We were looking for a puppy training for a rambunctions little puppy, and were excited to see that our local Petsmart offers classes for puppies as young as 10 weeks old. If you sign-up for puppy training, ask for Doris! She's a bit unconventional, but the woman is a dog whisper in the truest sense. Our puppy loves going to classes, and has mastered every command within just a few days. Yes, he's brilliant, but it's also because he's got a good teacher! We also got advice on the best food to feed him and exercise him. She was willing to give advice on individual behavior problems as well, and gave very personalized attention. The improvements we've seen in our puppy's behavior were well worth the cost! read more

Advised my friend to take her kitten to this place, since I stopped by two years ago and had a look at their pet selections. She got her kitten after she had her first professional grooming ever ( the kitten was two months old) and when she got home, she notice that her kitten had fleas. I couldn't believe her at first and I asked the friend who I went with the first time since she had a dog. The friend also confirmed that her dog got fleas the only time she took him their and she changed to another place. Would recommend their doctors, one of the best, not the grooming services. I don't like to write bad reviews but people should be aware. Check your pet once you get them back from grooming and confront them if you find something. read more

We were so excited when we moved to Pleasant Ridge and found out that our favorite groomer was coming to the Oakley PetSmart. Sydney is the absolute best! Our doodle is a huge goofball that I'm sure isn't the easiest to groom and she makes him look perfect every time. We constantly have people asking us who takes care of the big guy because his cuts grow out SO well. Its an added bonus that he is always so excited to see her and you can tell she loves him so much! read more

Very unprofessional service. Made an appointment with the groomers and was told just to bring my dog. When I got there they needed his shot record from the time he was a puppy. I had his most recent record on my phone but that wasn't good enough. The staff was very rude. read more

She kept saying how did you get my dog so white as she was holding him, I had to inform everyone they made a mistake and the lady in fact had my dog. Which she swore was her dog. If you love your dog or even just tolerate your dog, do not take them to Petsmart for grooming. The only positive thing to say is it is easy to get an appointment. It is dirty, the groomers do not like dogs. Yes, they seem to be annoyed by any dog that moves during the grooming. I will never go back there and would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I was there on a Saturday and LOVED the rescue dogs! I have a rescue dog and the volunteers were so helpful. Their foster to adopt program really rocks and helps to make sure the dogs are placed in a home where everyone is happy! I hope Petsmart realizes what an asset they have in this group. They even took in cats that were left in a box at Petsmart so they wouldn't go the pound. That's dedication! read more

These days, I roll with a posse including 20 gallon tank of fish, two 10 week old kittens and a 7 month old puppy (I know, crazy right?). With that crew, I'm in here all the time. Like at least twice a week. Seriously. But it's not always about making a Cat food run or picking up a squeaky dog for the pup...we truly use most of the services offered. It's incredibly convenient to have our vet and training classes right in the store. The journey of puppy ownership started right here! Dream house rescue runs their adoption events here...so we picked up our new baby and all his gear at the same time. Since our baby had been to adoption events for a few weeks before we met him, a lot of the Petsmart staff know and love him. He gets a lot of attention there which is helping him get over his general shyness towards strangers. Speaking of training classes, I'll be honest that as a rookie puppy owner I thought the puppy classes were to train the puppy. Nope. Turns out the classes are to teach the owners the skills to train the puppy. Puppy have about a five minute attention span for training and the classes move quickly enough to hold their interest. That means a lot of "homework," which means if you want to see results you really have to put in the time at home. Our pup Jude loves going to class and meeting other dogs and it's been a godsend to have weekly access to an expert on puppy behavior. Those first few weeks we had him (adopted at four months) we had so many questions! Our trainer is Jordan and we think he's the greatest! We did his six week puppy class and made sure to sign up for his intermediate class. The Dude, the pup and I are learning so much! I really like how the classes make use of the store itself as a way to introduce distractions to add challenge as the dogs advance their skills! read more

In terms of selection and price, it's a chain, so it's all pretty fair. I don't buy my dog's food (they don't carry it or anything like it - my dog has allergies and her kibble is insanely specific as she is allergic to storage mites) but I buy my guinea pig food here. I buy some toys, but since some of the toys they sell here are sold at other places with "guarantees" if your dog destroys them (which my dogs ALWAYS do), I usually buy elsewhere. Overall, it's a good place to stop for toys, most dog food (let's be clear, my dog's food is nuts), and other things. Just don't do training here. Go to the Pet Spot. We took our bagle hound to two classes here. The trainer really didn't understand dogs that were not breeds like labs or rottweiliers who are very loyal and driven to please their owner. Mix a beagle and basset hound and find the craziest most stubborn mutt you can find - it needs special attention. We were told to get a harness (which we did) to combat her pulling (which harnesses are built to HELP pull so I am still wondering where that came from - and yes I understand there are those things like gentle leaders and smart walkers which also didn't really work with her. ). Then, when in class she was pulling like crazy, the trainer simply didn't understand what was wrong. We weren't getting ANYWHERE. She learned more at home with me reading books then at class, and the methods were off. If you have a lab or breed with really normal, easily trainable tendencies, I'm sure you'd be fine here. But get a breed that isn't easily trained (look on Animal Planet - their dog breed profiles are pretty in tune with how easy a dog is to train and basset hounds are difficult) and you won't get anything here. They simply don't understand not all dogs are motivated by the same things or even work in the same way. Again, I'd go to the Pet Spot in Norwood for training, if you are reading this review for that. I am always pleased by the grooming here. My dog is high maintenance. If she was a person, she would probably be on meds for anxiety. Every time I take her to the vet or groomer, she tries to make a run for it once she's in the actual grooming area or in the exam room. Somehow, the staff at Petsmart is able to have her looking perfectly groomed. I view it as somewhat miraculous. They even brush her teeth. She runs whenever I've come near here with a doggie tooth brush. She has a beard, which is the style for her breed, and the last time I picked her up, on of the groomers said, "You should try and keep her beard brushed." I nearly laughed in his face-- as if my dog would allow such nonsense from me. As for the store itself, it has reasonable pricing and selection, as probably most petsmarts do. But what sets this one apart for me is the grooming salon. read more

The store itself is good. I go there and buy dog food and the occasional supplies. The thing that ruined it for me was their grooming department. There were times that I would drop my medium sized dog off at around 7 and she wouldn't be done until 1 or later. Other times she would be done at 9. When asked why it took so long they would use the excuse that my dog was hard to work with. The groomer she had would refuse to let anybody work on my dog except for her. There would be times we would schedule an appointment and she would call us to say that she would have to change her schedule so she could come in and work on my dog due to the dog's behavior. There was one day that she did not work on my dog and another groomer did. He did a good job and my dog was happy. It finally came to an end when the last time I took her there, the groomer decided to have her checked by the store's vet because thought we weren't taking care of her. She did this without our permission and we have not took her back since then. Apparently she "left" soon after but I am happy with the Pet Spot which is an excellent place for grooming. The merchandise at this store is pretty typical. The (dog) food is good, but not great. The toys are fairly cheaply made and don't stand up to my 20lb poodle mix. We buy a toy and my dog has it torn apart in under 48 hours. The staff was very friendly and helpful but had limited knowledge. We have also used their grooms services. I booked our two cats for grooming for today, the Labor Day, at the Alamo Ave Petsmart store in Cincinnati, and brought my two cats there but was only told by the grooming saloon that the appointment is for the next Monday, not today. That is impossible because I specifically asked if they are open on Monday the Labor Day, and the lady who took my appointment said yes. Besides, on Mondays at the appointment time, 10:45 am, I will be teaching a class facing many students, so I couldn't make such appointment for other than Monday the Labor Day. Now I have to take my cats home and come back again because they cannot even squeeze my cats in today. What's more upsetting is the attitude of the store manager, Jeff. He was polite but very cold. Even after I told him that I couldn't have made an appointment for the next Monday, and it was not fair for me to bear the consequence of their mistake, he said he can only go by their system and it was NOT their mistake, as if I was lying. He said he does not know who I talked to when making the appointment. Of course I don't either. Who would ask the receptionist for his/her name when making an appointment, anticipating that he/she would make a mistake by putting in their system a wrong time than I was told over the phone? I demanded to review their phone recording, he said they don't have any, yet insisted it was NOT their mistake. I must say that the store/saloon staff are all very nice and courteous. Mistakes like this may happen, but some managerial measures can be taken to avoid/correct such mistakes. What is troubling is the store manager's attitude, who showed no sign of willingness to help or even to correct. In my view this kind of attitude towards customers and towards their own mistakes does not qualify Jeff as a store manager. read more

Petsmart is a great place to look for pets. I just recently adopted a 1 year old German Shepard mix with a great temperament. He also came trained (most likely due to the past owners or the grace of God) and learns quickly. I just taught him how to high five me when ever a USA team wins a medal at the Olympics. read more

Worst guest service experience of my life. We went to get a fish with not knowing much about how to care for one and we left with even more questions than we came in with. She only "recommended" things rather than telling us anything about their policy with selling fish or even what kind of accessories to get (such as a heater). We were in the for 45mim- 1hr and no one seemed to want to help us out. We asked if we could buy 2 black molly fish and the girl at the desk said sure (while we had everything including the bowl picked out) when we went to buy it the associate who helped us initially pulled our cashier aside (INSTEAD OF DIRECTLY TALKING WITH US) that they can't ethically sell the fish to us. We should have been told that when we walked in. It seems impossible to even buy a simple goldfish and bowl for a kid at this store. Overall awful experience, came out feeling ashamed, incompetent, and annoyed. Pets deserve better service than this. read more

I am not pleased with the grooming service we received tonight. I took my blind and deaf pug in to get her nails grinded and was very surprised and upset to see that they grinded and CUT her nails when I got her back, and also cut two of her nails too short. This is the second time this has happened there. I purposely did not ask to get her nails cut because her quicks are very long. The last time they cut her nails without asking me (and cut several too short) they said they left a note on my account to only grind her nails. Obviously this did not happen. There is one lady in grooming that I really like, and she is the reason I went back, however, I don't know if I have the heart to go back yet again. My pug is very nervous about getting her nails grinded and her anxiety gets way worse after an experience like the one tonight. If they thought they needed to cut her nails, they needed to check with me first.. Both times. I think the groomers are all very sweet, and I could tell the girl felt really bad about it.. But that does not take away the mistake. Two stars because I think everyone who works there is very nice and sincerely loves animals. All I am asking is to check with me before doing anything to my dog that I didn't already authorize. Very upsetting. read more

My family and I recently just got a new puppy, therefore, we have been shopping at petSmart a lot these days. The place itself is very nice and clean so I don't have to worry about my puppy picking something up off the floor. The staff is also top notch. When arriving they asked if we needed help finding anything and did to hesitate to give our pup a little loving. However, the one part of the trip that I was displeased with was the grooming stations. It was time for puppies first little trim, and the women was very efficient with cutting his hair, but she had a very hard time keeping my pup on the grooming table. She put a high collar attached to the station around his neck and began. My dog was scared of the razor and began to move. He fell off the table and I thought he was going to strangle himself. I immediately asked if I could come and hold him so he wouldn't hurt himself, however,the women replied no one else is allowed back here, then my dog proceeded to fall from the table a second time. Finally once the trimming was over and my nerves were calmed I was able to collect my puppy and leave. It's safe to say I will be choosing a different groomer next time. read more
