I was shopping for an upgraded aquarium. I was at the chinook location. I had a few questions about different things, tank, tank wrap, and aquarium plants as well. This very nice lady ANY in the fish dept. She was very helpful and she helped me with getting a flat deck cart and load it on cart (29 gallon ) we did together every one was busy. Deny taking second payment. Sent screenshots of account and they tell me to talk to my bank, in which my bank says to talk to merchant. They're a joke and theft is high in their books. DO. NOT. Unlike some on here, I have had nothing but good experiences here. In comparison to Petland, the prices are far superior, and as well the cats and dogs here for adoption are from animal shelters, not puppy mills or breeders. This store is always clean, the staff always ask if you need assistance and it is clear that the staff enjoy working with animals and sharing the knowledge they have. Make sure you get a Petperks card, this will represent significant discounts on dozens of products at any given visit. There is a huge selection of foods, toys, accessories and just about anything you would need for your pet. I always get a kick out of watching the dogs getting groomed at the front of the store. Some of them seem to really enjoy it! read more

Grooming centre is HORRIBLE. I had booked my dog in 4 days in advance specifies a bath and a face trim(which takes five minutes) I drive almost a half hour to get there only for the useless groomer to tell me she doesn't have time to trim my dogs face as she sat their sipping her coffee staring at the computer. The chick had no empathy, told me to get lost. Talked to the manager and even he agreed that in the time she argued with me she could have trimmed his face. After all this I had to leave because the useless groomer wouldn't change her mind. We had our 1 year old cavapoochon groomed here early August by Ashley. I am very disappointed in the groom for several reasons; his cut was nearly a total shave despite us requesting a longer cut. Our puppy is brushed nightly so there were no tangles to substantiate this decision. His nails were not all trimmed with her reasoning being he was biting and it was unsafe. Our pup has never bitten nor attempted to bite! Further to these concerns he was traumatized when I returned for pickup. I will definitely not be returning our pup for a groom here!! read more

This is pretty much the only pet store I visit in Calgary nowadays. I love this location. I'm addicted to the Rollover brand of treats/bones - my dog adores them. I also get both my pets' foods from this store. I like that they carry both brands that are found in the supermarket as well as some higher-end brands. The staff is extremely helpful. When I'm staggering around under the weight of both my cat and dog food bags, the staff never fails to stop and ask me if they can bring something to the till for me, whether a 20-year-old male or a woman the same age as my mother. They are always willing to answer questions. The return policy is great, and they stand by their products. I've heard good stories about products not living up to expectation and of the store fixing the issue to the best of their ability. I also took puppy obedience with my dog here and can highly recommend the program. It was competitively priced and taught me all the essential skills on how to train my dog (don't be fooled... obedience classes are mainly to train the human, not the dog). I think it's best to think of this as the Walmart of pet supplies. You should never buy a reptile from them. It is best to go to JJ's reptiles or riverfront aquariums for reptiles as they actually specialize in them and know how to properly care for them. Also cat and dog food should never be bought here as they do not carry one healthy choice for either. However if you need clothes, litter, accessories, supplies or toys for your animal than this place is perfect. The service in the fish area is usually slow if anyone else needs something too. The rest of the service at petsmart is nice enough. Sometimes the cashiers are fun and friendly. If petsmart starts to carry proper cat and dog food I will add a star. Cats need grain free high protein food such as Origen, GO, arcana and so on. read more

I love this location. The staff are always helpful and I can always find what I am looking for. Recently I went in looking for something to help an itchy dog. They took the time to ask me really good questions and didn't try to just offer the most obvious solution. The wanted to understand what would work best with my dog based on his preferences. They ended up suggesting something that has worked very well that also wasn't the most expensive option they had. I've noticed the staff seem to stay working there a long time which is an indication that its a well run business. I've used their grooming facilities as well and they were excellent. Who wouldn't want their dog to smell like a sugar cookie 3 days before Christmas!!?? I also really like how they work with local rescue agencies to find forever homes for dogs and cats who need them. read more

I usually go to the Pet Smart on 130th Ave. I was surprised yesterday walking into this store about how much more clean and organized it is compared to the 130th one. Even the lighting seems to be better. The selection was great. They had all of the sizes in everything I looked at for my pup. I find other stores in general will be missing the medium and large sizes in many things and will only have the really small or really large sizes. XS and XL doesn't work for my Boston. There didn't seem to be any staff around, but the cashier was very friendly. read more

I find Petsmart to be the best one stop shop for my cats. They have a huge selection of food, litter and accessories to pick from and have a great return policy. I've never had an issue returning anything. They also have great sales if you keep an eye out. read more

Anyone who knows me is aware that I don't like to support giant chain stores. I do my best to support local businesses in the small hamlet I live in however, it's a little bit more difficult out in the city. The day that we visited Petsmart we were actually picking up a hamster for our six-year-old daughter. We spent about an hour and a half looking in the smaller towns but nobody sold them. I have to say that this is a pretty decent one stop shop. I wouldn't go here for food for my cats or dogs however. It's gigantic and they pretty much always have everything in stock. They also have grooming which usually looks busy so they must be decent at least. The other thing that beats out the smaller businesses is that their hours are a little bit easier to get along with. Not everybody is available midday. Won't make a habit of coming here however, in a pinch and after general business hours it's a good place to go for supplies. read more

I had picked up my puppy from boarding nearby this location and stopped over for a puppy grooming. 1) The puppy grooming packages (less than 6 months) are very reasonable at $19 2) The young lady (Kayla K) who took care of Bentley was kind, sincere and gentle; as if he were her own. She educated me on the process, told me how long it would take since it was his first groom and that they would not rush him through it. 3) She accommodated him even though we did not have a booking (could have been a one-off though) so would recommend booking in advance. I thoroughly appreciated the care they took with both him and me and he looked GREAT when he was done. I would definitely return to this location. I hope everyone there is as great as Kayla was. Also to review the store: this is the best Pet Smart location I have been to in Calgary in terms of size and quantity of items available. Awesome job! My two pugs shed like nobody business. The groomer brushed our pugs out very well with no stray hair after the fact. They are also so soft and fluffy. I also love that they wrote a report stating exactly what they did, they also put these cute bandannas on them. I really recommend them. read more

For some reason I keep going back to petssmart for my dog's grooming even though I'm never satisfied with the result. I'm not sure why they even ask how I would like my maltipoo's hair cut because they never do what I ask and she always ends up with the weird "visor" look. Beware that if your dog has even ONE mat, the groomers will make you feel like the first pet owner on the planet. The last time I took my maltipoo in, she had a few little mats on one of her back legs and the manager told me they would have to shave her ENTIRE body because it was too much work to de-mat her. I couldn't believe how rude and condescending she was. When I tried to use common sense on her (i.e. that it made no sense to shave a dog in winter when the 2 or 3 mats could easily be brushed out), she tried to tell me my dog BIT one of the groomer's last time, clearly just trying to get rid of me. I've never seen my dog so much as growl in her 3-year life. After I argued with the manager about the "matting" issue, she said she would try to spot shave the back leg but that my dog would probably look weird afterwards. I gave in and just asked that they do their best. When I came back 3 hours later, apparently they had decided to do the de-matting, but then charged me an extra $10 without ever telling me that was a possibility. I didn't argue about it, but I'll never go back. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

K, bought a cornsnake there. I've owned snakes pretty much my whole life so it's not like I'm some newbie. It didn't eat, it bit constantly and they charged me $120 not even knowing what the colour was of it... calling it a "fancy" cornsnake... when infact it would be called a normal type. They were keeping it in a small cage with no hide or heat in one of the back rooms. When I asked about heating I was told that they turned all the heat sources off at night... even for some of the tropical and desert species... WRONG! They didn't question as to whether I had any of the proper equipment at home. When I went to return the snake, they said they couldn't give me cash but could give me a store credit or an exchange. I said I'd look at the other snake. It had escaped. And they couldn't find it. Then when I was chatting with the main care guy of the store he told me that they were feeding these baby snakes 4 pinkies at a time! and they were feeding the ball python (who was of a good size) a "cup full of pinkies" because they weren't allowed to feed animals with hair. Not only that, but their snake cages were right beside the rodent cages. NO BRAINS MUCH! read more

What a disappointment! I went here to buy some pet food because their website showed that they were having a sale, but to my surprise, the sale price was nowhere near what their website listed. So I asked about it. And I was told that the website was American. Except that the site I visited was petsmart.ca! Again I was told that it was an "American website". What gives? Even if the Canadian site defaults to the American website, they're still one company and they should honour their advertised prices. Or fix their website. We've taken our dog to their grooming salon for a couple of years and have tolerated rude staff, cancelled appt's because the scheduled groomer didn't show up and being told they weren't a daycare when we were 15 minutes early for our appt only because they are the closest groomers to our house. I finally had enough when we went to drop our dog off and one of their staff, Tammy, in a rude tone told me that I was told to bring our dogs rabies papers when we booked the appt because their computers were down which I was not told. Easily done as both our dogs are up to date on their vaccinations. When I mentioned that it wasn't mentioned to me her was response was that EVERYONE was told and that she wasn't responsible as she didn't book my appt. Never again will I have my dog groomed there. read more

I stopped in at Pet Smart yesterday to pick up some feed. This store had been rearranged since my last visit, I entered the store and cruised to my usual aisle on autopilot only to discover the feed I wanted had been moved. Eventually I found the feed aisle and studied my options only to discover some of the pricing was missing. I'm all for deal and everyone knows the bigger the bag the better the price. The question in my mind was whether or not the savings justified lugging around bigger bags. To make a long story short I couldn't find anyone to tell me the pricing. It seems to me that if you go to the trouble of setting up a retail store and expect people to buy products then you should also be prepared to reveal the prices. I may or may not return. I can get what I want at UFA, probably at a better price with less aggravation. read more

I took my lab cross for a bath, brushing, nail trim, etc there today and what a great experience. They groomer was really great and understanding, knowing that this was her first time being groomed and was previously abused by her owners and may have had some touch issues. The service was quick and my dog came home smelling great, nails really nicely trimmed, way less shedding and even with a little "report card" type brochure of how she did. Aside from the grooming, we frequent this location for treats and toys as well. The staff is always friendly and takes the time to make sure you're taken care of and to say hello to your dog. Would definitely recommend this location for any pet care needs. read more

Do NOT place an online order in this store. I have done this twice, and when I went to pick up, I was left standing at the cashier, waiting for somebody to help me. First time I left the store and when I wasn't refunded in 7 days, I called and they refunded me. This time, I called, and they told me I have to come back to the store because they cant refund me without my presence. I said you want me to come back and be left standing there with no service!? What an inconvenience. I placed an online order thinking it would be easier to pick up and instead the customer is left standing without help. I have been using the Petsmart pet saloon. Because I have just needed to groom them every 4 to 5 months each time. My cats used to come hurted with their niples red from the machine blades. I have understood evry time,because they explain, that cats are impantient and move lots. Although on the last visit (May 28th, 2013) on the Petsmart across from the Chinook Center Mall my two cats got back home with flea. I called them to explain that my cats never leave home other than go to their saloon, but talking with one of their employees and the manager on duty I got an impression that they really care about their clients nethier the pets, which they groom. They explicite that they' ve never gotten one single case of flea on their clinic. Sounds very impressive, but anyways. If one day your pets needs to be groomed don't bring over there. Are there big chances that your pet is going to get hurt or infected by something. By the way, I just read a yahoo review about a dog, which dies on their saloon. read more

GROOMING INJURY ALERT. On July 3rd I took my medium sized dog to Petsmart to be groomed. When I picked him up he was shaken and nervous and ran for the car. He was exhibiting pain in his left hindquarter. I took him home to observe and this confirmed that he was injured in his left back leg. He exhibited lack of appetite and favouring his left hindquarter for the next 2 days. A trip to my Vet resulted in him being manually checked for range of motion in case there was a fracture. The vet could clearly see he was favouring his left hindquarter and biting at his left back leg. The vet suggested he was not symptomizing for a fracture and sent me home with pain meds and further observation. 2 days later he was not showing signs of improvement and was constantly chewing at his left hind leg and foot. A second visit to the vet resulted in a round of x-rays. No fractures were found, but the vet suggested either soft tissue damage or a sprain. He was given a cone and more pain meds. After the first vet visit I called Petsmart and spoke to Tammy the Grooming Manager and then Kayla his groomer. The groomer said nothing out of the ordinary happened except that he had tried to jump off the grooming platform and she claims she caught him. A second call thereafter to the grooming Manager and then store Manager Matt resulted in Matt telling me that his sources told him that my dog left the salon exhibiting no signs of injury and that I should have brought him back immediately if he was injured. My first priority was to take him home to an environment he was comfortable in to assess him, not to take him back to the groomers. Here is what I know. I took my dog to the grooming centre healthy and collected an injured dog. Petsmart will accept no liability for this event. In addition to the initial grooming cost I incurred $400.00 in vet bills as a result. I will never grace the doors of any Petsmart ever again. read more

I took my dog to get groomed just after Christmas. The two employees who I talked to before I dropped her off seemed to be totally overwhelmed and unsure of how to proceed even stating that they didn't know why we were getting her groomed. That is when I should have turned around and walked away. When we came to pick her up I paid while my husband took her to the car. When I got to the car and looked at her she looked exactly like she did when I dropped her off. Her scent was decidedly dirty feet smell. I had even paid an extra $8 for additional conditioning. I should have just put the $50 in the garbage rather than waste almost 3 hours of our time. To top it off she was freaked out and trembled all the way home. I did an online survey with PetSmart to tell them how displeased I was and they didn't even bother responding. I would NEVER recommend this facility to anyone. If you get the urge to take your dog here, just shred your money instead. You'll feel better! read more
