My last visit was quite different from my first experience at this store. I stopped by looking for a donut pillow and hot spot spray for my pup. Luckily, they had a probiotic spray but the donut pillow selection was limited. Before purchasing the donut pillow, I asked if other sizes were available since I only saw medium. I was told what was on the shelf was all they had. I also asked about the return policy and received conflicting information--one employee said 30 days, while another said 24 hours. I purchased the pillow, canned food, hot spot spray and dog treats for around $92 and some change. I paid the exact amount in cash. After returning to my car, I realized the pillow didn't fit my dog, and he wasn't interested in one of the treats. Since only a few minutes had passed, I went back to return those two items. I requested a refund with a different staff member and they seemed hesitant to process the refund, explaining that their register had limited cash. Eventually, the refund was completed. The interaction felt unnecessarily difficult? The refund amount was also slightly short because not enough pennies were available. The staff always, ALWAYS says hello when you walk in and they're ready to help without hovering. The dog food we get for our senior fur baby was recently discontinued and the friendly staff helped us find an alternative that met all of our pet's needs. Our cat, Syree's, birthday was on Monday so we stopped by Pets Plus to spoil her with some good food and a toy or two. We loved the selection of frozen and fresh food for cats. Great stuff. It's nice to shop at a boutique pet stores vs a large chain. They tend to have things the other stores don't. And they accept returns because they understand your purchase might not always agree with your pet. In my case, my dog has a sensitive stomach so she can't eat everything. Love this pets store for dog treats. I have 3 6mo old husky pups. I get their training treats (ziwi) and beef tracheas here, they carry a beef tracheas bites made in USA here and my dogs loves those. They've also got a lot of bully sticks and gourmet dog treats with single ingredients. Any time I come in, there's either a young man or a lady working and they've always been super helpful and polite. I love their inventory and am glad to support them. They sell betas, hamsters, fish, birds, and more. I bought my kids their first fish, and hamsters there. They sell dog treats up front at the register. You can also join their mailing list and have coupons sent to you. It's a small mom & pop shop but they have a lot to choose from. They even have pet crates, and cages. However, they did not enforce customers to wear face mask and not protecting their vulnerable customers or themselves. I like to try and support smaller businesses and at first I liked this place, but it's hit or miss when it comes to customer service. Sometimes the employees are friendly and sometimes they're not. Today the woman working the check out counter when I went in wasn't pleasant at all. I found the item I needed on my own so I didn't request any kind of assistance. When she was ringing me up, I tried to engage in some friendly small talk, but she was rude and standoffish. If I want to be treated badly by employees, I'll go to one of the large chain stores where the products are cheaper. read more

Since our ohana includes a dog, tree frogs, a red-eared slider turtle, & a Holland Lop bunny...we usually end up at PetSmart for our needs. But especially for our bunny, I appreciate the selection they carry. They have the food I prefer, a great selection of bedding materials, & the right selection of treats, toys, & accessories to choose from. For example, tonight I was able to find pellitized straw bedding for our bunny. 20 lbs for only $17! I just need to check next time to see if they have live crickets next time too. I have been coming here for my pet's food since my very very first dog. The prices are not that much better than big name stores, but they have the dog food I buy for my puppy now. Sometimes, I noticed that they carry better selection on certain dog foods than the big name stores. I like that they do honor some of the brand's savings (like Avoderm- buy 10 bags, get the 11th one free) that I am not sure if the big name stores do. I was told that if I bought 10 bags of a certain brand of food the 10th one is free. I got to 10 they said I had 9. I got to 11 and still said i have 9. Then i got to 12 and said I have only 10, now they said the promotion is for 12 bags not 10. Pets plus lies, this is the thanks I get for trying to help local business. I bought a brand new cat litter, it was the world's best cat litter, I didn't even open it ,and my cat bite through the bag over night, I thought it's dangerous because my cat might like to eat it , so I went back with a 99.99 percent full bag asking for exchange or return. NOPE, they refused to. I usually order my pet stuff on Amazon or just go to petsmart, they would have both taken my return or exchange. So stay away from this store, go to Amazon or petsmart or Petco, where you are spending the same price but with a good customer service and fantastic return policy. read more

This pets plus is 20 minutes of walking distance from where I live. I tried walking today and it is at a walk-able distance, although the weather was very hot, I made it safely. I was greeted politely by the employees. They have some cute rats and guinea pigs in the store as well as dogs that are chewing on dog gum. I went to buy cat food for some stray feral cats outside my house and the price was reasonable. They gave me some samples of cat food and that was cool. I called the store in the Rolling Hills Plaza and asked if they can get the puppy wilderness Blue for me. I was told: "No we cannot, we don't carry that" Just for the heck, I called the next location in Torrance on Artesia and Crenshaw. I spoke with the Store Manager Val. I asked the same question and explained to him I live just around the corner from there. He is going to order the large puppy breed of the Blue Wilderness I need. He also answered some very specific questions I have for my Rottweilers; pertaining to the amount of protein and the growth and some other health questions. My Rotties are my babies. I show them in competition. I am so at ease, knowing there is a man named Val that has the knowledge, than apposed to the other location that has minimal knowledge and acts like they are working at a frat house. The location in the Rolling Hills Plaza hires people without knowledge and I would bet does not do any product training classes. I use to work as a Regional Manager for 5 states. One of the most important aspects I emphasized was product training to care for customers. Val always helps me and gets what I need. His knowledge is very impressive. I hope he is recognized for his work ethics and excellent customer service.... Seriously... I have been going to that location with my Mom for 30 years, before it became Pets Plus... I am involved with a lot of Rottie clubs and dog rescue. I am always ONLY referring them to go to the Artesia and Crenshaw location; unless they want to feel like they are dealing with immature High School people. It's sad to say; but even sadder, it's the truth I WILL NEVER EVER GO to the Rolling Hills Plaza to Pets Plus for anything. Prices aren't the best compared to the big stores but the selection is pretty decent. This is all relative to cats as that's who I was shopping for. I want to support local stores as much as possible but you got to offer something the big guys can't. Usually that's customer service. But my first time here at this store I got some pretty terrible service. Actually it was non-existent. I walk in and no welcome or greeting. I'm looking through the cat aisle for a few minutes trying to find a specific cat litter. I'm fine with no one asking me for help. What killed the experience: as I was walking to the register a woman walked in and asked the cashier about a product. He promptly left with her to the aisle. Left me standing there. Didn't ask for another cashier to come up, there was no one there. I place my things on the counter and wait for Journeys 'don't stop believing' to end. It seemed like forever. Then to top it off...minutes later...he brings the woman's bird feed or whatever to the counter. Moves my things aside and rings her up........... I've worked customer service for years, protocol would be to ring me up first as I was waiting in line first. Or in the least call for a back up cashier. Not only that. He asked the woman if she needed help out and wasn't even going to ring me up after her.... Summary: lacking customer service there's no reason to come to this store over the big Petco/Persmarts of the world. Or better yet...just buy on Amazon. read more
