Review is for the seasonal ski operation.
So I'm an intermediate -expert skier, trying to learn snowboarding. I gave this location a try because when you're a beginner it doesnt matter where you go, you just need to learn the basics. How to stop, how to go, how to turn, how to avoid people obstacles.
So today is -12, feels like -18 with the wind chill and snow machine is running. We had a bad melt the past week so today one hill is operating.
I came here because I saw the city of Toronto website say that it cost $12 for the Learning Area pass. So I went up to the window and I said I wanted that. The girl looked at me funny, because I'm not a toddler, I'm an adult. And she was very nice to say theres no lift there. I said oh, where is it. It's my first time snowboard. She started describing to me....and then I saw what was a tobagonning hill with stakes plastic poles. I see...
I moved to book the adult rate that was 19.50$ for one hour. They are nice to give you an extra 15min to get yourself set up.
I think this location is great if your a parent who wants a convenient place to dump the kids, it's pretty safe. I did notice the operators do not ski or snowboard. I also noticed there was no safety guy just standing on the top to rescue any bad falls. I did notice first aid just follows the lesson groups. So if you sign your child for a lesson it should be safe. Sign up your kids to run free, I dunno, check with them if first aid is watching a the top because the guys operating the lift won't see much. The individuals running lessons and first aid along the lessons appear very young; I'm not sure if the individuals running the lessons are certified. They may be young adults who know how to ski or snowboard-not sure.
The lift ticket gave access to a magic carpet. It's okay.
Value wise, I think most ski hills have a 25 to 35$ discovery area with magic carpets. This hill is basically the equivalent. I found even with just one hill, there are ice chunks and was not manicured the best being the only hill.
For people with families they do run an after 4pm $29snow pass for 1 adult and 2 kids (so three people for one price), that's a great value. I wish they had a rate for two adults or two new ski or snowboarder because the demographic for beginners also includes adults.
If you are trying for their learning area for $12 just try a tobagonning hill. I saw parents towing their kids with PVC pipe and rope...
For value of all day fun go to Milton, Oshawa or Barrie. The 25 to 35 rate will cover all day fun so you aren't watching the clock with a combo of magic carpet and T bars.
I also found after wiping out five times no one caught up to me to see if I was okay, no one hollered. At the more popular destination, people are nice to respond-- myself included when I see someone wipe out and I'm on skis I respond give a holler, they respond they're okay and I move on so they don't feel too embarrassed. So I do not think this location staffs enough people to respond to accidents, unless you're at the lessons. I really couldnt believe no one responded to me after I wiped out five times.
I also found this location unfun??? When I go to ski hills, the lift operators actually ski and snowboard, the people are nice, strangers having random conversation, music blasting. Strangers actually helping you learn and when you wipe out people coming to your rescue....its fun. Going to Centennial felt like a solitude adventure :(
I might give this place another try when it's less icy. read more
