Incredibly disappointed; So, in fact disappointed with "The Slop" that I won't ever set foot back here. I would hardly call this a Deli; - Nevertheless, what do I know. Everyone seems to love this place. Overall - Phil's continues to serve its "Unsophisticated" and "Loyal" local crowd. Oy vey! Waitress was kind! Antiquated set up, but - seating was comfortable. Another Queen City "in the cut" spot that is absolutely one of the best Mom and Pop operations I have visited in awhile. This spot has the feel of a cozy neighborhood diner with that feeling that everyone in the place knows each other - and everyone loves the food! This is only my 3rd visit but I can't seem to settle on a favorite menu item. I have ordered two or three sandwiches on every visit and they all have been on point! Special shout out to the Philly and the Brisket sandwich- I have ordered one or the other every visit. Save some room for desert because they are all homemade. I had a fabulous brunch with my daughter Tammy and my granddaughter Piper Thursday. The place was packed. We had to wait outside for about 10 minutes before being seated. The wait was well worth it! The place reminded me of the diners back in the 60's and earlier. The menu was ENDLESS! They serve everything. I had a Turkey Ruben. I could have had a pastrami or roast a beef Ruben. I'm watching my school-boy figure, so I went with the Turkey. So yummy! Their potato Salad is the best I've had in years. The wait staff are true hustlers. They have to be, because Phil's is obviously a very popular diner. It's in no way a fancy dining establishment, but nobody seemed to mine. Me, least of all. With food and service that good, who really cares. It was spotless clean and the busboy was a true hustlers! They were also very friendly. As busy as they were, our waitress still took the time to answer a couple questions we had with a huge smile. I will DEFINITELY return. I highly recommend Phil's for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Not sure, but I don't think they serve dinners. Please give Phil's a try. You won't be sorry. I promise. read more

This is the deli in the strawberry hero area. They have shared parking with several other stores and restaurants. It's a mom and pop shop and get affordable food that comes out rather quickly. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They definitely have several regulars. They established staple for the community. Phil's Deli reminds me of home. I grew up in the mid-Atlantic and this is the first time I've found a true deli (Jewish deli, specifically) which featured my favorites done the way I like them. We tried 4 items, all of which met or exceeded our expectations: 1. The omelet with sausage and cheese. It was a solid pick (my husband's) and the hash browns and English muffin were good too. 2. The matzo brie. This was done perfectly. And the portion was HUGE. 3. Lox (or nova) and bagel with lettuce, tomato and onion. They also included capers. They use the good bagels and didn't give me a face when I said "scooped and toasted". (A true test of the "at home" feel.) :) 4. Matzo ball soup (they call it chicken soup and you add the matzo balls). Now, I have my internal biases, I know. I loved all of these because they tasted like they tasted in New York's Stage Deli (when it was open) and Maryland's Parkway Deli. So, if you don't like the food there, you wont like this spot. But, to me, it tastes like home. read more

A nice little kosher style deli hidden away in Strawberry Hill. Their sandwiches are good and are quite a value compared to what you normally see. They servers are friendly and really do a good job keeping up with a busy lunch crowd. The corned beef overstuffed sandwich was really as was their Reuben. The sides are good. I recommend the potato salad. The only downsides were the knishes were a bit rubbery sadly. They sometimes run out of matzoh balls and potato pancakes when they have them so go for an early lunch for you best shot at getting them. I wish they made more though and did not run out. Recommended as they are solid but not spectacular. read more

What a blessing it is to have taste buds when places like Phil's exist. Standard menu options range from eggs and omelets to deli sandwiches and bagel platters. All the comforts of a proper New York style deli. And so when you're dining New York deli style, who can resist the awesomeness of a Reuben sandwich. Hot pastrami, melted Swiss cheese, tart sauerkraut and tangy Russian dressing (they also do it with mustard) on rye bread and then grilled. I might have the taste buds, but I sure don't have the metabolism and so Phil's makes a slight bow to such folks and offers a "turkey" Reuben sandwich. Perhaps a handful fewer calories, but that some great taste. The drink cooler includes the usual Coke stuff, but the hidden treasure is the Dr. Brown's sodas. And my favorite, the Diet Cream which goes surprisingly well with a "diet" Reuben. A great meal and at only $10, a bargain. It's not exactly easy to find, but it's there between the drug store and the grocery store. read more

The best chicken salad I've ever had... it seriously it outstanding! It has just chicken, like mayo and very finely chopped celery. We went for lunch after the place wanted to go to was close. Its a deli with every type of sandwich, you could think of along with salads. I ordered the chicken salad salad. I wish I would have just got the chicken salad that's all I ate. It was so good. My brother and I both got a half pound Togo. The lady waiting on us told us they make20 pounds a day. My brother got a club he really enjoyed as well. Serve was a-little slow but it was a nice day, so we enjoyed the outdoors. read more

Yesterday, I had one of the worst dining experiences in recent memory and it didn't have anything to do with the food (which was barely mediocre). It's clear that the restaurant is run by family as they were fighting and yelling at each other throughout the dining room. I've never been so uncomfortable in my life. They should be more aware of how their behavior affects the people they are serving. Will never return. read more
