Mann, I waited so long for a coffee shop to be on Bay street and I am so glad they brought a Philz to the area! This is one of the bigger Philz locations that they have. The ceilings are really tall and there is a lot of space for communal work. The staff is so welcoming and inviting. I believe the barista that helped me was named Justin, and they were so helpful in taking my order, personalizing the experience and chatting with me about my day, and when they gave me my Mint Mojito, it was made to perfection! Wow... whoever was working this location today at 8:25 AM PST was so incredibly rude to me on the phone. First of all, she didn't know the store hours off the top of her head, which is fine, but then acted as if it was a major inconvenience when I asked if she could check with someone so that I could have the accurate information. After she begrudgingly went and got that information for me, as I was about to thank her so much she then told me I should've just looked on Google to find it. She then promptly hung up on me. When I called back to let her know I didn't appreciate that, right when she heard my voice she hung up on me again. She would not tell me her name, but I highly recommend that the Phil's Coffee team evaluate the employees who were working on this date and time to ensure they get proper service and etiquette training. I love more Philz are coming to the East Bay, no longer having to make a trip to SF for a cup, we now have Berkeley and Emeryville. Located within Emeryville Bay Street, parking is a pain but the availability of caffeine options external to Starbucks is a treat. If you arrive early morning before most stores open, parking is a lot easier Inside Philz, the interior is expansive with plenty of seating. The ordering is setup towards the back right and the pickup counter is beyond narrow and tight. Again, early morning not so bad, late morning and beyond it's congested like no other. It's hard to navigate to the person designated to prepare your order as there are rarely names on display. Today, the only name on display was Yessenia, my person was Justin. There were three areas designated to pickup drinks based on the separation of drinks on the counter. When the drink was ready, my name was not called out as I typically experience. And when the notification was sent that Justin had my drink ready, it took an additional five minutes for my drink to appear on the counter. Not sure if customer service did not carry over to Emeryville as it had in Berkeley. I received no welcome in, thank you, have a great day... usual salutations I've come to know and welcome from Philz. To be honest, this is my first time visiting a Philz since the acquisition by a new owner(s). Maybe customer service is not a part of the new owners model. Whatever the case, the coffee is still amazing with the unfortunate lack of connection or humanity. Only if I'm in the area, desperate for a cup, would I revisit. There was so much engagement behind the counter with an intentional disconnect across the counter. I hope this was an outlier experience under new management and not the norm. read more

My friend ordered two drinks online, but when we arrived, we realized that one was hot and the other was iced. We had actually wanted both drinks hot, so one of them was ordered incorrectly as iced by mistake. I explained to the barista that I had accidentally selected the iced option and asked if it would be possible to remake it as a hot drink. The barista kindly said yes and asked me to wait for a bit. I also wouldn't even consider myself to be a coffee person, let alone a fanatic, but this location has so much room for seating. Located on the bottom level next to the new Face Foundrié and a couple doors down from Fogo de Chao, you'll find a new-ish Philz East Bay location. The shop is clean, pretty spacious, and if you're a follower of the brand, exciting to have in this neck of the woods. Service is quick and very efficient, and I love the evolution Philz has and is taking with trying new flavor profiles and fun new items. Currently they have a Caramel Banana Brew (seasonal), but worthy of trying if you are into this new trend and banana hype! It can be ordered hot or iced and is one of their more sweet options ~ Cold Brew, almond milk, banana caramel sauce, and a caramel swirl. We did ours iced and opted out of the caramel swirl topping. For kiddos they have the perfect sized 'mini' banana bread that you can get warmed. It's not a slice, but an actual mini single-size (toddler-size haha) loaf..and it's delicious! So glad there's a Phiz in the Bay St Plaza! If you get here before 9am, the metered parking is free. And typically it's empty since everything is closed except Philz. You can order ahead or inside. I usually order inside so they can help me collect my order. I'm usually always unsure of how to order and with their help, I haven't had any disappointments. I like how you pick your coffee bean flavor, the amount of cream and sugar you want. The staff is always super knowledgeable about the beans so feel free to ask away! I really liked the custom rose coffee. You can get any of their coffees hot or iced. They also have you taste it before walking away, just in case you need any adjustments. read more

Bay Street is literally on the come up. Mumu Hotpot, new stores, and a Philz?! And it's a 3 minute drive from work for me. Uhoh.... This Philz location is actually my favorite location in the East Bay. And that's a lot for me to say because during undergrad I spent most of my time at the College Ave location. This Philz is spacious and has tons of seating and outlets available as well as outdoor seating. The only downside is parking - either street park if you're lucky or park at the parking garage. I usually do mobile orders and it's always ready on time! Thank god it's super close to my work so I can easily get my caffeine fix. read more
