The groomers are some of the rudest people I've ever met, on multiple occasions since January this year. They're clearly meant to work with animals because they don't know how to interact with humans. I do like this location for the pet hotel. We have used them for many years and only had one incident where they combined smaller dogs and larger dogs together and my larger dog was accused of an instance of aggression - this has never happened before or since. I questioned the decision to combine them like this and was told it is not commonplace - I will be sure to be adamant that smaller dogs and larger dogs be divided by size if in a group setting. read more

Good location, though we have to admit that we like the pet hotel better from this location. Their stock isn't the greatest that's why we usually don't come to this location for supplies or food. But to be fair, we give our little Pom food from the fridge and it can really be hit or miss. The pet hotel was great overall and the experience was something we were happy with. We absolutely loved our experience working for their assist manager at the time (Nicole Arango). When you are leaving your little furry buddy, you want the people to be not only caring but actually love animals. And she made us feel good about leaving her at their hotel. Took my 5 1/2 month old Pomeranian to get a haircut on Monday, made an appointment online with Sydney. Right of the start BAD BAD BAD Vibe from her. My puppy is very very shy. But before bringing him here he had a first haircut when he was 4 months old and they did an all over trim. This time I asked for the same and they said we can't do an all over trim cuz it would take a long time. Like are you kidding??? & They charge me for an Adult "Haircut" when he should still be a Puppy Haircut. When I picked him up he basically looked the same. & Was very sad & scared like I don't know what Sydney did to my puppy. Worst worst worst experience ever!!!! read more

I bring my dogs to the same groomer, he does a great job. That is wht this store gets any stars from me. Grooming department aside, there is a "floor manager" named "gill" (probably pronounced like "jill") who is rude and acts absolutely obtuse about any issue you bring to her. She is not meant for customer service because she can immediately escalate a situation. She's not at all what you'd call an asset to the company. read more

Refused to service my healthy dogs bc they were older and it was too difficult leaving me in a TERRIBLE situation even though I am able to take them to the PetSmart downers with no problem. Don't take your dogs to the Darien location. Lazy and irresponsible. They were fine sending me to another location bc they aren't equipped to actually do WORK for dogs that require it. I'll be making sure corporate knows how they LET me book this appointment, drop the dog off, LEAVE and then decide they didn't want to service her. And when they called didn't even have the COURAGE to leave a message for me, they called my father who is caring for my mother with cancer to pick her up. Disgusting. We've had our dog for about 4 years, and when we go on vacation, or just can't keep her as active as she needs we us the Doggie Daycare or Pets Hotel. The staff is awesome with her and she absolutely loves it there. When I drop her off she literally pulls me to the checkin area. While they don't provide stay summaries as often as they used to , between COVID and staffing issues, that is understandable. read more

I travelled from downtown chicago to meet a potential kitten at this Petsmart. I was told I would be meeting the kitten in a small room. The room was so tiny and cramped and there was cat feces all over the ground. Additionally, there was a caged cat in the tiny room. As soon as the foster let out the potential kitten out of the cage, the other cat started hissing and the kitten was terrified and anxious. Would not interact with me and was cornered in the room because it was so small. I just feel like I lost the opportunity to bond/interact with the cat because of the condition of the viewing room. read more

The staff was very friendly but my complaint has to do with the bettas. I work at pet store myself and I know there is protocol for cleaning them. We walked in and saw the cups completely filled with algae and the water was turning yellow which could mean there were high levels of ammonia in their cup which is extremely toxic. Some of the cups were not even filled to the area they should have been. I know bettas are often neglected but this is the worst I've ever seen. I would think that someone would notice since they are right in the front but guess not. All the main fish tanks looked very clean so I wonder why these cups are so neglected.... please do better. read more

Dying reptiles. Every time I go into this store I check on the reptiles, especially the snakes. ALWAYS dehydrated and under fed. Last time I was in there was a ball python in the corner which I'm almost certain was dead. Pet stores are notorious for this kind of care regarding reptiles. read more

The first time I made an appointment for my Yorkie to get groomed everything was fine. His cut was fine and they had no concerns. The second time I took him when picking him up they let me know that he was nervous and didn't want anyone to touch his feet. Now today, I take my dog, and they call 15 minutes after to let me know I should come pick him. They informed me that he was not going to be fully groomed because they couldn't finish the grooming. But yet, they want me to pay full price. Please take your pet to someone who has plenty of experience and patience. read more

I've taken my little dog here a few times to get groomed and I've never had a problem. My dog is a sweet old lady who always gets the best report when I pick her up. But today was a different story. I picked up my dog and the lady that did her grooming said she kept moving her head and trying to bite her while cutting around her face. I doubt this happened!! I'll also mention my dog doesn't have all her teeth, she recently got most of them taken out. So she then tells me she ripped out some of my dogs hair from her chin. I thought it was only a few strands so I didn't think much of it. When I got home to put a new collar on my fur baby I see this!!! It looks like a chicken that has pulled it's feathers out!!! My dog is very well behaved and loves her grooms. This is UNACCEPTABLE!! How is this possible?? We're you manhandling my dogs chin and purposely trying to hurt her? I need answers! We are out for a week decided to brought my dog for their pet hotel and one of the service my husband took is groom him as well before we pick him up. But ofcourse my dog was cleaned before we brought him to their facility. My husband called them and let them know a day ahead that we will pick him up a day early. Im so excited to see my dog but instead i was so disappointed, mad and so pissed. My dog look like shit, look like he was abused. He look and smell like nasty, my dog color is white and became yellowish, his abdomen full of dried pee, his face was so crusty. My husband went to their salon come to find out no one told them he will be pick a day early meaning no one communicate to them that our poor dog was supposes to get groom before we pick him up. If you have a dog that takes a while to warm up to people, do not bring them to Donna's training class. After just one class (where I walked away extremely proud of my Lily), Donna called me to tell me she isn't comfortable with my dog in the class and asked that I remove her. She gave multiple reasons with one being kids in the classroom. Lily just spent a weekend having a sleepover with my 6 year old nephew who's only complaint was that she puts her slobbery toy in his lap too much. Lily did show her teeth to Donna AFTER I warned her that Lily may not like her ears being touched by a new person. If a trainer cannot handle a dog showing teeth, they need to get new job. Lily had taken two successful classes with Pam at Countryside Petsmart with no issues what-so-ever. She has improved SIGNIFICANTLY and I am proud of the accomplishments Lily has made in her training. If Countryside wasn't so far from my new location, I would have continued going but I decided to try out Donna and I wish I wouldn't have. I feel completely disrespected, discriminated against and discouraged. I won't be stepping foot in Darien Petsmart ever again and will definitely not be recommending Donna for training. read more

I have had my dog for 13 years now, and have needed to get him groomed every quarter, of every year, during this time frame. This is the WORST PLACE I HAVE EVER BROUGHT HIM TO GET GROOMED! He is a schnauzer, and we just moved to this area from Palatine, and I NEVER have had an issue at any of the groomers I brought him to before. Now I bring him there and they don't really groom him as they just shave him down cause he is "too matted". Really? Never had that issue before anywhere else, and they actually cut him to look like a schnauzer, not just shave him. I brush the heck out of him before I bring him, and we checked him for matting before they take him away. They even shaved his beard off the first time! Really? Shaved the beard of a schnauzer? The manager had to apologize to me and offer a free trim next time. Shame on me for even bringing him back. Now, I have been told to not bring him back any more cause he is too old now. What a joke. Don't bring your dog to get groomed here, unless you want it done by untrained hacks. Such a waste. read more

Doggie Day Camp has been a huge PLUS in our lives, and my dog Lucy enjoys every stay here. First, not every PetSmart has a Pets Hotel so it's a lucky perk that I live within a few miles. I also just discovered there is an 800 number to call if you're making an appointment after hours, so getting your dogs here is easy! You can drop your dog off at 7 am and they will keep pets until 8:30 pm. That is an incredibly long day, but is a great option for busy pet parents. The entire stay costs around $20. The employees here are incredibly friendly and even remembered my dog from her stays at the Pets Hotel in Aurora. I haven't gotten a chance to see the employees interact with the dogs throughout the day but they always have something personal to say about Lucy and even let me know she gets pretty bossy (barking) at other dogs. When you pick up your pet, they give you a Pawgress Report and you're set. They check for vaccines so I always feel comfortable bringing my dog in. They have a monthly deal if you bring your dog in more than 10 times. read more

Don't groom or board your dog here. Found at least 3 groomers 10X better than the inexperienced staff they have and the boarding? They really up-sell the doggy playtime and what a fool I was to fall for it. Had to bring my dog to Vet immediately after picking him up for diaherrea, vomiting and total listlessness. Diagnosis? Thankfully it was only severe stress and not a disease. With diseases like the Dog flu running rampant the policy of having dogs that never met each other 'play' for 8 hour shifts seems insane now. As a dog novice learning the ropes and depending on alleged dog experts to guide me I will never board or groom my dog there ever again. The rest of the store is fine for product purchase but just because you're a dog lover doesn't make you an educated dog caretaker I found out. Duh. read more

Seems to be a pretty typical PetSmart to me. I come in every month or so to buy some dog food. I have a beagle so he usually roams the aisles with me. He has only ever had one accident in this store before, I'm guessing he was marking over a spot that wasn't cleaned very well. But an employee was very understanding and pointed me to the "Oops" station where I was able to get some cleaning supplies. They got rid of the PetSmart frequent buyer card, now they just use your phone # and email address. Works for me, one less thing on my keychain. And once I confirmed my email with their new system I got a $5 off coupon. There are sometimes I come to this store and it reeks of urine. Other than that this has been a pretty nice store to buy my dog some grub. read more

She became very informative and courteous. When I had to reschedule and or modify my times whenever I go, the staff always helped me over the phone and even in person. We go there for grooming for our victorian bulldog. Before we were getting excellent service from paul but he left for a better career in which we are happy for him. Then we are just lucky again that we have another excellent groomer REBECCA. She really takes pride of her job and takes good care of our dog too. We had one bad experience before from another female groomer there because Rebecca wasn't there. We only go there if Rebecca is there. We only trust our dog to her. She deserves to be appreciated for her hardwork and dedication. read more

Got to say I'll never shop or have my dog groomed here again. I went to have my dogs nail trimmed. I alway put a cage on my dog when we're in public places and when she go's in for services. Bella is a 110 lb rott. Bella is a very sweet dog and loves people, but can be aggressive to aggressive animals.They told me they would not trim her nails unless I took off her mask.so I asked to talk to a manager how was very ignorant. So I took the mask off and they still wouldn't work on her because they said my dog was mean. Those words never can out off my moth.this place is a joke and is ran by incompetent kids. THE WORST PLACE TO LEAVE YOUR PUP! DONT DO IT! If anything bring your dog to the Dog District because that's where I ended up and she had the BEST experience. Was so tuckered out from playing all day. I tried to bring my pitbull to petsmart for the doggie daycamp and with their pricing just as high as an actually good place, you'd think they'd offer more. They have many MANY breed restrictions, pitbulls among them unfortunately so my 5 month old puppy was only eligible for the daycare (not daycamp) meaning she'd be in a 4-6 caged room the entire time of her stay (no outdoor time at all) and it costs extra for someone to simply play with her for 15 minutes (9 fricken dollars extra for 15 minutes). The alternative place we took her to had 3 yards for the dogs to play, in case any need to be separated. A huge indoor play room, and they hold no breed restrictions given that your dog is not aggressive and has no history of any conflict with other dogs! For only a couple dollars more than the terrible petsmart experience. Petsmart doesn't even deserve one star in my opinion. When I asked the lady what other breed restrictions there were, she replied with so much attitude "quite a few so" and listed about 3 more. If you love your dog, don't do it to em. read more

I should have listened to the reviews here. Lesson learned. I picked up 2 rescue dogs who were very dirty, I'm talking no bath in at least a year? Tried to wash them myself at a do it yourself place first. I don't move very well and had a dickens of a time with them as they are huge. When I set the appointment to wash them I let the groomers know this. I brought them in and explained once again the situation and how I couldn't wash them well enough on my own for the rinse water to stop coming out black. The girl I was talking to said she was the manager in charge of this location and would handle it personally. I even offered to pay extra and tip her very well to take extra time on them to make sure they were clean and groomed and smelling nice. I came to pick the dogs up and the dark haired manager wasn't there. Some other girl brought the dogs out. She told me she washed them and had no idea of the dirty they had held, but assured more they were clean (no nice smell to them either) and said off they felt dirty still that it was only because of the hair oil. I got them home and petted them all day. By nighttime my finger nails were black. I took them to another groomer who got more in the next day. Had them back for a week now and no more dirt or the alleged oil. Funny huh? I've been taking dogs here for years, never a problem and always a great job, not anymore since this dark haired manager took over. The only reason this is 2 stars instead of one is because of the store. Always helpful, super nice employees and good prices, just at stay away from the groomers! read more

I have visited many pet stores and this is my favorite. All the staff is friendly. Matt, the manager, is not only knowledgeable but is always easily found when I come into the store. I was going on a trip and wanted a carrier for my puppy. I showed Matt the one I thought might be good but he showed me another one that was less expensive and much lighter. Matt put the carrier together for me without me even asking, he asked me first if I would like it assembled. He assembled it quickly and helped me put it into the shopping cart. He even helped me put Benny into the carrier. What I noticed that it had more openings so I did not have to push my puppy into the carrier. Benny has taken the puppy class, intermediate, and advanced several times (with modifications to keep it fun and learning) . The trainer, Donna, has over 16 years experience. I could easily tell that she loves what she does. She is very good and patient and helps those who have problems with their puppies by showing the owners how to help their puppies do the required task. She also brings in her dogs to use as an example. Benny has learned very much and It is amazing to watch her and the dogs interact. Finally, I called to ask if my puppy's nails could be trimmed and was told that I could come in anytime that afternoon. I came 20 minutes after calling and they trimmed my puppy's nails right away. There were several stylists available. I highly recommend this Petsmart because of the excellent and caring staff who obviously love animals and show it by their positive attitude. read more

This is mostly a review for the groomer at this Petsmart location. I took my little pooch here on Christmas Eve because it's right near my mom's house (where we were staying for the holidays). I wasn't really impressed with the entire experience. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't outstanding, either. We brought our guy about 10 minutes before our scheduled appointment and check-in was smooth. We let them know what needed to be done and everything went smoothly. I was only disappointed that they didn't tell us how long the groom would actually take. This is the first dog I've ever had and the second he's ever been taken to a groomer (this is the first time I've ever taken him). I went back to the Petsmart after about an hour and they looked shocked when I asked if he was ready. They said "Oh no, it usually takes three hours." What?! I mean, apparently two-three hours is normal (according to my friends who own dogs) but the first time we took him in they said "You'll drop him off at 8 and pick him up around noon." We figured it was because there were other dogs and appointment times overlap (which was true) - it only actually took an hour and a half and we picked him up right after that. I was a little irritated that I tried to do some last-minute shopping while he was at the groomer and he wasn't even ready when I stopped back in. He smelled like gingerbread shampoo when we picked him up which was very cute. I don't think they did he greatest job on his nails (they were obviously filed and not cut but they were kind of jagged and weird instead of nice and smooth). Other than that, everything was just OK. The price is right ($19.99 with tax) and he had his ears cleaned, shampoo, dry, nail clip and that horrible anal expression thing (poor small dogs). I probably won't ever go back to have him groomed here again - we'll just keep going to the small place we took him to the first time. I thought the service was a lot more friendly and personal and it just didn't take as long. read more
