I had an AC service appointment scheduled for over a month, and the company cancelled on me an hour and a half after the appointment window was already supposed to start. This was extremely frustrating because my job has very strict limits on work-from-home days, and I used one of my limited allotted days specifically for this appointment. The cancellation was not just inconvenient -- it wasted my time and impacted my work schedule. What made the situation worse was the customer service representative who called me. They were rude, unhelpful, and showed no concern at all for the fact that the company had wasted a customer's time. There was no real apology, no sense of accountability, and no effort to make the situation right. The most disappointing part is that this company requires customers to provide 24 hours' notice to cancel, but apparently does not hold itself to the same standard when cancelling on customers. If customers are expected to respect the company's schedule, the company should also respect the customer's time. Management should seriously review how cancellations are handled and how customers are treated when the company fails to honor scheduled appointments. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this company to anyone who needs reliable service or values their time. read more

Would give no stars if possible this company is non stop unable to perform the services they claim to offer. Scheduled a technician at 11am today. Was told 4-7pm they would be there. At 7:15pm I call in asking where they are and I'm told they won't be here till 10pm-1am. Extremely disappointed that they can't do basic services and claim to be a 24/7 emergency service. They claim they call but I have no missed calls voicemail or anything filtered to spam. They just keep giving the run around. I've been a Petro customer for nearly three years, and I regret staying with them as long as I did. Their prices are consistently among the highest in the state, and there's no clear justification for it -- it's not "special" oil, and I'm not receiving any added value in return. Despite their claims of offering the "best service," I'm not asking for service; I simply expect fair pricing and transparency. Unfortunately, Petro does very little for loyal customers. Pricing is unpredictable, and they don't disclose the cost per gallon until after the delivery. They also deliver on whatever schedule works best for them, not for the customer. With oil prices at historic lows, Petro has not passed any savings on to customers. Their Net Promoter Score reflects this, and I can understand why. I would not recommend this company. If you choose to use them, be very mindful of what you're being charged -- surprises are common. read more

I should have written this review at the time, a few years ago, but here's what happened. The heat started making a loud noise. Petro's tech said we needed a check valve. Their quoted price was $965. Instead I bought one for $60 at a local supplier, and a family member, who is in the business, installed it perfectly in 15 minutes. I coudn't possibly continue to be their customer. read more

This company is the worst to deal with. You can keep calling their customer service department several times but they will never do what you ask them to do. We are trying to monitor usage and want them to come at specific intervals. We have been trying to communicate this to them several times. We will be going with a different company after this Winter. They have so many bad reviews and BBB complaints because of their inattention to customers. They keep delivering propane when you ask them not to. It seems pretty fraudulent at this point. No wonder there are several lawsuits against them. All you need to do is google them and you will see several lawsuits and complaints. No wonder they deleted their google account. They own the propane tanks we rent on our property yet they charge $100 to send technician for possible leak. IRRESPONSABLE! In one month we have used more than in a year of propane. The Petro team has always been extremely responsive and with reasonable costs. Patient with their many questions and inquiries, and always responsive and kind. New boiler, new tanks, repaired a dangerous CO2 leak in the wee hours of a cold morning on an emergency call... exceptional response. Our experience has not been at all like what many of the negative comments here have noted, so take it as a legit positive one.... like a lot of Yelp commentary, remember most people come here to leave bad reviews, not good ones. Buyer Beware: The unit we had replaced was under warrant. Because they were unable to get parts quickly due to COVID we had to purchase a new heating unit even though the old unit was like I said under warranty. The new unit was installed. 3 years later our heating system is not heating. Petro only guarantees the system for 1 year. Our system is only 3 years old and should be under a manufacturer warrant. They will do nothing until we sign up for automatic oil services. There should be a law against this. I was with there auto services and found out they were ripping us off. read more

The technician, Joshua Golden was not successful isolating the issue to the one zone where the leak was occurring. He shut down all my heat to the first floor. He told me that petro home services would get back to me regarding my leaking zone. That promise was made at 10am. I finally called in at 6:30 pm to find out what was going on. DO NOT USE!!! Horrible. We've been customers for over a decade. And management has changed. We gad a leak last week and have a premier contract. They broke the contract by not fixing the issue. I had to repeatedly call. Customer service was b!tchy and rude to me immediately. Played mind games. They must all be protected by unions, so they feel like they can do whatever they want. They have no ability to be humble and just apologize. Huge fight on the phone. My lawyers will be handling the cancellation since they broke the contract. The techs even agreed with us that this company is now losing its customers due to poor management and customer service. No one even asked if they could offer us something to make up for this. I bought a home June 2023. Chose Petro as I've used them before. They may be more expensive but the service contract became so important. The furnace was problematic, much older that the 4 years on the disclosure. They did get it started again. Then it completely flooded in my crawl space and the furnace was inundated. during Christmas hols, very cold weather. Petro took great care of me and the furnace was replaced. discovered there was a sump pump. Before I could get that fixed, a week later we had flooding again, the new furnace underwater. Again service came out and got it working, during the same day, the sump pump was made serviceable also. and this summer the sump pump will be put in properly. phew! Living life circa 17th c is exhausting being cold all the time. Anyway now I'm toasty and never again will I complain about the cost of heat. Go without and see the difference! I've used the service at least 10 times at no additional cost. They are responsive, available 24/7 and all who come have been great. Thank you Petro. read more

The worst bunch of liars, had to pay 119$ for a visit for a " gas leak " had the town fire department come by with multiple gas sensors that were zeroed out , nothing on multiple gas sensors, but petro lied an said there was a propane leak on their sniffer , they couldn't even place the propane tank legally, we had to pay a company from CT to straighten their bullshit out , now , I'm up to Code, I wouldn't recommend petro to anyone read more

We bought a house in October and found out that Petro home heating oil service was the people who service our furnace so my fiance decided to go with the service that was already previously at the house plus the contract was still running with the oil company. In the middle of November just before Thanksgiving my heat went off I'm going to come back on I found out how to reset the furnace and I did that it happened to other times and then we called Petro to come and take a look at the oil tank. when Petros technician came in he drained a little bit of water out of the tank recommended moving the oil tank from the location it was in the basement and said he'll be back with a special drip pan for the furnace. but the technician never came back with an a special drip pan for the oil tank or for the furnace he never came back instead we had a sales guy come and tell us how much it would be for a new oil tank that's what we thought the guy came in took a few measurements talked for a few minutes. He reassured us that the tank is old yes but it is not in dire needs to be changed right away it can wait. he said let me go back to the office and I will get an estimate to use in your email. The guy never sends an email with an estimate for a new oil tank. Since December 23rd 2020 we have been calling Petro for oil delivery dates are scheduled delivery doesn't happen. The last phone call that we actually got information on was a phone call with the manager supposedly that said he would get on the phone with his salespeople and get right on top of this, sure enough someone did call did give us an estimate told us how much we needed to put down for them to start the work. We have set amount we've been calling and calling to get the oil tank replacement started so we can get oil cuz as of now I only have 30 gallons of oil and they will not deliver to us. And which makes it even difficult is there's two disabled people living in this house and a 12-year-old boy which is one of those disabled people. It seems like this company really doesn't care about community people the disabled so once are once our contract is up with them they are definitely not getting our business again and nobody else around here cuz I will spread the word how bad this company is. Check BBB. ORG before doing business, cause they seems to have a pattern of deceiving the customers. To end this just check out the bb.org or look under the attorney general's office. Better yet just file a complaint with the attorney general's office. Avoid this company if possible. Poor customer service, poor communication. 11-9 New tank installed by Petro installers 11-9 Installers had a problem with the installation and left for the next job, leaving me with no heat for the next 28 hours 11-9 Petro technician arrived late evening. Petro tech came and said the installers didn't bleed the line. He fixed that. 1 hour later the heat was out again. 11-10 The next Petro tech arrived and took hours troubleshooting everything, basically replacing everything new that the installers installed, other than the oil line and the tank itself. He left with the heat running. 11-11 Things ran ok for a few weeks... 12- 5 Email from Petro saying I was getting an oil delivery "within the week". 12-8 No heat again. The same Petro tech came back again and found that the new oil line didn't dip into the tank deep enough, so even though I had 40+ gallons, the pipe was just drawing air. He fixed that. 12-9 Next morning, no heat. Again. A different Petro tech came and tested everything done by everyone prior. He replaced the connection of the oil line into the tank, finding it had an air leak. He got it working again, but then it stopped. He found that the nozzle installed by the installers was wrong. He installed the proper nozzle and got everything running. 12-10 Since the last visit, knock on wood, everything has continued working. 12-14 Nine days since the "within the week" delivery email, still no oil. Called Petro, they said I was scheduled for delivery that day. Never happened. 12-15 Ten days since the "within the week" delivery email, still no oil. Called Petro early morning again. They didn't have an ETA for the delivery, but would have someone call me back. Nobody called. 12-15 Called Petro later that afternoon, I was told I would get a delivery tomorrow. By now I am under 1/8 tank. 12-16 Got a call in the morning saying that I was getting my delivery today. The delivery came around 11:30am...but to add insult to injury, the driver was out of oil and couldn't fill my tank. He ran out while filling my 275 gallon tank, he arrived with, in his words, "like 200" gallons...and 196 gallons later he was out. He said he would mark the delivery as incomplete so Petro would know to come sooner. read more

EXCELLENT! This was an install at my daughters home. We thought it was going to be quite an ordeal and in fact it was the best choice ever going with Petro Home Services! This company is exceptional in every aspect of what they do. Scheduling a home consultation with Nick Martin, we thought would be weeks out which is the response I got from other companies, Nick was there the next day! He explained in great detail what our options were and how the process would go. Working with Nancy Saballa in the office, such a pleasure to speak with, left messages she gets right back to you, she scheduled everyone involved in this install. The day of the install, contractors were on time, professional, worked so efficiently. The removal of old oil furnace, another contractor comes in to remove the oil tank, while the Petro installers John Hurst & John Nolan are working on installing the new TRANE high efficient gas system. It is something to truly see how smooth this went. All done in one day! Follow up call from the sales consultant Nick to see how the install is going, told him they were done. If you are willing to pay their prices, this company delivers oil as expected. They are available 24x7 and are very polite on the phone. (That's the best part of this review. Ready to go downhill?) When you get beyond your introductory price and it's time to renew, they provide you with a much higher price than their competition and much higher than you originally paid. It gets worse. When you call to cancel (call #1), they immediately offer your a reduced rate, with absolutely no quibbling. (so their automatic renewal price was a money grab.. first bad sign). When you then decide it is still higher than you can find elsewhere, and choose to cancel (call #2), they do their best to get you to stay with even further discounts. (so their automatic renewal price was a huge money grab!) When you finally are able to cancel with them, you then receive an automatic renewal notice letter in the mail. When you call to find out why you received this letter (call #3) they tell you (they actually say this): "Oh that was an initial cancel request, it hasn't been finalized. It needs to be finalized. We'll need to get you to someone for that". When you tell them that when a customer cancels, it IS final, they don't understand what you mean. As if in every situation in life you must cancel twice with every service you have. When you finally get to someone to cancel , they again do their best to learn why you cancelled and try to get you to renew - again - even though you have clearly informed them that not only did you sign up with another company a month ago, but because of their high pressure sales tactics you have zero interest in them ever again. Once you are able to finalize your cancelation.. (think you're done? - nope) you then get a random call about 3 months later looking to offer you a great deal on oil delivery. This so far, is where my story ends. I have asked them AGAIN to remove me from their calling list. We will see if they call again.. I really did NOT want to leave a poor review for them. I do not believe it is productive to do so and in a moment of frustration it is not worth leaving a permanent bad mark... At this point, I'm not sure how else to make my point to them about their business practices. I asked them approx. 5 times if the rates are comparable and was assured repeatedly that they were. They straight out lie!! The last delivery I received I was charged almost $5.00 a gallon and when I called my previous company, the going rate that day was $3.38!! When I phoned and questioned this I was told that their rate would ALWAYS be $1 to $1.50 more per gallon!! I could not recommend staying away from this company enough. We have been a customer for years and last night received possibly the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. Our oil tank ran low about a week ago. As a result of this we wound up with a clogged Filter/Nozzle. This is a simple fix. We had no heat/hot water for a couple of days but were making due. We received oil from another company as the prices at Petro were completely outrageous, however were now dealing with the issue above. I called in for service last night and was promptly told that my account had been cancelled. The person I spoke with (Sheila V.) told me that my fiancée had called in months ago and told them that we were moving out, cancelling our account, and having tenants move in. This was news to both of us, as we sat in the cold living room at this address. Despite the fact that this was a clear error on their part they refused to assist us. The original "pitch" was that we needed an account to get service. When I made it clear to them that we never closed our account, they then told us we needed to be signed up for their automatic delivery to receive service. When I told them that I had oil in the tank and could not take a delivery they would not help us. I then gave up, and told them that I would sign up for the automatic delivery (at their ridiculous prices), but could not take any oil at this time. Once again, the goalposts were moved on me. I was now told that I needed to have a delivery this week or they would not do service. I offered to allow them to deliver 10 gallons, as we couldn't take any more and had been sitting in the cold for days and Sheila basically laughed me off. She told me that, now, unless they could deliver a full tank, because per their estimates based on no factual information of our usage, we "should" be completely empty they would need to deliver a full tank this week or we couldn't receive service. I was, literally, trying SO hard to give this company my business and money, but they wouldn't take it. This company is a joke. A sham, manipulating numbers and facts to bend customers to their whim. I am writing in hopes to save other first time customers from making the same mistake I did. I signed up for automatic delivery and a service plan through Petro and to date do not see any value in them. Any first time credit you receive will be made up for in the price of your first oil delivery. Two times I scheduled service and two times I had a no show. If you are able to get a technician to come to your residence there will be nothing that is actually covered by the service plan. My personal experience is that Petro is in the business of taking advantage of vulnerable consumers. They take the interest of making a buck over the desire to build a long standing business reputation with customers. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. read more

I got my service fees refunded, paid the remainder of the balance from my last delivery and believed I was all set. Dylan said I was sll set. HOWEVER....the very next day, they came and delivered 100 gallons of oil and are trying to stick me with am $800 bill. Now who in their right mind would do this????? UNBELIEVABLE! When I contacted them they told me I have to pay for the delivery I DID NOT SCHEDULE AND DID NOT NEED. I had 150 gallons in my tank. Why would I fill up the rank if I sold my house?!?! Terrible company. Dishonest, manipulative, and flat out theft of customers. Have been a faithful customer for many years only to recently receive nearly 200g of heating oil at almost $2g over average state price for the week. Called to cancel account and had to wait 2hrs for a rep who then informed that their "Customer Loyalty" department handles cancellations and they would call us back within 24-48 hours to complete. Meanwhile, someone at the company MANUALLY and illegally enter our cancelled autopay credit card for a monthly payment that was not even necessary due to a credit balance on our account. How this company stays in business is a mystery to me. We have several attorney's in our family, so they'll be regretting this move soon enough. read more

Bought a new house and boiler had been serviced by Petro so figured we would stay with them at least at first. In the first month, we have had 5 repair folks come out. It is nice to be able to have a repair person come within 12 hours or so (although they usually come an hour or two after the 4 hour window given has ended). But most seem completely incompetent-one even switched the boiler off after diagnosing the problem and never turned it back on on a 20 degree day so we had to call them back and wait a bunch of hours with no heat for them to come back (we never thought to look at the switch because it never occurred to us a repair person could leave it off!)! For the most recent issue, last night at 1 am a guy came, spent 1 minute at the boiler, said it was a "loose wire" even though we told him that the last guy who had come the night before had said it would be a valve issue of the problem didn't resolve, snapped at us when we said that and guess what? Issue still not resolved and we are waiting for someone once again. No use paying for Petro service if half the service people we have had generally seem to struggle with fixing the issue. UPDATE: issue finally fixed and supervisor came out along with the technician after seeing how much trouble we have had (we did not request this-he contacted us and came on his own). Glad to know that a supervisor will get involved at a certain point if the issue is not resolved. read more
