This is solely for the grooming department- just wanted to give a quick shout out to Katherine (sp?), who not only squeezed my pup in for an emergency spot-shave to remove some burrs that were tangled in his long fur, but also treated him like he was her dog from the moment she met him!! She was so sweet and attentive and you can tell she truly loves her job and the dogs she's grooming. I made a same-week appointment with her to have her "fix" Toby's funky spot-shaved hair cut, and she did not disappoint! I'm floored by how adorable he looks and how wonderfully she treated him. I got to Petsmart on E Bidwell at 10:25 for our 10:30 appt, someone acknowledged me at 10:35. My groomer arrived at 10:38. While waiting, I witnessed one girl yell at the dog she was grooming several times and the girl who was helping me snidely commented, "THAT dog needs training." You could tell none of the staff was happy to be there. My groomer looked at my puppy and told me he would have to be a 7 blade, which I was fine with. He's a Labradoodle who swims, causing lots of mats in his hair. She seemed annoyed when she told me it would be 3-4hr bc she had another dog to work on. While walking to my car I called my husband and told him about my experience- I should have listened to my gut and left with my dog. Within the hour I received a call from the groomer telling me she couldn't finish the grooming because of the mats and that he would have to go to my vet and be sedated and shaved with a surgical razor otherwise he would get hematomas on his ears and bleed out! My husband picked him up and they charged him for the work she did and another groomer in the back told him, "That's going to be an expensive surgery!" I took my dog to the vet and our vets response was, "You should probably get a new groomer." I am outraged and wish she never touched my dog if she wasn't comfortable! I cannot believe the condition that she left my dog in and the lack of experience and people skills amongst this staff is unacceptable. read more

The employees here are really nice and helpful, but unfortunately everything here is way overpriced. A screen enclosure here is $145, but I found the same exact thing for $100 in other pet stores. Also, I would never buy an animal here. Why? As a big chain store they don't have the time and resources to properly care for (or teach their employees how to care for) many different species of animals. As a result, a chameleon ends up getting the same care as a gecko when in fact they are very, very different. Then people buying pets also become misinformed, and long story short they wake up one morning to find their new pet has "moved on to a better place". But if you like spending a lot of money, rescuing sick animals, and talking to nice people, then this is the place for you. read more

After bringing 2 dogs for over a year I was shocked by today's results: 1) Groomer requested did not groom dogs 2) The intake person (who I found later had groomed them) asked if their ears were to be "cut to the leather". Took my small dog in for a nail trim/grind. Saw them hurt my dog with their grinding tool and saw lady have the nerve to complain when my dog "peed" out of fear. I wont be taking my dogs back. EVERY TIME I have brought them in for nail grinding, I have to ask them to re do it. This last time I got my 2 dogs out to the car and noticed that on my little dog not only were the nails super jagged like they clipped them with a dull pair of scissors, but they didn't do one whole paw. So I went back in... then I got home and realized they didn't do the dew claws on my other dog... they were long and digging in. This has happened so many times here I give up and will find a new place. Plus the only good person there, Desi, moved to a new store. I took my newly adopted dog into be groomed and Kira and Shane in the grooming dept. made me and my new pup feel so welcome. They answered all of my questions and took such good care of my new pet. He came out looking so handsome and shiny after all of his treatments (bath, furminator, nail shave). When I picked him up his tail was wagging and I was so pleased with his grooming. I took my 2lb 3oz chihuahua into the grooming dept for her nail trim. She had her nails clipped here once before by a female groomer with no issues. This time, I was greeted by a female groomer who checked her in... then 2 males (rough looking, unkept apperance) came out to retrieve my dog. I EXPLAINED to them in length that because she is very small and fragile that they needed to be careful with her. I was nervous to hand her off to them... they took her back and moments later I hear horrible cries and yelps that I didn't even identidfy as being my dog. My daughter in a panic told me it WAS our girl....so I shouted to the back "Hey! is that my dog!?" I got no response.... the girl is sweeping and comes out to sweep the front. I asked her "Is that my dog crying out? if it is... I want to cancel! Please bring her out" she said.... "oh yes, that is her, she is just angry. She is not hurt". I told her I would still like to cancel.... please bring her out to me. The one male groomer brought her out with a plastic cone around her neck smeared all over with blood. I screamed and looked at her little face to see blood smeared on her face and running out of both nostrils. She was licking the blood prefusely and shaking. I shouted and demanded to know " What the F is going on?! What did they do to her!? The male groomer said it was a STRESSED INDUCED BLOODY NOSE. (BS) he tried to explain that when dogs get nervous their noses bleed. NEVER in my life have I heard such nonsense.... she has NEVER had a bloody nose. The truth is that 2 male groomers confined her so aggressivly and with such force that they injured her nose and it was bleeding from an internal abrasion. A vet visit that evening confirmed that dogs do not get stressed induced nose bleeds.... and she was physically injured. PetSmart actually never even clipped all of her nails. They clipped 4 nails on a back foot within a 15 minute time frame. read more

My puppy was groomed there and they cut his ear bad enough to have to rush him to the vet. I realize things happen the manager was helpful with calling the vet. They paid the $280 bill too. My problem is they cover that cost but never really offer anything to help with the dog. He was traumatized. Didn't even check on using after. Sure, on occasion, Petsmart will have deals that are hard to ignore for a college student living on a budget. However, other than that, the negatives are endless. First, most of the employees do not know much about the animals that are in store and constantly check their phone instead of helping the customers. Furthermore, I was looking at the small animals, and one fancy rat seem to be of poor health. She had excessive discharge around one eye and her coat was thinning due to shedding and poor sanitary conditions. Cages were filthy and these animals deserve better, especially with an in store vet. In conclusion, I will never buy animals here due to neglect of animals' wellbeing and will minimize how often I shop here. read more

For people that are supposed to be trained to deal with animals, they sure don't like too. I don't know any dogs that enjoys having a stranger bathe them or that doesn't get at little stressed out by the experience. I don't feel that they were very patient with our little guy, nor have they ever been. He's visited this location several times in the past, but today was worse than others. 2 of groomers displayed a look of annoyance and frustration when I asked if the dog I heard barking was mine. I'm sure he isn't the first dog that barked when he was left in a kennel alone. They should be more empathetic towards dogs who suffer from anxiety. read more

Their feeder crickets are SO EXPENSIVE. They charge $3.99 for 24 crickets. Any respectable herp shop will sell them for 20 crickets to the dollar. And with the way my baby beardie and day gecko eat, they need more than 24! She goes through over 160 a week and going somewhere else saved me over $30! I will NEVER go here for pet supplies. She was so kind and this was the first time that I didn't have to have them fix something (a weird spot where it was uneven, etc.) in the three and a half years I've been taking her to Petsmart for grooming. Katherine for grooming is AMAZING. I have a puppy who is teething and usually always tries to nip at me when I groom him myself, so I was kind of nervous bringing him in for his first professional groom ever. Katherine made all that nervousness go away and my puppy did amazing with her. She truly knows how to get dogs to cooperate and at the same time is really gentle and positive with them. She is great and I will def go back to her. read more

My mom always brings my dog here to get his hair cut and we fell in love with this one girl there (I forgot her name unfortunately). She's so friendly and nice to our dog and it's evident she knows what she's doing because he comes out looking so handsome every time. If this review was based on her it would be 5 stars. The other lady who works in the grooming area isn't as friendly and definitely impatient. In the store itself the employees seem not to want to be there; the cashier abandoned their station and by the time she came back, a line had already formed. Horrible! Have you ever had the feeling that someone just doesn't care? Today I felt that at this store. I found another instance where employees didn't care about their job or clients. A few years back we adopted a green cheek conure. Why? Aside from love at first sight it was due to the abuse we witnessed by this staff. When I was looking over the 4 conures they had I saw Oatis and asked them to take him out. The staff was reluctant and unhappy. Door opened, hand went in, bird was ripped from the cage by his tail feathers! Sadly Oatis lived at the store for 1yr. My immediate response was to adopt him and not have him be put back in their holding tank. Fast forward, after frequently stopping in for pet supplies we went in this Valentine's day and adopted a couple finches. What did we see? A fancy conure! Vivacious personality and cute as can be. However he too was being mistreated and spoken poorly of by staff. The price was not affordable at the time so we left with finches in hand. We have mulled it over ever since. Today while out shopping for wedding supplies I was eager to stop in to see if he was still there. To my surprise he was. This time less playful and happy looking. I asked staff about pricing and flexibility and was shot down. I asked to speak with a manager to see if there was any way they could work with me so he could have a home today. No. I requested he call his boss to try and see. No. My response was pleading. Finally yes. Once done talking with whomever he came back saying no yet again. He was more than happy to collect my info and call me in a few months with a reduced price. I asked for his bosses number that he just spoke with. No. I left heading hanging low in sadness for the poor bird. Stay out of this store to save yourself from the same. read more

We had taken our Staffy to PetSmart here in Rancho and after they did a horrible job on her, we swore to never take her back. But, once our Staffy started to smell and we couldn't wash her ourselves due to the cold weather, we decided to give in and take her to another PetSmart location. We decided to take her to the one in Folsom since we had some errands to run in that area, anyway. We called for an appointment and they had one available on the same day (which is unheard of in the Rancho location, by the way.) The girl working there was great; you could tell she really loved animals because she was being super patient with our dog, who was a nervous wreck knowing she was going to be left alone in the hands of strangers. We told the girl that the Rancho PetSmart had lied and told us our dog tried to bite them when they tried cutting her nails. So, the girl told us she would try her hand at it, even call in another staff member to help her if necessary, and that she would let us know how our dog reacted. We picked her up 2-3 hours later, where she looked as clean as a whistle, with her coat glistening, and smelled amazing! They did a truly fantastic job on her. The girl also let us know our dog gave her no trouble at all when she tried to cut her nails. She told us our dog just sat there calmly, without putting up any sort of fight, and let her do her job. The drive here is a little deep, especially when considering the Rancho location is right down the street from us, but it's totally worth it! We will definitely be taking our Staffy back here for another bath and brush session! read more

One of the dog behavioral specialist helped us pick out the best training collars/leashes for our newly adopted pitbull, my boyfriend and I were so grateful for his real knowledge this guy is not getting paid enough, thankful for the friendly staff who always treats my dog well, he's such a sweet guy but being a pit a lot of people are put off, it's funny now experiencing it first hand, it truly takes kind compassionate people to treat him with such kindness. read more
