This is one of my go to places to purchase dog food and dog treats. They have variety of dog treats that my dog absolutely loves. They also have lots of different dog food ranging from frozen ones to canned ones and kibbles. I like to buy variety of dog food so my dog does not get bored eating the same stuff every day. She loves fresh pet food and stew of any kind. I am glad Petco has everything in their store so I don't have to go to multiple places to buy her food. read more

Delonte and Wes were very helpful. However, i really wanted to give this petco location 1 star due to the lack of direction on where to park. It was so aggravating, but Wes was so helpful that I can't give 1 star. I appreciate the customer service I received from these Wes and Delonte. NIGHTMARE! Do not entrust your animal into the care of anyone at this location. Just don't do it. It's not worth the money or mental anguish. If I could leave zero stars I would because one star would be too generous. I created an account just to provide this review...that is so how terrible my experience was. To say I am devastated by the services provided here is an understatement. First - my appointment was rescheduled from 5pm to 3pm because the groomer called and said the store closed at 7pm. Looks like that was a lie because online it says 8pm. This is the second time I've received a mid-day reschedule. This isn't even the worst of it. After talking to Jordan the dog groomer about my service preferences, my charcoal doodle was shaved nearly bald - in the middle of some of the coldest temperatures of this winter season. He was so cold to the point that he was SHIVERING as we exited the store. The hair remaining on his body is unevenly cut and there are tufts of hair on his legs and all across his paws. His normally thick curly eyelashes have been shaved all the way down to the skin, and the hair around his ears is uneven. I am terrified thinking of what this damage will do to my baby's coat when it EVENTUALLY grows back in. Imagine being a young pup and someone shaving you down to nothing. He is unrecognizable. I am heartbroken every time I look at him. I shared my frustrations with Jordan and the manager and both acted as if they couldn't care less. I had to go back and forth with the manager to get the cost of the service to an amount that felt fair. We are home now and my dog has been lying on the couch in a defeated position whimpering since he stepped through the door. My pup is normally an energetic, active doodle who loves playing and scurrying around. He has been lying down in what can only be described as a sedated manner since we arrived. 4 stars because the price of everything has increased! Be aware, that the price for grooming online/app is Totally different that from what the store actually charges. I was told, the individual location has nothing to do with what prices the site owner puts up. Confirm prices when you call! Also, for some reason - people aren't able to scheduled appointments online or using the app so give them a call to schedule. They are aware. And this issue effects all Petco locations. Anyway, as of 3/15/2022 $58 for Bath with Haircut Long Hair SM and extra $7 for Shave, Brushout, Scissor SM and $4.99 for Materials Fee A total of $70 for my 10 pound dog. K'vina was totally awesome in finishing the grooming of my dog as her ears and tail were left very scruffy. Make sure you tell the groomer all of what you done with the dog.. We visited this Petco today. They have a good amount of floor space. The staff folks were helpful, especially the fellow who helps customers select fish from their tanks. I was looking for a specific type of cat food, and while they had it in stock, I only found four cans of the kind I wanted. My son thought this was a newer location for this store. There is an attached parking garage and the first 90 minutes are free for retail shoppers. read more

First some advice: If you don't know how to cut dogs hair, don't take peoples pets and pretend that you can. - nails not clipped - summer cut looks like a toddler got ahold of a clipper - no blending, abrupt edges on his face - took 4 hours All this was covered with a bandana and not noticed until we got home. Like seriously it's not cool to do this to people's dogs. You should really consider the harm it does. Now I need to find someone to try to fix this and subject him to another grooming so his coat grows in correctly. I don't even want to share a picture because it's so embarrassing and I'm writing this review after 24 hours of trying to cool down. I was nervous to get my Sheltie groomed at this Petco based off of the reviews, but Ashley was amazing! She even called to let me know he had some matts that would need to be removed and let me know exactly how much extra it would be. She did everything I requested and my dog looks great! He is not very cooperative during grooming but everything went smoothly and she was very understanding. read more

This is a brand new Petco that opened about two months or so ago in the Hecht building complex. I like it because it is big (for a location in the city), clean, and not crowded (yet!). It's located in the same building as the Mom's Organic Supermarket. They have a parking garage located above the store (currently free, not sure how long that will last) and some very limited street parking on the Mom's side of the building. Park in the corner located on the side where the gates are (above the Petco) on any floor and you can take the elevator straight to the store. Staff is friendly without being overbearing. They have a lot of stuff in this store, the benefits of a larger location so they don't run out of things as fast as some of the smaller locations in the city do. read more

Animal accessories && raincoats, cool dog chew toys, kitten activities, etc. My dog, Bella Blonde, had her first nail trimming by K. I did not even have to make an appointment weeks in advance and was able to walk-in and be accommodated with great energy and excitement. Bella felt right at home with K. It hurts me to write this review because the people are so genuinely warm and kind and caring at the Ivy City Petco location. But the grooming is...I can't even think of the right adjective right now so let me tell you this: my friend saw my dog after her appointment today and said: "Who cut her hair, Stevie Wonder?!" She was not wrong. The jagged unevenness of this haircut cannot be overstated. The way my dog's facial hair looks like stair steps climbing up her jaw is simply and unbelievably awful. Especially because (having had a bad experience with a haircut here in the past) I specifically and repeatedly said: "I don't want my dog to get a face cut because we are keeping her body hair long for winter so the hair on her face needs to be a similar length in order to blend. (Y'all, I even ran my hand over the dog's face and neck to demonstrate her hair blennnnnnnding.) Please, I said: just cut the hair out of her eyes. I want an eye scoop *only*. Leave the rest of her face just the way it is. I know it's called a face, feet and fanny cut but please do an EYE, feet and fanny cut on Lacey." She said ok. I thought we were okay. We were not okay. To recap: 1. You weren't supposed to cut my dog's face *at all*, in the very first place. Which was made abundantly clear. And then 2. You're gonna cut it terribly?! Like, abysmally, shockingly badly? What in the entire world?! Making matters worse, we were charged for a bath and the dog still stinks. Idk who can wash, dry and cut a dog in 34 minutes so when the call came that she was done I already suspected there was a problem. But this? I was not prepared for this. Do not I repeat do not use the new Petco grooming in the Hect building. You will regret it! The groomers are beginners and have little experience. The store has no visible supervision and the store is observed like amateurs running the business. I noticed how polite and patient the groomers & cashiers were. A few customers came in & all respected staying 6ft distance. Which I truly appreciated. Jade gave Hercules an awesome haircut! Unfortunately another disaster Petco grooming experience. We brought our dog in for a trim on her stomach hair and left with an almost completely bald dog from neck to butt. There was no response from the team there about how this happened and why they did not do as they were told. In addition, her nails were not even cut. I understand this location doesnt have a traditional lot outside for cart return but I still feel it's ridiculous to sell such heavy items and have 1 shopping cart. Also, many pet, especially Puppy owners want to be able to place their pet in the cart for safety and convenience. On Monday, September 27th, 2021, I took my Yorkshire Terrier Poodle to the Petco on New York Ave in Washington D.C. for a bath and haircut with stylist Kendra H. When I picked him up, he did not smell like he had a bath, and she shaved my puppy 1 inch from bald. I also noticed that he was coughing and choking immediately after leaving. We do not attend dog parks or kennels. I spoke with the manager Bernetta and she informed me that she could not help me. I researched this New York Avenue Washington DC Petco location and found numerous bad reviews mentioning terrible haircuts and animals not being properly bathed. I would like for management to implement extensive training for all grooming staff at this New York Avenue Petco location. read more

5 stars for service!!! The staff is really nice and always very helpful. Only reason the whole place doesn't get 5 stars is because they have a somewhat limited selection on the things I want. Example: They ran out of clorex wipes but were so nice about it, I can't possibly be mad. It's the closest place we've got to pick up pet supplies and I love their rewards and return policy. As a new pet parent, I have a tendency to buy everything for my little nugget, only to realize once we get home that he's just not into it or something else would be a better fit for the apartment/dog. Came in for first appointment with puppy and Lexi the groomer did decent job for puppys second ever grooming appt. She also requested to keep my dog over 4 hours extra because she was too busy and I complied. For 3rd appointment that I scheduled one month in advance, I was stuck in traffic and arrived 15 min late and she canceled my appt without notice and took someone else off reservation list. You would think that there would be courtesy after keeping my dog over 8 hours the first time. When I asked her what I could do, she was condescending and did not recommend any solution. Staff is very nice and courteous, but the grooming was terrible. My poor dog looks like she ran into a pair of scissors. Her whiskers were cut, and her back was jaggedly shaved. Called the store this morning and was told there was no availability until mid January 2020. Later in the afternoon, I called my dog's groomer who happened to be working at PetCo today and he (Trevor) was able to accommodate a bath and trim for my dog. I was impressed by the store's presentation and the staff's customer service. Given the short notice appointment, Trevor meticulously groomed my dog in a timely manner. I took my dog to get a groom at this location for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It was clear immediately that the groomer had not actually groomed anything besides shaving down his hair. I have a poodle mix so how he is groomed is very important for his hair type since it can get matted. She shaved him completely which was unnecessary since I routinely brush him and I also request just a small trim on him. She didn't brush his ears or tail. I ended up having to brush them and cut out a few mats on his ears and tail. She didn't trim his nails or grip his paws around the pads. It was also clear she did not do the gland expression. I will absolutely not be returning here. I had to cut my own dogs nails and trim his paw hair and tail and ear hair. read more

The fact that DC is undergoing extreme gentrification, we are seeing a lot of wonderful new businesses here in dc. The customer service here was horrible. I feel that if I was another race.... My service would have been better. Being blunt and honest. Management was stand-offish. The male associate who came to help, was NO HELP at all. I was there to purchase my 6 year old her first fish. I had no clue of what I needed. I had my heart set on the beautiful betta fish. Didn't see the stomach until we got home - had also been shaved unevenly, even though we didn't ask for anything on the stomach. Will never return. K is one of the worst groomers we have had the experience of having groom our dog. She had no attention to detail, severely lacks skill with the clippers and scissors, and does not acknowledge her mistakes when called out. She cut our dogs paw creating a large gash, and when asked about it she claims she didn't do it. Mind you the dog went in unscathed. Unbelievable how terrible our experiences as been with her. I would not recommend this location, especially "K" for any of your grooming needs for your pet. read more

It's never busy and the staff is always super helpful. Also, there's an elevator so you can park in the garage (first hour or so is free) and don't have to lug 42 pounds of cat litter down a block. If you don't enter through the parking garage the entrance can be a little tricky to find. read more

The previous experience I had with an employee was completely unprofessional. I called to schedule an appointment for my dog today and he acknowledges me to come in at 3pm. When I got to the petco right on time for the appointment the guy Trevor that I spoke with on the phone confirmed talking to me and stated he can fit my dog in but it would be better if I cash app him for the grooming service. I questioned that and stated I want regular services that I can receive a receipt for. Trevor takes my dog and says it would be better if I can leave him there and pick him up later in the day. The time was 3:15pm when I left my dog at the groomers. The employee calls me back at 4:12pm stating that I can pick my dog up because he is ready now. I requested I get him in an hour because I had made plans according to him stating I can leave my dog and pick him up later. He enforces I must get him now THEY ARE CLOSING THE STORE AT 4 TODAY! I panicked and immediately rushed to pick up my dog. In the process of getting there I had also another friend call and question the hours of operations for the grooming. Another employee from Petco confirmed closing hours where at 6pm not 4pm. As soon as I got in there I requested to peak to a manager. This managers name was Helena. She confirmed no cash apps should be considered only for tips, checked on my dog and any closing hours she was unaware with, and confirmed that this was not the behavior and employee should have. Over all it was a bad good experience. My issues were resolved however I am now more alert to watch out for further employees there trying to get over. read more

I have been going to this Petco for grooming for the past 1 1/2 year, dropping in once a month, and have had a great experience. K'Vina, my groomer, is so incredibly sweet, not just to me, but to literally every dog that comes in (even the not nice ones!). She seems to take everything in her stride with a smile on her face. Cinnamon's grooming has always been great and K has taken feedback of what I liked / didn't like. The grooming sessions usually take c. 4 hours. I also love that I can drop in for Cinnamon's nail trimming and they will squeeze me, even on their busiest days (although sometimes I do have to wait, which is to be expected for drop-ins). Having spoken with other staff members there, everyone is friendly and helpful. I personally don't live walking distance to this Petco and would still recommend it (I use it as an excuse to explore Ivy City and Union Market while I wait!). read more
