Anywhere I travel where there is a Philz, it is a must. I am truly an addict of their Iced Oat Mint Mojito. When the Chicago relatives made a surprise visit with the cousins to Universal Studios, I knew there was a new Philz location in Studio City. To begin, Philz hands down has one of the BEST mobile ordering apps. The pre-order process is easy to use, locations are easy to search with Apple Maps/Waze/Google Maps as an option, and Apple Pay is an option for checking out. The real time order process is stellar with it even mentioning which barista is preparing your goodies. This Studio City Philz has the quickest turn around. Usually I need to place my order 30-45 minutes ahead of time (while often sitting in traffic) for the Hollywood or Glendale locations. Here, it was only 10 minutes from order to pick-up. Score! Of course, I was "that person" who forgot their mask at home *eye roll*. I wore my partner's mask and asked if they happened to have any disposable face masks they could spare. They didn't flinch and handed me one. I was ever so thankful and used it the entire day! They also had two clean yet silly (in a good way) restrooms available for customers. I found myself "LOLing" at their POP ART tiles in the bathroom. Particularly the voyeur taking a picture of you while you're on the John... I haven't been to a Philz in years, and that was the Santa Monica location. Today I was in the Studio City area, and Philz was a few stores down from my appointment. I vaguely remembered the mint mojito being fairly good, so I went with this and a chocolate croissant. The service was nice, and it only took a few minutes for the drink to be made. I was going to stay to enjoy this but the available counter space was rather dirty, so I decided to take this outside. As I remember, the mint was fresh, and this was pretty good. If it was hotter out, this would have tasted even better (I happen to have picked a day where we were in the high 70's). I'm glad I skipped Starbucks and tried Philz today. read more

I am not a coffee person. Or a tea person. I do like hot chocolate, though, and I have heard that Philz makes the best coffee from lots of friends! I went to this location in particular with some friends who were craving coffee, they enjoyed their drinks, but the whole process was a bit frustrating. First of all, this whole area has terrible parking, but there's not much you can do about that, I guess. Second, when we walked up, absolutely all of the tables were filled- not with someone getting a cup and a chat with a friend, but all people with laptops and headphones in. I get that they want a place to work, but man, it was off putting that we couldn't sit anywhere to enjoy a local coffee place. When we came in, the line was right in the middle of the store, so we went down through that, but then we had to go to the counter, order the coffee on one end, go pay on the other end, then come back and wait in the middle of the bar for them to call our orders? The logistics of this setup were terrible, and the service was so slow! Even if I liked coffee (I got a hot chocolate, which is sort of off menu!), I would hesitate before returning here. read more

Philz Coffee is a cafe that is atypical- there is a lot more personalization that can happen with your drink because of their system. You choose the roast blend, milk option, sweetness, etc and can ask for adjustments if the drink still isn't to your liking. Another thing that is different is that they don't do any espresso-based drinks, and instead specialized in pour-over coffee. So a lot of the usual drinks found at other cafés aren't found here. For example, I came in wanting a latte, which they don't explicitly make. Luckily, the baristas are really talented and accommodating, so they were able to make a latte-like drink as an alternative. The drinks are pretty cheap as well, for the level of personalization that comes with each cup. A small Jacob's with soy milk, no sugar, was only $3.60 before tip. Pretty dang cheap for Los Angeles coffee. Additionally, this specific location is really great for getting work done or meeting up with folx. There is plenty of seating at both 2-person tables, high bar seats, and a communal table. They also offer free wifi and a few outlets. One thing is that it can be quite noisy in here since it is so large and popular, plus the background music that they play can be a bit distracting if you really need to concentrate. read more

I have to agree with Chris, the coffee is great but the valets in the back are horrible. They drove me away. They told my handicapped wife she couldn't park in the handicap space which is in direct violation of Federal and state ADA laws. I know it's a private lot but, these guys are out of control, they harass your customers and Shake Shack customers too. If I don't find street parking the hassle is just not worth it. read more

Another wonderful coffee shop! Today I ordered the iced mint mojito and it was delicious! It tasted more minty than mojito-ey bit it was still great. My friend ordered the iced rose drink and that was very good but much more sweet than mine. I'm surprised I didn't get hot coffee considering that's my go to but I was very pleased. She made my mocha with cold brew so it would be stronger and I genuinely felt she cared personally to make a drink I would enjoy. I still chose to go in cause I was craving a Mint Mojito and I was going to see a friend so I might as well get her one too. Philz knocked it out of the park with service and delivery. I made the rookie mistake of ordering at the register first. Instead of sending me to the barista line, they politely took my order. Note to self: I have to fall in line and order from the barista first then pay at the register. Before paying, you tell the barista your order and preferences. When they are finished completing your bevererage, they will ask you to taste your beverage so they can make adjustments before paying -- totally different coffee experience. The tip you give the team seems more well deserved flipping the service norm. They also sell vegan Blue Star Donuts to pair with your coffee.
