A few months ago I had a horrible experience with Petsmart -- I thought I Yelped but I think I forgot to post my review -- I'm glad that happened because I went back last week-end and -- what a difference! Everyone greeted me, all the sales help asked if they could help me, the store looked great, the whole atmosphere was better and much, much friendlier. So much so, in fact, that I had to see the manager to ask if there was a new manager -- and, there was! Congratulations, folks -- you seem to have gotten it right -- at least on the retail side. I appreciate the changes -- and thank you for the extra effort. read more

The only reason I was unimpressed with this location was the groomers. They told me it would take 2 hours to do the basic shampoo and nail clipping. Mind you the place was empty save for 2 groomers and one dog leashed and waiting to be picked up. They then brought my dog back to the kennel area and there she stayed for 20 minutes. This is my first dog so I am not sure how most groomers run, but I scheduled an appointment and I expected them to take her at that time. I ended up taking her out after the twenty minutes and I don't plan to go back. On a side note, the training we have received there is excellent! we had Erin and she is patient and caring with the dogs and the owners. She also allows you to make up classes, which came in handy. I have talked to other friends that took their dogs to more expensive dog training and they don't get half the stuff you do in the PetSmart training. read more

Felt a store worker really took a lot of time with our questions. When we bought a pet mat that was too big, they were great about the return even when we no longer had the receipt. They suggested some fabulous cat litter, (the worlds best cat litter) after we had spent a lot of time searching for cat litter and also got a great cat box there. read more

Highly recommend their pethotel kennel service Left our dog at the pethotel for the long weekend, we used a different pet kennel previously and our dog was very sick after it and we think he was never fed. So we found this place and eventhough it was more expensive it was so worth it. Why? Its very clean Everything is recorded on camera (so im sure pets are protected from nasty cruelty in other places) They were very nice to us and the dog They fed him his own food we gave them The dog was very happy and very healthy after it They asked us for our papers, we liked this as it showed us that they also check other dogs for current vaccinations They also turned away other vicious dogs while we were there We would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this particular location! The dog was safe, not sick, and very clean and healthy after we collected him! read more

I take my pup to get her nails clipped/ears cleaned/teeth brushed here once a month or so. The groomers have always been very nice and I haven't ever had a problem. They always seem happy to see her! I'll admit, though, she is a pretty tolerant and easy-going dog, so she's definitely not a difficult customer. I signed up for emails and I get coupons for $10 off grooming, which is awesome! The store is pretty well stocked, and there's always someone around to help. And the cashiers at the front are always happy to give out lots of treats! read more

Everyone there looked miserable. Especially "Joy" our "fish expert" she didn't seem to thrilled to sell me a fish. She seemed completely hesitate towards me. My experience there was rather disappointing. read more

this place reminds me of candyland. But the only thing is, is it is all for pets. The bad thing about it is it smells fishy. But that is life. They have the greatest costumer service. But any way. I was walking over there when I heard a bird fly into the window. I ran out side and all that I saw was a hole in the middle with broken glass going around it. i was laughing so hard I was sick when I got home. i feel really bad for that bird I had a good life ahead of it but then it died A horrible death. I cryed right after. read more

I used Petsmart in Fresh Pond for a year to board and put my dog in day camp. I didn't have an issue until over Thanksgiving I got a call from them telling me my dog have been attacked by another dog because "my dog wanted to play and the other dog didnt" (my next question: I thought doggie day camp was for dogs to play, why didn't you pull out the dog that was exhibiting the aggressive behavior" to which they responded "well we separated them but the other dog was signed up for camp" --- ughhh not acceptable). PROBLEM #1: My dog had been bitten straight through his ear, and it cost me over $300 in vet charges. I had expected that the owner of the other dog who had bitten my dog would take on these charges - Petsmart informed me it was MY responsibility. PROBLEM #2: Ok I have to pay for another person's dog with bad behavior problems, so I asked Petsmart if they were not going to allow this dog in future day camps, to which they responded they would CONTINUE to allow this dog in camps, just "watch over it more". Well since they didn't watch that close enough the first time and didn't help cover the costs, they were rude and not understanding, I will not be fooled twice. Check out other dog boarding options, because apparently when my dog got bit they told me "don't worry, it happens all the time"!!!!!! read more

Follow Up - I got in touch with the store manager who was extremely apologetic. She is new to this location and explained that they are working to remedy these problems in the future. I appreciate the response and am willing to give them another chance given the way she handled this. I hope this is an isolated incident and it definitely seems like they are working to correct everything store wide. read more

I took our cockapoo for a very simple grooming, to have her coat trimmed as short as possible all over. The person doing the grooming was kind but the job was terrible. The overall cut is uneven, especially her feet, and on her legs and body, some areas are trimmed to the skin and various areas that were missed altogether look like she's sprouting little bushes of one-inch long furry fountains. Plus, I was charged $7 for "deep coat conditioning" which considering that she was getting her coat trimmed very short, was not only unauthorized but completely unnecessary. The person who groomed her mentioned to me that her harness clips were worn and I should keep an eye on them, and I appreciated that. I immediately went to find a new harness to purchase, and while I was putting the new one on, I noticed how uneven the trim was on her legs and belly. The staff person who was helping me with the harness -- she was very good -- suggested that I take the dog back to the grooming salon so they could do a better job. Under the circumstances, I did not choose to ask them to do a better job, as they had been very busy and the dog had already been there three hours. Plus, I was not confident they could do any better -- it had not been a complicated job. I will never take her there again, and will do all my shopping elsewhere. I have a photo I wish I could add -- no one in their right mind would pay $57 for a clip like our cockapoo came home with. But unfortunately I don't know how to add the photo. read more

Had a horrible experience with PetSmart grooming at the Freshpond store in Cambridge, Mass. I Left my Lhasa Apso there with firm instructions not to clip her hair less than half inch where knotted at the stomach and legs and to groom the remsindsr of her body lightly. Instead, to my horror, our dog's entire body was trimmed as close as possible to the skin with less than a quarter of an inch of hair remaining. When I spoke to the groomer on the phone (our dog had been picked up by someone who was too shocked for words) she said it was too much trouble combing the hair. When I asked why she did not ring me before so drastically departing from my instructions, she said sorry and gave no explanation. The impression she gave me was that she could not be bothered. When I expressed dismay at her incompetence and attitude she said I could speak to the manager and that I should wait while she transferred the call. I waited 10 minutes until it was obvious that she had simply placed me on hold. I hung up, rang the store again and immediately got the manager who was apologetic and offered a free grooming next time with a more experienced groomer. She also said that she would report the groomer to the store manager. There will be no next time for me with this company! One cannot entrust one's dog to a company with such untrained, uncaring and don't-give-a damn workers. Stay away from this ghastly grooming center if you care for your pet. read more

I still remember the day we adopted our dog, Milo. Our emotions ran the gamut from exhilarated to terrified. Could we be good parents to this abandoned pooch? Did we know how much food a dog of his size should eat? We were in panic at the thought of failing this poor dog that desperately needed shelter and care. Without delay, I departed for PetSmart. The staff was welcoming and they answered all of my naïve questions. They provided me with a list of the common items that a new dog owner should purchase, and we walked around the store together until my shopping cart was full -- bed, food, leash, toys, treats, poop bags, etc. In addition to their wide selection of pet supplies, PetSmart also offers an array of services, such as grooming, boarding, and routine veterinary care. Conveniently located in the Fresh Pond Shopping Center, PetSmart has remained our number one destination for all of our pet care supplies. So whether your pet swims, flies, walks, or slithers, PetSmart has everything your pet needs to remain happy and healthy. read more

This is a review for their grooming services. We were there on Friday, January 8 2016 around 2:30-2:45. There was a very beautiful, black, smallish dog being groomed (not sure the breed, a Spaniel maybe?) and the groomer with black hair, black thick glasses with a piercing on her nose (couldn't read her name tag since my eye-sight sucks) was PINCHING the nose of the poor thing and angrily kept saying "stop it, stop it" while trying to lift his/her head so that she can trim the neck area. You could see the pain and discomfort in the dog's eyes. The worst part was that the groomer was doing this while we, customers, were there and she didn't seem least bothered with how she was hurting the dog. So who knows how she treats the animals while there are no customers around. Now, obviously groomers may need to be firm with the dogs to make sure they are groomed right but PINCHING the nose? Seriously WTF lady? How would you like if someone sticked their fingers into your nose and lifted your head when you are at the hair dresser? We had walked in for nail trimming and they seemed to have problems with their system. All that happened while a nice gentleman behind the register named Tim was trying to fix the whatever problem they had. The harsh treatment by the groomer continued while we waited. In the end we walked out NOT because they were having problems with the system BUT because of this cruel lady's treatment of the dog. I also sent an email to PetSmart's customer relations. This was a sad experience for us. Treating a small animal poorly must make her feel big and powerful especially when the dog can't say anything. I really hope the owners of that beautiful animal will read this comment and see how their dog was being treated. I will never buy anything and will never take our Pomeranian to PetSmart again. read more

I went in yesterday to get my dog groomed. I wanted to get my white Lhasapoo a groom with an additional TOP DOG package ( which we never got serviced with). When I went in to the salon the stylist Briana denied the possible hair cuts I wanted for my dog saying she could " TRY".. you cannot try to give someone's child a haircut you either can or can't. After three long hours of waiting for her to finish she barely began ! My dogs head was still went she had shaven off his entire neck and chest area. She said she would have to only rid the harness area when I first came in then come to me about she need to shave this area and that now too! Why didn't she look over my dog before hand to tell me what she might need to do so we could've gone over possible haircuts... my dog looked HIDEOUS!!! I was so pissed off with everyone there. Then she got frustrated with my dog was being aggressive with him on the table because he was scared and crying.. she gave him no treats no comfort she just put him in the back and took on another dog like as if I had another three hours to waste in there. Absolutely dissatisfied, service was terrible both times I've come.. just cause it's a dog supermarket doesn't make them a good groomers. They absolutely suck! I even over heard how they cut another dog in the process of grooming. They weren't even apologetic... FUCK PET SMART IN CAMBRIDGE THEY ALL SUCK read more

After hearing about all the strange "Petco" problems, walking into this Petsmart was a refreshing experience. I had to get one of those "Elizabethan" collars for my dog. I was able to find everything really quickly. They were really nice at the checkout and told me what to do if there was a problem. I feel bad though because I noticed they give people free exchanges or unnecessary refunds often, and I want them to stay in business. Help this new store out and shop there, it's different then the typical chain! read more

Don't waste your time. Just got my dogs nails grinded (or so i thought)..i expressed that i was dissatisfied and nothing was done. It looked like they were barely touched. Waste of $14. Won't be going back. read more

i had my puppy groomed here because they groom in a room with big windows so you can watch. i loved that. but the price tag was $60, which is pretty expensive. not sure i'd go back b/c of the price tag, but they did a great job! i just prefer to spend a little less since my dog requires grooming really frequently. read more

Updated 8/8. Poor customer service. Unwilling to help a paying customer. Unwilling to be helpful other then stare at me. There was zero communication that rabies vaccine expired so after I drove over an hour in traffic I was told my pups could not be cared for because one of the pups had expired rabies test as of yesterday. The staff were extremely unhelpful and just repeated the same information. She didn't offer any remedy and solution or suggestions. It expired within one day and they refused to groom the pug. A 17 pound pug who had a vaccination expire within the past 25 hours. Awfully unhelpful and poor customer service. They could have easily assisted me and recommended other options. I moved on Saturday therefore did not have their rabies information in my back pocket. She was simply unwilling to help me or offer any other solutions probably because I was her last appt for the day and wanted to go home. I am disgusted with behavior and will not be back. At least the Everett location is professional enough to notify you if they don't have an updated copy of a rabies vaccination. Letter will be written to corporate as well. Disappointed, but not surprised by Petsmart. I have taken my two pugs for three grooming visits and it has been a wonderful experience. They are all extremely professional, pleasant and efficient. I used to dread taking them to be groomed at the Petsmart in Everett. I despised it there. The staff were unpleasant, unhelpful and they would have my dogs for over three hours. They would leave still smelling bad and nails were NEVER cut. It was just trashy and unprofessional. But taking them to the Cambridge location has been a breathe of fresh air. I am thankful I decided to try a different Petsmart location. It is like night and day between the two locations. Kudos to Carly and Selina for doing a wonderful job with my pugs! Today, Tim was great as well! read more

This is a review for the pet hotel. We've been bringing our dog there for five years and we've always been impressed. Our pup is happy when we arrive and leave! I feel very safe leaving her there and the staff has been fairly consistent and so they remember us. I would definitely recommend them! read more

Love this Petsmart! I've noticed at other stores, it can depend on when you go and which customer service rep you speak with. The Petsmart in Cambridge, though, is consistently helpful and ready to answer your questions. And if you stick to the sales flyer you can get some good deals. read more

Just watched a young woman (mis)handling a panicked, barking, howling dog in the grooming area by getting right in its face and screaming "that's enough." Everyone in the front half of the store was tense and uncomfortable and trying not to watch, including staff. read more

Grooming Review!! Carly in the grooming department is phenomenal! She has taken care of grooming my Rottweiler since he was 6 weeks old and he's now 1 and rather large. I can tell that she truly has a heart for the animals she takes care of as well as wonderful customer service. My pup is always so excited to see her and I can rest easy knowing he's in good hands that truly love him. read more

I love this Petsmart. PeanutButter goes to 'Doggie DayCamp' once a week here - and at $22 its one of the cheaper places in Boston. The staff are all super friendly and always remember us when we come in. I can tell they love what they do and love the dogs. read more

It is difficult to find a great groomer, specially when you are the new kid on the block. Moved in to Cambridge and tried several groomers. It did not go so well, specially when you tell the groomer "do not touch the tai hair...and the pup comes home wagging what is left. Some groomers in the area would not even let you in "their little group". Well, we ended up in Petsmart asking who was the best groomer for small dogs. To all the Petsmart Groomers, specially Mr. Tim...THANK YOU for taking care of my little dog. :) read more

Used to love them -- when Adrianna was there. Service and responsiveness have gone way down. Our dog was skunked last night -- we spent a horrible sleepless night waiting for all the pet stores to open -- called Petsmart first since they open before Petco -- they said, sure, come in -- we have a skunk dip. Brought our smelly dog right in -- four hours and $50 later, they returned our dog to us, basically as smelly as he was before. I spoke to the manager twice -- each time, she said "It's really the best we can do." I asked if they could try again -- "Sure, but we're booked today -- you can come back tomorrow." Another sleepless night? That's what we are now facing. I am very dissatisfied -- had they told me in advance that the dip might not work, we would have been forewarned -- but we 1) were not, and, 2) now have a dog that is almost just as smelly as it was before we paid $50 and put him through 4 hours of a cage and dips. Just sayin..... Should have tried Petco. read more

I take regularly my dog to the grooming saloon and to the Banfield hospital here and I have always been very happy. Puppy is definitely less happy to go to this place, especially when we get closer to the hotel area. But this place rocks. One event detracted from what has otherwise been neutral, if not positive experiences. After purchasing several big items, I mistakenly left 6 smaller items at the checkout counter. After returning home, i immediately called PetSmart and was told the items would be put aside for me. While no one could find the items when I returned the next day, my complaint is not about that. Rather, It was the rude, challenging and impatient behavior of the man who was called to assist me. I felt so rushed and flustered by this man, I failed to retrieve one of the items...which I will not go back for lest I be formally labeled a miscreant. read more

I am very impressed with the knowledgeable service here. I have a sick goldfish and Jeff, in fishes, helped me by suggesting a garlic cure. He also had great advice for fixing what I thought was a broken filter wheel. He seemed very schooled (forgive the pun, it just slipped out) in what he does, with real experience. He didn't make a sale today, but I left feeling very loyal to this store! read more

I brought my maine coon cat here for a lion cut (which I had never heard of before but knew I had to do something for him since he was matted everywhere!) and I was so impressed I just made a yelp account so I could give them a great review. My cat is notoriously squirmy and whiny whenever I try to groom him, so I didn't think they would be able to do anything with him, but I was dead wrong! They did a great job shaving his body down, and leaving the fur on his head, tail, and legs, just like I requested. They didn't nick him even once ( I would have allowed a couple nicks considering how much he squirms!) He came home happy, more affectionate than ever, and mat-free. They even trimmed up the hair around his face and his paws. He looks beautiful. I wanted to give them a tip but wasn't sure if that was acceptable. Thank you Petsmart groomers, whoever you are, for doing a beautiful job with my kitty and making my life so much easier! read more

i sent my dog for grooming two weeks ago with one of the staffs , Brianna. the styling was good but i was not happy with her charging me more when i told her to keep the hair short on the body and long on the legs. she told me there is additional $17charge for that but i never had paid extra for asking for a certain style at other places. i didnt wanna argue and said ok. then she asked me to come back in two and half hour later which i did.when i was there it took another hour for her to finish her job. while waiting i saw she was impatient and unfriendly to my dog because my dog kept looking at my direction ! when the grooming was done and i was paying i was asked to pay another $17 extra because she said the hair on my dog's leg was tangle and took longer time for her to do her job. i was mad because i had been having my dogs for almost 5 years and been always sent for grooming. if there is tangles the stylist will let me know first when i asked for certian style before they charged. she charged me extra twice for something i never had to pay before ! what is this ?? read more

We normally go to unleashed in Allston but we wanted to make a quick stop to look at maybe buying a new jacket for our Boston terrier ended up not find the right thing but found a cute collar my husband picked the smallest size and before leaving the parking lot I ran in to exchange it for the next size up. All tags were there but this guys told me even still I needed the receipt... Of course you know how it is you pay and misplace the receipt. I have a pals card I asked if he could look it up he bluntly told me no.. What's the point of the card then! I agree with some of the reviews that the employees must not care about there jobs or the people that go there. He proceeded to take down all of my information off of my ID! Who does that! And not even apologize or explain anything or talk for that matter... If you want friendly helpful people who love animals and there job go to unleashed in Allston instead. read more

I've groomed my 10 lb dog here for several years. The groomers are all very nice, and he gets a decent grooming. Today, however, I had a different experience. I had an 11:30 appointment, and his grooming usually takes 2 - 2 1/2 hours. At 2:30, I hadn't gotten the call, but needed to pick up kids from school, so I headed over, figuring he was almost done. When I go there, he was still on the table, and it seemed like he was breathing hard. After a few minutes, he threw up. I poked my head in to see what was up. They told me it was the second time he threw up, and that it would be another 20 minutes - they were running more like 4 hours because of the holidays (would have been nice to know beforehand). I needed to get the kids, so a manager (I'll leave her name out, because I am not that mean) promised me that they would take him to the back to the small dog play group and NOT put him in a cage, since it seemed he was traumatized by something today. I returned about an hour later, only to find he had been put into the cage 35 minutes earlier, and never taken to the back. NEVER AGAIN, PetSmart! read more
