I brought in my dog for a bath & brush. She's a beagle and didn't need a haircut, only a pad shave and a nail trim. After her appointment she was itching uncontrollably and I just figured she had an allergic reaction to the shampoo they used. So I gave her a bath with anti itch shampoo. After looking at her skin, I found several red inflamed scabs and bumps & one of her nails was red with puss. This was her first time at the groomers and I will not be bringing her here again. read more

I am incredibly upset with the grooming my bichon poodle received. I asked that they trim his hair and 3 hours later I came to find they had completely shaved my dog. In addition the trimming of his ears was uneven. The poor thing doesn't even look like the same dog he's shaved to the skin. I had to come home and immediately fix his ears bc they were so uneven. We had the worst experience. And as some of the other reviews (which i now read for the first time) stated, I wish this could be a zero star. When we got to the Brooklyn downtown Atlantic Avenue location, Cameron met us with a very blasé unfriendly look. My dog, Betty, who is the sweetest, kindest, most beautiful little girl, exhibited immediate fright. She is normally super friendly but had her tail between her legs and was shaking the minute we got there. I thought that was odd, given the treats and that we were at a fun pet store. I want to kick myself for not picking up on this, but my sweet dog, was petrified. We got the premium package (over 150 dollars) and I asked how long it would take. She said 2-3 hours. I thought that was long but said, "ok" and she said, they would give us a 20 minute heads up to come get her. We heard from her 1 hour later. She said "don't bring your dog here again on a weekend and make sure next time, you click express checkout." I asked what she was talking about. And she said , that she finished betty and went on her smoking break and locked her in the kennel and they don't watch the dogs when they go on breaks and when she came back an hour or so later, Betty was crying and trying to break out of her kennel cage, and had bloodied her paws. It was my fault, she said, because I didn't click "express check out" Of course, I did not know that they take the dogs into a place where no one can see them, lock them in a cage and go to smoke for hours. When we found our dogs she, she was bleeding and terrified. This was the worst experience since we rescued her. Do not go here if you love your pet. read more

Made an online purchase using their in-store pickup option. A complete waste of time! The sole purpose of in-store pickup is the convenience of NOT waiting in line. Walked into the store and asked an employee about my item, she told me to wait in-line behind the 12 customers lined up waiting to pay. After waiting for almost 25 minutes in line the cashier asked to see my id, went to get my online order and had me sign the print out order sheet. Couldn't the associate that I spoke to take 2 minutes of her time to do that for me? Why tell me wait in line to pick up my online purchase? read more

I'm new to the whole being a pet parent thing but it all started at this PetSmart so I'm rather fond of this spot. I adopted my new cat here thanks to A Tail at a Time, the charity organization partnered with this location. First of all, A Tail at a Time is a wonderful organization full of incredible volunteers who care for their rescued kittens like gold. Their love for these cats is not only contagious it's down right inspiring. Once I had adopted my sweet little guy, the folks from A Tail at a Time walked me around PetSmart and helped me select some starter items for my new best friend. Naturally, PetSmart had everything I needed to help my new cat settle into my home. I was able to pick up all the basics and a few fun toys to celebrate his new forever home too. There were plenty of good sales going on as well so I was able to snag some decent prices on litter, a little box and basic carrier. Admittedly, online prices are often better, both at PetSmart's site and other websites too. But with Petsmart's website you can still take advantage of their online deals in store by ordering in-store pick up. Also, the petperks rewards plan is a decent way to save some dollars too. When I first signed up I got a ten dollar thank you coupon that I happily used on a return trip to stock up on litter. The customer service here has been really great too. Everyone I've met there has been especially kind and generous including offering to let me take the shopping cart out of the store so I could get everything to my car in one trip and not rushing me at the counter when I was hefting a very big bag of litter, and letting me hover a little too long at the cats' windows when I was first thinking about adopting and became a tad obsessed with the one particular cat that I eventually did end up adopting. I am very grateful for their kind smiles and side glances as I made several visits to my little guy's window. And when I was able top official adopt him, some PetSmart folks celebrated with me! All in all, it's a reliable store with decent sales, good staff, and a great partnership with one of the best cat rescue/adoption charities in the city. read more

The first time I brought my dog to this PetSmart location to be groomed, the employee on duty was not paying attention and his eye was scratched by another dog who had been left unattended with him. That day, we spent the afternoon in the Banfield area of the store instead of at the groomers :/. (To be fair, Banfield gave us eye medicine and checked in on him and care was "on the house"...as it should have been). For this reason alone, we decided to come back to try again with the understanding that sometimes these things happen with pets... although it had been a rather unpleasant experience. This last time, the groomer tried to upsell us on bigger packages, trying to guilt us into giving an extra 40$ or so bc our dog REALLY needed extra conditioner (so she "wouldn't have to brush the dog") and nail filing (apparently his "veins are too long".) When my gf told Crystal, the groomer, that she had never heard that his veins were too long from any veterinarian or other grooming professional, she ignored it and just told her that cutting his nails wouldn't be sufficient and that we NEEDED to get the nail filing add on. Even when my gf explained to her that we would not be paying for any add-ons and instead wanted to go ahead with the basic grooming package, she continued to try to upsell us on whitening shampoo,filing and conditioner, as well. I come here to get my new baby Benji checked out, buy some food and toys for him. My baby chihuahua Benji loves this place. Everyone knows him once he walks in cause he super hyper active. They give him treats and lots of kisses. The doctors who work there are very nice and takes very good care of him when he comes for his monthly check ups. He didn't even cry when they gave him his shots, which is very surprising cause the needle was super big, I almost fated. They email and call me to inform me of his next appointment and are very professional. The employees there are very helpful as well, they offered me the puppy package which gives me discounts on supplies for him when ever i need to purchase anything for him. I called a week ahead to book my appointment for my cat and dog to get groomed. I get there and the women told me that my appointment was only for my cat and it was an hour ago. So I told the girl that my appointment was at 12:30 for both animals. She insisted that it was for 11:15, which was her employees error. She didn't seem to care. Anyway she says she can groom my dog and not my cat, so I said fine. The groomer comes over and told me that my dog has Matts in the back of his legs. His total was going to be $90 for grooming! She also told me she was gonna cut him really short by his legs but yet was charging me for de-matting. Which makes no sense... I've gone to places that really know what they're doing and give great hair cuts and don't charge that much. This place seems to just have anyone work there which is sad. The girl in the front that asked me about my appointment seemed intoxicated, like she was high. So many things were telling me to just leave and never go back. Totally unacceptable I just moved back to this neighborhood so I thought I would try them out, but what a mistake I wouldn't advise for anyone to bring there animals to get groomed there. My dog had an appointment for a bath and brush with the grooming salon. I was called and asked to bring him in early. I arrived at 5:18 exactly with in 10 mins I was called saying his bath was completed which was a little baffling because I believe the bath alone takes longer than that. Upon arrival back to the store I asked Michelle, who was the groomer at this time, was his glands expressed and nails clipped, her response was yes. Further examining my puppy he hadn't been washed nor nail clipped nor glands expressed, he was only sprayed with cologne and blow dried. I have entrusted this store with my baby on several occasions and the is so disheartening to believe you are getting a service and good care for a family member to find out it is all a lie. Really grateful for this vet fitting me in twice for same day emergency. It can take awhile to finish visit, but they do everything they can to see your pet gets care they need. Prices are a little high but I'm sure average to most. However the pet plans help reduce the cost usually. They are also good with accommodating travel forms for your pet. I don't like reviewing big national chains because each chain has a specific expectation (eg: you go to a MacDonalds and complain about quality...why?), so I would really only do it if my experience was great or really poor. This PetSmart location is pretty stellar. I'm supposing like most of the other locations, they adequately stock their stores with plenty of whatever pet needs people have. Specifically for me, they have many, many premium and non-premium dog toys, treats, and food. More importantly here, though, the people are great. A sales associate has not walked by me browsing the aisles without asking me if I needed help looking for something in particular (but not in a nosy way). When we first bought puppy essentials, the cashier was smart enough to realize it and offered their (I forget what it's really called, but it's like a) starting puppy coupon book which ended up saving us a lot of money. We probably could have saved more if we kept up with it, but it's been misplaced somewhere. Anytime I bring the pups in, everyone has been very sweet and loving, and they get spoiled with treats at the registers (after they politely ask if it's okay they give them a few, of course). read more

DO NOT GO! Waited around with the many other 8AM appointments for someone to open up the store. Only asked for a bath, along with the package including nail filing and bandana, etc...he took THREE hours, were no help over the phone on telling us why he was taking so long, just to pick him up without ANY hair - an uneven haircut even (not to mention no bandana or anything else that we paid for). They shaved our dog because of a few mats, but did not bother to even check with us to see if that was okay or not (plus, you can work out the mats and just charge extra at any other groomer...) None of the stylists were taking us seriously and just kept brushing us off. Needless to say we got the haircut that we didn't even ask for for free (ha) and that was it. Never ever again. I took my dog Momo to this PetSmart for grooming yesterday. I've booked a grooming appointment online and selected the $49 grooming service. The groomer decided to add the 'add on' service without asking me and I ended up having to pay for an extra $22 for the grooming service. I also am not happy with the hair cut as my dog missing a big chuck of his hair between his eyes. I think it's extremely important for the staff to communicate with the customers beforehand and not to add random charges at the end. No one likes this kind of surprises. I'm definitely not going back to Petsmart for grooming and will go back to Nency in Jackson Heights. She's way cheaper and did a much better job! read more

Parking is hell. Grooming is awesome. Been taking my yorkie Jake to see Lisa for a couple of years and she's great. My pup is very anxious and bitey when he first meets people which of course gives me major anxiety. But Lisa is a pro, scooped him right up and they've been friends ever since. She's kind and takes her time, great groomer. Fast forward to last month; Lisa is out on maternity leave and I begin to feel the dread again. Luckily, there's Crystal.. he doesn't bite her when she picks him up, good sign. I leave praying for the best. OMG. This girl is a fucking artist. SO precise, not a hair out of place. Did exactly what I asked for. Hands down best groom of his life. He walked out of there like a boss and we got compliments all the way home. So sad that we are moving out of NYC =/ read more

4.5 stars... As much as I appreciate the ultra friendly mom and pop pet stores (like Love Thy Pet), their selections and prices just can't compete with giant chains like Petco and Petsmart. This Petsmart had a great selection of pet products (especially for dogs and cats), and at prices that were amazing. I almost never find prices better than Amazon but they actually beat them on most products. Even better is that they have membership cards (free, like a CVS card) and you can save even more with sale products. The place is very spacious and clean and also features grooming services, adoptions (very limited), and classes. In terms of cat stuff, they have just about every food (especially canned) you can imagine, even the prescription stuff that you can normally only get from a vet. Their litter options are also dirt cheap, I picked up a 25lb box of Fresh Step for $11.49. When I was there I only saw two people working. One looked like someone stole his soul but the other was quite friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be coming back for all my future pet needs. read more

I come here for all my pet needs. A large clean store conviently located on Atlantic Ave, they have everything you could need for your furry friend at discount prices. The cat food I buy is often on sale. Make sure to get their store card so you can take advantage of all their discounts. Even if you leave it at home you can use your phone number once you are signed up so you are all good. They have the cutest kittens in cages in the front of the store so you are always tempted to get another one. They do grooming for dogs as well. I have been a very loyal customer to this location until recently. About two weeks ago I got harassed by another customer, I was concerned and approached an employee about the situation. The employee literally grunted while I got harassed for no reason and walked away . Short story about incident. There was a girl at the entrance unloading her bag, I walked around her since her belongings were on the floor. I walked around her,... I walked around her not to step on her belongings for that she yelled at me, apparently I was looking at her and got cursed at. Today another employee disrespected me while I was paying. I was very nervous about bringing my tiny puppy to a big chain store for his first grooming experience. I read horror stories about pets being cut, burned and otherwise maimed in the news and observed the attitude of groomers at their competitor's stores when I'd ask them questions. The hot weather and his facial whiskers starting to partially obscure his vision made it a necessity. I took my sister's dog to a local groomer weeks before and the experience was underwhelming, so I didn't want to go that route again. I was immediately at ease when I stepped into the salon. The staff was cheerful and friendly and the booker immediately wanted to cuddle my little guy. They do all their work (except for the bathing) out in the open and you meet the groomer who will be caring for your pet so you can talk to them. Also important, I wasn't overwhelmed by the smell of heavy pet perfumes. They gave me a 3-4 hour window, but I decided to hang around in the store and shop. I could hear my little guy whining, but he was already getting nervous about being so I don't hold that against them. I also don't hold the not-so-terrific face cut against them becasue I'm sure he wasn't fully cooperating. It was assymetrical and much closer to his face on one side, but not unflatteringly so. I told them I didn't want him shaved but cut down to about and inch but I wasn't specific about his facial hair. I just told her to do something about the hair near his eyes and she did what I asked. They were done with him in 2 hours but had to rebathe him because he pooped himself, so I still had to wait a little for him. He wasn't happy with the experience but not traumatized by it either. My puppy smelled great and looked so shiny afterwards with no injuries and no worse for the wear. He no longer looks like my cuddly teddy bear, but I can live with it if it means he'll be more comfortable over the summer. I will definitely go back in the future. It is worth mentioning that parking is a challenge in that area, their suppply of small dog toys was insufficient and that I ended up paying more than the advertised price because I wanted his body hair cut as well as his face and legs (I was informed of the price difference right away before they started and I agreed to it). read more

I have been to this location several times and I've never had a problem. They have a large selection of everything from clothing, toys and especially food. The fact that they have a vet and a groomer on the premises is awesome. However, today I sent my husband in to take my small Maltese for grooming. They said it would take 3 to 4 hours and explained she had knots in her hair so the process would take longer. Which I completely understood. I got a phone call at home that they had finished but they had to almost practically shaved my dog and they cut her ear by mistake. As a pet parent I was already upset. I went in very calm to get my puppy. And when I saw her I honestly almost cried. My poor girl looked like she had been butchered by scissors. Her ear looked as if they took a chunk off, that possibly will never grow back. My puppy latched on to me as if she had been tortured and she was so cold I had to purchase a sweater to keep her warm. They did apologize and I was not charged (not that I was going to pay anyway) but if you have pets you will understand my pain after seeing my baby that way. The only reason I'm giving any stars is because the store itself had no fault in this. But the groomer on the other hand would get a big fat zero from me. read more

Great hours! Convenient location! Good prices and great product selection! Grooming here is easy and fairly affordable. One time they shaved my dog's face too close and it got a bit red, but other than that, they do a pretty good/thorough job. The retail staff is almost always very friendly and helpful. They always say hi to my dog and give him treats, and it's nice to know they seem to genuinely like pets. Plus, my dog loves the store. Not sure what else you need from a Petsmart. read more

As a Brooklynite I feel an ingrained sense of guilt when I frequent a big brand chain store because there are so many independently owned boutiques to patronize and help thrive, it's part of what makes Brooklyn so unique and great. So, it was with the aforementioned guilt that I found myself at this location the very night my husband and I rescued our new dog. Before hitting Petsmart, I had been to two local to Crown Heights and non-chain pet supply shops but they did not have dog crates (our pooch was crate-trained during her foster care so this was a necessity). Not only did Petsmart have a range of crates (both style and size) but I was amazed with the customer service. The gentleman helping me walked me through their options (not at all pushy) and when I expressed concern about choosing the wrong size, he reassured me about their return/exchange policy. Luckily the crate was perfect, the harness and collar I bought were not however. And I can testify that returning the ill-fitting items was a piece of cake. I walked in and exchanged and walked out. Added bonus: Petsmart will honor their online prices, which are almost always at least a few dollars less than the in-store tag. Just ask! read more

I had one of the worst experiences ever at this location Monday 12/21/20 around 7:30. The girl in the aquarium section was unprofessional & unknowledgable. First she seemed bothered that someone is in her section looking around so she abruptly asks "can I help you?" So I reluctantly ask if they have any Killifish she replies "no, we only sell cichlids here" (that's wrong). So after looking a bit I decide on 2 blue gouramis. I say I'll take those 2 gouramis. She says "which ones?" I was a bit confused because there were only 2 gouramis in the whole section. I tell her the blue ones. She says with an attitude "those aren't rams those are gouramis". Again confused I say yes, like I said 2 of those gouramis. This is a Monday b4 a Tuesday/Wednesday restock so there's not that many fish in the tanks and NO RAMS in sight. With an atitude she begins to go back and forth with me about what I said not even thinking there's a possibility she heard wrong through I don't know, maybe me and everyone else wearing a covid mask. She said "anything else" now knowing maybe this girl is hard of hearing or just doesn't care I purposely took my 2 fingers and pointed to the tank and said I'll take 2 white skirt tetras TOUCHING THE TANK. She starts getting all the fish with an attitude water splashing everywhere. She gives me the bag and disgusted I just head to the cashier. The cashier who was very friendly rung me up and I just headed home. When I get home there's only 1 white skirt tetra. If this person is hard of hearing maybe she should've said just said that. But the attitude just reeked of Its cleaning time and I don't want to be bothered there's only an hour & half left until I punch out. At any rate I won't be back here or any other PetSmart. This review is for grooming only. I have taken my Standard Poodle here a few times over the past couple of years. The first time was super fantastic, but the rest was spotty. It's really hard to get consistent service here as the groomers here don't stick around for that long. From what I've seen on their hiring info, it looks like on the job training starting from washer to apprentice to groomer. So after they learn the grooming trade they go on to greener pastures. This past groom today will be the last time I bring my doggy here. I was very specific about what I wanted done, keeping the hair on her ears long, and they were cut pretty short. They were not matted on top, just a bit grubby from getting in the food this morning. It was unwelcome creative license. I had to shag them up a bit when I got home to make them look less poodle-y in that obnoxious UES kind of way. The time before this last groom I asked for her muzzle to be trimmed the same length as her the rest of her coat. The groomer gave her a teddy bear looking muzzle because she thought it looked "cute". More creative license. Sorry lady, my dog/my choice. Another groomer fixed it and I got a call from the original groomer apologizing, but still. And they used to do de-matting for extra $$, but the last few times I was there they didn't want to be bothered. Also, my dog was visibly terrified when I dropped her off today which could have been a red flag. She never was scared of her groomer in Philly who she saw for the first 7 years of her life. I think this is because she hates to have her nails trimmed and they always cut them on the short side. Maybe they cut a vein in a claw there in the past? Don't know. Soooo....this place isn't the best, but it isn't the worst either. They are cheap by comparison to other places in the area and they always have openings. And they answer the phone! To wrap up...this place is great for a quick wash, but leave the actual grooming to someone who really knows what they are doing. You get what you pay for! read more

It's a tough call whether to spend kitty's dollars at a local and independent pet store with a slightly smaller selection of Science Diet and pay almost 25% more or pay a lot less and get everything I need at the big box store so I do both. This location is pretty big, not terribly busy and the management is very friendly and helpful. Always gotta do the drive-by near the cat adoption center too. Most of those furry guys couldn't give two little turds about you but damn they're cute. read more

I went to PetSmart to have my newly adopted rescue cat bathed and have her nails trimmed. It was with good intentions but my poor cat was scared to say the least. Let's just say they had to cut the leash off of her and she bolted under the kennel. Shavon & Alison were very patient with my cat. With a bit of help from me they were able to get her out from hiding. Shavon provided great advice for future visits. While Zoe was still skittish, Alison was able to give her a waterless bath and groom my baby to perfection. Thanks again ladies for your patience and kindness. read more

The grooming at this Petsmart on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn was great years ago when it opened. So I had fond memories of that when I brought my new to me sixteen year old dog for grooming today. The two groomers in the salon were so surly, rude, angry, nasty, depressed, and passive aggressive that I asked for them to call the manager. Kelly, is her name. She arrived to hear the worst one of the two of them yelling like a distraught two year old. Kelly, rather than trying to solve the problem, or even ask what was going on refused to help. Clearly then, I understand, why the grooming place is so badly run. I am sorry that a good place has gone so badly downhill, and relieved that their behavior occurred before I left my dog with them. He would not have been safe with them. Please beware! Protect your loved pets from these toxic women. Luckily the neighborhood has several other excellent grooming places. I adopted a puppy rather quickly, so I didn't exactly have anything on-hand or prepared for her arrival. In fact, we went straight from the shelter to PetSmart. I was buying loads of stuff. Pretty much everything. The one staff member who I asked for help was helpful at first, then she kept looking over at other customers. To the point where I felt bad and told her that I was fine on my own. I was, kind of. So I would say that you shouldn't expect to get a ton of assistance since they don't have a ton of staff on the floor at any given time. I've already returned a couple of times since then.
