It's been a while since my last visit and it was disappointing. The prices have increased, the quality of the food has gone down and the service needs improvement. Today's visit started off having to wait longer than usual to just place our order. After the drink server had to tell the waitress that we had been waiting, did she make her way to our table. The restaurant was only half full, so it wasn't super busy. Once our order was taken, it took about another 20 minutes. My wife and I ordered ground beef and eggs. It was a basic hamburger patty that was uncooked in the center,raw and bloody. Another waitress returned the dishes and returned about 15 minutes with a new patty on the plate but now the eggs were cold. Tempted to just leave we ate it and left with no tip. I try to help local small businesses but when things like this happen it makes it hard to return. This place is a roll of a dice. read more

It's been over 10 years since I last ate here with my family. Nothing has changed (and that is a good thing... well maybe the prices). It is a classic diner that brings you straight back to the 60's. I really love the classic diner ambiance. Today my husband and I share a mushroom and cheese omelette and a veggie omelette with sourdough toast and a half stack of banana walnut pancakes....it was great! OH MY GOD!!!! I forgot how good sausage gravy and biscuits could be!!! Soooo grateful the waitress encouraged me to order it as an appetizer while waiting for my Dutch Baby Apple Pancake. I haven't had biscuits and gravy this good in many years. The biscuit was soooo nice fluffy, soft, and moist just as a biscuit should be, pure perfection! Don't get me started on the gravy though!!!! It's made in house and the sausage is soooo perfectly seasoned and the meat to sauce ratio is on point. It was just the ideal comfort food nice hot dish. Definitely will be back to try their hot link sausage and gravy with biscuits!!! The restaurant itself is a very classic old time American diner vibe. This is a great breakfast spot! I haven't been to this restaurant in a LONG time but recently had a family get together there. I can't believe I don't eat breakfast here more often! Their bacon and eggs where amazing! The bacon was prepared just how I like it! Not greasy in the slightest. The hashbrowns where very well seasoned! My brother ordered the German Baby. That thing was MASSIVE! However it took like an hour to make, I appreciated that the server let us know this before it was placed. That wasn't my kind of dish but if you are into that sort of thing and have the time, definitely give it a try! I mean there isn't much more to say about Peter's! Old school diner with a bit of a Hawaiian flair. We loved the retro interior and the fact that were saw loco moco on the menu! So the reason we came across this place was because we had 30 mins to kill while waiting for my car's smog test across the street. It was certainly a very cozy spot to hang out early friday morning. We were greeted and seated right away. The host was wearing a Hawaiian shirt and there were some tropical flowers on the wall. Besides the loco moco we got turkey benedicts. The hollandaise was tasty and the turkey was tender. Hate when turkey is dry but this was just right. The hollandaise was a little on the chunkier side which is not my fav, but the flavor was spot on. The loco moco was really good!!! And loved that it had fresh scallion. We were ask how we'd like the meat cook and we chose medium. Very good and would come back here for it again :) read more

At Peter's Cafe everything I've ever had there has been delicious, but I'm partial to breakfast, and Peter's Café is one of the best breakfast places on the Peninsula, and there aren't that many anymore. Sometimes i just crave bacon. The bacon there is phenomenal. Bacon with eggs, with waffles or a BLT. Love it. parking is easy. The people are wonderful and accommodating. The service is fast. The place is comfortable with an homey warm feeling. And it has the best handicap bathroom I have ever seen. I'm not handicapped but this is still really excellent to see. Check it out. read more

Peter's has survived about two decades of a proposed demolition, so eat here while you still can. There have been a few proposals to redevelop this block, and for whatever reason, nothing has happened. Fortunately, Peter's has stuck it out, providing traditional diner food at a reasonable price. Everything on the menu is good, and they try to keep the prices down. It's your typical old-school diner fare, but the service is friendly even though it can be reasonably busy here. There's free parking, but if you're a BART or Caltrain commuter, it's just outside the station's west entrance. The pancakes are delicious. One of my favs is the cold veggie sandwich. The chili is excellent too. They have beer and wine. read more

I've been coming here for years and just walking in makes me feel at home. The decor is a little dated, but that is part of the charm. I almost exclusively come here for breakfast or lunch and they do breakfast and lunch very well. I often go to other restaurants with my foodie friends, but I feel Peters has the right combination of attentive and friendly wait staff serving delicious traditional food. Also, many of their dishes have a yeah Hawaiian influence that I appreciate. As more and more of my favorite restaurants close for various reasons I hope Peter's hangs in there as one of the last of a dying breed. read more

I wish I could give a negative zero stars. My husband and I left before our order arrived. While sitting on the booth waiting for our food I saw a cockroach crawling behind my husband's head on the wall. I flagged down the staff but she was too stupid to look and was pretended not to know what I was saying. The booth behind me pointed to yet another cockroach on the same wall in the booth. By this time other staff arrived and proceeded to kill the cockroach with what they had in hand (someone's bill and cash). As the woman proceeded to kill the cockroach, two more cockroaches emerged from within the booth where my husband was sitting. Naturally both my husband and I jumped out the booth. NEVER once did the staff apologize. Instead they asked if we wanted to switch seats. SERIOUSLY?! We said BYE but not before we shook off our jackets. Thus far the best breakfast cafe around. Their menu has a lot of selections. I get the turkey benedict which I have never seen as an option before and it is out if this world!! And it's huge. I always have leftovers. The flavor is there and they don't skimp on the protein. They know how to make hash browns perfectly crispy without burning them like several breakfast places in the neighborhood do. And the middle is not undercooked potato, it's perfect. The service is welcoming and they ALWAYS come by to see how everything is going after you get your food. It's been around since forever so definitely could use a make over but it's not necessary since the food is dog on good. And it's huge. I would feel comfortable ordering anything off of the menu. Wow! I was traveling tired of all the fast food. Found Peter's cafe and stopped by for breakfast. I got the "Loco Moco" and it was definitely different and tasty. Steak & eggs over rice topped with gravy. Also 2 pancakes that were above average too. I arrived at 7:00 just when they opened and sat at the counter- the waitress was so pleasant and the atmosphere felt very easy and homey. Have been wanting to try this place given the 70's vibe, prime location and all the kitch of the nearby MPH, but no, it's just an ok version of a diner that's been around for too long. Had the "Peter's scramble", basically a meatier version of the world-famous Joe's Special. Decent version and pretty good. Crepes were devoured across the table and the spaghetti and meatballs were fine. Liver and onions was pretty dry, so overall a fine food experience. Highlight of the menu was the senior section where you have to be 59.99 years old to get a discount and "No fake IDs please". Service was weird, with a long delay to order with only 2 other tables in the place. And then a lot of disappointment as we ordered (kids didn't apparently order enough veggies). Not the worst, but definitely not the best and probably won't wind up back here anytime soon. read more

For those of us old enough to remember eating at places like this with our parents, simply walking in brings a wave of nostalgia. The food is not gourmet but roadside diners were never meant to be high class establishments. If memory serves me correctly, the current ownership took over the restaurant a couple of decades ago. Part of the charm is that they have changed very little during the years. Peter's Cafe is just the place for weary travelers. We had been up since early morning. We had driven two hours to an American Cancer Society Fundraiser in Millbrae and spent three hours doing our thing to entertain the people there. We were tired and hungry. Peter's Cafe was just what we needed. Service was very good. My wife enjoyed her BLT and the fries that I stole from her plate passed the very good test, they were very good when cold. I had the daily special: Chorizo Scramble Quesadilla. My mouth is watering just think about it. Yes, I would have changed it a bit if I were preparing it; but, for this weary hungry musician, it was perfect. I have noticed that the cost of eating at a restaurant has gone up a bit in the last decade; however, I would rather pay a few dollars more to be served than to eat at a drive thru. This landmark Café has been around since... Forever. There is certainly a reason for this. There's three things here: location, value, and good food. Maybe not the highest ranking on all three points, but the balance amongst them has this place cemented in a solid foundation that has stood the test of time. Let me explain. It goes like this... You arrive into SFO airport after a long flight and you're hungry. You collect your bags and get your rental car but you're still hungry. Where do you go? Peter's Cafe. It's close by and easy to get to. They're quick, friendly, and satisfying with comforting dishes that you know. There decor may be a bit dated and the street may be a bit busy, but once inside and you have a cup of hot coffee or tea in your hands it all melts away. The service is friendly and quick. There menu has many staples of American fare that will satisfy most everyone in your party. Their specials vary and they can even come up with some custom (reasonable) meals for you. There are two areas where they are not quick. Believe me this is important. One is their fresh baked bread. Yes, they make their own bread. Get it hot and fresh from the oven and you'll swear your in an exotic small town bakery. They bake once or twice a week so call ahead if your curious if the oven is busy making your mouth water. Number two is when they are not baking their fresh bread you can order their Dutch Oven Baby Pancakes. These are made to order and can take about a half hour, so you may want to order ahead. But if not-- it's worth the wait. OMG. These are sinfully delicious. They offer two varieties. The first is the traditional plain with powdered sugar and lemon. The second is apple cinnamon with brown sugar. Either one is a perfect choice. The name of Dutch Baby Pancakes is a bit of a misnomer. The portions are actually rather large which is a good thing for two reasons. One- you can eat as much as you like and still have left overs. Two- you do not have to stab anyone for stealing any of your heaven-on-a-plate because there's plenty to go around. You can leave with a full and happy tummy, with left overs, and not heading to jail. What a great deal! Even when family is picking you up from the airport or YOU are the one picking someone to from the airport, this is always my go to first stop for any hungry travelers. read more
