Secondly, my dog has never looked so good. Ive been taking him to petco for years and will never be going back there. My dog Merlin looks the best hes ever looked since ive had him and hes 7!!! What do you do before you board your pups somewhere new? Read your Yelp reviews, of course! With the onset of New Year's and the severe possibility of a late night wine mixer looming, i found myself locked in turmoil once again. What to do with my dear Percival. I have two dogs, both Lab mixes, and while my Ted tends to pass out at home when we're around, Perce tends to get rather... involved with anything that can be chewed. And i mean anything. So of course i started shopping around, and being new to the NorthShore area, i poked my nose in quite a few places (as us old fogeys are keen to, to spite our faces). So i stopped by the Paws with Inn a few days after Christmas to make a visit. First thing that happened was actually before i even got in the door, tried to bring Percival into the store with me, but they have what looks like an iron statue of a rottweiler (of all the dogs) on the porch and he wouldn't stop growling at it, didn't seem to want to get out of the car, or anywhere close to it. I didn't feel like dragging him around on MY knees, so i just let him sit in the car and growl at it. No idea who's dumb idea that statue was, might as well have put a mirror up against the wall. It was still pretty funny, though, so i entered the store with a pretty good smile going. The kid at the counter kinda looked like a band member of Z.Z Topp, but was definitely more than happy to greet me, in fact, he seemed quite nice. Conversational skills were very good, he was quick to tell me about the business and the rates, the requirements for boarding your dog and so forth. Couldn't help noticing that there was somewhat around four or five cameras around the store, which was surprising, the storefront was only around the size of an average bedroom, can't think of any other place that i have seen in this town that has cameras at all, much less one for every angle of the room. From this i gathered the place must have had some issues in the past. So i asked if the cameras were online, (figured if they had cameras they probably let people watch their dogs), and as it turns out they don't. I'm not a big fan of leaving my dog anywhere i can't see them, (Most of the places i have boarded they have had webcams). So i asked about seeing their facility, where the dogs are kept, and he directed me to a window behind the register. The place seemed alright, most of the view was blocked by some sort of ramshackle hut, but i could see some dogs wandering around in the back. Or rather, i could see a LOT of dogs wandering around in the back. I asked about keeping the dogs warm, and he told me the shed was heated, and they could go in and out as they liked. Asked about where the dogs slept, and he told me a they had a boarding room. Asked to see the boarding room, again, not open to a viewing. No photos of it, or the backyard, either. As a man who studies wildlife and animals rather severely, i know that dogs are territorial, and form pack hierarchies, which made the amount of dogs kind of intimidating for me, not knowing how much space they were inhabiting. Honestly, it seemed like way too many dogs for such a small shed, especially with in climate weather, and without the ability to watch my dog or even get a good look at the premises, i started losing confidence pretty quick. This probably sounds silly, too, but the cameras worried me a bit. I grew up southern, and one thing you learn where i'm from is you gotta have trust. Having one camera on the register can be normal for a city store in case or robbery or foul play, but i don't see this many cameras outside of the lobby of my bank. Seemed to me like this place gives just a bit less than it should and expects just a bit too much. The staff seemed nice enough, or at least the one staff i saw did, but if you want to have an open and trusting relationship, you shouldn't hide how your business operates. Paws With Inn is wonderful. I'm no dog whisperer, but I can tell that our dog thinks that spending the day at Paws With Inn is the best thing that she could ever do. She's either learned the word "daycare" or she can gather from my body language that she will get to go there in the morning, because on doggy daycare days, she's so excited in the house she can hardly contain herself. When she arrives, the tail literally wags the dog. She doesn't even think twice about saying goodbye to me (sniffle sniffle). The staff and owners clearly love dogs and are happy to discuss yours with you at length when you pick up or drop off. Speaking of which, they will even pick up and deliver your dog at your door...for FREE. Fantastic. I would strongly recommend considering Paws With Inn for regular/occasional daycare or boarding. So I'm one of those posting-dog-photos-on-facebook-every-day types of people. I can't stay mad at him ever. His cute snuggles and hysterical attempts to bark brighten up my day. Our pup Winston is a mini-schnauzer and most likely the love of my life (besides the husband.. shh). I never thought I'd be one of these people who talks about their dog like a child, but whatever. :) I am not a fan of kenneling or having my dog crated even if it's just for a few hours until I pick him up from the groomers. This place actually has a few couches in the "bedroom" of the daycare where pups can crash out if they're not into kennels/crates. They have a large outdoor area where the dogs just go nuts together. The few times we've dropped him off, he is like shaking with excitement because he knows playtime is just a few seconds away. The groomer who comes in is awesome and always does a great job. And compared to some of the other places in the area, the prices are great. All in all, I love this place and feel so comfortable leaving my little furball here for a long weekend. And I'm pretty sure he loves me more for it. :) read more

I really wanted my dog to be in our wedding since he's our baby. I wasn't sure how it would be possible for him to walk down the aisle since someone has to take him after the ceremony. Luckily, my wonderful day coordinator recommended Paws With Inn! Amy Lindqvist from Paws With Inn made this effortless. On the day of the wedding, I did not have to worry about the pickup and drop off my puppy. Paws With Inn closes at a certain time and our wedding ended at 11, but Amy kindly took him home with her and dropped him off at the venue at 10 for my mother to take him. Fantastic A+ experience!! They had us bring the dogs to stay with them for a few hours prior to their first boarding to acclimate them with the experience and see if they were a good fit. There was no charge for this & we thought that was an excellent entry for everyone. Every time we'd call we'd get a quick & professional response/call back. We brought our dogs home after a week boarding with Paws With Inn and they were clean & happy. Not stressed out at all. Totally exhausted but in a good way. I have had dogs all of my life and have experienced a number of different types of boarding - this was by far the best experience I have had in 25 years. These folks are professional but accommodating. They take the time to get to know you and your pets - there is someone on site with them 24 hours a day and everyone that we experienced were real animal people/lovers. I couldn't make a higher recommendation and would definitely trust them again to watch over our 4 legged babies when we travel in the future. read more

I cannot say enough about Paws With Inn. They are about as good as it gets. When I first adopted my dog, an abused rescue in dire need of socialization, someone suggested Paws With Inn to me as a good place to leave my dog during the day while I was at work (I work an average of 6-7 days a week, and my puppy was not getting enough attention). I called and they set me up with a little "interview" the next day. I filled out some paperwork and then they took my dog outside to see how she interacted with the other dogs. She was fine, so I left her there all day. When I picked her up she was happy, and best of all, exhausted. She passed out the moment we got home. Ever since then I have brought her there at least two full days a week for daycare, and she loves it. The staff here is truly amazing. They all love dogs and really watch out for them to be sure that they're having fun and not getting into any trouble. Everyone knew my dog's name within a week, and she is always so excited to see them. I also take my dog there to board every few weeks. They have someone who stays with the dogs overnight, so I never have to worry. They are also very good about special diets and medications your dog may require. They also have a groomer who is there a few days a week and does a great job, and they have a good selection of dog and cat food, treats, toys, etc. I would recommend Paws With Inn to anyone who has an active dog but doesn't have the time to play with them every day. These guys will not disappoint. read more

We boarded our dog for 8 days and he went in a complete juvenile delinquent and came out much better behaved. They provide great care and behaviour correction. They even sleep with the dogs! These folks love dogs. Period. My wife and I had to drop off our beloved canine for a few hours while we were in Ipswich for a wedding. Our dog was nervous at first but was wagging away after a few minutes. We have used this service several times and never been disappointed. Note: the facility isn't much to look at, but at the end of the day, our dog was treated very well there and that's what matters to us. read more

I HIGHLY recommend Paws with Inn. Our dog is our child and I think the staff there adore her almost as much as we do :) We have a female American Staffordshire Terrier, and were hesitant about how she would be treated and cared for (obviously this breed gets a bad rap--unfairly) and we wanted to be 110% sure this place could handle her. To our delight, the owners have extensive knowledge in this breed and many many others. They truly understand dog psychology and how to introduce a new dog into the pack. A bonus is that they do pick up and drop off (for local clients). This helps us tremendously. We fully trust them with our pup. And she LOVES it there. The second we pull into the parking lot and she sees where she is, she is ecstatic! A sure sign that we found the perfect care takers for her. I wouldn't bring her anywhere else! read more

The Owners and staff are amazing! My 6-month pup loves to go here. He literally starts jumping and making happy and excited noises as soon as we pull in the driveway. Harpoon is so excited to go in I can barely get his lease on him to get him to the door. Once inside the main store area his tail is going one hundred miles and hour and he races for the door to let him outside with the other pups. They have separate sections for different dogs. He goes into the puppy area and comes home well exercised and tired. He is so much easier to handle and train when most of his "puppy energy" has been used up all day. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. You can also pay to have your dog's nails trimmed or your dog groomed while they are there. If you forgot to pick up food or treats, don't worry they sell it right in their store. Truly is the best place to send your fur-baby!!! read more

I truly cannot say enough good things about Paws With Inn. Patrick and Amy, the owners, love dogs (and all animals) with all of their hearts, and it shows. Their love of animals is the core of their business. You would be hard pressed to find two nicer people. They walk the talk. They eat, bresthe and sleep dogs! They foster dogs, and have even driven to NY to save a dog from being put down. But I digress. They are extremely knowledgeable about dog care and behavior and have been an invaluable resource to me as I am raising my first dog. Patrick always makes time to talk to me and answer any of my questions. Amy is extremely caring and is equally generous with her time. All of the staff at Paws are extremely friendly and helpful. But beyond that, when your dog goes to Paws, you become a part of their family, and vice versa. (Particularly in my case, because Patrick and Amy were fostering my dog when he was a puppy, which is how I came to have him in the first place!) They know each dog that goes there by name, know each of their personalities, and love each one of them. Because of this, I feel very confident that my dog is well cared for here. Due to my work schedule, I leave for work before Paws even opens, or come home after it closes. No problem! There is a pick up/drop off service for monthly passholders. JJ or Ian come and pick Ollie up and take him to Paws for me, or bring him home. This service has been invaluable to me. Every dog is evaluated before being allowed to join the daycare group. Patrick and the staff are great at assessing each dog's individual personality and needs, and the dogs are separated into groups (more active, less active, smaller dogs, etc). My dog is extremely active, and is grouped accordingly. The dogs are constantly monitored and kept in check. I have not had any issues. Speaking of which, the dogs are moved inside or outside as necessary to keep them comfortable in the summer and winter. Again, we have had no issues. I have also boarded and had my dog groomed at Paws, and these have been positive experiences as well. Patrick and Amy very recently acquired the building that Paws is located in, and have begun renovations. It looks ( and smells ;) ) great! There is a brand new floor and fresh paint, and plans for more renovations in the dog areas. The bottom line is: my dog loves going to Paws, and I would not send him anywhere else! read more

I was uncomfortable with the fact that you can't see where the dogs are kept (due to insurance reasons, I was told) but based on recommendations from a friend who used to board there, I went ahead. The only view you can get of the out door facility is from peeking through the window behind the check in-desk. When watching how our dog was introduced to her "group", we witnessed the staff person opening the gate and THROWING our sweet,very social 1 1/2 year old dog on top of the pack that was crowding the gate. Since we were leaving immediately on vacation, we had to leave our dog but we worried about her the whole time we were away. When we picked her up she was more "shell shocked" than from any other place we have boarded her in the past. We will not be using Paws with Inn again. read more

A few days before Thanksgiving I had a freak-out when I realized that my beagle-basset was going to be a big problem. She has some food aggression. That coupled with the other dogs that would be there, and the toddlers running around with food, I was afraid that we would end up with a dog fight. The problem is...she can't be left alone or she will destroy the house. So, I called Paws Withinn and they were able to squeeze her in for boarding on Thanksgiving. They take great care of my dog and their being able to take her made our holiday very enjoyable and very un-stressful! read more

This place is awful! The animals are too crowded and the staff are not properly trained to handle some of these dogs especially dogs with bad behaviors, these dogs get loose from their kennels and start fights with the other dogs and leave horrible bite wounds on the employees that have to throw themselves in between fighting dogs to break them up. Then the employees are not even given the option to go to the hospital for treatment after a bite wound and the facility did not have a first aid kit to help cover and treat the wounds. I would not bring my dog here again! read more

Paws is AWESOME! My dog had been going here for years. He LOVES it there and they love him. The owners and staff are amazing and they really take such great care of the dogs here. My dog gets picked up in their shuttle van and he patiently waits at the window on his pick up days. When the van arrive, he literally FLYS down our front steps, as he can't get into the van fast enough. I have boarded my dog here MANY times during vacations and I think he probably doesn't even notice that he's not home. As an added bonus, Paws offers on site grooming, so I can call and schedule an appointment for my dog and he gets dropped off at home looking wonderful and smelling awesome. If you are looking for great care, a wonderful facility, caring people and a good time for your pup, don't even hesitate to call Paws. read more

We boarded our English Setter for a week at Paws With Inn back in 2003 and she returned with kennel cough. We avoided the place but had heard very good reviews from a friend recently so decided to try boarding our young hound. She feels more comfortable around lots of dogs so we figured a place without cages would be best. The first time we left her overnight (one night) she came down with terrible diarrhea within a week which turned out to be hookworm. We should have known better but ended up boarding her for three more nights a month later. When we came to pick her up she was filthy with dirt all over her but worst of all the hookworm was back and worse this time. Paws With Inn has over 100 dogs come through each day and there is no way that they can prevent parasites and fleas from coming through as well. Also of concern is the fact that they will not let you see the facilities anymore so you have no idea how your dog is treated. You're a lot better off boarding at a place that cages overnight (we recommend Camp Bridlewood in Rowley) even though the dogs appear to be really happy to go to Paws. read more
