I left my cat here for a week and a half, and I CLEARLY told the lady to please take the bandage off of my cats leg & she said she doesn't see anything on his leg but it was on the back legs and she only checked the front legs, long story short my cat almost had to get his leg amputated because the bandage was on him for so long and started to disintegrate in his skin... smh now I have my poor lil sick cat with a cast and spent so much money :/ I wouldn't bring my baby back here and I wouldn't recommend anybody to bring their animals here . The manger is really cool I'll start off by saying that, BUT DO NOT USE THIS VETCO. There is a doctor whose name starts with a H there she's the actual doctor and she is someone who shouldn't be around animals, just 4 weeks ago my dog received all his shots at the Medford vetco ( amazing experience there) needed to get his booster done but Medford was all booked out so we came here not only did she tell us we can't touch our dog ( we have a German Shepard mix there all anxious the first minute introduce some treats and they are fine) we never experienced anyone telling us we can't touch our dog during the routine mind you she is rude and kept repeating it so we stand back and hear and see our dog cry for help as they basically just choke him to hold him down for his ear check and the booster SPOILER no booster we got to the point again saying and explaining how we can hold our dog at the front with some treats because he knows us like we did in our past exam and again in Medford he received 3 shots in one day... she again repeats herself and they try again and our dog cries out so badly she pulls away and says we have to get the muzzle ( THE MANGER told us after when we set up a complaint with him he was just as baffled because one he seen our dog and he was sitting and laying fine as we made this complaint and told us vetco can not muzzle your dog ! She was going to do something more illegal then simply have us hold our baby) we left a formal complaint with the manger and now we have to reschedule DO NOT USE THIS VETCO DUE TO THAT DOCTOR ALONE she is beyond on a high horse and makes you the parent feel as if your dog is bad when she is the one that is scared to interact with animals never use this and go to a doctor who isn't afraid to meet with your dog and work with the owners to find the best way to treat the animal read more

I've always had great experiences at this store. It's clean, well stocked, and the employees are super friendly. Sal the groomer is a super star-- always patient and understanding with our chow chow Kiki. We decided to start grooming her ourselves because Saugus is a bit far for us & Kiki is stressed out around strangers / new environments, but Sal was always patient and forgiving when we did see him. We also did a puppy socializing class with Ana when Kiki was about 6 months old. She already knew the tricks that were taught, but it was great for getting her used to being around other dogs in a controlled environment. Ana even let us come in one day to make up a class we missed after the "graduation date" had already passed. read more

I would leave a zero if I could. i want to start by saying that I wrote a review on Google reviews last night-and it disappeared. Pet Parents Beware of boarding your dog at Petsmart in Saugus, MA It is worthy of filing complaints with the state. This is how I found my dog ....and even after I already tried to clean him up on the spot in the store. I picked up my poor little guy tonight, a night earlier than I had planned, giving them only 10 minutes notice. I was becoming more concerned about Petsmart in recent years regarding quality of care in both the pet hotel and grooming as well. This time when I dropped my dog off, they told me they no longer have someone over night. It's been that way for over a year. They never informed me of that the last time he was there.. So,,from 9 pm till the next morning when they open, no one is caring for them. Still, I don't think this is the only issue contributing to lack of care and neglect of animals by them. My dog was filled with urine and chunks of dried, hard feces stuck all over his body. So much so that I continued to discover more under his fur and attached to his skin when I washed him. The girl had a nerve to brush it off by telling me she found him that way this morning. She said he was sitting in his poop and they tried to clean him. She then said they had tried to bring him to the groomers, but then made some excuse. It waa 9:00 pm when i picked him up. My dog was also filled with urine, even on the top of the base of his tail, high up on his body and no where that his own urine should reach. She then handed me the bill. Worst part is Gpd only knows how long he was really like that. I'm sure from how hard the poop was and how much, it was more than just this morning. I originally scheduled for him to get a bath the final morning I was going to be picking him up, I would've never known how much he was neglected. On top of it, I would've even been charged for the bath, I asked to see a manager and told him I had concerns when I dropped him off and how upsetting this was that my dog sat in feces and urine. He said no boarding places have staff always present. Even if that's true..I am sure not all places neglect dogs like this though. The manager was unapologetic, not anything like you would expect from a manager. I refused to pay. He responded that was fine.,but that I wouldn't be able to have my dog stay at the pet hotel again. The fact that a store manager acted as if was losing something instead of being concerned with the care and without the actual opposite of concern of losing my business was horrifying to me. Are you kidding? Trust me, you could not pay me to let you take care of my dog ever again. In fact, after your response, I don't even ever intend on setting foot into another PetSmart anywhere ever again now. read more

I have only positive things to say about PetSmart in Saugus. I brought my dog, Chloe, there recently to be groomed. She had been there many times before. The groomer noticed that Chloe began to behave strangely and when she picked her up noticed that her snout was cold and that her gums and tongue were white. They immediately took her to Saugus Animal Hospital. When she arrived there, Chloe's blood pressure was extremely low. She was very sick and we had to rush her to Mass. Veterinary Referral Hospital in Woburn. There we learned that Chloe had an aggressive form of cancer and was bleeding internally and had fluid around her heart. We were blindsided by this. Chloe had shown no signs of anything being wrong. She appeared to be a happy and healthy 7 year old dog. We said our goodbyes and she was euthanized. I want to give special thanks to Dr. Bloom at Saugus Animal Hospital. She did everything she could for Chloe. Also, my heartfelt gratitude to Jennifer, the groomer at PetSmart and to Anthony, the store manager. They went above and beyond. They stayed at Saugus Animal Hospital until we left. They were both visibly upset. Anthony followed up with me the next day. PetSmart paid for Chloe's cremation and urn. They certainly didn't have to. They had done nothing wrong. But, it was a very kind gesture. Thank you again to all involved. RIP Chloe...the sweetest dog. read more

DON'T BUY FISH HERE - My husband and I have many aquariums and love to go to PetSmart and find new animals to add to our tanks! Lately however, there has been a lack of care about the fish and how they are handled. We bought three yoyo loaches, and the woman dropped one of them on the GROUND. Poor baby. We are so worried about if it will even survive a day. Then she put them in a bag with no water (pictured), and it had a hole. She then just put in another bag (which is now filling with water while draining water from the fish). It's cruel to the fish, and we feel sad bringing them home with no water, which seems to be a regular problem lately with every store we go to. FILL UP THE BAG. It's hard to want to support these stores when the people who are supposed to be caring for these animals don't even give them basic needs or comfort. It's not hard to fill up a bag with water. It's like giving your dog a few pieces of kibble and not filling up the bowl. It's just laziness and lack of care, or knowledge. Do better. This is not okay. I asked if I could grab the dog food and wait, was told "we are not open", I asked if it was OK if I waited until 9, "yeah" then under her breathe "we are not open" I asked "are you sure?" I just wanted to leave a review (as it seems this day and age people are quickly to point out the negatives). Customer service in MOST industries are sadly going down the tank but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised of the staff at the Saugus Petsmart. I generally don't like "big box" stores specifically bc usually customer service stinks. But ANTHONY (both) and David along with a few of the female staff members Rebecca? were very pleasant and super knowledgeable. This was my kids & I 1st time in a "petstore" as we went to purchase our 1st fish pets. We got a tank and all the fixings. Acclimated our fish. However, sadly the new tank had a leak/hole and one fish didn't last 48hours. We swapped out with no problem but then after 24hours the filter was making a horrible sound (if this isn't a sign not sure what is) lol The store manger Anthony was super helpful and took initiative to get us a new filter which is currently on order. The follow through and kindness that we received at this location I think should be acknowledged (bc it's hard to keep employees these days) and I feel very satisfied with the service we received thus far. Note: I never give 5 stars unless it's "Disney World worthy" and if our purchases worked initially probably would of done 5 (granted not their fault) but 5=almost perfection, 4 right up there! read more

First time & Last.....I took my 2 standard poodles to be groomed here because my groomers was booked out for 3 weeks and I wanted the boys to be cleaned up before Thanksgiving. What a mistake! I can't even begin to tell you how disgusted I was when I seen my poor boys. When dropping off they ask you what you want...I told her exactly what I wanted she even wrote it down. I said clean face & feet, leave poof on tail and small poof on head. Seriously it was nothing fancy at all. I could have done a better job then what this lady did to my boys. I was disgusted when I seen them. Hair sticking out all over the place, some areas looking like the razor didn't even touch it. Totally cut his tail down to skin, nothing left, no poof on head, hair all over feet like they didn't even shave them! Like WTF.... She said his tail was matted, she had to... Well don't you think I should have received a phone call asking me before you did something I specifically ask you to leave? I mean if you take your child for a hair cut and she has tangles are you going to shave her hair off her head or do what you can to fix the problem? This lady ruined both my dogs hair, to some this may not be a big deal but for a poodle owner this is HUGE. This cut would have been the holiday cut for xmas pics etc. My dogs look so bad, Im embarrassed. The manager did refund me my money but that is NOT the point here. I would have preferred to pay full price and walk away with normal looking poodles. This Christine person should NOT take on dogs she can't handle. We've been taking my dog here for grooming and hotel for 8 yrs. Never had a problem until the last time at grooming. We were told that she wasn't a good "fit" for their grinning area. She always got a great report prior to this. But yes she was still allowed to board there. We left for vacation and sent her there for a week. We get a VM saying she hasn't pooped and they're bringing her to their vet. When we call back no answer. Keep calling and finally press the number for an emergency. Girl picks up to say vet says dog is fine. The vet did a rectal exam and everything is ok. Next day we call to check on her she still hasn't moved her bowels, but am now being told she bit an employee. The managers have decided that she isn't welcome back and can we or someone come get her. We are in the Caribbean and no one is available to get her so they say she can stay it's ok. Call back next day she moved her bowels and is doing much better. Today we picked her up. The girl tells us her front is a mess from throwing up and they were afraid to agitate her again so they can't clean her. We get outside and notice her whole backside is covered in caked on poop. Her legs undercarriage everywhere. Cleaned as best we could with wipes and when I got home to trim it all out of her backside, I notice she has bloody sores. Just beware, I think they did us a favor by not welcoming her back. read more

I signed up for a puppy training class and it was a terrible experience. The trainer Ana didn't even bother to introduce herself. She had no personality whatsoever. I don't even think she likes dogs. I could have set that aside but her knowledge of dog trading was minimal at best. At one point she told someone to lock the dog in a room until they "calm down". She offered no assistance to people who were clearly struggling with her instructions. She just kinda sat there. I've done a puppy training class before with my other puppy and I can say with certainty that this girl has no idea about dogs. She seemed to be putting in the least amount of effort possible. She clearly didn't want to be there. We didn't even spend the full hour. She ended the class after just 40 minutes. I decided to ask for a refund. It was a huge hassle. I had to call corporate and I finally got refunded after a week. I was going to just let it go and not bother to post anything but I just noticed that they pro-rated the refund and charged me for the class! I didn't get anything at all from this class. It was a total joke. I always considered PetSmart to be the best of the worst pet stores around. Now they are just the worst. I'm done shopping there. There are great local pet shops that don't treat their customers like this. read more

She exchanged it at this PetSmart, and they were super nice about it. However, the one she got here did not fit either! She came back again and got a different one altogether along with some sweaters that were marked down. Again, they were nice about her doing another exchange. I liked the jacket because I am still learning snow (I am a rescue from the south. I boarded my Shiba at the Saugus location for a week. My Shiba takes anti-anxiety medication. I told them before I left not to force him to take his medication. The second day of having him there, I called to check on him. I was told that someone attempted to force/pill him and he almost bite them. I strongly reiterated not to force him to take his medication and that I would rather him not take his meds then someone get bit. Moving forward, the day before picking him up, I get a call from the manager saying they didn't feel he was a good fit because he was not taking his medication. She then stated that if he was taking heart medication they would not be able to give it to him and that would not be good for him. I responded by saying good thing he is not on any heart medication and it's just anxiety medication. I got irritated with what she was saying because she kept on mentioning heart medication so I yupped her until we hung up. When I got there to pick my Shiba up, I spoke with one of the girls (Jess) who was very nice which is why I gave them one star. Jess said she liked our boy and was able to give him his medication with patience. Two days later, I got a call from Megan regarding my dog not taking his medication. She told me that he was not allowed back there because he was not taking his medication. SHE TOLD ME THAT ANY DOG THAT DOES NOT TAKE MEDICATION CAN NOT BOARD WITH THEM. I put this in capital letters because I would like to save any and all dog owners time if their dog takes medication even down to a joint medication. I told her during my conversation with her that I did not mind that he didn't take it and that his vet would also be alright with it as he is a Shiba and was exhibiting Shiba behaviors. Megan, continued to insist that he was good otherwise. I then asked if the only dogs they take are sweet, gentle, non-behavioral dogs that do everything they want them to do? Of course, I really got no response. She also told me that it was a corporate policy that they could not have dogs that don't take their medication so at that time I asked for corporate number. I did file a complaint and I am waiting on a call from corporate. I do know someone who was a manager for PetSmart and they said it didn't sound right as to why my dog could not go back to board at this PerSmart. I then called another location and they said it would be no problem if he didn't take his medication as long as it was specified that he may not take it. I called the Saugus location and spoke with Anthony, the manager, who was really annoyed and nasty speaking to me. Ultimately, he told me they can refuse any dog they want. At the end of my conversation I felt all rights to call him a f****** asshole. My Shiba and all Shibas and all stubborn breeds have the possibility of refusing medication or not eating during boarding. I must say, after me calling the second day, I did not hear from anyone till the day before I picked him up. Clearly, this location can not handle stubborn breeds of dogs. read more

My husband and I are going on vacation, and have been thinking of boarding our dog for a few days. Tonight, when we went into the store. we asked the young woman at the desk if we could please see the room where the dogs were sleeping ,and she simply and very rudely said, "No." She told us if we were interested in boarding our dog there we would have to wait until September 23rd if we wanted to see the rooms where our dog would be staying. We did not want to leave our dog there if we could not at least look in the window to check out the sleeping area. When we got home, we called and spoke to the manager. She told us that that was not the case. We could have looked through the glass and and taken a peek at the dogs. I hope that this young woman is reprimanded because of her, they lost one potential customer. read more

I've battled with my thoughts as to if I should write this or not, and unfortunately I shall. My dog was groomed at this PetSmart recently and I couldn't have been more disappointment. The groomer seemed very friendly and nice, however her handling of my dog was very rough. My dog is used to being handled gently, so when I saw the groomer handling her -my every instinct told me to cancel this appointment and retrieve my dog. However, I had driven about 2 city lines, my dog needed to be shaved and I questioned if I was over reacting. I was not. My dog had a seresto collar on and the groomer tried to remove it. However she was trying to do so by pulling the collar apart perhaps not realizing that the part underneath her neck was squeezing her neck. I noticed, and stuck to fingers in between the collar and her neck to prevent it from chocking her. Finally, I told the groomer Id do it myself to avoid her pulling apart the collar. When I couldn't take it off, I asked for a pair of scissors to cut off. She also roughly kept pulling at her facial hair. My complaints: The dog appears to have been shaven a little too much then what I asked for and the part I did not want touched was cut. (I had specifically asked that the top of her head not be touched because I wanted to grow out her hair). My dogs paws seemed to have been nicked a few times in various places -its all pink. Ever since she got back from the groomers she has been acting weird. A bit distant, not fully enjoying her walks, resting a lot. I feel so guilty for having followed thru even after I saw the red flags. I can still recall my dogs eyes looking at me so intently when I had to walk away a second time to correct her facial shave. Needless to she will never step foot at that place again! I will do my very best to avoid going there at all cost! I am extremely disappointed and heartbroken. read more

I've visited a few PetSmart's for various reasons. This one is by far my favorite. The staff is very friendly and attentive to you and your pet's needs. I also highly recommend their grooming staff, specifically, Donna. I took my elderly cat there for a nail trim and she was immeasurably kind and attentive to my cat's personality and needs. I can confidently say that I have found the perfect groomer and will continue to go back regularly. When I say she is as good as they get, I mean it! As for the store overall, I was greeted as soon as I walked through the door and upon the staff member seeing that I was holding a carrier, she immediately asked me if I was boarding or grooming. Her perception was appreciated.The store is well-kept as well. This is sign of a staff that takes care and pride in what they do. I was highly impressed with the experience. read more

This PetSmart is the worst one I have ever been too! I went for my dogs grooming appointment and there is a lady infront of me with a larger dog and the dog was very well behaved and calmed and as she left her dog and walked out everyone in the grooming room started to talk down on the lady and her dog and were disgusted on her dog since it was a large dog. It's so ridiculous and disgusting the manner these grown women acted bashing a women and her dog. I felt bad for the dog as the owner just wanted to get her dog groomed and gets bashed by the employees. When it was my turn to talk to the employee the older women was rude and looked like she didn't enjoy her job or even liked dogs. This just made me wondered was goes on behind closed doors! This review has to do with the GROOMING at the Saugus Petsmart. The staff was super nice and accommodating for the check-in during Covid-19. But their skills at pet grooming were very subpar, and completely unacceptable for a $81 charge. Our 7 month puppy needed a quick cut before she gets spayed and our original groomer was booked up. Please save yourself the aggrevation and money and get your dog a proper haircut. The hair wasn't cut evenly on the body in multiple areas and they didn't even wash/blowdry the dog, it was an obvious rush job. We will not be returning, please support your local small business pet groomers. read more

If I could put 0 I would.. Our German Shepard has high anxiety and paces when nervous. Because of this, we get a call our first day on vacation saying they had to take her to the vet because her paw pads are bleeding. I instantly question how they're running things because as much as our dog paces and the LONG Walks she goes on, how is it that her paw pads are bleeding A couple of days pass and we get another call saying that they had to take her back to the vet because her paw pads reopen and they were actively bleeding.. the previous time they called her paw pads were not actively bleeding. We start asking the same questions you're already thinking "what material are the floors to made of? " they couldn't answer. They then recommend that we pick her up, luckily we had a friend able to do so, and when the friend picks our dog up, her paws looked fine! Our friend told us that an employer told her she needs to request a refund. Once we got back home, I call to see if any refund would suffice to which they denied because it was self inflicted with her anxiety. Cheap prices to make up for the heft bill you will be paying when you pick up. HIGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND to trust them with your dogs while you're away. There is so much going on here from salon and grooming to day camp and pet hotel, and then there is the well stocked pet store too! We have also used the doggy day camp here and it is so refreshing to have a completely visible room with a worker always present with the dogs- not hidden in the back like most places! They pretty much refused to groom my dog the way I wanted. I brought my schnauzer there several times and I ask for a non-schnauzer look, just a regular dog look and no silly moustache or anything. I show them a photo of what I want and most of the time they get close but not quite there. I've been patient because they don't seem to deal with 'out of the box' very well. The last time I was there I spoke to someone (not the person who cuts his hair), and they looked up his record and it had a note: 'schnauzer face' in his record. I thought 'oh that explains it' and asked to his that comment removed. Well this is where it got interesting. The woman told me not to worry, it didn't mean anything and wouldn't change his haircut. We brought our dog here to board overnight and we were turned away because we had wrapped the base of his tail due to a hot spot he had. Completely understandable in the event it were to get worse. The reason for the one-star review was how the staff handled the fact we told them that our dog would do better in a play group that had less active dogs. (Bit of back story - He's been going to the Framingham Petsmart for over a year and they have had no issues with him provided we had also warned them that he does get anxious around other dogs. They've been putting him in daycamp groups which were made up mostly of smaller and less social dogs. We've never gotten a complaint from them despite his demeanor. We also check in periodically to make sure he's not harming the staff or other dogs. We've actually been told that he's a pretty easy dog to handle.) Based on providing them this bit of information, the reaction and facial expressions from the staff at the front desk was off putting. They seemed to take this piece of information worse than knowing we had wrapped his tail. Shame on them for thinking that all dogs are your typical Disney dog. The fact that they seemed unwilling to accept him for his demeanor really pissed us off because we were going out of town that day. Unless your dog is Pluto, don't bring your pet here. You're better off leaving them in the care of people who actually understand your dog and tailors their attitude towards making your dog feel welcomed and comfortable. read more

Overall, just like every other Petsmart; which is a good thing! I enjoy bringing Mylo (my 5 month old Puggle) here for several reasons. First, anybody who's anybody knows that Petsmart is 1 million times better than PetCo. They are cleaner and more professional (not to mention, most of the time cheaper) than their competitor. The staff is friendly and always helpful trying to find anything you need. For example, they recently had a sale on Kong Genius toys. They only had the small and large sizes on the shelf, so I asked a sales associate to help me find a medium sized one. He checked in back, but unfortunately they didn't have any in stock. He then proceeded to call all of the other local Petsmarts to see if anyone else had one for me. Second, they have dog training courses with certified trainers. They use on a positive reinforcement training style (which those of us with a psychology background know works much easier and faster than any negative reinforcement). We just completed our Puppy course, and Brett was so great that we decided to sign up for the intermediate course immediately after graduation! They also have grooming and a Pet Hotel on site. I've used the grooming service, which is great and right on par for their pricing. In fact, the first time you bring in your puppy, a nail trim and ear cleaning is FREE! (My motto... if it's free, it's for me!!). This morning I just dropped off my pup for the day camp for the first time. I've been to other dog day care places (mostly because Petsmart wont board puppies that are not neutered), and I always felt they didn't know what they were doing. Now that Mylo is neutered, I decided to take him here because the facilities are cleaner and it's actually cheaper than most places (only $18 a day). Overall, a 4 out of 5. Would have been a 5 out of 5, but you can only used a lot of the on site facilities is your dog is neutered. read more

This review is long overdue! I've been coming to this PetSmart to have my Pekingese dogs groomed by Donna and the grooming staff for about a year now and have never had a back experience. I've lived in the MA area for about 3 years now and I struggled the first 2 years to find a consistent, wallet friendly and customer service oriented groomer nearby. I came to PetSmart on a whim and found Donna! Donna is absolutely amazing. My dogs lover her and she's consistent and always friendly. I've also had my dogs groomed by the other staff and everyone is always super friendly. I've been to 3 groomers in the Medford/Melrose/Saugus area and this is by far the best experience I've (and the dogs!) have had. I'm grateful to have some peace of mind knowing I'm taking my babies to someone I can trust and know they will look great once they are done. read more

Sooo, I walk into PetSmart in Saugus with my boyfriend. I needed to use the bathroom when we got there, so I made a bee-line toward the back of the store, and found it. When I come back out, I don't see Eddie anywhere. I know he doesn't have his cell phone on him, so I proceed to walk along the outer row and look for him, down each aisle. I then go to the opposite end of the store, and do the same, only this time I see a staff employee basically shadowing me the whole length of the store toward the back. I finally find my partner in the back of the store, looking at cat food, waiting for me. (I should have known he'd be standing there. He always checks out the catfood. Silly me. ) Anyway, said employee, a gentlemen who looked to be about late thirties, early forties, asks if he can help us with anything. We say no, we're all set. He then states (and I'm paraphrasing here): Well, you look like you're getting in your exercise going all around the place. But, he says it in a way, with just the right amount of snark, to imply that we are a couple of shoplifters. It was very obvious what he was trying to convey. Thing is, I didn't catch on, until he walked away. Then I was really, really PISSED off. However, my partner said to ignore the whole thing. We proceeded to check out some large half-moon fish tanks, which was the reason we came in, to begin with. Needless to say, even though, a few minutes later, a very friendly employee named Ronnie helped us to see what was available in fish tanks, at that point I'd made a note to myself that there was no way in frigging hell that we'd be giving them our business on a higher ticket item. We merely bought our cat food and a cat brush, and left. I did mention to the cashier that the employees in the store were awfully eager. (We'd been asked by several if they could help us.) He said the corporate people were there and that everyone was on their toes, basically. Oh, well. I should have asked to speak to the manager or even better, someone from corporate, but it wasn't worth it. Better to relay the tale here, and update my previous review to give ONE STAR. We won't go back for anything other than catfood, from now on. Oh, and we bought the tank from a different PetSmart. And the fish we bought from Petco. The people in the Everett PetSmart were much less intimidating and not rude. And at Petco, there is a much better selection of fish, IMHO. read more
