The space is large, clean, and you can tell that they take great care of their fish because they look active and not sickly. I came on an afternoon over the weekend and was excited to see so many people asking about how to care for aquatic plants, when to introduce tank mates, etc. When you enter the shop, to your left are tanks, decorative wood, and dry goods like supplements. Loosely speaking, it seems like freshwater specimens (including some hefty bettas, thank you for keeping them in nice big mason jars instead of plastic) are on the left side, while marine/saltwater are center and right. The plants you see when you enter are far healthier than what you'd find at big box stores - I myself picked up some red root floaters and an Anubias variety called white rose. I've been to many a shop growing up that were dim, damp, and generally not as well kept as Age of Aquariums. They really take their time to explain how to design a tank, care for plants, and what to look for in healthy fish. Really fun spot I would like to bring my dad to so he can upgrade his 10 gallon tank!

My coral kept dying. I had a frog spawn coral that was dead with maybe two heads barley clinging on. Needless to say, I fired her and found Justice and South Bay Aquaculture. He not only was able to bring the frog spawn back to life, but it's grown to 10x it's size! Plus all the other coral that he added to my tank. He was able to kill the algae that this other person had grown. Justice really knows his stuff. No matter how bad your tank is right now (and mine was really bad! Just ask Justice) he can transform it into the tank you want!!

Tanks are stunning (clean, sparkly, lively) with new and interesting fish. Their live plant stock has grown and improved as well with some pretty healthy choices. The guys who work here are friendly and knowledgeable. The owner, Chris, is usually there keeping things running smoothly and I learned in our lengthy conversation that the reason for the shop declining back then was due to a family member passing and hardship stemming from that. I am SO impressed at how he pulled through and was dedicated to bringing his business back to life. So the lesson is YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT SOMEONE IS GOING THROUGH. I was quick to judge but now I know that also, running an aquarium shop has so many components/vendors you're dealing with and it's not always going to be perfect. So have some grace. These guys care about the livestock and customers. They'll do their best to be fair and remedy a situation. I've bought some great fish and they have been THRIVING. They even let me adopt a little one eyed betta that no one wanted but now she's living her best life. If I had one gripe it would be not to keep male bettas in tiny little cups, that's just cruel... I'm in disbelief…read more... I have a pre-drilled 75 Gal aquarium tank and was in a bit of a bind with my API Filstar XP canister filter which had a bad impeller and the water flow was poor. While looking for a replacement part, I found out that this filter was discontinued and replacement parts are scarce to non-existent.  I purchased a Fluval Canister filter but found out that it was not compatible with the existing plumbing.  Facing the propects of having to do a replumb, and not knowing where to start, and what parts I would need, I decided to google search for companies that could perform this service.   I called MK Aquarium and Kevin answered.  He took the time to understand my issue.  What I really appreciated about Kevin is that he decided that I could save money by doing the work myself AND he would be willing to walk me through how to do it.  Candidly, I was shocked and touched by this act of kindness from a business owner. Kevin was on the phone with me, answered all my messages and I was able to get it done.  My tank is up and running with no issues so far.
