I used to come here for 9 yrs up until they changed or added a groomer (woman) to their company I'd say sometime in the last year or so. First incident I had an issue with said groomer, she chipped my dogs nail really deep to the point she kept bleeding. Now I understand accidents happen, but she didn't even mention anything to my husband when he picked up his mom's dog, nor did she offer anything to help with the bleeding beforehand. I came in and was upset because my MIL's dog was bleeding everywhere. She started speaking to me in Spanish, and I said sorry I don't speak Spanish (I'm Asian that knows some Spanish but can't get by easily) maybe I could've worded it differently but I didn't collect myself before blurting that out. She grabbed a worker, cool guy with the long wavy locks, and he was very professional and apologized in which I accepted. Incident 2, I had made an appointment for Sunday, 3/29/26. I came in around 9:40, waited behind a lady who was a WALK-IN and was told that she (same groomer with the itty-bitty nose septum piercing) couldn't take anymore dogs because she has a full day. Then I said I have an appointment though, and she looked at me like sorry can't do it then heads over to get the manager. Manger explained to me she couldn't take my mother in laws dog because she's matted, it'll take too long so it may stress the dog and leads to biting/irritable dog. Okay, so how are they going to take walk ins and not prioritize appointments knowing that dogs may come in matted? They should take in to account unforeseen circumstances like this...she (groomer) is the professional and should understand how business works and by experience and knowledge that clients have dogs that need extra time? Manager didn't reprimand the worker. She kept apologizing for not being able to take my MIL's dog and that she can make an appt for Thursday with Doro the other groomer. I wanted to give this place another chance but this same girl just gave it another bad experience. It's funny because the customer before me turned around and gave me an ugly face like she didn't like how the groomer was responding to her when she requested her dog's paws to be shaven down. The lady was asking nicely and didn't even give you an attitude. With that last statement, that should be enough that it isn't just me who has an issue with this girl. If you don't like your job Then find a new one. If you have a packed day, don't take any more walk ins. Simple. I feel bad for people who have her as a groomer. I do not recommend this place at all. First of all, everyone has the same appointment. My dogs had a 10:30 a.m. appointment but, the line was almost in the front of the store. At 4:30 p.m. my dogs still caged and waiting to be cut. I called them but, had to drive there because, they kept hanging up the phone. Charged a $100.00 for a bath stating the dogs were dirty and, they had to do their job and bath them more than one time. This location overbook their appointments and, then tell you they close at 7. Any other pet store would offer to take the bag to your car or at least help you bring it out but no this place gives you a cart and you have to roll it out yourself. I took my puppy here for a full-service grooming, and the results were less than satisfactory. I have visited this place twice. The first time, a male groomer did an okay job; my dog came back smelling fresh and clean. However, during my second visit, a female groomer did not wash my dog properly, as I could clearly smell that he was unwashed. While the price is affordable, I suppose you get what you pay for. Unfortunately, I will not be returning for grooming services again. Sometimes I walk in and the staff don't always acknowledge me either, I see their busy helping other customers. I don't take it personal, not a dinner reservation. If you were being helped and they stopped every 5 seconds to help someone else you would bitch about that too. They've always been cool and courteous. People complain about not taking your stuff to your car, at least they give you a cart. Plus, they have taken my big ass bag of dog food to my car, few times, I'm a grown ass man and they did. A few months ago, I went to Petnjoy to buy goldfish feeders for my turtle. While I was there, a staff member let me know that some of the goldfish had fungus and advised me not to buy them. I really appreciated her honesty and have been cautious ever since. Now, I always call ahead to check if the feeders are in good condition before coming in. On my last visit, I spoke to a young employee who said he didn't know if the fish had fungus. When I asked if he could check with someone else, he said he was just kidding and assured me they were fine. Today, when I called to ask about the feeders, the person I spoke with said they didn't know because no one had checked them recently. Do NOT take your dog for any grooming services. After 9 hours of having my dog, they returned her to me with her paws bleeding. We will never return here. Absolutely unacceptable and the staff will definitely not take care of your pets. Please take them somewhere else. The person doing pet grooming has absolutely no idea how to care for dogs and doesn't look or sound like she cares. I will add that i did call, they first try to blame it on the fact that she has black fur and then they offered to take her in and put medication. The least that they're able to do. Went here for crickets , i noticed it was a bit busy so I didn't mind just waited my turn , there was a girl named Noemi that was helping a family before me. Once she was done she rang them up & then proceeded to ring me up for my crickets. She had a line behind me so she kept ringing customers up . I was NOT yet given my crickets yet. The cashier proceeded to ask another girl with orange hair for help but when the girl responded "WHAT" to Noemi she stayed quiet. Noemi was great no complaint on her she tried her best as she was left alone. The Orange head girl was in fact the issue being no help. She saw her coworker struggling yet she didn't help not ring up customers or give the things that we had already paid for. Pretty annoying that we had to wait such a long time for something that we had already payed for. Been here only once couple months ago. Was trying to go today. I tried to call and see if they were open before I got on the bus. They at least answered but asked me to hold. I waited a few minutes but figured since they were open I would be ok. As soon as I get off the bus, they closed down. I had 10 minutes still, and brought a friend. So in all honesty I feel strange writing this review. This is because my first experience was good. My second experienced was terrible and my third experience was somewhat enjoyable until I read these comments and was hesitant on writing a review once told to do so... I can't give this a 5 star because there are people there that don't know what they are doing! For example who tells someone that your puppies nails will bleed when they get them trimmed- that in fact means you're hitting the vain. When I said that's not normal I was told by the man yes it is. I know for a fact that's not normal. I made it clear her nails must not bleed. I'm disappointed that I still got them done there. I only did this because they apparently sell the vaccines there for the dogs and when I called the day I went I was told they could administer my dogs shot twos days early. When I got there I was told otherwise. They handed me the shots and said to do it on my own! When I called the store to explain that I did not get the service that I felt I paid for while they're the lady on the phone was very disrespectful and should've offered me a refund rather told me it was my fault. Of course I had a an upset tone! I felt jipped off!! The third time I went there was because I was confused on why the vaccines weren't what I thought they were supposed to be. I hope what I was told was true. I Believe Ester when she said they stopped carrying the second dose shots in order to people not liking that it was carrying the Corona Virus but in fact I once again probably should of gone somewhere else if that's a virus that other places would have covered for.Erick was working the register that day and they seemed work as a team. That's why I have to at least give this a 3. But I can't give more.. Like I said I'm torn with my review because I was told I can give her the same shots twice but when I think about it why would I double vaccinate my dog for the same thing just three weeks apart, If she already got that then why put double in her? Took my puppy here for his very first pet grooming. Their prices are great I was charged 45 USD for my puppy (Maltipoo, 5 months old; 8.5 lbs). Their prices are based off the weight of the dog. They have several haircut options/styles for you to choose from. Their check in service is great and quick. They seem to be pretty popular so the earlier you get there the better. The only downfall would be the wait time. It can go up to an entire day of your pup being caged up. They do not provide food for your pet but I brought some along with me and they were kind enough to feed him a little while he was in their care. I know my puppy can be difficult to handle but they did a wonderful job. I would give it 5 stars but the wait time was crazy long which hindered my productivity throughout the day. The lady who attended me was very patient and friendly. She looks like she enjoys her job and she was very happy to see our reaction to our puppy's very first haircut. read more

Monica who is a groomer and appears to be nice and knowledgeable about grooming, breeds, & pet care, just left my damn dog in a locked cage, wet, dark and all alone. Never called or said anything. My dog was gasping for air when I picked him up as if he had been choked. He looked distraught and afraid. He's usually perky, and up beat. They cut his hair around his face, which is a no no, he's just a puppy, a 3 month old puppy. A purebred tea cup.. This would have been my dog's third trip there to get WASHED ONLY. Can't believe these weirdos kept cutting his hair. And doing what ever else behind closed doors. I would be wrong if I were to go bat shit crazy. But I'm just gone write an honest review and keep it pushing. If you just so happen to run across a stray and just wanna clean him or her up, this is the place for you, other than that, if you don't want to have a "FUCKED UP" experience, " DO NOT", and I repeat, "DO NOT" take your dog there. The mom n' pop of the former Hills Pet n Feed, is now Pet n'Joy with new name change/ownership still has the mom n'pop energy, this place hasn't changed and hopefully it won't. The space is small and items are limited. They do have two parking lots, one in the front and back. I've taken my dog for grooming only, which was decent and reasonable. The employees are always friendly and I've never had any issues whatsoever ever. If you want something for your pet and you don't have a lot of time to go to a larger store, this store comes in handy. read more

I've been coming to this location for over 5 years. I've never had a complaint. However, today I was unwelcomed by an ANTI Black groomer,Noelia,who was rude and disrespectful to any customer who wasn't Spanish speaking, particularly black customers. I noticed that it was a new groomer since I know the sweet ladies, Dora and Monica, who usually help me. I even tried to give this new groomer grace since she was new. I dropped my dog off and left the way I typically do. Now keep in mind I have pet and joys number saved for when they would like me to pick up my dog. Today a random number called me so I didn't pick it up, as I don't pick up random calls. Eventually I did call pet n joy to see if my dog was ready, they told me that I can come and pick him up anytime before 7pm. Cool. Then I get another call from the random number and I answer. I can immediately tell was the groomer because of her nasty attitude . She proceeded to say that there is a 10 minute window in which you need to pick up your dog otherwise there will be a $200 fee. First of all that's a lie because I've been going for 5 years and no one ever expressed that as a rule. Second of all, you can't establish that rule without letting customers know. Third of all, save if you're nasty attitude for someone else, not for loyal customers to your establishment. Needless to say, I will be looking for a new groomer and I'm sad to sever ties with pet n joy in Gardena. But you really hired the worst groomer for your business and I promise you will be able to see that when your customers begin to dwindle. read more

I always drive by and I thought I'd stop in to take a look. This place definitely has an mom and pop feel but not in a good way. It smells and looks old. Their fish tanks looked clean but some of their reptile cages could have used a little bit of work. There were two bearded dragons that looked extremely stressed out, clawing at the glass. The most concerning was the cages for the chinchillas. There's a white one on the ground level that looked dirty and malnourished. And a darker one that was in a cage much too small for its size. Chinchillas are active and playful and need at least a double tiered cage to exercise. Also, considering they are nocturnal and sleep during the day, you'd hope to see them in an area that doesn't have have so much foot traffic or isn't too loud. But then again, the place is old and run down, so there's probably no room. I also noticed the shelving or storage unit for the little white mice near the register. That was really sad! Probably a hundred mice just packed on top of one another. Most of the mice on the bottom looked like they were dead or close to dying. I know they are just considered feed, but can you care just a little bit more? It looks like they care for the animals at the BARE minimum which is saddening that they are allowed to make a profit this way. I wanted to buy the chinchillas just to save them from this place but at $150 each, I was unable too. As much as I'd like to support smaller owned businesses, I would push to buy smaller animals at a Petco or Petsmart. At least they seem to care more of the animal's well-being. read more

I just felt the need to post this even though I've never reviewed on yelp or any other site. I usually bring my 10 year old King Cocker-spaniel here to get a summer cut maybe about every 3-4 months. I tried to come yesterday but they were booked so I made an appointment for today. I pulled in the parking lot around 10:03 and walked back to to the grooming station. There was 1 guy who had a towel and seemed to be drying a dog wit a towel. I saw this guy hit the dog hard on its head with a closed fist! I heard the poor dog cry and I immediately went to the front to ask what the name is of the guy grooming. They didn't tell me but I told the staff what happened and told them they could rewind the footage to see for themselves. Another guy went to the back but I don't know what was said or done at the grooming station. I asked for a manager and the staff behind the counter said that no manager was there at the time. I don't know what is going to be done but I will NOT bring my dog back to support this store! I'm in total shock! I went back to ask, the groomers name was Marvin. read more
