I'd like to sincerely thank Dr. Ross Kaplan, dermatologist at Coastal Dermatology in Camarillo, for the excellent care he provided. I consulted him about a deep facial skin cancer while I was also undergoing several heart procedures, so I was very concerned about the treatment options. Dr. Kaplan carefully evaluated the situation and was able to remove the lesion with a simple in-office scrape-and-burn procedure. This allowed me to avoid more extensive surgery or radiation. The healing was surprisingly fast, and there is very little scarring. Dr. Kaplan is also an excellent communicator who takes the time to answer every question I'm truly grateful for his skill, compassion, and thoughtful care. read more

I am so extremely disappointed. Dr Kaplan is an excellent Dr and I was his patient until he felt he had too many patients and got a 2nd doctor to offload some of his patients onto. Instead of not taking new patients, he is essentially dumping some of those he already has by claiming it will be a full year to see him if you stay with him. Worse yet, the new Dr he got is fresh out of medical school with no experience other than internship. So you are going to the best of doctors and actually seeing the most inexperienced of ones because frankly he doesn't care that you chose him not an unknown to treat you for things like possible skin cancer. It is beyond uncaring. It is unprofessional. Why a nice person with years of experience of dealing with people would do this to his patients, I have no idea! read more

I've had a lot of experience seeing dermatologists. Dr. Kaplan has received awards from Ventura County for many years for being a great dermatologist and those rewards are well earned. This guy is bright, educated, knowledgeable... And it's a pleasure to talk to him in his office. His staff was also very hospitable and efficient. I have been going to this office for over a year now and always have a 5 star experience, from the front office to the visit with Dr Kaplan. They are always fairly on time. Dr Kaplan is very personable and explains things well to his patients. He has helped me a lot since I started seeing him. I would highly recommend this office to my friends and family. As far as the one star review written here for this office, no doctor would agree to being in the room alone with a patient. It's a major liability issue for the health care provider . if senior u get treated as a child. even a magazine I was asking about a product was removed from my hands by saying you don't need that. you get proper medical treatment period. no frills. but younger ones are treated as old friends. maybe they come in more frequently. sorry but I expect more. so am going to another dermatologis. so happy I did. read more

Dr. Kaplan has been my dermatologist for years. I have received nothing but excellent service from him. I have never had problems getting into see him. I noticed another review that said you can't get in to be seen for rashes and minor things. My last appointment was for a rash. They got me right in. He personally saw me. Before I could hardly get through describing my problem he diagnosed the rash and gave me a prescription for a cream made by a compounding pharmacy which instantly cleared it up. He diagnosed the skin cancer on my lower eyelid and referred me to an excellent ophthalmologic plastic surgeon, I was very fortunate to have been referred to the right person because my case ended up being complicated. Does Dr. Kaplan come off as having an ego, yes you kind of get that vibe, but I don't see my doctor for his personality I see him for his expertise in his specialty. read more

Because I am not a doctor, I cannot rate Dr. Ross Kaplan's expertise as a dermatologist. But he outright lied to me and was very condescending. I feel that other people should know and that, if he reads this and becomes aware, he may improve for the better. Yesterday I called his office and asked if I could get my full-body exam with him only in the room. In other words, without a nurse or a nurses aid or whatever. Just him. I was told OK. Then I came in today and I repeated my request to the woman who brought me back there (possibly a nurse, I don't know). She said she would check with the doctor. She came back in and told me that, yes, the doctor agreed that only he will enter the room. She instructed me to disrobe. I did. But then the doctor AND SHE came in the room. I told the doctor that is not what we agreed. In a nutshell, I kept saying things like, "But that is not the issue, you told her to tell me that you agreed to give me the exam alone." He would always pivot to: "That is not how I've done this in years." I asked him a series of questions that led to him admitting that he told the woman that he agreed to see me alone. I told him something like, "Can you see how I would feel betrayed? Can you see how I feel like my privacy and sense of dignity has been betrayed?" He said, "I am sorry that there was a misunderstanding." I told him, "There was no 'misunderstanding', you just lied to me." So if you like people to tell you the truth and to respect your dignity, I suggest you go elsewhere. read more

Dr. Kaplan Ross is an extremely thorough and informative dermatologist. In fact. I wish he was a GP, because he is THAT good. His examination was far more thorough than my last derm MD. Office staff are friendly. professional and efficient. 5 stars all the way...its great to have Dr. Ross in your corner. read more

Dr. Kaplan used to be a great community doctor - young, bright, helpful, kind...sadly, over the years he's gotten WAY too bug for his britches, let money and fear of litigation run his practice of medicine, and is now another money-obsessed dermatologist appealing to the vanity of his "patients", peeling, injecting, lasering and Botoxing middle-aged women for cold hard cash. Even if you were one of his original patients, you can't really get an appointment with him anymore unless you are planning a for-cash procedure. No more acne, moles, rashes or other dermatalogical issues for Dr. K! He pawns all that insurance-pay stuff off on his nurse practitioner and physician's assistant (who quit because Kaplan is so insanely litigation-phobic and controlling that he did not actually allow the PA to practice any medicine.) So, if you actually need to see a doctor for medical issues, be prepared to see one of his non-MD underlings. I have had a lot of facials over the years, and everyone knows a decent facial MUST include extractions of blackheads and clogged pores. Kaplan won't let his estheticians do extractions. Everyone knows that Accutane, while a serious treatmet, is THE only known acne cure and is incredibly effective for stubborn cases, often preventing serious scarring and emotional trauma. He won't prescribe Accutane. He won't remove a wart from a pregnant patient. He has gotten THAT crazy about being sued. I'd rather see a doctor with some integrity who puts patient needs first. Honestly, after ten years with this guy I switched to Dr. Karlsberg in Ventura. He's just as good and has all the same technology, but will actually see his own patients, doesn't have an areogant attitude, and will prescribe what patiwnts need. It's sad because Kaplan used to be a great doctor. Now, you go to his office and there is a constant loop on the TV of advertisement (starring Dr. Kaplan!) for unnecessary cosmetic procedures that serve only to line Kaplan's pockets with straight up cash. Go to a doctor that will actually see you and treat your problems, not just someone who will send you to his minion so that he can spend his time making old women look like iguanas. read more

This doctor started to mark the area on my face for a small basal cell surgery...and was totally on the wrong side of my face! Had I not called him out on this...he would have cut the wrong area. His reaction was "well, my record is still perfect. I have never cut the wrong spot". Really, you are that arrogant? Buyer beware! read more

Watch out before you go there...went to see Jeanine the NP as I figured my dermatologist in Westlake (a wonderful man) was going to retire soon and I needed to find another person to do my body checks. OMG, this is the WORST office I have ever been to. I go in the room and as I'm showing her areas on my body, she takes out her "FREEZE" can and begins spraying me everywhere without my consent. I said, "wait a minute, I don't want anything removed that is benign and you didn't even ask me if I wanted anything removed." Her reply "oh don't worry I'm not going to bill you for anything not benign." $650.00 later -- I have NEVER been charged that amount anytime I've been to my dermatologist and had things removed. They are money hungry and dealing with the office is a nightmare. If you are looking for a new dermatologist do not go to this office. read more

My brown spots from sunbathing were either gone or lightened after healing from the 2nd IPL treatment and I was very satisfied with the results. But after 1 year,the brown spots have returned despite using the doctor recommended sunscreens and extremely limited sun exposure. Additionally I noticed several months ago that my face had also lost some of its fullness and youthfulness, especially high up on my cheekbones. I can honestly say that there are no long term pros to IPL despite what the medical professionals claim. The cons are plentiful: expensive, painful even with the numbing cream (used it both times), ugly during recovery (allow 1 week and make-up will NOT cover the ugliness up!) and discoloration returns long term. read more

I'm not surprised to see in the previous post that Dr Kaplan blamed his patient for his mistake. He has a dangerous Doctor = God complex (very oddly 1950's for a guy that was born in the 60's!). He is rude, arrogant and unprofessional. His sort of false confidence could jeopardize patient safety. I hope he will stick to wrinkles snd stay away from real health issues for the sake of all. read more

Bad business practices. After being passed to a different doctor, filling out a mound of paperwork, they gave me a form requiring me to surrender my rights to legal remedy, saying it's required. I let them know that is against the law, and that the only reason would be to reduce their own insurance rates. They wouldn't give me the policy in writing either. They also ask that the Patient pay if they cancel an appointment less than 48 hours before. My visit was a simple office consult, not a surgery, etc. Wise patients should avoid a place like this at all costs. read more
