I've been coming here over the past 10 years and every experience I've had has been wonderful. I just called for an appointment and was so surprised to get in so quickly. Dr. Karlsberg and his staff are always so kind and friendly. I can't believe these negative reviews! I feel bad that I never gave his office a positive review when I could have so many times. I'm coming in to get some broken capillaries removed from my nose and chin. I'll post before and after photos so check for my updated review. I'm going in next week. Here's my before photo. I promise to be very honest in my review. I truly hope this whole "negative reviews" thing is in no way a reflection on his office because some people can get very emotional when they don't get the answers they want. I truly wish they (those reviewers) found a doctor that told them what was going on with them. I'll be back next week with updates. But I know this doctor is amazing. He loves caring for his patients. I have broken capillaries or spider veins on my face. Thanks to genetics in my family and loving the sun. I am a patient here but hadn't been seen in 3 years. My wife sees Dr Karlsberg multiple times a year. I went to make an appointment and they said since it's been over 3 years they consider me a new patient and I can't be seen for another 6 MONTHS. What sort of bass ackwards policy is this? The front desk lady was also quite rude about this policy. Edit: I tried to find out exactly why they lied and claimed I didn't agree with a diagnosis. It sounds like the go to lie these days, because I never disagreed with any diagnosis. In fact, he never gave me one. He only could guess as to a possible dermatitis. That's fine. I was asking an unrelated question about what you call a certain skin defect, he misunderstood, then said he didn't know, the end. Instead of it being the end of it, they banned me. The high and mighty receptionist even tried to claim they have a record of why. I actually do. I save all texts, calls, and what they didn't know is I audio record all doctor appointments of any type. So, no, I have the proof otherwise. The truth is he doesn't like questions. He isn't comfortable with what he hasn't studied for. Just say you don't know and be willing to learn. What is with the god complex pride of doctors these days. Just called to try to get information on what insurance this office takes and was put on hold upon calling( which is absolutely okay) but when the receptionist came back her tone was unfriendly and when I asked her if they took my insurance she said " well I need more information than that, what does your card say" so I said I would go get it ( in my bag next to me ) and her response was " okay well then I am going to put you back on hold because I have other clients to take care of" so I let her know that I was no longer interested since that really isn't an appropriate response and her tone was out of line for the situation. Maybe look else where if you want even decent customer service for basic answers. read more

I decided to book for a second visit (2023), although my first visit wasn't stellar. I arrived a few minutes early as I strive to always do for any appointment. I was greeted by the office staff, paid my co-pay, and was taken to the room quickly. From that point, I waited 45 minutes AGAIN! A member of Dr. Karlsberg's staff did come in to reassure me he'll be in shortly. I simply couldn't wait any longer. I went to the front and told the receptionist I could no longer wait. She refunded my co-pay and suggested I make the first appointment of the day since I have a tight schedule. I thought that comment was simply rude. It's obvious they don't take patients wait time into consideration and do not value it either. The doctor never reached out to apologize or reschedule. So unfortunately I will never be a patient again nor would I recommend this office to any family or friends. This was my first visit to Dr. Karlsberg's office (2022). The office policy requires your physical insurance card present, to be seen. The front desk staff suggested I reschedule as I did not have it with me. Every other office I've visited has accepted an e-copy, forwarded to their office e-mail. I quickly found a solution to the problem - nave it faxed over! My appointment was scheduled for 11:45 and I was not seen by the doctor until 12:30. I had to schedule this appointment months in advance, and was disappointed to find that had to wait longer than anticipated. I value and respect the doctors time and would only hope for the same in return. It seemed as if they overbooked patients or possibly had a patient that required more time. Nonetheless, I will make it a point to schedule first thing in the morning if I decide to revisit this office. read more

I moved to Ventura a few years ago. Finally decided to go to a local dermatologist for Botox and Juvederm. Never have I been more disappointed. The Botox left my left eye droopy, and the Juvederm Dr.Karlsberg injected didn't fill out the fine lines around my mouth, but left bumps in all the injection areas. When I went back to show him the bumps, he took a Q-tip to attempt pushing them in. Needless to say, they came right back, and this filler lasts 6-9 months... Never did he offer any kind of a strategy to correct the problem. He only mentioned he would " study the photos. But his assistant told me that no photos were taken ( to study)! " So after paying almost $1500 I'm worse off than before for a good part of the year! Buyer beware..!!! read more

Warm, caring, incredibly knowledgeable and conservative when it comes to injections I was seeing Dr Laura McCall in Ventura for my Botox and other fillers until she left her practice.... ( glad to hear she's doing well though). I have been a long time patient of Dr Karlsberg. Mostly having to do with sun related issues. two days ago I had him look at a rubbery nodule on my forearm, which I thought was a sebaceous cyst. I asked him to remove it, which he did in such a gentle fashion that I felt compelled to write this yelp review. I've been seeing Michelle (PA-C) for several years now and I will never go to anyone else. It is because of her experience, knowledge, and keen eye that she persisted on a skin biopsy for something I wanted lasered off thinking it was a light sun spot. It turned out to be Malignant Melanoma. She very likely save my life, I would have never suspected such! In addition to that, she does amazing work with all types of injections and laser treatments, making me feel natural looking yet refreshed after each of those visits. I can't begin to express how happy I was with my visit from start to finish. The front office staff are lovely, efficient and courteous. The office ran smoothly and I had zero wait time. Dr Karlsberg is incredible. He genuinely listens, asks for patient input, is incredibly skilled and gentle. Knowledgeable, experienced and talented. I can say Dr Karlsberg is a passionate and very caring Dr. as well as the entire office staff. Dr Karlsberg explained and answered all my questions. I had 2 Basal cell tumors removed with Mohs surgery Sept 18, 2019. One on my lobe and one on the top of the ear. Of course I was nervous. This procedure went real well. I lost my lobe and the top of my ear was amputated. I knew this would be the case, both doctors explained this to me. I was headed for plastic surgery next. Dr Bern did the restorative work on my ear. It is healing well and looks amazing. This team of doctors are the best in Ventura for their expertise. I highly recommend them both. Seriously, one of the worst doctor experiences I have ever had. I am new to the Ventura area and Dr. Karlsberg came highly recommended. This was my first and last visit to this office. Dr. Karlsberg was not only running over 40 minutes behind schedule, he managed to be rude, combative, and insulting. He briefly told be about a skin resurfacing procedure, handed me a pamphlet on the procedure and rushed out of the room. Someone named Monica was supposed to call me to follow up. It's been 3 weeks. No follow up call. I have great medical insurance coverage and great skin (because I have taken the time, energy and $$ to work on it), so I'm not sure why the deplorable bedside manner. Dr. Karlsberg is by far one of the best doctors I have ever seen. I go to him for all of my injectable cosmetic procedures. I have been to several other plastic surgeons who specialize in these procedures, and Dr. Karlsberg is more skilled than even the most expensive doctors in Beverly Hills or elsewhere. If I could give zero stars, I would. This place seems nice, as their lobby is very nicely decorated and their brochures list many available treatments; however, not only was I totally rushed through the appointment I waited over two months to get, they prescribed me a medication that was DANGEROUS for me to take while PREGNANT! I told them I was pregnant and asked if the medication was safe because the pharmacist advised me it was 'iffy.' After speaking with my OB, she urged me not to take it as it wasn't worth it. I was furious and called Dr. Karlsberg's office to complain. I had to leave messages and no one ever returned my calls. Very disappointed and I will not be going back. read more

Unless you need regular treatment, look into another office. This office charges you as a "new patient" for each visit if there is a time lapse between visits. There really should be two reviews. One for the Dr. and one for the staff and office experience. Dr. Karlsberg deserves five stars because he talks frankly and really knows his stuff. He's successfully treated many problems for both my husband and me. It does take forever to try to get an appt with him, but it's worth it if you can. Zero stars for the office staff who is rude and not helpful at all in person or on the phone. IMO-Don't bother going to his backup nurse whoever. She's even more rude and acted like it's a bother to see me. She showed up to work 25 minutes late for a first in the morning appt, came in and didn't even offer an apology for keeping me waiting. Then looked at my issue for less than 30 seconds and sent me on my way with no good information. I did try to ask questions but she stood up, handed me the samples, and said if it gets worse come back. Yeah, like that will happen ever again. I got billed ~$100 for under five minutes of her rude attitude, and no answers. Slam, bam, no thank you. read more

Okay, here's the deal. My relationship with Dr. Karlsberg has spanned more than a decade now. It started when I was about 14, and an adventure with rit dye left me with the most murderous case of hives. He told me not to use anymore rit dye, and not to skateboard in the shirt I had dyed again. Then he had his handsome assistant bend me over the table and deliver a shot of cortisone for immediate relief. Ah. I love you. A few months later I was back with horrible adolescent acne. He prescribed some no nonsense topicals and all the otc crap went in the trash, and I got to be pretty again! As the years went on and my skin changed, he warned me to stay out of the sun, and explained for my auburn hair and green eyes pale was absolutely beautiful on me. AWWWW! Dr. Karlsberg is a alabastor skinned, delicate handed, elegant man, by the way. After having ridges in my nails for years, and all sorts of outlandish diagnosis from all sorts of Docs-it's genetic, it's a virus, it's malnutrition (!) Dr. Karlsberg told me it was simple fungus, to stop pushing back my cuticles and get some tincture. Success! After years! Okay, so he's a wonderful dr. He really is, and I'm sorry I can't go to him anymore. My problem is the last few times I went with a slightly more painful and embarassing problem (an inflamed and infected hair follicle in the bikini region brought about by too vigourous of waxing and too many hours in tights and a sweaty leotard rubbing away in dance classes) Yeah, Ewwww. He wouldn't see me! His nurse (who was a total turn off, oh my god) claimed that these days he only saw patients for plastic surgery and to cut out skin cancer! In addition to that, she didn't seem confident to treat me. I had to have the dr.s from my college who had successfully treated me for the same thing before fax over instructions for her and she seemed nervous and squeemish. Not a nice experience AT ALL! Its already scary and humiliating to be on a table with your petunia out and someone coming at you with a sharp object. Them looking scared and unsure and woozy does not help. Oh yeah, the appt. cost the same as back when I had the priveledge of seeing the actual dr., and the receptionists were rude and bitchy. When I called later in the week to ask a question, they insisted I come in again. Again! To see that incompetent, unprofessional nurse! I wont go on. I adore Dr. Karlsberg, and trust him immensely, to the point that I would have made him my Primary doc. But since I'm not good enough to see him, and he's not minding his staff, he gets 2 stars. I have been a patient of Dr. K for 8 years, I will agree with prior reviews that you do need to book in advance... But for me I consider that the best calling card around, a good doctor is always going to be in demand. The first time I went to Dr. K it was for brown spots that had started to show up around the time of my thirtieth birthday, it started as one small freckle and eventually travelled down the length of my face and around my eyes , it was so noticeable that sometimes people would ask me if I had black eyes. Needless to say this was hard on my self esteem and I wasn't even sure if he could do anything for me, I initially went In to ask about bleaching creams. After he did his consultation he explained I have a hereditary pigmentation (I cannot remember the exact diagnosis) and he recommended because of my fair skin to have a chemical peel, he warned me that because it was hereditary they would eventually return, but not for along time. I chose to have the procedure, the staff was friendly and put me at ease, he explained that he could be putting a cloth with chemical on my face and pressing firmly and my face would feel heat and discomfort , as a person who tries not to show her pain it wasn't until Dr. K told me to breath that I realized I was holding my breath. It's not that it really hurts, but the level of heat is very overwhelming and when he replaced the chemical cloth with an ice cold rag I almost expected to see steam rising from my face. My skin was red, he explained how to treat it and gave me different products I could buy over the counter as well and a prescription cream. The results ... 3 days later my skin was flawless and smoother than it had felt in years, it was amazing to see those brown spots peel away as if I had been wearing a mask all those years. Dr. K was right eventually some of them came back, thankfully not like first time... But it took two years for it to happen so I felt I got my money's worth. I would go back in a heart beat and now that I'm in my Forties I probably will. read more

Dr Peter Karlsberg is a great dermatologist. I went to his office a few yrs ago when it was on Brent st. He took a look at my issue, took awhile to discuss it and after following his advice... poof problem solved. So I haven't had to go back to him but if I ever need a great physician its nice to know there is a Harvard trained dermatologist in Ventura. Oh and i have referred a family member to him and they were as pleased as i was. read more

Dr Karlsberg is nothing short of amazing, a pure dermatologist artist/magician. I have been going to him since I moved here (3 years ago) and my skin has never looked better. He is honest with you (sometimes that can hurt our ego a bit) but the results are completely worth it. I do spend most of my time with him and his staff doing cosmetic/cash procedures, and I never have to wait for an appointment, nor has the staff ever been anything but kind, helpful and professional (I have read a few negative comments here) At the end of the day, you can't get mad at him or his staff because they refuse to take your insurance. I have a high deductible plan that I prefer not to use, and the few times I have had non-cosmetic procedures done, we have negotiated a very reasonable cash price, well below what he would have charged my insurance, that I would have had to pay anyway. Yes, he charges a bit more for his cosmetic procedures, but he is the doctor actually doing them, not some medi-spa with an MD that signs off paperwork a few time a week. He knows all of the latest techniques and stays on top of his education, he is always sharing with me about conferences/meetings he recently attended and new techniques learned from the experts. So I guess you could pay less and get botox diluted down with lord knows what, given to you by someone that didn't get board certified in dermatology or pay a little bit more to someone that does know what they are doing and would never risk their medical liscene to rip you off...I choose the later and look better for it. I am often told I look way younger for my age and I have Dr. K and his staff to thank for it. I have even sent friends to him that for years couldn't figure out skin issues, and he fixes them on the first visit. I have lived in many big cities and if I ever had to leave this town, I would either come back here or mourn my loss..he is just that good! read more

My previous doctor seemed unwilling to take the time to answer my skin questions nor was he very thorough when I was examined. Dr. Karlsberg came highly recommend. Sadly he does not take my PPO insurance. Odd since my insurance is accepted almost everywhere. Every surgeon, oncologist, primary physician, etc. in town takes my insurance. Disappointing but I'm moving on to the next Dr. Clearly this guy doesn't need our business. read more
