Growing up, my mothers side of the family pretty much all lived in Pickering. Something I always thought was so random since we lived in Richmond Hill, and they had all moved FROM Mississauga TO Pickering sometime in the early 90s - at that point Pickering (which as of now is a small-medium sized town at best) was a fraction of itself. For me, I was never a fan of venturing out to Pickering as it meant an endless drive for a kid (45-60min) and when you're usually just visiting family there was never anything fun to do. That was except for the summer time. In the summer, if we weren't at Canada's Wonderland, we were at Petticoat Creek. It was a super affordable day trip for my mom as she wrangled 3 kids and tried to keep us entertained. Back when I was going 1-2 times a week in the summer the then seemingly massive manmade lake/pool was a giant circle with a concrete shore line. It was basically a giant bowl from all sides so it started shallow and progressively made it's way to the center which I believe was 6ft at the deepest point. Not huge by my current standards but it might as well have been the ocean to 5-year old Kris U. I have fond memories of packing blankets, umbrellas, towels and a picnic basked early morning and trekking to Picking to get a good spot at Petticoat Creek. We'd be there from just before lunch usually until late in the afternoon, before packing in and promptly passing out in the car on the drive home. #AllTheFeels. I thought PCC had closed down but was thrilled to discover that it had merely undergone a major renovation with the old bowl pool being torn out and several far more friendly water features being created in it's place. There is now a large splash pad, 2-3 wading pools and a larger swimming pool area. Now with my own daughter, I look forward to continuing the Petticoat Creek Tradition with her for many summers to come.

Inadvertently discovered this little beachfront, lake and hiking trail. There's plenty of parking…read moreand lots of picnic tables for ones that just want to head down for a picnic. We came here mainly for a walk and managed to finish a section of a trail which spans about 4km both ways. Trail is decent but not as nice as the one in Rouge Valley. Trail is also a bit narrow and not many pretty sights or well maintained grasses along the way. Beach sand has lots of pebbles so not the greatest for barefoot adventures. You do get to approach a long dock with a lighthouse at the end of the path which gives you a nice open view of boats docked and sailed. Overall not much wow factor here asides from a little walk and some lakefront views. Unless you live in the neighborhood not worth the trip.

For a second... I thought I was somewhere else…read more... The sun was bright and hot... The water looked turquoise from the reflection of the sunlight... I can even feel the "ocean" breeze...and there is this sandy beach.... Beachfront Park is a little piece of paradise for everyone and even their dogs in Pickering. Water, Beach, Boardwalk, Kids Playground and Spray Pool, Beach Volleyball Courts... Sunbathing or Chilling Out in the Shade... Have a picnic or enjoy a drink in the nearby restaurants... The boardwalk also leads up to Ontario Power Generation's (OPG) giant wind turbine.. you can think of as an eye sore or the benefit of alternative power....
