Great Escape from Being Cooped up at Home!! During our COVID 19 lockdown and other alerts, we were looking for a place with space and for my kids to run around and have fun. A friend mentioned Milne Dam Conservation Park as a place we can go and have some fun without worrying about crowds. I had been to this park before, and it just slipped my mind about it. I packed up the kids, got some pizza from Little Ceasars, and went there for a picnic. The park is huge and although we were intimidated by all the cars being there, we were surprised to find how spacious the park was. Despite the fact that there were many people there, there was so much room for us to be safe and be physically distanced from other people. We found a few empty picnic tables by the water and had a nice lunch under a tree with lots of shade. It was a warm early fall day and the trees had yet to start turning colour. Once we finished our picnic we spent the rest of our visit exploring the park. There are trails and marked paths all over the park and in the woods as well. We explored all afternoon and had a great time. We needed to burn all those calories after a pizza lunch. The park itself is very clean, well maintained, and for the most part, the restrooms were clean as well. There is a fee to enter the park which only cost us around four dollars. There are a few different parking lots and parking is available and since cars are coming and going, we were able to easily find a parking spot within minutes of arriving. The overall experience was amazing and the kids had a great time. I highly recommend this park.

One of the best Picnic parks in the GTA! I've been here a couple of times, and it's such a good family park but also a walking park. It is a loop around a large pond and has features such as a bridge and dam for viewing. I wouldn't say this is a hiking destination and more of a great stroll, but the best usage of this area is the large amount of tables and vast green space that is PERFECT for picnics or family outings. The view is amazing and there's enough space for a lot of people. The path is also mostly paved which is a bonus. Not sure if we've ever gone during peak times, but we've never had any issues with parking as the lot is quite large. We've also gone when it is free, but there are fees on the weekend I believe. My only -ish is that unfortunately we encountered the gypsy moth caterpillars on the tables that actually climbed up on my partner's shoes which freaked us out. We've also gotten lost before when we've done the loop as the signage is not 100% clear (or maybe we're just not that bright.) Other than that, a great option for your park needs.

The park is only free on the weekdays for parking, and you are charged $4 per person ($2 for seniors) on weekends. This is quite shocking to me. This isn't some amazing conservation area (you're not even charged PER CAR, BUT ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS). Like sure, if you have a parking space limitation I can understand (there isn't, there are plenty of spaces), but seriously charging for seniors and on a per-person basis is just ridiculous. There are so many other parks that are completely free, or paid parking (per car). Also, there are like 10 hard bumps that literally make your car jump to the sky all the way to the parking lot. It was unnecessarily annoying. You'd expect that they do a good job and make the park worth seeing - it just wasn't. The park was extremely plain - lots of spaces with just grass (you can see this on Google map with satellite). There was some brief explanation on the conservation efforts, but there's absolutely no map anywhere. How long is the trail? Where do the trails lead? Where is the dam? You'd think that with the park name including "Dam", it's gotta be somewhere close by or be the main attraction of the park. Nope. The road to the dam is muddy/unpaved and you're apparently not supposed to go through here. For those that wonder where it is, you literally have to walk like 1 hour to get to where Princess Street is. Again, there's no signs that instruct you how to get ANYWHERE. I'm giving 2 stars because it's still a sizeable park with nice river, large picnic area, and plenty of trees to hide from the sun. If you're looking for empty space or going on a weekday, or coming during the fall when the leaves turn red, it might be nice. But the park really isn't that special. It's just like any woods/conservation areas (with the added random parking fee). What a waste of potential really. They should really spend those parking $ on some signage, explain what the dam is and where it comes from, and make sure there are actually things to do in the park.

So many wonderful features here: -free parking in two lots (that would NEVER happen in Vancouver) -a walk around the pond involves a flat trail, one foot bridge, and one stretch of boardwalk through a marshy patch -you never know what wild birds you might see and/or hear here (we saw a heron in the pond, and I heard the call of loons! For real!) -there is a lovely canopy of trees over the walking trail (which was very welcome, on the hot day I visited), and plenty of benches to relax along the way -there are areas of grassy meadow lands on small hills in areas by the walking trail, perfect for a picnic or throwing a frisbee on a nice day -my Toronto friend says sometimes she's seen people fishing in the pond! What a great, little oasis right in the city!
