LG hired Petro to look at my brand new stove which was a under warranty. I had Petro technicians look at my gas stove 8 times to correct shooting irregular flame from the top burner without success. Additionally the stove's stopped working after replacing the regulator. Another technician came and found out that Petro technician incorrectly installed the regulator. It cost $100 to fix stove issue. I called Petro couple of times to refund me the $100 And never heard from them again. Do not use Petro. Bunch of incompetent technicians In response to my earlier review, I was asked to call Carmen, Customer Service Manager at Petro. woke up to an oil leak, called at 8:30. Diag. fee 120, most importantly could be there before noon, baby in the house, starting to smell (the oil leak not the baby) need help ASAP, come, payment taken. Called at 1, tech running late still on the way. ok. called at 4 was told the repair order was written wrong and would have to redispatch, some will be there soon. they call me at 6 to tell me they were not coming because I do not purchase oil from them. I just moved into the house, and have been a customer since first home in 2014, initial rep changed my address when i called in the morning so they were well aware of this. was told it is not there problem, and it is their policy, well no one there knew of the policy when i called after i paid you after i called three time asking what the hold up was. I would rather have some one from Petro spit in my face, at least it would be over in less than a minute than to be put through this again, my belongings slowly soaking up oil, stuck in a house waiting and calling and getting nothing in return from a company i have used since 2014. they must have some big accounts because they do no care at all about the little ones. Petro was despicable in how they handled my situation yesterday. And made no effort to help a family of 5 in a house filling up with oil, instead chose to devote their time on the phone with me to trying to get me to sign up for an oil contract for a leaking tank that they refused to repair and no showed for 8 hours after taking my money. no explanation, multiple people with no answers and no idea how to explain what happened. zero responsibility. supervisor told me the leak was my problem, the oil company who i called told me that was my problem after no showing for 8 hours and promising 4 times they were coming. read more

I have been a customer of Petro (formally General Utilities) for almost 24 years. I've always payed for a service contract as well. This past year with the way oil prices are going I decided to shop around and was able to find a promotional price from another company for $4.79 a gallon plus the service contract free. My current contract with Petro was up this past July 30th. I had my burner serviced that day by Petro as well. Petro would not match the offer but offered $5.14 a gallon being I was a long time customer and proceeded to tell me "well the difference isn't much with the amount of gallons you used last year it will only cost you $270 more to stay with us". I told Petro I wanted to be taken off automatic delivery until I decided. I had the other company come asses my burner as they require it before signing a contract. When they evaluated it they told me there were three things wrong with it as well as it has two leaks that had to be fixed first or they wouldn't sign me. At this time I called Petro again and questioned first if it's only a difference of $270 why would a company not match the price for a customer of 24 years instead of losing them. They again refused. I then told them about the issues with the burner and since my service contract is still valid and they were here only a month ago to service the burner and told me it was in great shape that they should be fixing this. My service contract doesn't expire until November even though the oil contract expired July. Petro refuses to fix my burner claiming because I took it off automatic delivery that means I cancelled my contract which makes my service contract cancelled as well. Petro then has the nerve to ask me if I want to pay to have them fix the burner. Although the service supervisor Mike tried to be helpful and was very sympathetic his leadership would not allow him to help me. I told them I will pay anyone else to fix the issues except for them. Terrible customer service and I'm disgusted after all these years they would treat a customer like this. No loyalty!!!! DO NOT SIGN WITH PETRO! read more

I have been using Petro for about a year and a half. They helped me get new oil tanks because mine were about to burst through the bottom. Their deliveries are regular and they are patient and courteous when I am sometimes delinquent with my account. I look forward to getting central air with them one day soon. read more

Dave was here today for a fall tuneup and was very helpful in explaining my new gas heating system and how to keep it at max efficiency. On or about July 2018 my home central Air Conditioner was not cooling. I called Petro to repair the inoperable A/C. They came out but claimed they could not find the problem after running all their diagnostics. They sent over a salesman to sell me a new unit atvthe cost of $6,575.00. I couldnt believe that none of their technical experts could ascertain the problem with system that was only 7 years old and now sent a salesman to sell me an entire new system. I called a for a second opinion from a local air Conditioner company who found the problem to a small piece that cost less than $100.00. In total I paid less 250.00 for the repair. Saving approximately $6,225.00. Ensure you get a second or third option on repairs or you will be paying thousands. Sadly, I will never recommend Petro to anyone. read more

I had a yearly contract with Petro for Oil Furnace service delivery to my home. Petro delivered one time before my air handler froze over and since my furnace was over 20 years old I decided to switch to propane. I called Petro to give me a quote multiple times, and no one has returned my calls for 2 months this went on. So I decided to use another company to install my propane boiler and propane service. Now Petro sent me the $399 bill for early termination fee. Is that fair, yes it is, its a contract, legal. Is it something you would want done to yourself, NO, nobody would like this done to them, its BAD business. Lesson learned, read the fine print, I learned my lesson with Petro. If you are thinking of using Petro Home Services, think again. I have had Petro for three years now. They are very good sending techs in a timely manner, but that is the best I can say. I have had to call them more than normal this year, as first I ran out of oil, although I am on auto delivery and then I had a problem with too high pressure which caused the burner to spray hot water all over to release it. The problem was eventually fixed with a bill for over $1,000.00. To my regret I recently signed an agreement for oil delivery for another year. My service agreement arrived yesterday with an 40% increase in my rate, making the payment more than double what is was in 2017! I called them, to no avail and was told I was getting a lower rate as the customer average was over $600.00 a year for a service contract. Only sign with Petro if you have money to burn. read more

I have been a customer with Petro for 11 years and have noticed a rapid decline in service over tge last several months. Very difficult to get an actual person on the phone. Several times a delivery was scheduled and the truck never showed to deliver during these very cold months. When u call and finally get an actual person they tell you they have no record of your scheduled delivery for that day. We have been left several times without oil or waiting days to get billing errors resolved. I would never recommend Petro to anyone. read more

The service I receive whether it be oil deliveries, boiler service or renewing a contract is always excellent. I've never had a bad experience dealing with Petro over the years. I've been calling for a few days wanting to get oil delivery and the customer service staff told me that I had plenty of oil according to their beloved Gremlin system - which definitely doesn't work. Fast forward to a few days later, my boiler won't start and I've tried just about everything to get it to work and nothing helps. I go outside and the status gauge thing on my oil tank says i'm practically empty, and yet, Petro customer service said I was fine and had plenty of oil. I called at 6am (which btw, the wait time, 46 mins, is just awful) and they said they would send a technician out sometime today to see what the 'problem' was; the lady wouldn't give me an estimated wait period. And now that I called again (took an hour and 13 mins to speak to someone), a few hours later, another lady tells me that the technician would be coming between the hours of 4pm-7pm..... I'M CURRENTLY FREEZING MY BOTTOM OFF AT MY HOUSE, I'M WORRIED THAT A WATER PIPE WILL BURST, and they tell me that I have to wait a whole 12-13 hours for my "boiler to get fixed?" All I need is an oil delivery! I can't even go to a shelter or anywhere since it says in my sales contract that if I'm not home, they're not liable for anything that happens to my house. I signed a contract last year and used their oil service. Before the contract was up this year, I got a better price elsewhere and cancelled. They just made a delivery at a price $.40 more per gallon. I gave them no authorization to do so. I called them up and told them I would gladly pay them my new agreed upon price. They refused. UPDATE! I'm happy to update that I spoke with the customer service manager Ellen Horstman. She was sorry to hear I was upset with the situation and agreed to only charge me the same price I currently pay with my new contract. I had a major problem with a CSR who falsely accused me of cancelling my contract. When I got the $600. bill, I called Customer Service. After trying several times to correct the problem, I was finally connected with the Customer Service Manager, Ellen, She has made all the difference in the world. She has gone above and beyond to correct the situation. She is an outstanding employee that Petro is lucky to have. Because of her, I am remaining a customer with Petro. Petro is a blessing. I had a bad experience with Amerigas, so I looked for replacement. Found that for several years they were high on the "Top of L.I." list of "L.I. Press", so I contacted them. Initially I was (and still am...) little suspicious regarding this list, but Petro proved to be really superior - in ALL aspects - price, professionalism, reliability, communication, service. I started just with Propane, then I started buying from them also heating oil, then assigned them the heating system\boiler service, and if encountering plumbing problem, I'm planning on trying them also on this. My Lennox furnace wasn't working so I called Petro, which said it was an authorized Lennox shop. I provided information about the unit (model, serial #, propane fuel). The repairman they sent (a) was certified only in repair of oil burning unit -- not propane; (b) had little Lennox units and sat in the basement reading the manual; (c) told me they're not Lennox-authorized but so large a company that Lennox supplies parts; and (d) diagnosed the issue incorrectly. Initially I use Petro for my second home. I'm only there at best 6 days a month from Oct to May. Since barely any oil gets used (keep temperature at 52 when I'm gone) I told them on numerous occasion not to fill my tank up every month. NO they did not Listen. Switched to another co. 3 years later I find out Petro brought them out. I'm going to drop Petro. I've had it. They have a big hearing problem. They don't listen to the customer. Since I'm not around in the winter I'm not there to collect the bill. I pay my bills on time and in full. I'm away on vacation and receive a call from Petro telling me I'm past due. Past due of what??? I only received the bill 2 weeks ago. Not even a hello... just an irrrate "past due".HOw would I know when u filled the tank since it's a very part time residence. Petro your customer service STINKS. U need to learn how to talk to your customers. Remember we are the ones that keep u in business. For the record I am in the service business. If I behaved the way u do... I would be out of business. This is not the first negative review I have written... hopefully it will be the last. Petro is by far the Worst Oil company my husband and I have ever dealt with ! we always had Taylor fuel. Unfortunately when he closed we got stuck with this poorly run company ! We called a month ago to make an appt for our burner to be cleaned . We do have a contract. We were told that they can't do it until February. They other day we had no heat. Called Petro could not get through for 40 minutes. We were Than told that service man will be here by 3 pm we waited home till after 3 still no serviceman. Called Petro and were told that we are on the list for the following day . I than explained that we have no heat and were told it would be fixed that day !!!!! Again I was placed on hold. I was told that service would try to get to my house soon. Six hours later service man showed up. I would give this company no stars. I have to say i am FURIOUS!!!! We moved into our home 1 year ago and have had problems with petro. We have a service contract wherein we receive oil deliveries based on our usage. Petro miscalculated our usage and we ran out of oil 1 month ago today. I woke to a freezing cold home. I called and reported no heat at 6am. Petro said they'd have a tech to me in the morning sometime and they did not arrive until after 7PM (more than 12 hours later). My family and i were LIVID!!!! The only thing that made this better was the service tech was thorough. It is exactly 1 month later and we woke to no heat again. Shocker, Petro once again miscalculated our oil usage and we ran out of oil. I called at 6am and tech showed up at 4PM. He was literally in my basement for less than one minute. He looked at the oil burner and then proceeded to check the oil tank. It was less than 1/4 full (same issue as last time). He left the basement and never returned again to double check anything...to make sure everything was working properly. He gave us 10 Gallons of oil and had me hit the reset button and left. 1 hour later no heat again! I called Petro and they said they'd have someone here by 9. It's now 11:12pm and still No one. We have young children and a dog, we all have work and school tomorrow. This is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE!!!! Terrible service. We will be cancelling our contract with them. The only reason i am giving them a 1 and not a zero is because YELP doesn't permit zero stars. read more

This is a company that has gobbled up other, smaller, companies. It has also diversified into (as you hear endlessly while you wait forever) plumbing, electrical, and who knows what else. Petro.... your support services STINK. Customer loyalty means nothing, service means nothing. I can't even change oil suppliers because there are almost none left in my area. If you have viable opportunities to use another supplier, please do yourself a favor and use them. The debacle I suffered through during last year's blizzard (and I had no oil after I called and asked to be topped off before the blizzard and was basically told to "get in line"), to the horrendous billing snafu between my propane and oil deliveries this past summer, to me running out of oil, yet again, due to an error on my part just 2 days ago. I paid immediately, had no record of missing payments FOR YEARS....I was out of town for a month and fell behind. I paid electronically immediately, but it wasn't good enough. OK, I accept the responsibility, but that doesn't matter. I still was without heat for 24 hours. Their service people are usually great, unfortunately there aren't enough of them. Their telephone people couldn't care less. They "yes" you to death and then don't deliver. STAY AWAY if you can. read more

For the technicians at Petro that serviced my 25 year old Burnham furnace and installed a new Riello Head My hats off to Frank tech#855 took his time and installed that Riello as if it was his own home. No problems purrs like a kitten. Alan tech 840 did the yearly follow up tune up and very knowledgble . Went above his svce call and inspected my above ground oil tank. Notified me of a potential problem and showed me where excessive rust in the rear belly of tank was. Would never would of thought being a above ground 330 oil tank that was just turning 10 yrs old would have a problem. Glad I had tank care insurance with you but took care of it before any problems. Tech 890 Tom was sent over as follow up when I called and he red capped me the tank until I was to do tank replacement. Also Very knowledgeable for care of the tank. Replaced with brand new 275 GRANBY FROM BLACKMAN gravity fed with a double steel bottom tank and a see thru alarm if oil spill was to incur into secondary containment dept. Excellent 25 yr warranty with Teflon non rust tan coating. Also installed oil tank heater wand into tank and oil gauge along with new heat tape for preventive oil line freeze ups, although this year no reason to turn on! HaHa! Maybe Jan 2016! Unfortunately would of like to use Petro on the install but time factor too slow and very expensive. Perhaps in the future Petro Will have a crew that installs and take away abandoned oil tanks instead of subbing out. Just a suggestion! James tech 871 was also sent over to inspect new 275 grandy double steel tank after install, being I carry oil spill and tank care insurance. He gave me good tips and also care of my tank and when to turn on wand and heat tape on bottom of tank and turn off, which I have been doing over the years. Also use Hot Shot which my driver puts in 3 X per year. Keep up the good work, attitude and care for your customers! Believe it goes a long way thru word of mouth! I have left feedback before on how AWESOME their field staff is, and yet there have been SO MANY issues in the past 4 months with their administrative side it is completely frustrating. In the last 4 months, they have tried to delivery over 500 gallons of oil to me 2 weeks apart 2 different times, they have canceled my account and sent me a bill for $800 for early cancellation, AND now after this past Monday of trying to schedule an appointment for deliver TODAY.....guess what....they have the appointment scheduled for tomorrow!! So after I have been home ALL DAY I still have no delivery!! I previously requested that someone call me so we can work out whatever is causing these issues, but that employee was so nasty to me (it was after that conversation that my account was mysteriously cancelled) that I have turned to managing my own oil levels....but now I cannot even get them to deliver when they say they will.
