My friend and I came to town for a few days and stayed in Mt. Pleasant. Philosophia was one of the highlights of our trip. From the service to the dinner to the drinks, everything was really good. The atmosphere was also so beautiful! We decided to do drinks and appetizers, we got the spanakopita, goat cheese potatoes, dip trio, farmers salad and meatballs. Everything was so flavorful, the only thing we didn't love was the spanakopita but the bartender (who was our waiter) gave us complimentary drinks because he knew we didn't care for it. I've been to Philosophia for dinner several times and it's always been great. Food is excellent. My lunch experience not so great. Service was very slow. It took a good 15 minutes to get our drinks and once we ordered it was 30 minutes before we got our food. We all had salads. In fairness to the wait staff, it seemed as though they needed more help. Had a delicious brunch at Philosophia! So glad to finally make it over there. Absolutely delicious Greek cuisine. We stared with hummus and feta and then split the Greek salad, calamari and spanakopita. Everything was delicious. They give a huge amount of pita which is nice. We couldn't finish it, but we're glad to have plenty. We also enjoyed drinks, Bloody Mary and mimosa. They were $5 each which was a great deal. Popped into this awesome place spontaneously last night. What a treat. What an experience. Philosophia is an authentic Greek restaurant right here in Mt. Pleasant. You know a place is brilliant when you leave the restaurant with a circus in your mouth. Their trio sampler is a must and their chicken dish is cosmic. Even better, the service is spectacular. James the bartender allowed us to sample drinks. Highly recommend his Paloma Diablo,(wow). What impressed us the most is when the owner Justin Hunt came out to introduce himself to my wife and I and surprised us with his incredible baklava. It was like the finale at the end of a 4th of July fireworks show :) I'll let the photos do the talking but this restaurant is a must. Stopped in to Philosophia recently on a weekend night with no reservations for a party of 4. We were happy to be seated despite lack of reservation. We had to opt for outdoor seating, which isn't always ideal in August. There were plenty of fans and shade in the outdoor area, which kept things comfortable. Our meal was fantastic, from start to finish. We all started with salads- I had the burrata and beet, which was amazing, while others had the traditional Greek salad. For my entree, I opted for the whole branzino. It was both light and indulgent, if that's even possible. We also tried a few bottles of various Greek red wines. My in-laws, who were joining us for dinner, recently returned from Greece. I was worried they would compare the entire meal to the meals they had in Greece.. and they did, but they found Philosophia comparable to their meals in Greece! Splendid dinner here with fantastic service, delicious food and a very mellow, yet modern vibe to match. Philosophia does Greek food right and is a much better choice than the ever popular Stella's. We ordered a ton of items off the menu and I could not find a flaw in almost any of them. To start, the calamari was perfectly battered and fried with just the right amount of seasoning. The zucchini cakes (call them balls) were profound, melt in your mouth delicious, juicy and packed full of fresh zucchini flavor. The avgolemono (soup) was great and while homemade is always best, this version was excellent. Warm, grilled pita bread with a well balanced and flavorful tzatziki compliments their Greek salad made just right. Tasty whole chunks of feta, fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and onion delivered a solid Greek salad. The moussaka was splendid and this is a dish that's easy to ruin and cook too dry, too oily or just not full of any flavor (restaurant mentioned previously). Flavors were flying, high quality beef, great seasoning and a decent portion size. Excellent. The local flounder was also cooked to perfection and the fish itself was fresh and delectable. The meatballs were probably my favorite dish of the night, again high quality beef, perfectly seasoned with a little avgolemono sauce to match. Perfect. My only reservation was yiayia's potatoes; not crispy enough and not enough feta on top. Otherwise, everything else was just perfect. Look forward to coming back and trying more dishes. read more

I've been wanting to come here for months! I finally got the chance last night and it was amazing. The food was so fresh, delightful, and well-seasoned. We had the Greek salad, the lamb, and this zucchini fritter dish with mushroom sauce that was so savory and delicious! It tasted like a hash brown or potato cake drenched in mushroom sauce. The Greek salad with the square feta was tantalizingly good (the lemon drizzle brightened it up so beautifully and mixed well with the other seasonings). We shared the lamb shank entree. So tender it was falling off the bone. I didn't find my margarita to be the best (but to be fair, that's not their specialty), so we also ordered one glass of white wine for appetizers and a red wine for dinner. I cannot wait to go back. If you read nothing more, know that it was THAT GOOD ... in fact, it was FABULOUS! While reservations are not required, they're encouraged ... it was so easy on Resy. There's plenty of parking (it's a few doors down from Whole Foods) and lots of seating ... dine outside on the patio, or inside. We chose inside. The interior dining room is clean, bright and tasteful. Tables are spaced nicely. The hostess greeted us warmly and seated us quickly. Our server, Vadim, approached us immediately. The restaurant was well staffed and energetic. (People walking in without a reservation were offered seating st the bar or outside.) The beverage list seemed small with a handful of signature cocktails but there's plenty of wines and beers to please. (I'm sure 'simple' drinks like bourbon, a spirit and tonic, etc. we're available.) My initial choice was an Aperol cocktail but when Vadir offered that it was kind of spicy, I opted for a glass of a Greek Rose which was lovely. Hub chose Merlot. The pours were decent, and at $11.00 each, quite satisfying. The menu offers many selections for those diners that like to share, or who want to make a meal of apps and/ or small plates. We passed over the dips and spreads and soups and salads and went right to the Mezethes (small plates). Joe selected the Octopus ($13.00), served with a small chickpea salad. It was perfectly prepared and beautiful. He loved it. My order of Mussels Saganski ($15.00) was honestly the best presentation and most delicious order of bivalve mollusks I've had in years. Though the mussels were small, they were tender and there were plenty of them, sautéed in tomato, onion, garlic, ouzo butter and feta. I was thrilled when I found a well season, thickish broth (loaded with all the ingredients underneath) that begged to be mopped up with the basket of warm, grilled pita delivered to our table. I could have stopped right there ... but, there was more to come! Joe had asked Vadim which dish was the most representative of the Greek cuisine. His recommendation of the Pastitio ($23.00) did not disappoint. Two ample pieces of this dreamy classic Greek dish hit it out of the ballpark. (I've made it before, but my 'skinny' recipe did not compare ...lol). Closely resembling lasagna in appearance, there were layers of well seasoned ground beef, ziti, a creamy bechamel sauce and dreamy whipped ricotta. It was divine. My choice, the local fish of the day ($29.00) was golden tile. Soft and buttery, this grilled, perfectly portioned and prepared fish was superb. Served with a melange of sweet corn, zucchini, crispy polenta in a skordalia (thick purée) with a touch of lemon butter, it was fabulous. The courses were served to give us ample time to enjoy each mouthful without being rushed. We didn't notice desserts on the menu so Joe asked. Vadim rolled off at least 5 which all sounded delish. Though we were quite full, Joe was set on his fave, Baklava. As a practice, I pass on dessert. Heck, I ate almost the whole basket of pita ... lol ... but when I heard one of choices was peanut butter gelato, I just couldn't pass it up. Just when we thought Vadim was coming to our table for our dessert order, we were served a complimentary, surprisingly light olive oil lemon pound cake served over a bright raspberry coulis. Absolutely yum. A lovely surprise, well appreciated and quickly devoured; however, while Joe was stuffed, I had to have that gelato and it didn't disappoint. The order, two large balls of melt in your mouth pb heaven was plenty to share. I was thrilled, quite full and very, very satisfied. The owner stopped by our table which is always a nice touch. Vadim was attentive and engaging. Move over, Nico and Langdon's. This new kid on the block has quickly joined your holding on fine dining East of the Cooper. Hurry up ... you'll hug me! read more

Newly opened, just about a month. Decor was warm and inviting, very well done. Plenty of outdoor seating that was very thoughtfully layed out. Bailey was our server, she was exceptional. We shared the octopus over chickpea salad appetizer. It was a really nice portion and at $17, a very good deal. I had the pastitsio, which is greek lasagna and my husband had the catch of the day, wreck fish. Both the appetizer and the entrees were outstanding! Okay I admit it, my experience eating Greek food has been limited to numerous diners in New Jersey. Always great food but never quite sure how they compare to a true Greek inspired restaurant. So now I know after dining here last night there is a huge difference and that's meant in a positive way. Suffice to say never been a big fan of Greek food until right now. Because of the quality of the food and the great atmosphere and service Philosophia is certainly now one of my go to restaurants in the Charleston area. I won't get into all the details of our meal except to say we ordered a variety of items and shared some of the food so everyone was able to taste multiple items and all unanimously agreed that each bite was one to savor. Greek gem nestled in an attractive compatible group of stores...seating outside happily sprawling out front...high and low tables...an interior featuring white industrial decor. The staff is a team. Their culture is to enjoy, share, and revel in the smells and tastes. Justin is an experienced master chef with an impressive résumé of culinary experience. Manager Zhanna is delightful, knowledgeable and warm. She frequently came by to see how we were and engaged in conversation with us. Our waitress Laura was always beaming, attentive and open to questions and suggestions. The bar area is lively and the interior space has obviously been expertly planned and executed beautifully for maximum comfort and interaction. We had the best table near the kitchen and were able to view the action. What dedication and commitment by all! Thank you to Dimitri, Justin's NY partner and childhood friend, who was virtually present with his chosen appys. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner tonight at this new Greek restaurant in the WF shopping center. Both my husband and I being Greek, were interested in enjoying authentic Greek cuisine. We were delighted to find the food delicious, the staff very accomodating and knowledgable. I must say the portions are quite generous as well. We started with a Greek salad that was large enough to share and so so good. My husband had the Avgolemeno Soup and it was almost as good as my moms. I had the salmon and it was delicious and tender. My husband also ordered the Greek meatballs, which I told one of the owner's, Dimitri, were the best Greek meatballs I've ever had. We were so full after the meal but couldn't resist taking home an order of Baklava. We nibbled later in the evening at home and it was incredibly yummy! The restaurant is newly opened and I believe will be a terrific addition to the restaurant scene in MP. I like the minimalistic vibe and decor, it reminds me of my visits to Greece. This place is AMAZING! Been here twice and both time, the food and service were awesome. We've been to many many restaurants in the Mount Pleasant area and this is now one of our favorites. We started off with the greek salad and it was very fresh, light, and tasty. My husband had the pork shank and wow. It was fall off the bone tender and so flavorful and delicious. The rice was more of a risotto and the gravy was exceptional. They complimented the pork perfectly. I had the chicken and it was good..not dry and the stewed beans were light and full of flavor. I loved the feta on top of the chicken. This place knows how to do flavor! I wish I would've taken pictures of the food. But it was all too good and I couldn't wait to eat! Our server was so nice and helpful. She helped us choose a bottle of wine, since we are not very familiar with Greek wine. It was the perfect wine for our meal.
