Jamal is a Dirtbag!!! My dog was recovering from surgery and I wanted him to get pampered but instead he was chopped up And looked crazy! Jamal talked about him and was rude and disgusting! I will never ever return for grooming

I have been taking my dog to PetSmart for grooming for a few months and was satisfied. The regular groomer has left, and the groomer that did my dog did a full consultation with me and then did the exact opposite of what I wanted. I selected the coat length I wanted, which was the second from the longest coat cut, and then she proceeded to almost shave her down. We had a conversation at length about my not wanting her coat too short because of it being cold outside. The only thing I was satisfied with was the tail cut, which was left long as I requested. The cut was uneven and scraggly in places where longer hair was missed. She looked very displeasing for our holiday pictures and I am looking for a new groomer right now. I also do not like the process for paying. I could not use the link they sent for payment on my phone (It never works), and I had to wait in line to get the payment paper from the grooming area, go wait in line at the cash register to pay, and then go back and wait in line in the grooming section again to pick up my dog. I had not even seen how she looked before I paid for the service, which I hated.

Kim (the cashier) told me about the free food program and placed this sticker with the QR code on the bag so I can easily access it!

Thanks Kim (the cashier) for encouraging me to apply for FREE dog food! Great store! Clean and employees are friendly! They offer grooming services also! Check them out!

This review is for the grooming department. This was my first and last time bringing my dog to this location. They have very little to no experience in grooming. I usually take my dog to the Petsmart in Alexandria but they were booked and since I live close to the Waldorf store, I thought to give them a chance. I wish I would have read all the nagative reviews first. I have a golden doodle and they shaved him way too close and uneven. They called me to ask if they could shave him because his hair was matted. I strictly informed them not to shave him because he was definitely not matted. We brushed him the night before. To my surprise when my daughter picked the dog up they had shaved him anyway. No bath, no blow dry. They cut his hair before shampooing and blowing drying him first. Hello a golden doodle has curly hair and it's difficult to get a decent cut without a wash and blowout first. I am very displeased and will never take my dog here again. Please take the nagative reviews serious and stay away. You will regret it!!!

Didn't even get the eye crust from the corner of her eyes. Choppy trim around her face. This pic was taken the day of her grooming.

She did the initial training for a week long, while I had a work trip. I picked her up this morning, and was given so many hugs and kisses, then immediately she showed me what she had learned. Then we went and did the obstacle course, everything was great... but that's not even the best part... I took her on a 4.5 mile hike down by Calvert Cliffs, and being the holiday weekend, it was not packed, but there was a great deal of traffic , both human and canine ... She was EXCELLENT!! Not trying to meet everyone, no rambunctious action, ignored aggressive canines or loud ones, and listened to almost every command given. It was a perfect hike!! I am so looking forward to working more and more with AppleJack and progressing her training even further.. The positive attitude, patience, kindness, understanding and their amity to teach and explain simply blew me away. Without a doubt Applejack is by far the best place for dogs and their humans to be schooled. Training is and understatement of the services they provide. I would recommend them to Pet Owners world wide. Thank you Applejack Duffy and I were so lucky to be referred to you.

He's a five-pound chihuahua who shakes when someone new walks in the room and basically lived on my lap or behind my knees. I'd worried a trainer would either give up on him or scare him worse, but from the very first day Gina put so much thought into making him feel safe. She texted that afternoon to say he'd already jumped into her daughter's arms. When he barely ate the first couple days and I got worried, she talked me through it and told me he'd come around, which he did. She took him on long walks around the park and the neighborhood to burn off his nerves before she ever asked anything of him. His crate became his safe spot at her house, a familiar place that was all his in the middle of a busy home with other dogs and parrots and training going on. And she started him on tiny, predictable rules, sitting before a door, coming when called, so he always had something he understood to hold onto in a new situation. She explained that for an anxious dog, knowing what to expect is half the battle. She also refused to pick him up every time he got scared, and warned me that part would be harder for me than for him. She was right. Somewhere around the second week he started smiling in the photos. He was hanging out with her little dogs and her family, going on field trips to the park and coffee shops, staying on his place while she walked away, heeling next to her. He knows sit, place, heel and here now, and he does them for me too. The turnover at my apartment took a couple hours and it was real work. She sat me down and explained everything before we ever touched the dog, then had me practice with Archie while she corrected what I was doing wrong. She's kept sending reminders and answering my questions since, including a few dumb ones about shampoo and brushes. Here's the part I still can't get over. We went to a party a couple weeks after he got home, which is a huge deal for Archie. He sat on other people's laps. He licked hands. He barely cowered. Six weeks ago he would have spent the whole night shaking under my chair. Everyone at the party noticed and commented on the change in his demeanor. I was a proud mama that day! If your dog is the anxious type, the one who hides, trembles, won't eat around strangers, or has to be carried everywhere, I really want you to hear this. A lot of trainers are set up for big confident dogs and don't know what to do with a scared little one. Gina does. She never rushed him, never forced him, and never made me feel silly for babying him all these years. She reads a nervous dog and meets them where they are, then slowly builds them up until they can handle the world on their own. That's exactly what Archie needed. I honestly feel like Gina is just getting started with him, and I'm already thinking of when I can work with her again. If you have a tiny, anxious dog and you're on the fence, go with Gina. Archie is a different dog and so am I. Thank you again for everything you did for him, and for me. Archie sends smooches. Sheri

Pebbles (blue heeler, 1.5 years old) would never listen to me, would not sit or lay still, and had a lot of other obedience issues that caused her to be stressed or confused. She was a TOUGH dog to train and I was concerned I couldn't find the solution for her to get basic concepts. This view has completely changed since working with RSK9's 3 week program. I would HIGHLY recommend them and their methods - you can tell they genuinely love working with dogs and it's made a huge difference in giving my dog the chance to find real rest at home. They send DAILY updates with photos and videos which was so nice. This isn't a regular class or something you just pay for; it's truly an investment that you and your dog will be using for the time you get to share together. Side note: it's worth doing 3 weeks versus 2 weeks. At the 2 week mark is when Pebbles really started to understand her marks and cues. From here there is so much more that can be refined and Brandi/Perry really capitalize on that threshold being crossed!

She would not go near him or listen to any commands we tried to use. Jay explained to us the approach he would use during training and I told him about the different goals I had for Nalani. I did some research after our evaluation with Jay and decided that he would be the best fit for us and for training Nalani. There are two things that really stood out with Jay compared to the other companies I looked at, the first being that the was no shock collar involved and the second being that all training was done in home with me or my husband. These were important to me because I didn't want to rely on a collar for my dog to listen and I didn't want to send her away to train, I wanted to build that bond with her so we would continue to succeed long after training. That being said we are now two months post training and Nalani does not miss a beat; she listens the first time for all commands and has quickly learned new ones on top of what she already knows! Just to touch on the training aspect there are few things Nalani learned with Jay that I never believed would be possible or even imagined to train her myself. We live in a split level house and before Jay our dog would run and bark at whoever was at the door no matter the person. On our first official training day we were taught how to instruct her to stay at the top of the steps whenever someone rings the door bell and stay there until released. When Jay told us that was our first goal I thought to myself NEVER in a million years will this work! Well, it did! This is just one of the many simple commands that Jay taught us and I never would have thought of myself. It will also be one that will come in handy for a very long time. Another part of her training was to sit whenever told during walks, not to get distracted, and not to pull on the leash. This one took a bit more training but Jay persisted, he kept at it and showed us different techniques to use during our walks to accomplish leash manners. Now I hardly have to even hold the leash and Nalani stays right at my side and never pulls the leash. The last thing I'd like to mention is off leash walking, this was my biggest goal of the entire training, everything else was great but ultimately I wanted to be able to take my dog anywhere and not worry about her running off when not attached to a leash. After Nalani mastered the other training techniques Jay taught us it was time for the off leash training. This actually was learning on my part, I needed to trust my dog and show her confidence to be off leash. It was unbelievable the first time she did it effortlessly. No leash, right at my side, and I had no worry of her running off!! To end this long review and get to the point, Jay is an absolutely amazing trainer! He went above and beyond training Nalani; he met all of my expectations plus more. I have no regrets choosing him as our trainer and plan to use him for any future dog's training. Jay truly cares for the dogs he trains and its obvious the compassion and love he has as a trainer. I would highly suggest him to anyone looking for effective and lasting training.

We spent a lot of time reviewing our goals together and our trainer followed through with the plan that we set together. She stayed in constant contact with transparent updates about the puppy's progress and answered any questions we had. Given the puppy's breed and determination, she required quite a bit of foundational training. Since returning home, she's a pro on the leash (complete transformation). Walks are far more enjoyable - no more barking, pulling, lunging towards moving vehicles, and now has a peaceful relationship with the mail box and trash can. Another high priority was addressing the puppy's reactiveness to our child - puppy is now able to follow my lead during potentially chaotic interactions. Overall our program length was 6 weeks long and completely worth it. We are thrilled to have these foundations instilled by a professional who also cares for the dog. Highly recommend!

We ended up sending both of our boys for a six-week board and train with Kelia. It seemed to only make sense to send both dogs so they would have the same baseline training. Kelia was amazing! She kept us informed just about every day with videos and texts so we could see that the boys were happy and making progress. When Kelia brought the boys home, she spent a few hours with us, showing all the commands and techniques that she taught them, so we had a seamless transition. The "place" command alone has been lifechanging. (Although as you can see in the picture, they sometimes refuse to use separate mats, LOL.) We use the command before we feed them, initially when guests come by, and when we just need them to settle down a bit. It has reduced the stress and chaos in our house tenfold, and we actually can see the boys relax when they know they have a place to go and chill out. Kelia also gave us the tools to make leash walking and general obedience so much more successful. There are a lot of options out there for training. What set Controlled K9 apart for us was (1) our boys lived with Kelia, her family, and her dogs during training - they were not staying in a kennel and were in a real-life, loving environment, and (2) the promise of lifetime, free follow-up support. The boys have been home now for about 3 months. The training has stuck, and we feel like we really have the tools we need to make life pleasant for all of us, including the boys. Kelia has also proactively checked in to make sure things are going well, provided tips on the best way to reinforce training, and has responded quickly when we have follow-up questions, including offering a visit. Over three months later, we are still completely satisfied with the training and support provided by Controlled K9 and Kelia, and we would use them again in a heartbeat.
