I searched for car radio shop in Center City or South Philly and found Diamond Auto Radio. I drove up yesterday and asked them to look at it. They were inb midst of a job and asked if I could come back today. I live about 20 blocks away and they said they'd take me home and pick me up if I brought in today. True to their word, I arrived at 9:45 AM, was driven home, they called me at 10:45 to say the radio was dead and they'd replace it with a Pioneer model for a very fair price. At noon I got a call that the driver was outside my house to take me to pick up the car. I was even more surprised the unit has a CD player (my old one only played cassettes) and there a jack to play from an MP3 player! Oh, I forgot - it has a remote too! The neighborhood where Diamond is located is full of auto repair shops but Diamond has an parking lot and inside the store it is clean and immaculate. I couldn't have been happier with Milan (the managerr) and his helper (and guy who drove me home) Eric.

Instead, there are buttons on the steering wheel. After 8 months I never got used to the buttons, especially on a traffic circle. I found aftermarket stalks and bought them. Turns out the steering wheel and airbag have to be removed to do the installation and I was not up to that with either skills or tools. I worked for hours to find someone to install them. Tesla would not and most places would not touch the job or if they did wanted a fortune to do the work. Marc was great in explaining everything and setting me up with an appointment. The place has a great vibe. They set me up with WiFi and the music they play is great. I highly recommend Imagine Audio as my go-to place for anything involving the dashboard.

I'm saying this so you know that I understand what good service is. I came to Pat in a pretty desperate situation. The fob for my Van's lock and alarm broke that morning -I was stuck at home with a locked and alarmed van. I started desperately calling around to places trying to get an appointment. To be honest, I knew this was a problem and I had already done a bunch of research. I actually wanted to get a new alarm system that would automatically set itself if I forgot to do it myself. It looked like I was going to spend a couple hundred bucks, but that's fine with me. At such short notice, I couldn't find anyone who could do the work sooner than a few weeks. Fortunately I found Pat at Alarm and Tint Specialist. He was super friendly on the phone, tried to explain how I could bypass the alarm system so I could drive, and said he thought that he would have a new fob for me. The next thing he said really surprised me: my alarm didn't need to be replaced, he could reprogram it so that the doors locked automatically. After I figured out how to bypass the alarm, I drove over and true to his word, Pat reprogrammed my alarm and gave me a new fob... While I waited. So, it turns out most of the alarm companies are owned by Viper, so I didn't need an exact match for my fob (which is no longer made). Okay, in case you're not getting it: NOBODY had told me this. They all wanted to sell me a new system which would have cost hundreds of dollars more than what Pat charged me to reprogram my alarm system on the spot. I'm going to add a couple more things: 1). I had a good time hanging out with Pat while I was there. We talked working guy stuff, owning your own business, but unlike a lot of mechanics and technicians I've met, he wasn't a grunt. I had a good time talking to him. 2). His shop is a big garage and he does the work right there. Other places I had been to in the past were more like a showroom so I appreciate it that Pat is unpretentiously excellent at what he does. He knew the product, he knew what to do, and I didn't feel like I needed a big, pretty, shiny store to get the job done. I wish more businesses were as easy and straightforward to deal with.

I bought a used radio from Ebay and Josh installed it in less than a hour and he did it while having a conversation with me! Everything works perfectly and his fees are very reasonable. Immediately he went to the settings and changed it to day mode and said, you've had this car for all these years and you didn't know this? I said no, I didn't!! I can see thought the camera now!
