Best kettle corn in the East Bay! The flavors are so tasty - my favorites are the cheddar cheese, sea salted caramel, and tomato basil. There are several other fun, seasonal, and classic flavors (horchata, kettle, spicy lime chipotle, peppermint chocolate). The most recent time I went, there was a box of 8 different flavors for $30 if you can't decide. They sell a variety of popular set flavors in small, medium and large. You can also customize your flavors- mixed or separated. The first time I went I got a couple of their $20 tins where you can get up to 3 different flavors. Next time you return and show the tins, you get the same amount of popcorn for $12. Great deal!It's more expensive than your usual run of the mill commercial popcorn, but I love supporting my local Oakland business while savoring some amazingly huge and tasty hand-popped kernels. Although my first true love for popcorn is Garrett's, Peter's could slide into my DMs any day. I really love their Oakland mix and I will say I would rank it very highly compared to other popcorn due to its unique 'kick' of spice that goes well with any of their flavors. Importantly, their kettle corn is amazing and strikes a balance of salty but not overly sweet or fatty. By this point in my popcorn eating career, I must have consumed gallons of Peter's and I am a repeat customer who is always getting his tins filled. Pleasantly surprised by the quality of Peter's! First day of school back at SJSU! Lots of students were walking around the plaza, so the line was long for the cute little kiosk. However, the line was so quick!!! I even ended up getting in line TWICE because the line was zooming by. They were giving out three varieties for SJSU Students: Kettle Corn, Cheddar, and Sour Cream Onion. My favorite was definitely the cheddar! It was creamy, buttery, and did the job well. I've walked by the store a few times in Oakland and frankly been turned off by the thought of eating pre-made popcorn that you don't know how long it's been sitting in those large containers, so I didn't look further. That, is until they had a tent at the San Carlos Art & Wine Fair this year. They had the kettle set up so it appeared they had made that popcorn earlier in the day on-site vs bringing it pre-made from Oakland. We had been disappointed by other caramel corn sellers that summer but this looked solid. And it was. Wow! Kernels were well coated (and salted) making it highly addictive and delicious. It's actually more salty than I would've liked - put you in a doozy especially in the heat - but good in controlled, smaller quantities. They also let us mix and match flavors (no additional charge). There are very few places I can go where I dont feel lost going into Oakland...and Im glad Peters kettle corn is on MacArthur blvd; which is one big blvd in a circle I can navigate. Today fortunately my mom had a meeting to go to so I was available to chauffer her then go kick it around Oakland for a couple hours while waiting for her. So far, my current faves are the Classic Kettle Corn and Saigon Cinnamon. The Classic Kettle Corn was slightly sweet with a hint of salt. I wasn't really sure about the Saigon Cinnamon until I gave it a second bite. The second bite turned into third and fourth. The flavor reminded me of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal but instead of the cereal crunch, it's more of a lightly popped popcorn. I found the popcorn here to be fresh and light even though we came around 3pm (2hrs after they've opened). We ordered a bag of every flavor but somehow we didn't get the spicy cheddar. Besides how good kettle corns are compared to popcorns, what I like about Peter's is that it isn't overly sweet and it isn't overly salty compared to other kettle corns I have had. Other than that, they also have other flavors like smokey, chilli lime, cheddar, bacon cheese, etc. It really depends on your preference and they do provide samples for you to try before you decide what size you want. You can also mix them in your bags or have them layer it in the bags. Yes, they cost a little more here compared to the kettle corns you can get from farmer's market or at fairs, but there's a reason why - it's the quality you pay for, and how Peter's kettle corn taste good and how do I put it - clean : it doesn't taste yucky after eating them and I think it's because of the ingredients they use. read more

My husband and I are on a Stomper Safari throughout Oakland. The Stomper sighting is in celebration of the Oakland A's being here for 50 years (1968 to 2018). Our adventure started at another location in East Oakland. Stomper is in front of Peter's Kettle Corn. First, I have to take a few photos of Stomper before heading into their brick and mortar for the first time for some popcorn. I purchased their popcorn many times in the past at different events (concerts at Crab Cove, Christmas lighting ceremony, Yelp's Nifty Fifty, etc.) I sampled the smoked barbecue popcorn. I could not taste and/or detect the barbecue flavor in the popcorn. I could not do the "keep your bland a** popcorn to yourself, Karen." That would be totally wrong since I love Peter's Kettle Corn. (Don't wanna hear anybody telling me, "ya ain't even right for dissing the business).Thus, I went for my stand by, the classic. Husband selected the cheddar cheese flavored popcorn. Both flavors were excellent. Gotta love a good popcorn shop! They're open right now during the pandemic for window service, which makes for some great quarantine snacks! You can mix and match flavors in one bag which is kinda nice so you can try more than one flavor, but you also have to make sure to pick flavors that would mesh well. That's what I thought at least - my husband picked spicy chipotle lime and caramel corn, which I don't think goes well but it didn't seem to intermix much since the spicy chipotle lime was really light on seasoning! I wish it had more of a kick personally. The caramel corn was my favorite of the two, but how can you go wrong with any caramel corn?! This small, unassuming company has no rival in my heart. I've tried several flavors and loved each one so far. The popcorn is always fresh, made In-house, and sold with a smile. They let you sample whatever is in the large display, except for the premium popcorn which is the maple-bacon flavor (another winning indulgence). They also cater for parties or special events so come grab a tub/bucket load to make everyone happy! My personal favorites includes the cheddar+chili lime mix (lovingly called the "Oakland mix" because so many people request that combo), Sea-salt caramel,horchata, as well as regular kettle corn. Going to pick up a bag of fresh kettle or caramel popcorn never gets old or stale as they say at Peter's Kettle Corn. Locally owned and operated and staying true to its roots by remaining located in the up and coming yet still very grounded Laurel District towards the Oakland Hills, Peter's Kettle Corn provides the perfect snack for yourself or gift for loved ones. I have been coming to Peter's for years and have been able to experience them at corporate functions, farmer's markets, and other events and it never gets old when I see their logo. The last time in which I came was on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and I knew a knew a couple bags would make for a good party mixer. Thankfully they were still open by the time I got there with traffic and finding a spot in the street, and they still had a lot of options available including their classic flavors like sea salt caramel, kettle corn, and cheddar cheese. They also had unique flavors available like sea salted seaweed and caramel pumpkin spice. I learned that many of these unique flavors are considered "seasonal" so they are only available for a limited time for roughly four weeks at a time. The interior of the store is brick inlay which makes it warm and inviting which made my decision on what to order all the more harder especially with prices still being reasonably priced after all of these years, including $6.50 for a medium bag of their Classic Kettle Corn and $8.50 for all of the rest of their gourmet flavored popcorns. They do give samples at Peter's and the one I really wanted to try was their Sea Salted Seaweed flavor and was not impressed as the flavor really stuck on your palette for a significant amount of time. In deciding what to order for my holiday dinner, I made the realization that many people going to my party were not going to enjoy the unique savory flavors that Peter's offers on any given day so I decided to go with the tried and true and ordered one medium bag of Classic Kettle Corn which at $6.50 is a real steal and one medium bag of their Sea Salted Caramel bag. I was able to sample the seaweed They always ask if you want your bag open or closed, open so you can already eat it or closed so it can be saved and preserved to open at a future time. I decided to go with closed because I wanted to make sure once they were opened everything still had a crunch to it, which two weeks later with what is left in my bag certainly still has that crunch there thankfully. I also learned that for an additional cost, you can also mix your purchase by layering your flavors in your bag, but none of the savory selections really spoke to me on this day. But rest assured they change them out every two months so new flavors are already here in early December! All said my total cost was 15 dollars for two huge bags of sweetly flavored popcorn! They even have a punch card if you buy 9 bags you get one free. And that is a real steal for something so unique and tasty that everyone will love to just try a handful of! The only request that I have of Peter's is that they consider opening additional locations, as they are a success and deserve to have others enjoy in this success, but around this time of year they thankfully have a holiday pop-up in the Oakland City Center which is perfect for people who take public transportation. Peter's Kettle Corn so good it needs to be discovered by more of the local population so that expansion becomes a real possibility! read more

We received a 2 gallon tin of popcorn during the 2021 holidays and when I had my first bite of the Oakland Mix, it was like popcorn and spices were making love in my mouth. I proceeded to mix handfuls of the Classic Kettle Corn, Oakland Mix, and Sea Salted popcorn into my mouth. The kids had to tell me to stop. Not because of my health, because they wanted to stuff their mouths full of popcorn too. We've been back two times since, and upgraded to also bring on over the 1 gallon tin to the party. I religiously follow Peter's Kettle Corn on Instagram, and I eagerly await his flavors of the week. So far, my favorite is the traditional ol' cheese popcorn and their caramel corn. However, this holiday season, I got to try their matcha popcorn, which is amazingly matcha-fied; their pepermint popcorn, which pleasantly had specks of peppermint dotting each kernel; their caramel bacon, which was my least favorite, but hey, everyone has to have a least favorite; their horchata, a treat indeed!, and many more seasonal flavors. I appreciate the unique, creative flavors that Mr. Peter comes up with. The only gripe I have was with one of the employees there. We dropped by on a rainy Sunday morning, and asked if they had any matcha popcorn. To our dismay, girl said that they had sold out. Luckily, THANKFULLY her more helpful coworker took pity on us and said that they were making fresh batches of matcha popcorn in the back (!!!) and that he would bag some up for us. My husband and Peter went to college together, and it's so great to see his business grow over the years.
