*BEWARE* PETRO WILL SUE YOU - My experience with Petro is genuine and on public record in Rhode Island. PLEASE READ BEFORE CONSIDERING THIS TERRIBLE PROVIDER. They currently operate and wreak havoc in 12 states. I intend to publish this review on all available review platforms in efforts to WARN others, especially new customers. Not only will Petro Home Services aka Petro Heat completely trap you as a customer, they will spend a large sum of their own money to drag you to court for your INCORRECT account balance. BACKGROUND: I signed up with Petro as a first-time homeowner in Fall 2020. Upfront, Petro offered new customer incentives that outweighed competitors in my area. During my acquisition process, Petro offered "buy a 1st year of service plan at $214, get the second year for FREE". Their "Premium Plan" included several yearly complimentary maintenance visits and discounted repairs/parts. From 2020-2022 I was also enrolled within their "Smart Pay Plan" payment option (where you're basically paying them ~$300 per monthly to add to your piggybank/account). The funds you auto-provide can be used for oil deliveries and service work when needed. Petro markets this option as a peace of mind tactic, it's all a strategy to get your money faster! I contacted Petro for a heating system issue needing address in winter of 2022. At that time I realized Petro had charged my account (withdrew from my banking account) to renew my service plan, which was meant to be my FREE 2nd year. From Feb. 2022 - April 2022 I had to take an enormous about of time and effort to get refunded for that charge, they gaslit me saying that was incorrect promo offer even though I had emails to back me up from Fall 2020. THEY BAIT AND SWITCH ON YOU. While working to get my refund, I decided to utilized the benefits included in the service plan. They scheduled my "Tune-Up" and another general visit, which they ended up cancelling on their end to prioritize other customers' needs that winter. WHILE this was all happening, Petro still had not addressed my original heating system issue. It took 2 WHOLE MONTHS for them to send a somewhat helpful tech (second person) to my house to just bleed my pipes! KICKER, they charged me for the work when they were done for ~$350. SO, it took another week of back and forth to issue me a refund. The work was covered under my service plan, they knew it and tried to pull a fast one on me. They already have your money, if enrolled in Smart Pay they DO NOT CARE. Petro will make you feel completely powerless, they price gauge oil fuel prices over $1+ more than local providers, they will call you DAILY if you're late on payment, come to your property without advance notice; sticking you with an enormous bill, IGNORE your requests to cancel service plans and auto-deliveries leaving you with the grueling task to obtain a refund. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!! COURT TOPIC: Petro sued me for ~$1,500. They came to my property without notice a day after my then ~$1,600 balance was squared up from previous oil deliveries. I was no longer enrolled in Smart Pay, or service plans and requested to no longer receive auto-deliveries (I kick myself because I didn't have my requests in writing). My balance went from $0 on 4/11/23 to $926 on 4/13/23. I refused to pay as I did not authorize. They told me I never canceled auto-delivery!! Months went on with late fees after late fees, by 11/27/23 they renewed my original service plan agreement I had already CANCELED in Nov. 2022 and did so even though there was zero communication coming from my end. They added more late fees before finally selling my debt to collections (a lawyer). I even brought several customer reviews to my defense in regards to Petro ignoring requests to cancel. THEY TRAP YOU IN A VICIOUS CYCLE TO CONSTANTLY BE IN DEBT TO THEM. That is why they came to my property immediately once my balance was at $0. THEY PREY ON FIRST TIME HOME OWNERS; think of it as love-bombing.. then completely toxic. I was ruled to pay $926. Petro's witness was some random account lady who swore under-oath that she personally listened to 3 years of my phone calls and claiming I never cancelled anything! They "waived" all late fees and the unauthorized 4th year service plan in court like they were the GOOD GUYS, HA! STEER CLEAR AND RUN! They will cost you time, money and your sanity. Throw any promo pamphlets you ever receive in the garbage!!! If you are currently with Petro I strongly advise you to leave. THEY ARE ROBBING YOU BLIND. Anytime you need to contact them for ANYTHING do it by email, never by phone. HAVE EVERYTHING IN WRITING when dealing with Petro. This company is an outright bully, a scam, unethical, an absolutely nightmare; you are willing signing up for mental and financial burdens if you chose this company for any services or goods! read more

We had a rep come over for a quote for central ac. We'd talked with several HVAC Companies and were told it was be a quick easy job since the duct work had already been completed. The quote from petro was $2,500 than the highest quote we had previously gotten but they said they could get in to do the work in "a few weeks" so we decided to go with them. We were given several payment options and decided to go with the petro financing and split up payments over 6m since we had just put in a very expensive patio. We waited weeks to hear back about scheduling. When we finally heard back we were told that the full payment was due before we could schedule. We've worked with many contractors and had several big projects done at our house. I've never heard of paying a contractor 100% of the cost upfront. We even offered to put a 50% deposit down and pay the other 50% when the job was completed but were told payment was due before they would Ben schedule. So we decided to pass and go with another company. That was over a month ago. Today my husband got a series of weird texts from the rep we worked with about having to pay for a job done and contractors demanding pay upfront. I wish we had read all of the terrible reviews and booked with another company back in May, the work would have already been done for cheaper than this company quoted. Save you're self the time and aggregation and go with a reputable company. A simple trip to yelp could have prevented this from happening. read more

We signed up with Petro a year ago and were initially satisfied with their delivery and service but encountered no issues. However, due to rising costs and a significant increase in their SmartPay plan, we decided not to renew for the coming year. We received our settlement balance, which we were fully aware of and ready to pay. The day after canceling our service, their Credit department began calling us daily to demand final payment--despite the balance not being due for another week. When I inquired if we would continue receiving daily calls, the representative, Michael, responded with an inappropriate and dismissive attitude, rudely confirming that the calls would continue. This level of customer service is both unprofessional and inconsiderate. Be cautious of their "special plans," as they can be misleading. Petro initially offers an attractive monthly payment plan, but when it's time for renewal, they often claim your usage exceeded expectations. This leaves you with a tough choice: pay significantly more than expected (sometimes 2.5 times more) or face an enormous balance if you cancel. To make matters worse, once you cancel, they waste no time hounding you daily for payment, regardless of the due date. I strongly advise against falling for their offers--they seem great upfront but come with hidden pitfalls. read more

On Thursday March 31, 2016 I had my boiler serviced for it's annual cleaning. The service technician was Bob 818. Bob has serviced my mom and dad's boiler most years for it's routine cleaning. My family has known Bob for many years. He takes the time to ask how everyone is doing. Bob is always very helpful and explains exactly what he will be doing and what things need attention. My boiler is an older unit and he takes time to care for it and checks it out thoroughly. Bob gave me information about assistance for the elderly with heating costs and replacement. Bob gave me information on new boilers. He explained efficiency and how a new boiler could save money on heating costs. Bob is a very knowledgeable technician. I highly recommend him. My family has been a loyal customer of Petro Home Services for over 30 years. Petro has always handled all my heating and repair service with the best of service. Anyone on the Petro team, whom I have had any contact, has always been helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable. I may pay a little more for a gallon of oil but it is worth the peace of mind to know I am covered by a "GREAT COMPANY" . Thank you Bob for your quality service. We just had Petro install a new boiler system. We had the A team come in and install !!!!! We had Alan and John and they are top notch. They are hard working and did not stop until the job was complete. We were in a tough spot with our boiler and everyone we spoke to expedited the situation to help us out . I first spoke to Stacy in customer service who was awesome. She helped set everything up. Erin was also amazing in customer service . She called to make sure everything was going ok. Stacy and Erin were fabulous . Dave Cabral was great he was kind and patient and explained everything . We had Steve and many other great service guys come out to help with the boiler . Our sales guy Ken came right out and helped to find a boiler so we could have a hot water . Susanne was terrific . She is so hands on and understanding . She has great people skills and made a tough time a lot better for myself and my family . I was so impressed by her kindess and dedication to the customers but also to the people she works with. I have been a customer of Petro for 20 years and when we found ourselves in a tough situation they stepped up and made it better . read more

Stay away! I put up with their overpriced oil for 3 years, even after being low-balled on the initial contract by being quoted a price that was only later explained as an introductory price for the first fill up. The final straw came last winter, on a 20-degree night when I had no heat. The service rep told me that they would get someone out the next day. When I asked about their 24-7 service policy (under my maintenance contract) I was told that 24-7 meant only that they would answer the phone 24-7, not that they actually provided SERVICE 24-7. After a lengthy and heated discussion, I was finally provided service that night. Their oil prices have crept up so that they are now more than $1 more expensive than their competition AND they provide lousy service. What's not to like? When I cancelled the contract, they called with a vague offer to rebate me some of their oil charges. I told them that, after 3 years, the rebate better be in the 4 figures. I recently had Three Great Service Calls for my Heating System from Petro Home Services. They did an Excellent job on my Boiler, Radiators, and a Leaking Pipe as well as installing a new Radiator in my Bathroom. They are very Professional and their Pricing is Excellent. They explain everything to you before they do the job and answer all questions you may have. They do not leave until everything is perfect. The Customer Service from Petro is Superb. They always get back to me when they say they are going to call back. I can depend on them 100% to be there for me when I need them for repairs or installation. The People I have dealt with: Mark, Jose, Dave Cabral, Chris, Brad are great people. The Customer Service people that I have dealt with who answer the phone are all Excellent!!! Failed to show for autodelivery on 12/28 no excuses its now 1/5- was supposed to fill yesterday spent my day on phone 35 times to them... never showed today. Its going to drop to -25 degrees tonight and my house is dropping below 50... no show today- supposed to be tomorrow now! And your ten gallon delivery today has not shown up. This is an emergency, I am a five year autofill customer my tank should never reach below half. When my pipes freeze you can foot the bill im furious. Your customer service and field service clearly are terrible as the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. Well folks my last name is IRVING, how embarrassing for you!!!! Shaban was my service tech . I received a curtesy call to inform me he would be here within 30 minutes depending on traffic . He arrived in 20 minutes . He was on time and extremely professional . He was informative and helpful. He was friendly and remained focused on his task making sure he kept me updated on what he was doing . I felt he was respectful not only to my questions / needs but also to Petro's expectations. He was neat and organized and had knowledge on the product. He did offer to cover his shoes also before he came in. Great manners ! It was a quick service call and he explained everything I needed to know . I felt that he covered everything 100% . I had a series of unfortunate events occur at my home earlier this winter as a result of a mistake made by a Technician who came to service a boiler this fall. Once the problem was finally identified, Petro was very responsive in assessing the series of events that led to the problems and were fair in their efforts to correct the issues. Accidents understandably happen but Petro's willingness to accept responsibility and work with me to amend the problem was greatly appreciated. In my experience, Petro's managers and their team of technicians are always a pleasure to work with and are cordial when working in my home. read more

I had an extremely frustrating experience with Petro. Their customer service is awful--rude, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. I called multiple times to ask about their per-gallon price for oil, and each time, I got the runaround. Instead of a clear answer, I was met with vague responses, pressure to sign up for a delivery, and outright avoidance of my simple question. If a company can't be transparent about its pricing, that's a huge red flag. I refuse to do business with a company that treats customers this way. We were loyal customers of PETRO for 26 years, but they've lost their way. Charging for services they never provided, charging for services under contract using dishonest practices, technicians that are outright rude and less knowledgeable about their jobs than they profess to be. If you're thinking of using PETRO for anything, don't. There are plenty of good companies willing to put the customer first without signing up for PETRO. I called Petro to have some plumbing work done and I worked with a customer service professional named Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn went above and beyond . She helped me make sure everything was scheduled and then called to make sure everyone showed up and the work was completed . The plumber that came out from Petro was Mark Malcuit and he also was top notch and quickly fixed the problem we were having and explained everything to me . I have been with Petro for 20 years and it is the people like Kaitlyn and Mark that make the difference !!!! read more

The technician, Bob 818, came to do the annual maintenance on my boiler. As a new homeowner I don't have a ton of knowledge about oil heat and boilers. Bob did a great job explaining safety features to me as well as offering solutions for any issues that came up. He arrived within the window of time given and completed the maintenance in a reasonable amount of time. Bob did a great job and was very professional. Petro has been very good to me. During the wretched winter of 2015 when I was running the furnace a lot, I ran out of oil and they came at midnight to add enough oil to get me to the actual delivery date. They did this despite the fact that I didn't have the service plan! This year I purchased the service plan. Their representative did a great job cleaning the furnace, was very polite and helpful. I believe it was the loyalty work group I spoke to, but I've never had a bad experience over the phone or in person with Petro. Wether its in the middle of the night of during the busy times of winter, they've always been there to answer the phone or send out a delivery. I have been with Petro since 2008. I have always had great service, but today's was above and beyond. It was excellent. Joe, the name of the Petro service man, was terrific. He was friendly, respectful, and so knowledgeable. He diagnosed the problem in just a few minutes and resolved it to my great satisfaction.
