Fave place for a burger & tots! Been coming here for years now. Inside dining area is small but cozy!

If you're gonna charge that much for a particular item please if it's good I don't mind but if you're gonna charge four dollars for tater tots and it's no bigger than my fist the order that's just completely wrong and I hope that other people say something about it the quality to the price not good not good at all. I used to enjoy coming to this place, but anymore the service is mediocre and the food will be decent or outright bad. (I came somewhat near closing(10), 8:30 to be exact.)I tried their double burger meal, and every item I received was lackluster. The fries were undercooked, soggy and cold. The burger was well done, over charred and lukewarm. Even the coke I received was almost water. I would not recommend this place anymore sadly. read more

I can definitely appreciate this place. Your food is made to order so nothing will sit under those heat lamps. The service is excellent. Also enjoy their pastrami sandwich. The pastrami was different from what you get at the other places but definitely better and very good. read more

On my first trip to Lubbock, my babe and I dropped into his old stomping grounds favorite ... Pete's Drive In. He had been talking about it with so much excitement that I couldn't wait to see what they had to offer. The young lady at the register was pleasant and took our orders expeditiously, but one thing to note that many restaurants don't mention ( like this Restaurant also did ) is the addition of a charge for substitutions... the waitress neglected to inform me that there would be a charge for swapping out the salad for tater tots, but for a .50 charge, this fee wasn't going to break the bank. "The Entrees" We ordered the chicken quesadilla with tater tots for me and the babe had the hamburger steak with onions and gravy, corn, French fries and a side salad ( tip: please dice your tomatoes and remove the skin). We settled into our bench and after fighting the flies for what seemed a good 15 minutes ...the food arrived. The place wasn't too packed and the food was decent, (filled the hunger void) but nothing to write home about. I can see why the babe said he visited it back in the day and the establishment fit the scene of something that I'm sure kids would enjoy... All in all I agree with some of the other Yelpers, I see a lot of room for improvement in the menu and presentation but the staff was very nice. I would definitely try to speed up on the serving aspect especially when the establishment is empty and again ... presentation was a bit lacking... the quesadilla was packed with cheese and if I was hungry it would have hit the spot, but just didn't desire it enough to finish ... the tater tots were okay and he seemed to enjoy his food... Really disappointed. First of all, we had a slightly large order so decided to call it in. They asked if we would pay it over the phone, however we were paying cash. So, they said they would make it when we came to pay, which totally defeated the purpose of calling it in. We paid and waited 30 minutes. Thought it would be fresh. The chicken strips were like jerky and looked like they had been thrown in the fryer twice. Tater tots extremely over done and gross. I had to tell them they forgot all of the fries (three total, for the meals we got) and an entree of chili cheese fries. Ordered fried pickle spears. We got a very small amount. They forgot the veggies for a Frito pie. Put the wrong kind of cheese that I didn't ask for on the CC fries. We paid almost $80. Won't be returning, as this was the second chance we them after a previous less than satisfactory order with super burned tots... read more

Had an awesome first experience! Was pleasantly surprised when we saw they had fried green beans, which turned out awesome, and it only improved from there. The cashier was nice and very helpful when it came to our questions about the menu. The food came out quickly and tasted great. I split a hamburger and the chili cheese tots with nacho cheese and I couldn't have been happier when we left. Can't wait to come back and try more! read more

I was hungry for mashed potatoes. Today's special for Saturday is steak fingers, so that is what I ordered. I said with green beans but got corn. That was ok because it was fresh & good. I got mashed potatoes, gravy, salad, Texas toast. It was very good. The steak fingers are like chicken fried steak cut into 4 pieces. I am so full. It came with a drink also. read more

We wanted to at lunch today at Pete's drive In. We stood at the counter long enough for someone to take our orders about 12:30. No one took our order. At least 2 employee's and the manager saw us. Two women who just finished their lunch wanted drink refills. Same thing with them, no one helped them. read more

Ridiculously rude staff. Lady at the front desk tried to blame me because she got my order incorrect. She refused to try to make it right and she slammed the window on me. The food was bland too. Learn to hire staff that have manners. Maybe it's a management issue. read more

I came from out of town to visit my daughter and she raved about Pete's. We get to the door and it's closed. Looked on the outside of the window and the open light was on. My son-in-law says the sign says they're open until 5:00 today. I looked at my watch and it was 4:35. There were people sitting in the restaurant and lady gives me the we're closed symbol. I mouthed your sign says 5:00 it's 4:35. She gives me the nonchalant not going to happen look, so we loaded up and left. Not worth the time. --- Update: I'm increasing my review to three stars from two, based on the owner's response seen below, as well as my next visit to Pete's. I did go back, and this time the food was much better. The service was also very good. Still, it's just not one of my choices for a spot to have a burger. Haven't eaten here in 40 years but it's not the same fresh deli sliced pastrami sub. Fried on the the flat grill, barely a squirt of mustard. Cold and blah. Driving around the back there is a nasty dirty mop bucket, and other trash. Employee telling a story and everyone listening to him instead of getting my food to me as I had already given my number and was waiting. Won't be back. read more

I have loved Pete's for years when it was South of Lubbock on University. I came here expecting the same. 3/13/13 We ordered 3 burgers/tots. It took 31 minutes to get our order! There were 4 orders ahead of us. This would be understandable except they had to correct the three orders ahead of us and ours was wrong also. I didn't bother having them correct it, I just ate it how it was. :( If you're going to take 31 minutes to make our burgers, at least make them correctly. They didn't give us our drinks when we ordered so we had nothing to drink while waiting. Then when we asked for our drinks they messed that up as well, tried to give us water instead of soda. Overall it was really a bad experience. They didn't even apologize for the wait or offer anything. The food was good. Thank goodness! We will not return. read more

I should have read the other reviews first. This was my first time here today. Let me say the food is okay, but it took TWENTY-FIVE minutes to cook three burgers and fries. And they got the order wrong. Sorry Petes, you get one star for messing up my order and taking too long. The sign on the front window said they opened at 10:30am. The open sign was not lit but it was 10:25. The rudest, nastiest Hispanic woman opened the window and said in a nasty, sarcastic tone "we are closed, that's why the sign isn't on." I said, as nice as I could that I would be happy to wait the five minutes so that I could order. She then rolled her eyes and looked at me like I was an idiot while telling me that they open at 11:00 and that the sign I was looking at was old. How was I to know that? Probably one of the worst burgers in town. My bottom bun was soggy and the patty's were very greasy. The tarot tots weren't crispy and lacked flavor. Their prices are way too high for the product they sell. If you're looking for a good burger I'd avoid this overpriced joint all together. read more

Rude staff. They forget to call my number, I drive up to the window, they forget to drop poppers. Then while I'm waiting they ask me to go back and wait at the end of the line (there are at least 3 cars behind me) I say look at all the cars, can I just come in? Then immediately, somehow my food is ready. I get home and the order is wrong. I call up there and they tell me if I want it fixed, I have 24 hours to drive all the way back over there and they can make it again... but I have to bring the burger they made because "that's how we do here". I've gone to this place for a few years. The food can be good, but it's way too expensive for me to bring home food that I didn't order just to be told I need to spend more of my time so they can correct their mistakes. $16 for a burger and poppers.
