are all very nice, friendly and attentive- I have never had a bad experience with them, and have always felt very welcome when I come into the restaurant. Usually I don't need to ask for refills, but if I ever do, the servers always smile and attend to it promptly, no matter how harried they might be at the moment. There is one thing I would like to point out: this place doesn't have an extensive vegetarian menu. The one purely vegetarian dish I found on their menu was the fried tofu vermicelli- this is pretty AWESOME. I came in here one day while I was still trying to make friends with salad and had this- satisfied all my meat cravings, and had a nice, full flavor. One caveat- they still serve the noodles with fish sauce, so if you don't eat fish, I hope you like eating dry noodles. It's a good fallback option for me whenever I feel like eating pho on the weekends and not driving too far, though I still always feel like I'm cheating on Pho Hut when I come here. read more

I've only been to 4 pho places yet I would say this is my favorite! Why, say you? Here are the reasons: 1) I ordered chicken pho and everything tastes fresh!! 2) Portion size is good! The small looks like a large! 3) Cute, quaint place with windows that face Honolulu! Right now, Honolulu has Christmas lights all over so the view from my seat is lovely! 4) Customer service was sweet and quick! 5) Price is normal for pho! Since I've last been here I feel this spot has lost its ability to produce the punchy, powerful flavors usually associated with Vietnamese cuisine. The broth is quite bland, the noodles are not fresh, and the meat lacks some flavor. I find myself having to drown the broth with sriracha and lemons while constantly dipping not only my meat but also the noodles and vegetables in the hoisin sauce to 'upgrade' some of the flavors that seem to be missing. read more

I've been going to this pho spot for a while, its not the best pho I've ever had but its also not the worst. People should understand the area its in and the demographic. Its a solid choice any time. I usually order the rare steak and brisket, and its always pretty good, service is fast and friendly. Also always order the egg rolls, it's probably my favorite thing off their menu. Pho Sho! I had to jump on board with the Pho trend! I really enjoyed this one. Big portions, lots of garnishing, flavors were good.
