I've been coming to this office since I moved to…read moreFL as both the previous iteration and this "new and improved" operation accept my federal insurance. I've since switched carriers and I get even better coverage for the same great products and smash-bang service. Small office and showroom with a fairly decent collection of lenses and a couple of fairly competent reception staff. Terry the optical device specialist is fantastic and has been here longer than the rest of them put together including the two optometrists. Only trouble with this place is that they're slower than molasses! That's the reason for only 4 stars...sitting in this joint for nearly an hour and still hasn't seen the doctor. Anyhow: the optometrist we both dealt with (Dr. Geary) is a young fellow who seems relatively new out of optometry school but still knows his job well and is straightforward. No nonsense and quite a pleasant doctor to deal with. He was very thorough with my eye exam as he reviewed my old chart. They gave me the typical new case, cloth and load of eyeglass cleaning fluid with my order. Only took a bit over a week to get them back from the lab after my exam and fitting. Certainly a bit better than average as I don't care for EyeglassWorld and all those sorts of joints where they slap together glasses like a line of Big Macs. Yuck! I also got the missus to go to this place from her old eye doctor and she seems to be pleased. That's what I am doing here now...waiting for her to be seen, dilated and examined so I can drive her back home. Here's hoping I stay outta the dog house on this one!

Today I went for a contact lens appointment... they would not even give me a firm price for the exam, other than it will be over $400+... and we will tell you what the final cost is going to be after the exam. The last time I had a contact lens exam at this practice the cost was $254. At $400, it is a 57% increase from my last eye exam three years ago. When I questioned the huge increase, I was told that Dr. Tupps kept his prices the same forever and that he did not charge enough. When I shared that that's a 20% increase per year, they again said he didn't charge enough. I left. Called another local eye doctor. My total eye exam cost, including contacts, was $215... Which they quoted me upfront. Within an hour I had my contact lens prescription and saved at least $185. We will not be back. They lost me as a customer. They also lost my husband as a customer. When I used to go to Dr. Tupps the waiting room was always packed. Today I walked into an empty, waiting room... Now I know why.

Every visit ends up being hours long, planned for that today. But this was going to be all day and not be able to get glasses which is the whole point of the visit. Why wouldn't you call the patients scheduled and explain the situation? People take time off work. It's just a bit disrespectful of people's time and effort. I was contacted by the office after this review. Appreciate that and the explanation of the unfortunate timeline of events. I have bumped this up a star (ok) but overall my experience was still what it was. I explained that this is an experience of over 10+yrs of my wife and I as patients. I was told the practice no longer operated as it once did which is great but not reflected the day of my visit. Willing to give them another chance and again appreciate them reaching out to me.

I've gone to many other places, but Dr Todd was the only one that got me the perfect contact lenses match. I've mentioned the discomfits I've had with other brand to other optometrist locations with no avail to having the right fit of contacts so I've had to wear glasses most of my life. One day I decided to switch over to Shettle vision with recommendation from my sister. My first visit I told doc what discomforts I've had with contacts and would like to have contact so can do activities without the worries of my glasses flying off my face. Doc Todd suggested a brand I try out. Let me tell you, it only took one visit for me to get the right contacts without any discomfort. This is why I've been going to Shettle Vision for years. I've even suggested my work colleagues to go to him.
