This review is for the office staff, as the doctor was never seen. I made an appointment for my husband over a month ago. He showed up today and walked in to blank stares instead of a greeting. He said "Hi, I have an appointment" and stated his name. The receptionist told him, "no, you don't." Then proceeded a several minute back-and-forth exchange where the receptionist continually told my husband she had "spoken to him that morning" and that "he said he didn't need the appointment and would call when he wanted to reschedule." There was obviously a mistake as she did not speak to my husband, and, in fact, she discovered they had taken his phone number down incorrectly. But instead of accepting this very obvious fact she continually insisted (even after discovering the phone number issue) that she HAD spoken to my husband as though she was accusing him of lying. She even pushed further to ask if the incorrect number she had down was my (his wife's) number! Again, clearly accusing him of lying (it was not my number nor anywhere close to it). He ended up walking out without seeing the doctor or them setting up a follow up appointment or even a clear understanding of what just took place. I called the office to complain when he returned and was told the Dr was out sick and that they had called everyone to inform them. My husband - who literally deals with people day in and day out for work and is an excellent communicator- was never even clear on that fact before leaving as the focus was on accusing him of lying that he had spoken to her earlier. There was an unwelcoming atmosphere from the start, no apologies or even acknowledgement of their mistake or a path to rectify it. To be clear- mistakes happen!- them calling the wrong number to say the doctor was out sick was an honest mistake- that is NOT the issue. The issue was that they didn't want to admit that was the case and instead made him feel as though he was at fault and not telling the truth. We will obviously not be attempting to make another appointment- but this lack of communication and customer service was honestly befuddling to us both and disappointing enough that I felt it should be shared. read more

Four weeks and no biopsy results yet! Staff won't return phone calls and often won't answer phone. Looking for another dermatologist.

A skin condition I developed caused me months of chronic pain and forced me to visit multiple specialists from Ventura and LA, some giving incorrect diagnosis and treatment worsening symptoms, others charging several thousands for tests I couldn't afford. I even made a trip to the ER and still left without answers or a solution. I was able to find the wonderful Dr. Searle who took one look and was able diagnose me on the spot for an inexpensive fee and provide affordable treatment. Very uncomfortable visit. Unfriendly staff. The skin screening was invasive checking all cracks and crevices while his assistant stood staring. I've had screenings before and of course you're uncomfortable, but this experience was traumatizing. Maybe wouldn't bother some, but I won't be returning. read more

I have been struggling with a skin infection for over a year. I visited several dermatologists and couldn't get relief. Dr. Searle successfully diagnosed and treated the skin infection in 2 visits. I am so grateful for the relief! Dr. Searle is friendly and professional. He spent time with me in my visits and I never felt rushed. Dr. Searle worked hard to get an accurate diagnosis for me and was willing to order tests and consult with another physician. His staff is excellent. Like the other reviews before mine state, a visit to Dr. Searle isn't worth your money or time. Not only did he rush his assessment, but he was also rude and condescending to me and my father. I went in for a treatment involving a wart on my upper lip and after two visits and nearly $600 later, his only suggestion was for me to visit a plastic surgeon (not covered by my insurance). If 0 stars were an option, I'd choose that. Additionally, he was pressed for time and running late to my appointment, and after waiting for 30 minutes and only seeing him for 5, it's safe to say I won't ever be giving him my business again. read more

My experience with Dr. Searle has been one of my most enjoyable doctor visits to date. He exhibits wonderful bedside manner and very clearly cares for each of his patients. When I initially went to Dr. Searle, I was hesitant because I had tried so many medications and topical treatments, that I began to give up hope that my acne would ever clear up. He took my concerns and walked me through his process and why he thought his method would work (spoiler alert, it worked better than I could have imagined). In my first visit, Dr. Searle asked me questions about my diet, the medications that I was taking, the topical treatments, the cleansers, my family's history with acne, and where my acne resides on my body. Through his analysis, he determined the best medication and cleansing process for my specific condition. There were a couple of times when my pharmacy couldn't get me the medication I needed by the time I needed it, which gave me a lot of stress at the time. But one of Dr. Searle's team members, Ana, worked tirelessly so that I could get the medication I needed in time. She even recommended HOPE, a service that delivers medications in 24 hrs. When she set me up with HOPE, she followed up with me to make sure that I was taken care of. For me to get my medications every month, I need to fill out a questionnaire and occassionally do bloodwork. At the beginning, I had many questions about what I needed to do and what my deadlines to do each thing were. No matter how many times I called, Ana always answered my questions in a clear and positive way. Though I feel like I would have been annoyed if someone had called me that many times, she never showed it and always made me feel valued and understood. This one example is a single mark of the kind of people Dr. Searle has on his team. They are kind people who genuinely care about their patients. Dr. Searle has been treating me for a rare skin rash. I had nasty, painful, skin lesions flare up on a weekend and he called me after I left my number on his voice mail. I was able to get a prescription sent to the pharmacy on Sunday! What a relief. What I really appreciate is the time he will spend with me so that I can understand his thinking, translating it into layman's terms. In diagnosing a problem, it is important for me, the patient, to be in the loop during a medical diagnosis. Some doctors want to quickly assume they understand your issue in order to prescribe something quickly, when it might me more complicated than it appears. Dr. Searle does not do that. He quickly picked up on my level of sophistication in medical maters, and tailored his approach accordingly. He has a good sense of humor too that is used appropriately. read more

I had a large cyst in my neck. Dr. Searle put a steroid shot in it without assessing the situation carefully (no biopsy or ultrasound), and it reacted very poorly. Because of the shot, the cyst ruptured. It became larger and painful. Rather than working with me to resolve the issue, he told me I could "just ignore it" or go to a plastic surgeon (that my insurance wouldn't cover). I had to find another reputable surgeon on my own to get it excised, under general anesthesia. The excision was more painful and expensive because of Dr. Searle's previous "treatment." read more

Dr Searle had a great bed side manner, addressed our questions and offered a great treatment plan. The one star rating is due to the office staff. They were un-friendly, dis-organized and abrasive. It took 5 days for them to call in our prescription and that was after my having to call the office twice to remind them. Dr. Searle was a condescending A-hole. I have met a lot of doctors in my lifetime who have what I call the "god" complex, but this guy takes the cake, he's the worse I have ever encountered. He either has a personality disorder or he has reached major burn out in his profession. I was not allowed to have an opinion about my skin problem. He was very offended that I asked if my skin problem could possibly be something else other than what he suggested. It was as if I had questioned his very existence and he responded in an extremely condescending tone. I asked another question because after all, he is the "professional" and once again he responded in a condescending way as if my question was stupid. I was really in a state of shock that someone could be such a jerk. I couldn't wait to get out of his office. His office staff up front was not very friendly, but I might be the same way if I had to work for this man. He also was not concerned that the cause of my skin problems could be autoimmune related, but he really wouldn't know because he didn't want to hear anything that I had to say. It was a complete waste of my time. * There is a review on Google from a woman who said he had her take off all her clothes for a mole check without a nurse present. Ok let me start by saying I just happily drove an hour and a half in traffic from LA to Camarillo just to keep him as my doctor. That is how awesome he is. Thorough, kind, caring and knowledgable, I'm so happy I found him while I was living in Camarillo for a few months. No doctor that I have seen in LA even came close to him. I am happy to drive out to Camarillo just to know I am in good hands. He genuinely cares about his patients, and really worked with me financially just to make sure I was taken care of. After seeing Dr. Searle for several years, I would say he is an extremely kind doctor. With that being said his office staff, not his assistants in the room, are horribly rude. They do not do what they say they are going to (submitting insurance paperwork, calling in prescriptions, returning calls, etc) and they treat their patients like crap! This includes Amy talking rudely, hanging up on you, saying they had nothing left to say to you so they hung up.....all ridiculous behavior for someone employed to deal with the public. It's almost as if they don't want to treat you, but instead of manning up and saying that they treat you poor enough to run you off. I hope Dr. Searle realizes that his staff runs patients off quicker than he can recruit them. read more

Fantastic doctor with great bedside manners! I have been going to Dr Searle for all my skin issues for nearly 20 yrs (mostly sun damage) He is very personal and talkative. Easy to work with when is comes time to correct problems. He is personable and cares about "ALL" patients. (As I see when i'm there) I agree there are times I'd like to spent more time with him going over everything but as understood there are others waiting. His staff also busy as you see all of them continually working on all related office and medical tasks. He is always willing to explain the problem and offer a correction process, more than most doctors I've met. If he finds out you have insurance issue he works with you on a plan. His surgery/correction techniques are all update with the best intent to correct and prevent from coming back. Dr Edward Searle is an amazing Physician. I have been a patient now for several years and I could not be happier. A few years ago I had a lump in my face that had to be removed. Several of my friends told me I should seek a plastic surgeon since it was in my face. I really liked and trusted this doctor and did not want to see anyone else, thus I had him perform the surgery. He did a terrific job and my friends all comment now on how you can't see ANYTHING!! I would recommend this doctor to anyone and you will not be disappointed. Dr. Searle took me as a patient last year, when Coastal Dermatology dropped me as a patient just like that, in the middle of the year, after 5 years a loyal patient, because Dr. Kaplan, at Coastal Dermatology, decided he didn't like the reimbursement he got from Blue Shield.
