I live a mile away, drove right over and was assisted by Brendan. Since it was lunchtime, I was told I would receive a call as soon as everyone was back and was offered a ride home (very sweet, but it was just a quick walk). Darren called me an hour later with the news that my muffler was good.... but I needed a new catalytic converter. Yikes. He ordered the parts right away (2:30 on Thursday afternoon) and my car was ready 24 hours later. They have photos and videos of what your car needs, Darren and I talked about how this is a great, honest tool for everyone involved (EVERY business should have this!). I am grateful they could get my car in right away, and I'm confident I found a new place for all types of repairs. Pull up and I realize pretty quick it's a discount tire shop that sells bootleg brands which tbf im sure fits some people's needs just fine. There are zero other cars there being worked on. It's just one guy in an office when I get there. Dude looks at my tire for a solid 2 seconds, walks back to the office and tells me I need two brand new tires. I tell him the tires themselves are only about a year or so old and are technically under warranty (BJs makes it impossible to actually use the warranty which is another story). He tells me the tires are too worn (not even remotely true) and the only way this will work is by replacing both front tires. Politely declined, went elsewhere, got one single tire replaced that day with no theatrics.

I thought I had blown a tire, so I got off the highway and, by pure luck, pulled into Medford Gas & Service. Victor was just about to leave for the day, but he stayed late to help me. Within minutes, he found the actual cause of the problem that had been missed before and stayed even later to fix it so I could safely get back on the road. I can't thank Victor and the team enough. They are some of the kindest, most honest people I've ever met, and they truly went above and beyond. I'll only be bringing my car here from now on. He didn't say anything when he finished fueling my car, just looked at me, confused, waving me on. When he came to my window I said "Can I get a receipt or something?" I've bought tires and wheels from Hogan in Beverly for over 30 years. Today I went in for a simple…read morewheel/tire swap (winter to summer), something Hogan has done for me on my cars for years. For the first time ever, 3 of the staff inspected my summer tires and claimed they were dangerous with early 'dry rot' detected and refused to swap the tires, suggesting I needed 4 new ones. The date code was Feb-16, making the tires 8 years old. They claimed that DOT law prohibited them from swapping them. I can find no proof of that online, only 'suggestions'. They have maybe 8K on them and are in excellent condition, with no detectable deterioration and min 3/4 tread depth left. I am a car guy and keep my vehicles in top shape. I stopped using Direct Tire in the '80s when I witnessed multiple 'up-selling' scenarios while waiting for tire service - 'did you know your brakes are dangerous?' 'Let me show you why you need new shocks', etc. I suspect that Hogan staff is now incentivized to do the same - there's a new crew there. I'm never going back. Good luck trading on ignorance and fear, guys.

I brought it back in to examine results, I needed a new compressor. Luckily I have a warranty for my car. The lovely girl at the desk contacted them and worked everything out coverage and costs wise. They were even able to take my car THAT DAY for the repair. Quick service answered my questions (I do NOT know cars or repairs!) I will definitely be back when I can, when needed. As a woman, I especially appreciated the way they handled everything. Before any work was done, their office manager, Ann Marie, was fantastic. I needed to get my car running again, the check engine light off, and the parking brake fixed, so I could sell it. They were able to get the car running again, however the engine light was still on. This was about 400 bucks. When I pointed this out, they said they could take it back in to figure it out later in the week. I brought it back in, and found out a week later that they fixed the parking brake, but still didn't get the check engine light off. They had replaced some parts while trying to figure it out. This was 1100 bucks. I was then told that they have a friend with a different code reader that might be able to help them figure out the issue, and he'd have availability within the week. More than a week goes by, I call for an update, I'm told the friend is sick but will be better soon and can get it done. Since I'm already into the repair for a ton, I'm hoping that they might do right by me. Two more weeks go by, I hear nothing. Finally, I find another shop to take my car to. They get the check engine light off for 300 bucks, give or take. I figured that I learned an expensive lesson, and was going to let sleeping dogs lie, until the caliper they replaced during the parking brake work came loose, wore a hole through my rim, and caused a flat tire. I'm lucky it didn't happen on the highway or I'd probably have wrecked. This was about two and a half months after the work was done. To sum it up, they bit off more than they could chew with the majority of my repair, and instead of admitting it was beyond what they could fix, they spent my money. Go elsewhere.
