I wanted to give zero but it's not an option. My husband took our husky to a grooming appointment at PetSmart, trusting that he would be in safe hands. Instead, he received a call that a pitbull had broken loose from its kennel and jumped into Marshy's kennel and attacked him. My dog sustained a neck wound and had to be rushed to the emergency veterinarian for treatment. After an emergency vet visit, tears, and a lot of shock, I brought my dog hurt, with a hole in his neck ungroomed. He sat in a kennel for 1 hr and 30 min before being attacked. Now he is recovering, but the hole in his neck keeps breaking open. I should not have to be dealing with this! No pet owner should have to go through this after leaving their dog somewhere they believed was safe. I'm heartbroken, shaken, and honestly very angry! I didn't get a call from the store manager to check on my dog. They didn't give a damn. PetSmart covered the initial vet bill, I have not been given a clear explanation of how this incident occurred. The store manager stated that there were scratches on the divider but could not explain how one dog was able to access another kennel. This raises serious concerns about facility safety and supervision. Don't take your dog to this shit hole or any petsmart for that matter. read more

Roosevelt Road location: I dropped my dog off the other day with very specific instructions. He was fluffy at drop-off. Looked like a RAT with a dog head and tail at pick-up. His skin is very pink, and you can plainly see it through the spare hairs. He also has a mullet on the sides but very short hair in back of his floppy ears. I took my dog for grooming on March 11th and I knew this salon was not organized at all. Salon manager asked me to wait outside as my groomer was late for my dog's appointment. Groomer came but never apologized for being late and never introduced herself but only arrived with venti ice latte and leftover baguette in a tray. (I assumed she went to Starbucks and had some quality time to have some bite on her baguette and she took it for granted that she can be late for a few minutes on a peaceful Saturday morning) Groomer asked me a few questions without having eye contact at all so I asked for salon manager once that funky eyeglass young female groomer took my dog. I addressed my concern but this salon manager seemed she can't be more careless and I just left. 3 hours later, someone called from PetSmart phone number and again she never introduced her name but only told me they were unable to complete grooming as my dog was sensitive when they tried to cut my dog's hair on the feet. I know my dog is senior so just decided to pickup my dog then salon manager brought my dog and said my dog has neurological issue and asked me to take my dog to vet. I felt ashamed and asked her if she has video file to show me as an evidence as she insisted my dog bit her but she obviously has nothing to prove. And she said she canceled the appointment so I don't have to pay. Again, I felt I was being humiliated and left the store with despair. When I came home, I found they made a big blade scars around my dog's ass and tail and I realized this was the reason grooming salon manager canceled the appointment as they knew I would be angry if I paid for the service then later I found these scars afterwards. And I'm more shocked that grooming salon manager tried to hide this but only blames my dog's neurological issue. (If she were to be honest about the scars she made while my dog was moving his body, I could have been much more understandable but she went to totally differently direction and again, this grooming salon manager never called my name or my dog. It's been 14 years with my dog and I had more than 30 times grooming experience at PetCo and PetSmart in NYC, SF and LA but this is very unbelievably bizarre and blunt customer service I never had before) I called at PetSmart headquarters and was told store manager would contact me in 2 business days but he never called so I called again PetSmart tonight and all of sudden, store manager called me later but he was just same creature just like grooming salon manager and I sent him photos but again he never admitted wrongdoing never apologized anything. Erika and Matt, you have NO heart and NO empathy. I'm not sure if you are racially biased but this act is not acceptable. I hope one day you will be treated just like this and you will be regretted how you misbehaved to my dog and myself. I will file a complaint to Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection and in the meantime, keep these photos to make yourself a better human being if you have any working brain on top of your shoulder. read more

I took my dog there for a quick shower and brushing. The ladies at the desk were super nice and took good care of my dog. She was brushed and cleaned and I was given some good advice for what to do for next visit. read more

On Oct 23, I arrived to drop off my pet for a 1/2 day day camp and was greeted with that'll be $40. Unaware this was an event day and the fee is more than the $24 that I usually pay. Ashley, mgr. Informed me that I could take my pet home if I didn't want to pay the additional $16. Really! What a way to treat your long time customer. I refused to take my dog home because I made an appointment via the reservation center. She, Ashley, well pay or dog will be separated for the day because of the party. Her attitude was repulsive and not that of how you treat a long time customer or anyone. I wasn't interested in the picture, coupon book, nor toy. She was rude. Never smiles or greets the client. It was either pay or leave. I handed my dog to the other person and returned to pick her up and the cost had been reduced. I still refused to pay the extra $ and was told not to come back until I paid the extra $10. The problem is the communication between the reservation center and the hotel doesn't exist. The reservation center is not aware of the event day. A problem that needs to be resolved between South Loop Petsmart and their Corporate Office.! Plus they have too many dogs in a small area . My dog always has a wonderful time at Day Camp. She starts getting really excited when we make the turn to go to PetSmart and runs into the store. Staff is kind and caring and always shares updates. We also boarded our kitty while we were on a 10 day vacation. Our cat is on prescription food and ran out. The South Loop was out of his food so they had an employee drop off a bag from another location. I highly recommend the Pets Hotel for dog and cat boarding as well as Doggie Day Camp. read more

Don't board your dog at the South Loop PetSmart! My reservation was lost TWICE. I was not allowed to see where my dog was being kept even though I asked many times. When I arrived early to pick her up she was clearly not housed in the larger space I had requested even though I was told in person she would not be kept in a smaller crate for her 5 day stay. Her bed was full of urine. My dog is well trained and has never ever wet her bed even as a small puppy. She clearly wasn't walked regularly and my fear is that she slept in urine the whole stay. I was never called while I was away and never told there were any issues with my dog. When I came to pick her up, I was told in person there had been no incidents to report. When I called to complain and speak to a manager I was put on hold and then hung up on with no call back. I emailed customer service twice with no response. I will certainly never leave my dog there again and feel awful she was there for 5 days. Don't make the same mistake I did. Keep your dog away! read more

When I first took my dog here it was like when he went into population for dog camp it was like bloody murder. Jumping at the window sliding down the window like "Moooooommm whhhhhhhhy dooont leeaave meee!!!" It was quite embarrassing. He usually loves doggie dog day camp. We just got off a long road trip of 20 hours so he was probably anxious. So I took him back a few days later and he was living la vida loca!!! The staff was nice and understanding. Always a pleasant shopping experience here. The veterinary services are wonderful. All aspects of the store are organized and it is easy to find what your looking for. I have two dogs. I always get their food here. They had all of dogs food items I wanted in stock. The on line ordering was simple and the curbside pick up was fast and effecient. When you walk in the door they always great you. There is always someone to help you find things. The groomers are amazing. They are so good with the animals. I bring both of my dogs for a bath with some extras too. Like teeth brushing and clipping their nails. My dogs love getting groomed here. And the groomer Jimmy is phenomenal. My dog loves his and he does an exemplary job of grooming. Every associate is friendly and always helpful. They didn't have what we needed but you can request it which is great. I have never seen anything here that wasn't way cheaper on Amazon. Sometimes this location has an item for 2 to 2.5 times more than online. The best part about this location is the animal adoption center, which is technically a different company just operating out of the same space. The vet there, which is also a separate company entirely, I can't say much for, but from what I can tell from my one experience with them is they do not respect the employees on the PetSmart side. As far as grooming I've been a bunch with my dogs but now won't go back after a uselessly complicated experience with Erica the salon manager. I've had better experiences with other PerSmarts, like the one hidden near 1400 N Halsted. When possible now I'm going to get my dogs groomed elsewhere so I can skip the bad attitudes. read more

Brought our yorkie in to be groomed and the groomer scratched his eye during the service. The worst part is no one told us and unfortunately I didn't notice until we got home. We took him to the Vet and they confirmed he had a scratch in his cornea. I contacted Petsmart to let them know this happened and the manager was very apologetic. She promptly refunded the price of the grooming ($50), but the Vet bill was $200. Accidents happen, but no one communicated this occurred and now my dog needs antibiotics and a steroid eye drop for the next week. We have brought multiple dogs to be groomed at this Petsmart and this was the first incident, but it was pretty egregious and we will never use their services again. read more

I took my French bulldog just Wednesday last week 9/28/2022, today not even a week later he smells like he wasn't even bathed I have complained and advised that I feel for the price $66 my dog isn't being cleaned properly . Nothing was done and I'm left unsatisfied after such a costly service . I'm probably going to find a better shampoo facility as something this simple shouldn't be this hard , I paid for a nail grind and a took brush in dditipn to cologne and scarf . Loved the grooming staff!!! Mars did so well with my little bundle of fur. GO MARS!!! Drake came in for a haircut and to get his nails trimmed & she left him just as we discussed. Great communication and super friendly. I've gone to other grooming salons around the area and this one is by far my favorite so far. Everything goes well the first few times I have bought my dog to Petsmart grooming service. They always recommended the Furminator which I thought is a shampoo. They explain it will help with my dog's coat who is a Pomeranian with double coat so I agreed. After many grooming session I noticed my dog's fur appeared not as furry as before and I realized the Furminator they referring to is a deshreding tool not a shampoo (which also called Furminator). That means they never stop deshredding my dog undercoat. At his last visit in February 2022 , my boyfriend informed the groomer name Jimmy that our dog doesn't need the Furminator and Jimmy explained that he couldn't do it and would have to reject our service if we choose to not add on that service. What?! I am paying for a bath and brush and can't he see my dog's body getting bald patches? What is the Furminator for? We are so very lucky to have found this PetSmart. We recently adopted a dog from the shelter 5 months ago and PAWS was offering 100$ back from adoption fees for training. We stumbled upon Rita, who isn't here all the time, but you can meet with the petshotel people or the cashiers to book her classes. We've done beginners, intermediate and advanced with our baby girl. She has improved GREATLY (went from being a 55pound dog that pulled all her might ALWAYS on walks to being able to walk her without a leash). Thoroughly impressed. I love Rita's attentiveness and although sometimes group classes run a bit late or start a bit late we get the most out of it. We've built such a better bond with our little one and any mediocre reviews of Rita, they didn't give her a chance and did not come in with an open mind. Her style can take some getting used to, but she's honest and has the interest of the dog in her heart. We all love her. I never realized how much more there was to teach a dog until we started taking classes with Rita. Also, their graduation ceremonies are so cute! Also $10 pawdicures here are great! Usually you can find same day appointments and you get to watch them with your dog. I love that aspect of grooming because I'm very protective of my dog. read more

We picked up our 9 month old puppy after a long weekend away, and she was covered in her own vomit. We were told when we picked her up (they never reached out to us during the weekend) that she was throwing up due to stress and anxiety. Not only were we not informed about our pet getting sick, they also let her live in her own filth for FOUR days. When we picked her up, she was covered in vomit, severely dehydrated and was not eating. We ended up taking her to the Vet ER that evening for fluids and an infected hot spot she got while she was boarding. DO NOT BOARD YOUR DOG HERE. Took my dog in for a nail grinding this morning and Jimmy did an amazing job. My dog gets really anxious over her paws being touched, Jimmy gave my dog love and patients throughout the whole process. Another staff came up to rub my dogs head during her nail grinding to keep her calm. Before the nail grinding my dog got a mini physical exam which I've never seen someone at petsmart before grooming service. Great experience! read more

I'm sure that people have had bad experiences here (from previous reviews), just like anywhere, but I've been to this location twice and have had a great experience both times...And honestly, if you drove an hour to come to a Pet Smart and then rated it with ONE STAR because "the store was hard to find", you should have graded yourself with one star for being an idiot...lol ‍‍‍ There are always plenty of staff around to answer questions with a pretty good degree of knowledge...Something that you don't see in a lot of big box stores (i.e. Home Depot, Lowe's, any major grocery store chain, Wal-Mart, etc.). Also, I have not seen any of the employees have a bad attitude, which is probably a product of the type of person who works there (i.e. pet lover or someone who loves animals, so they enjoy their job). I brought a mastiff that I'm fostering here for a grooming, and they did a really awesome job, and were very good to him. I'm certain that there are much better places out there, but to basically walk-in and be able to get and appointment for a full bath and grooming for like $65, they earned the $65 in my book. read more

I have taken my baby cats there 3 times to stay. I bought all the packages and the cats were never read a story or did I receive the toys I bought or a daily picture. My cats were so upset that they did not eat and now they are home they are throwing up. Staff extremely rude and the employees are not clean. When I dropped him off, they asked me how I want him to be shaved or any specific style I want to do. I think they did a really good job and I really like the final look. I have a new pet 3 months old I adopted on 10/15/22 from an organization due to the hurricane in Florida. I called PetSmart on canal and talked to customer service in the store, a male guy and asked about Banfield. I found out Banfield is no longer with this particular store. I asked about the grooming, but before he transferred me to grooming department he seemed to be in a hurry and said the word "God ***". I couldn't believe my ears. I started to report him to management but he probably is management. I plan on going to take my new little girl to be groomed and get pet supplies. I will address this matter in person at that store.
