It's nice to see that the options are always flowing in the south side of town, and Philly 77 gives you a taste of something not ordinarily served around here. Employees are always happy and eager to serve you at this establishment. Lots of hot sauce options too for spicy lovers. Ordered the original sandwich, bread was nice, sirloin was a tad peppery, but still tasty. The fries in a cup were great, and the trays are kind of a nice difference from the usual. A great spot if you are hankering for a philly sandwich. I ordered their Buffalo Philly and added onions and bell peppers. All the flavors go very well together. Their fries are crisp and flavorful (it is hard to find places that don't over season). The service is friendly and prompt. This place is very open inside and has a patio area that is set up nicely as well. I haven't tried their shakes, but they sound promising. This is a great place for lunch! The seating is cozy and the staff are very friendly. The sandwiches are a good sized, and they are delicious. They almost take me back to Philly. I was pretty excited when I was on my way to philly 77 cause I had heard a lot of good things about it, sadly I was bamboozled. My biggest problem with this restaurant is there choice of cheese. As many already know I am a cheese connoisseur so I hold my cheeses to a very high standard, and this failed every test. It's basically the 5 dollar bucket of nacho cheese that your family gets for little Billy's birthday bash nachos. The sandwich is actually pretty solid, however they cover that in the same clumpy cheese so it really takes away from the only redeeming quality. This place is pretty good. I def recommended you try it. However, they 100% need to step up their bread game. If you've ever had a sub in Philadelphia you would know what I mean. As a Philly Cheesesteak fiend this was a place I had to try. I had heard mixed things beforehand, but my experience was great. Instead of the usual philly cheesesteak I got the "super" one, which I believe is double the meat. Regardless it was much bigger than the regular one my friends got. I coupled this with the "cup of fries" which I highly recommend over getting the basic fries. Their basic fries are just fine, but the cup comes with cheese, ranch, bacon, and takes things up several levels from standard fries. The fountain drinks were good, and I bring that up because too many places have lousy fountain drink options. My one balk would be that I wish my cheesesteak had more cheese. It only had a small line or drizzle of cheese, so it didn't look as great as other cheesesteaks I have seen. I would definitely try this place again though. read more

Great Philly steak place and it's in the Valley! Any attempt at cuisine that is not BBQ or Latin influence does not have much chance at longevity in the RGV. Philly 77 seems to have a good chance. There is a neat frying pan as the sink but the knobs for the water are not ideal as they can keep turning. The Philly cheese steak was average and the fries were ok. The chicken was cut in cubes versus the traditional way you would expect a chicken steak style sandwich. For a dollar more the fries come in a cup with cheese, bacon a ranch. I would recommend it. My friends came down from Austin so my fiancé and I decided to treat them to a new restaurant they haven't been to. We brought them and our first impression was that it was VERY well kept and very modern. Basically the ambiance was spot on. As we were standing in line we kept scooting back and forth to evade serverstaking out orders and going to pick up more, as well as people getting refills and going to get condiments. So we felt that the waiting line should be relocated somewhere out of the way. Secondly we noticed a few desserts going out and they looked delicious! Now here comes the downfall, the price was average but the waiting was ridiculous. I know it was a Friday night but it wasn't THAT busy. My fiancé and I waited a good 30 minutes before we got our order (One Buffalo Turkey sandwich with the fries in a cup) We noticed people who ordered AFTER us got their food and some people who ordered BEFORE us still haven't received their full orders. I went up and said that we've been waiting half and hour for one sandwich and (I'm assuming their manager) just said "We got it it'll be right out" and was brought to me in less than 2 minutes. So I'm assuming they forgot or cleared out order. A few suggestions we have it to pick up the table numbers as orders are brought out because the servers looked REALLY confused looking around the restaurant with multiple numbers scattered everywhere. Lastly we feel that the manager could have been a little nicer to the customers. Never heard an apology about the wait for numerous tables but just an "okay yeah it's coming" or some remark. All in all I expected it to be a very relaxing and enjoyable dinner but it turned out to be us eagerly waiting for our order for 30 minutes and feeling like we're a very hectic restaurant.
