I have been patronizing Petsmart in Manchester for the last 10 years, both as a pet owner, and in my previous job as primary animal care person at a nature center with a large collection of exotic animals. I have always found the staff to be friendly, courteous, and helpful; it feels like I am dealing with friends. They have helped me with special equipment and food orders, and with information about some aspects of caring for unusual animals. On the rare occasions that I bought an item that proved to be broken or damaged, they exchanged it with a smile. I hope the corporate office treats these workers well. I will continue to do my pet shopping there! read more

They used to have the best grooming service, and I've been bringing my dogs here consistently for the past four years. Unfortunately, the quality of service has gone downhill recently. Appointments are canceled far too often, especially for bath and groom services. It almost feels like the only way to avoid cancellations is to book a full haircut. For the past four years, I've followed the same schedule: six full haircuts a year, and a bath and trim every month in between. This system worked perfectly until recently, but now it's become increasingly difficult to keep the regular bath appointments due to repeated cancellations. It's disappointing because they used to be reliable, and I hope they can improve their scheduling and provide the same level of service they were known for. read more

This Petsmart meets all you needs. It's large enough that it services all kinds of common pet needs ranging from dogs, cats, reptiles, fish and small rodents. They are plenty of vet options around, but if your looking for a vet, I wouldn't say the Banfield vet inside the store is a bad option, and is convenient if you are already there getting other pet needs. They have a cat adoption center and on some weekend days they bring in dogs from a local shelter. As much as I like a family owners small business pet store similar to a pet supplies plus, a Petsmart has a much better selection and variety. More so than a Petco. Their selection of fish in my experience is ok, if that's was you are looking for, a store like aquatic wildlife is better. I've had good experience at Petsmart finding help if I had a question. The line at checkout can be hit or miss. Usually they try to call a manager or another representative if the line is getting too long. The store opened in 2002 and the appearance inside still looks good, but there are signs of aging. read more

Samantha was extremely patient and kind with our dog whose coat was not in great condition. He is a rough collie and as such, has a complex coat. He had not been to grooming in some time because we just relocated to the area. Samantha groomed him beautifully and really took her time to make sure he had no mats left over. She was so kind at pickup and explained everything to us very patiently and in detail. His coat was silky smooth at pickup and he smells so good! We will be back regularly for grooming. read more

Worst Pet store I've ever been too.. I bought a chameleon and he was healthy and everything but after a day or 2 I realized how much work it was having him.. I did the right thing which was returning him back to the store so he can get the proper care from another owner or whoever planned to buy him next As soon as I came in, there was little to nobody even working in the store, I went up and said I wanted to return a chameleon immediately the manager cut me off mid sentence to ask if the lizard was deceased.. I said no he is perfectly fine a little stressed from the ride over here. but he is fine the way I bought him I explained to her I wanted a different lizard, one that I've had experience with such as the leopard gecko which is a much easier Animal take care of and I've owned one in the past for awhile before. Then afterwards she gave me my money back for the chameleon And I bought the supplies for the gecko. I went over to checkout and they clearly were short staffed.. one of the workers that was there other then the manager herself was obviously new and had a line full of people. I was waiting there in line for atleast 10 minutes people were getting irritated with the wait I finally am getting checked out by the same lady the manager who had helped me earlier and once again she cuts me off when I'm speaking to pick up the phone of another customer and makes me wait a couple more minutes even though I was just in line for 10 minutes.. she finally comes back and I told her I would like to purchase one of the leopard geckos along with my other supplies and she gives me a dirty look and tells me she is not going to be selling me a gecko because I had just returned the chameleon, I felt like I was in a dream in that moment because these are 2 different animals were talking about here. She continues to say that she's allowed to deny selling me an animal if she wants to and that I can go somewhere else to buy the leopard gecko but not there this beyond pissed me off because I had a long day driving around town and now she is making me drive another 40 minutes to different store to buy the same lizard that they have plenty of I told her to just check me out for the items and I left. On the other hand I drove to a petsmart in east Hartford and they were so nice! Very welcoming when you come in and sold me a cute gecko his name is treecko and he's very happy In his new environment! read more

(big understatement) lol but I enjoy visiting this location because the staff is helpful. I received advice on more natural brands and it's been a game changer.. BEWARE! My wife made an appointment for both of our dogs today to be groomed. When we arrived we were told there would be an additional 3 hour wait. What is the point of an appointment if it means nothing. Then we were offered a bump to the head of the line option which would only increase our bill by $7 for each dog. We agreed to the additional amount since we did not want to leave our dogs with them for the additional hours. Once the dogs were finished we received our bill. Each dog was charged $11 instead of the $7 which we were told. When we questioned the additional charge she said sorry I miss quoted you. At this point we walked out of the grooming area and asked to speak with the manager. No one ever came. read more

Absolutely the worst experience ever! I try to return some food I bought for my pup Puffy. PetCo stuff told me that I can return it if Puffy doesn't like it, so I thought PetSmart might be the same way. One food she would throw up right after eating, even I mixed it with her old food which are the same brand. The other two treats my pup won't even touch. Anyway, the cashier treated me badly, kept teaching me how to feed my pup and indicated that it was my fault for Puffy's vomiting. It's like I should keep trying and ignore Puffy's discomfort until she gets used to the new food. I wouldn't get mad at all if the cashier shows a little bit sympathy for Puffy and just apologizes that it's their rule so that I can't return. What made my madness a plus was that she double checked my credit card at the end. Never ever gonna go there at all. read more

I had my 1 year old shepherd with us and she had her pit bull mix puppy and we were asked to leave the store due to I guess their breed being banned. On September 29 I bought a bag of Natural Balance LID (Limited Ingredients Diet) for cats. The list price was $22.99. The scanner at the register read the bar code and rang it up as $27.99. I noticed this when I arrived home and returned the next day with my receipt, had them check the price and sure enough, the machine was coded to enter the 22.99 as 27.99. I got a refund of $5.00. It should have ended there with corrections made. Three weeks later, on October 19, I returned for the same product, still marked at $22.99 and the register again rang it up as $27.99 which means they either hadn't bothered to correct the issue, or it was intentional. I pointed it out immediately this time, and they deducted the $5. from the total with no explanation. I have to wonder how many people have bought that same product over (at least) several weeks without realizing they are being overcharged $5.00 per bag. And how many other products at this store are coded to ring up this way? NOTE THE LISTED PRICE IN THE AISLE WHEN YOU GET YOUR PRODUCT AND CHECK THE REGISTER DISPLAY AT TIME OF PURCHASE! read more

My cat is on prescription food, and I can buy it here, very close to where I work, so that's why I come here. What's annoying? Having to jump through so many hoops in order to buy it. It's not food that contains medication so it's not safe for pets that aren't prescribed it; they just keep it in a "special" section in the back. I had to bring in a note from my vet and get a special card printed up (with an expiration date, by the way) so I can purchase the pricier cat food. If you don't present it at the register, they won't let you buy it. It's cat food, not a controlled substance! Also, they're always trying to get me to sign up for their discount card. However, prescription cat food does not ever go on sale. Ever. So there is no point. When I say "No thank you" at the register, they don't listen; they just keep talking about how I need to sign up, and once the manager even said, "It's worth it for discounts and things," took one out from under the counter, scanned it with my stuff, and handed it to me before walking away and handing me over to another cashier. I again declined it. I just don't need more stuff in my wallet and on my keychain. read more

We were here recently looking for supplies for our feline friend and when we we found a cheaper price on their website, the store associate was more than happy to price match. Aside from the large inventory of fresh fish to buy, they have a small collection of reptiles and birds as well as a rotating cast of cats to adopt. After looking at dog food on line I went to the store and found that the price was $4 higher. A little disappointed but I paid and left. Afterwards, I got the PetSmart review and filled it out, wonder if they even look at those things. Well, the next day, I get a call from one of the managers who wanted to know more about my experience & let me know that PS has a price matching guarantee. I was floored to find out that they cared enough to call and correct things and when I went to get the refund, they were friendly and easy to deal with. Actually, they were friendly even when I made the first purchase. I don't know about the other depts, but I was happy after the follow up and the refund. They also said that they would discuss with management my comments about additional signs to get around the store more easily. Manager did not want to give for sale price so bought only condo on sale and then purchased the scratcher on Amazon for $15 cheaper. Terrible service! Waited 25 minutes for someone to help us in the fish dept. Eventually walked out without getting anything. As we were waiting watched several emoloyees hiding in the isle pretending not to see us. Went to the single cashier who appeared to be the only person actually working and she called on the intercom for help in the fish dept still no one showed up. The fish themselves were in various conditions the tank I wanted to buy from looked good but others had sickly looking fish and others were marked as the wrong variety. Very disapointed in the experience. I have bought fish there in the past and up until today never had complaints about the service or quality of stock but after today I will probably never shop this location, or any petsmart again. read more

Meh. That sums it up for this location. Yes, it's in a busy area so it should be expected to get lots of foot traffic but every time I come in here I have to wait in line or the item I wan't isn't in-stock. Too many times I've been on what seems a never ending line where the cashier has a need for a lengthy conversation about a service or a policy or recommending a product and then going all in about the product. Save that for the sales floor- ring up the merchandise and be done - I have things to do. I've since started going to the East Hartford Location which is further from me, but worth it. The staff in E. Hartford gets it - and they are all super nice and efficient. Even when the Credit Card system was down, they were still on-top of their game and had a work around for it. I doubt the team in Manchester could have been as helpful with a system outage. read more

My wife just came out of PetSmart where she bought FreshPet food for our small breed dog. I got upset with her because the price for the 1lb bag of food was $8. We normally pay $5.49 for the same food at Target (which is already expensive) for what is basically chicken, sweet potatoes, and dried cranberries. Never again will we shop at PetSmart for anything. Enjoy the last $2.50 of extra markup you will ever get from us. As for the FreshPet food...it's days are also over too. After this last, over-priced, bag is gone....we are going to make Fresh pet food at home for about 25% of the price. read more

They have a nice selection of pet items and I've come here often. Typically, I would give them a pretty high mark. Today, I'm here for dog food and to try and pick up a 'Christmas fish' for my niece. The slow service and lethargy of the staff is really something to behold. Add to this a dude that is spending forever returning dead fish and selecting more. It would be nice if the crew showed just a small amount of spark. I understand that this isn't a high-paying gig by they come across as sad and depressed. No holiday music could be a root cause. Maybe the music scares the lizards. I have no idea. I suspect that this is a tough business overall. That said, you're bumming me out and pet stores are supposed to be sort of fun. read more

I went here for the first time to have a small dog groomed because my normal place was booked. I have to say I was more than pleased with the job that was done. The dog looked fantastic & before even starting the groomers asked my opinon on how I wanted her to look & I was oblivious on how she should be shaved. That was never asked of me at the other place. All I would say is she needs to be shaved down & she'd come back looking acceptable. But PetSmart just went above & beyond & even put a bow in her hair lol. Apparently, the dog also felt the same way because she didn't want to leave right away. At other times, she's pretty much running out the door. The only thing I wasn't happy about was that it took the full 3 hrs, but the dog looked great. I'll just better prepare myself for the next time, so I'm not roaming around the area. The customer service while I was in the actual store just killing time was great as well. A rep was helping a couple & she came right over to me as soon as she was done with them. Everyone in the store was so pleasant. They have earned a customer & I suggest signing up for the rewards card. read more

Banfield seems great in theory. I understand that they are a vet training hospital, but I have never gotten the same licensed vet twice. The first time I brought my cat, the vet spoke only to my boyfriend who accompanied me even though I was the one answering all the questions. They incorrectly identified the worms he had and left it untreated for months while assuring me they would get better. I was forced into buying a flea treatment even after explaining that my cat nor the dogs in my apartment have fleas (so his tapeworm was not a returning issue, but rather a persistent one). Also, they are nearly impossible to get on the phone or at the front desk since they are slightly understaffed. All things considered, it is a good value for a kitten's first year of treatments and vaccinations. My cat's neuter surgery webt perfectly smoothly and he recovered in no time! Just beware that anything extraneous adds up quickly. read more

We were asked 3 times in 5 minutes if we found everything we needed. Service to me is everything. I was quite impressed with the cat toy selection, they lowered their prices a little bit, some things were on sale. Usually you have to go to the dog area to purchase a decent cat collar, but they had a good selection of them in the actual cat area. I was overall impressed with the cat supply section. Also, the cat tree selection was good. I did not go anywhere near the dog area so I cannot comment on that. The fish selection was quite lame I can say, in my opinion. No large fish. read more

Grooming salon is top notch!! My little Yorkie always comes out of there with a fresh even cut. Staff is so friendly, Erin is our favorite groomer she goes above and beyond plus he loves her too! The manager and her workers here at PetSmart in Manchester, CT are very rude. My grandmother and Aunt both have dogs currently paid and taking training classes.I've been to 2 classes without a problem, yet when I tried to do it today, I got kicked out and I am only 14. The manager said I could not participate because I have I didn't pay and the worker because I have a puppy not paid for also. This is so unfair I help train my grandmothers dog and they didn't let me participate all because I didn't pay for my dog these people are horrible just looking for money. read more

They have tons of merchandise for dogs and cats, and other animals. There is a wide variety and so that is why I keep going there. They can be pricey compared with discount stores. The staff tries to be helpful and cheerful. If you go often enough, you'll notice that sometimes the store doesn't have enough people on to take care of the customers with questions. Oh, and we do like looking at the fish, critters, animals up for adoption, etc. They do need more people to help with the adoptions. Anyway, it is fun to go there even if you are buying just one little thing. read more

I brought my cat in here to get grommed. I was told they do cats and dogs away from each other. I come back to find my cat next to the dogs strangling itself trying to get away. My cat has passed on. Stay away from here .if you value your animals life. read more
